We have commenced our winter maintenance period. You’ll see us at the Oyster Cove Slip-yard in Kettering from early August but in the meantime, please enjoy checking out our social media posts on Facebook and Instagram!
Built in 1942 and now operated by Heritage Sailing Tasmania with our all-volunteer crew. This is an opportunity to immerse yourself and experience how the trading ketches of old sailed and plied Tasmanian waters. Guests enjoy complimentary refreshments as we sail the River Derwent. We sail most weekends and some Thursday twilights.
The SV Rhona H is based in Hobart, just a ten-minute walk from the CBD at the very end of the Pier. It’s a short walk down the dock to see the harbour and you’ll see us alongside behind the security gates.
More than just a sailboat ride, join us for an authentic sailing experience and an amazing way to see Hobart and surrounds whilst contributing to keeping some of our maritime heritage afloat.
Check the schedule on our website for current details as times are subject to change. We ALWAYS set the sails and all ages are welcome. Kids (of all ages) love to take the helm, steer the ship, haul on lines and ring the bell.
Remember, the temperatures in southern Tasmania may be cool so pack a jacket: we have hot water bottles to keep your hands warm! Please, no high heels (not so much for the deck, but to look after your ankles)!

Fantastic experience: We had a delightful two hours cruising on the Derwent under full sails. We were able to take the helm (under supervision!) for much of that time. The owners Julie and Charles and their volunteer crew were amazingly welcoming and helpful. We absolutely recommend their cruises and will definitely sail with them again when we are next in Hobart (hopefully for a full day cruise, schedule and weather permitting). Fantastic experience: Great experience. The volunteer crew were a lot if fun, good food and drinks. Fabulous view of Hobart, Mt Wellington and Tasman Bridge. Thoroughly recommend.

Fantastic experience: What a fantastic experience! If you want to see the Derwent river and Hobart from the water, this is the way to do it. Julie and Charles are wonderful hosts and their crew are knowledgeable and experienced. NYE fireworks from the Rhona are fantastic

Fantastic experience: Had a great day with my 7yo son, it was his first time on anything like a sailing boat. He got to hold the wheel, ring the bell, and was generally spoiled rotted by the crew with lots of attention. Very reasonable price for the memories he will have, a beautiful day and the crew were awesome. Hobart is a wonderful place to visit and the Rhona H was a great experience. Thanks again!!!!

Fantastic experience: A 2 hour great value sail on the Derwent aboard the SV Rhona was the best end to a magical five days in Hobart. A lovely sunny day, plenty of wind so we could really experience sailing, NZ fur seals spotted on numerous occasions, a chance to be the skipper for a few minutes (felt exhilarating) and above all the friendliness and passion of owners Julie and Charles and their wonderful intergenerational volunteer crew. I sailed with two friends (and four other guests) and we could not have been made more welcome, comfortable and looked after by this caring team who were absolutely across everything - general safety, COVID safety, food, drinks (tea, coffee, juice, water), and keeping warm. Highly recommend if you are looking for a traveller experience (as opposed to a tourist experience). Thank you SV Rhona!

Fantastic experience: My work colleague's and myself , had an amazing sailing experience on this vessel on Friday night. The weather was perfect ( a little cold and breezy) but tolerable. A big thank you to Julie and Charles for making the trip so enjoyable. The crew who are all volunteers were so accomodating, and knowledgeable.
