We run all of our tours on a pay what you think it’s worth basis. We've all had the experience of paying for an activity up front and then later on, feeling like it was not worth the money. We take that problem away. There is no booking fee for our free tours, and no payment is required before the tour begins. If you have fun then you can decide if you would like to tip your guide. The value is up to you, whatever fits in with your budget. This makes our tours affordable to everyone, regardless of their finances, but also incentivises our guides to never stop trying to improve, as the system rewards the guides who provide the best quality tours. Tipping is always voluntary and our guides will never pressure you into it, but this is their job so if you have had fun, we ask that you take a moment to consider what it was worth to you.
London with A Local - Free Walking Tours: Reviews
Fantastic experience: This is an excellent opportunity to visit London from a different angle, with historical facts. The English is clear and easy to understand for foreigners although need to speak English. The walk was great and fun. We had the chance to see the Carnaby clock sounding which was really a good fun. Thank you Marc.
Fantastic experience: This was such a fun tour! Colin was the best guide, as he was really enthusiastic and a good storyteller. He took us round a few very cool filming location and spots of inspiration. Thank you Colin, we loved it!
Fantastic experience: My husband and I went on this walking tour on Friday 3rd of November. The whole experience was incredible from start to finish! Jamie was so informative and passionate on the subject of Jack the Ripper's victims, and we left the tour feeling like we had learnt so much! Even though London has obviously changed and is unrecognisable from the times being discussed, Jamie really made it all come to life in your imagination, he is also very funny!! Thank you for a very interesting evening and we look forward to doing another tour very soon.
Fantastic experience: Bobby was an excellent storyteller, making us jump out if our skin every now and then as we traversed dark streets and parks in central London. He's clearly passionate and me and my two teenage boys had a great Halloween treat doing this tour. Highly recommended!
Fantastic experience: Excellent tour. Ben was funny and informative in equal measure. Highly recommend. We chose this particular guide because my husband has mobility issues and we weren't sure he could do the full tour (he did!) And because you pay what you think, we didn't have to pay up front and risk losing money. We could cancel if he wasn't well. Ben was so good and considerate so a big thumbs up from us.
Fantastic experience: This is probably the best tour I have done. Becky our tour guide is very knowledgeable, funny, enthusiastic and entertaining!!! She definitely made our tour enjoyable! This is a must if you are in the area! Thank you Becky awesome job!!!
Fantastic experience: Nathan is a great guide !! I loved his passion and way of explaining all the little details and narrating Harry Potter again to us! I found it really impressive when he even went extra mile and took out pictures showing the places we are actually standing and which plot it is in the movies! I could not have a better experience!
Fantastic experience: Amazing tour - we did it two years ago and really wanted to bring my niece along to enjoy it and it did not disappoint. Bobby was relaxed and chatty but had so much knowledge - it was a packed two hours and we saw some stunning art and learned loads. Thanks so much - would thoroughly recommend
Fantastic experience: An Eerie Journey into History with Nathan on the Jack the Ripper Tour I recently joined on the "Jack the Ripper Tour" guided by Nathan, and it was a truly spine-tingling experience. Nathan's knowledge of the infamous serial killer's reign was exceptional, and he led the tour with a captivating mix of suspense and historical insight. His storytelling transported us back to the chilling streets of Victorian London, making us feel like we were part of the mystery. Nathan's enthusiasm and attention to detail were commendable, and he navigated the darker aspects of history with respect and expertise. If you're intrigued by the enigma of Jack the Ripper, this tour with Nathan is an absolute must. A night well spent delving into the mysteries of the past!
Fantastic experience: Took a tour with Jamie. While I was more of a tag-along to my enthusiastic girlfriend I enjoyed it as well. That was mainly to the passion Jamie displayed for Street Art. He even got his hands dirty to show us more Graffiti on a Trash bin. Since his tour I recognize pieces and artists in certain areas in London. Thank you for educating us and being such a warm and fun guide!
Fantastic experience: Bobby - you were a phenomenal tour guide! Your ghost and ghouls tour was so interesting! I learnt so much and really enjoyed your storytelling and theatrics, as well as your quick wit and humour. Thank you for a great evening! We will be back again in the future.
Fantastic experience: “Big Ben” was knowledgeable and informative. His dry sense of humor was a perfect match to all the data he downloaded during our tour. He made discovering and understanding the street art of London so much fun.
Fantastic experience: Mark was an excellent guide through Shoreditch showing us the amazing street art! He was knowledgeable about the history of the area and all of the local artists. It was one of our favorite parts of the trip!
Fantastic experience: I walked with "London with a Local" for 4 occasions! Originally, I only booked three, but I was so happy walking with them, I ended up with another one. I walked with them through the Landmarks West, Landmarks East, Jack the Ripper, and Ghosts, Ghouls and Ghastly Murder I LOVED EVERY GUIDES who took me, especially Jamie (he took me on the City of London/Landmark East) because I got so many itsy bitsy information about London that I wouldn't know beforehand. But everyone of them (Sam, Ben, Jamie, James) knew what they were talking about and passionate about their routes. I loved it. This walking tour is VERY WELL recommended!!
Fantastic experience: The tour with Mark was very enriching, in-depth explanations were given on various aspects, historical/political/social/architectural/cultural and even some gossip about the royal family for generations. As those who came to London for the first time, the tour really helped us to orientate ourselves in the London area for the rest of our independent trip. Well done! In my opinion, and in light of past experience, this is better than the paid tours, mainly because the guides on the free tour are, for the most part, professionals, in areas of interest such as history, architecture, archeology and Cuba, who bring a lot of themselves to the guidance. This allows you to be generous with the tip
Fantastic experience: Our street art and graffiti tour with Colin was amazing!! Loved seeing Shoreditch and all the amazing murals and other art and learning about the area. Colin was informative and entertaining. Loved spending time with him. Highly highly recommend! Great for singles, couples and families.
Fantastic experience: We really enjoyed this tour. The tour guide Bobby was really friendly and knowledgeable. His passion for street art was really infectious. We saw lots of things that we wouldn't normally have seen.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic! We meandered through Shoreditch with Mark, our local tour guide. Highly recommend the Street Art Tour
Fantastic experience: Was great to have Colin share his knowledge of Harry Potter around the streets of London. Some good AHA moments too
Fantastic experience: We did a Harry Potter tour with Nathan. Oh boy it was good! A very energetic and vibrant guy who does his job really good. You will not regret doing the tour. This guys will MAKE YOU ENJOY your time. A writer in the making and a great human bring. Thanks Nathan, thanks London with a local!
Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Mark as your guide in London. He was incredibly patient, explained things thoroughly, and answered all our questions during the tour in Shordits. His knowledge and truly enhanced our experience, and I couldn't have asked for a better guide. Thanks to Mark, our visit to London was unforgettable!
Fantastic experience: Did the Street Art of Shoreditch tour with Ben and it was amazing. Ben is very knowledgeable, about the art and the buildings, and has a great sense of humour. Would thoroughly recommend, even if you're not that into art.
Fantastic experience: Ash was a phenomenal guide. The way he tells the history created a picture that made me feel like I was there, transported back in time. Highly recommend!!
Fantastic experience: A family of 5. Ages 12-18 (the kids…), we took 3 tours with London with local: 1. Ghosts & murder - with Ash. Lots of stories about murderous crimes. Lots of knowledge, very interesting to see the different parks at night. Not recommended to the young ones. 2. Graffiti at Shoreditch- with Boby - the great . Beautiful tour, couldn’t have enough. Everyone in our family enjoyed it. 2 Bencsi arts and more surprises. Definitely a must…. 3. Harry Potter with Colin. Very informative and interesting. Don’t forget to brush on your books and movies (especially the movies..). Fun and different from the regular studio tours. All very recommended and the most important part - don’t forget to tip generously - so they can keep this wonderful tours
Fantastic experience: Great tour by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic pro. Phenomenally good street art in a neighborhood transitioning from post-industrial crisis (which spawned graffiti culture) to gentrification. It was great to experience both the tensions and continuities between street art as underclass defiance and rebellion on the one hand and its own commercialization and adoption by companies.
Fantastic experience: Did the City of London tour today with Ash & loved it. So much energy, great stories, great person and overall 10/10. We did it with our 8mo baby and Ash was just a gem. Would love to do more tours with him.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic tour with Nathan, thoroughly recommend. I went with my 12 and 15 year old children and we all enjoyed the history, detail and sights, so much better than just doing your own thing. The boys said it was the highlight of our London trip and it certainly was. Thank you very much for a fun, inspiring and interesting tour, we will definitely be doing other tours of yours.
Fantastic experience: I recently just took this tour with my mum and sister, all three of us totally enjoyed it! Our tour guide Ben was excellent in his manner of delivering the tour with a mix of laughs and detail. He was also conscious of the public passing and would pick a quiet corner for us and ensure no one was standing on the road. You could really tell Ben is passionate about the tour subject. Would recommend this to anyone who is visiting London, and hope to do another one of his tours.
Fantastic experience: We booked the London SOHO walking tour one day ahead. I just googled it and the first one showed up was Strawberry tour. We booked it via Strawberry tour. When we showed up at the meeting point, our tour guide was Colin from London with a local. He told us his father is British and his mom is from New Zealand. He was being very transparent about the tour’s operation and we felt comfortable with it. We learnt about Soho’s recent 600 years of history for the first 15 mins. After that, we started the tour. During the tour, we learnt a lot about Paul McCartney, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and other British rock n roll stars. I definitely will visit the show venues. The tour finished in two hours as promised. I will definitely join another walking tour with London with a Local. They take cards and cash.
Fantastic experience: Bobby our tour guide for the Harry Potter walking tour in London was very funny and informative. We don’t know much about Harry Potter and we still had a great time!
Fantastic experience: An interesting and informative tour of Street Art in Shoreditch. Nathan was an excellent guide shared lots of anecdotes, facts and stories about the artists, art and local area. I really enjoyed and definitely recommend to anyone wanting to find out more out street art.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous tour with the knowledgeable and fantastic Colin. Can highly recommend a tour in bursting lively and artistic part of London, you will not regret it
Fantastic experience: We walked through Shorditch with Jamie and had an amazing time. Jamie is so passionate about street art we all were caught up by it. I don’t think seeing these works can be done without a guide who knows the stories behind the pieces and is able to point out small details you’d otherwise miss Thank you Jamie!
Fantastic experience: We absolutely enjoyed our Westminster Tour with Rob. Even though we live in south London this is the first time we’ve done a walking tour in London and we were very impressed. Rob’s knowledge was outstanding interesting and fun. We would definitely go on another tour. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: The street art tour was one of the best street art tours I've ever taken. Our guide was Becky. She told us a lot of stories about the area, since her family is actually from there from generations back. Becky was very knowledgeable and charismatic and made us all experience the pulse of the area, its artistic and picturesque vibe. I absolutely recommend this tour. Whether you are into street art or not, you'll look at it from a fresh perspective after this walk.
Fantastic experience: Look, if you are searching for a way to visit London, see both the important, touristy stuff (and from a good angle, too) and the local flavours, seek no more. This is it. Those tours are bloody amazing, their guides are specialists: scientists, historians, architects, passionates, and they do know it all, not just what the tour is about, but about the city overall. We have learned everything that a tourist should learn about the history of London, about the real life back in the Roman times, the Victorian era and more. Plus, we have received some amazing recommendations for food/souvenir shops/viewpoints/attractions. Here is a quick recap of the specific tours for the people who haven't decided yet: Sherlock Holmes: if you've seen the movie, series, or read any of the novels (or not), go see this one. Ben brought Victorian London to life for two hours, and there seriously wasn't a dull minute. The tour only happens once a week so watch out to book in advance! ️ City of London: Mark gave us a great, insightful overview of how the City of London and Westminster came to be and let us into some secrets we would never had noticed ourselves. If you like history and architecture, this is for you. And definitely ask about recommendations on nice viewpoints - you are in for unexpected free attractions! Westminster: This is for all the people who want to learn about The Royals. Nathan showed us all the spots you would want to see in Westminster, and you will learn all the essential history, but also listen to anecdotes and less popular trivia. You will be entertained by the stories, and suddenly you will be in just the right spot to see the guards changing, seemlessly, without standing and waiting there in a crowd for an hour. Soho: Rock and Roll! Jamie showed us everything we wished for. So many places do not exist anymore, changed branding etc... and have zero placks in place to remind clueless tourists about their cool story. Thankfully, we have had a guide passionate about the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Hendrix and many more, who was able to let us in on them. You will be surprised with the stuff Soho hides. At least we were! Ghost & ghouls: How cool was that tour. Almost like we have had a PG16 DLC to the Westminster tour. We went through the similar path, but now hearing where the stuff of legends, skeletons in the closet, and gruesome details of past kings' doing are hidden. Rob, being an actor, made the stories so realistic that we bought them completely and it almost felt the spirits floating around;) Shoreditch: Street art fans or not, this tour is for everyone. Again with Jamie, we have learned about street art legends, rising stars and trending artists. We saw many examples of this art form, from big, professional commissions surrounded by fences, to tiny (literally brick - sized) installation we would never spot ourselves. Some of the pieces have been there for years, and some just popped up last week - it's cool to witness such a snapshot! JTR: Although all the tours were packed with info, this one was my personal favourite. Ben, being a specialist, told us the full, uncensored story of Jack the Ripper. The suspects, legends, theories, all there is. The tour was supposed to be two hours, but he found all the time in the world (and by that I mean additional 40 minutes) to answer any questions we raised. I am now inspired to read a 500 pages book on the topic, and I think it says it all. If you don't mind some gore, go and see it! Shout-out to Ben, Rob, Jamie, Nathan and Mark for making our London trip the best it could be. And since all the payment was voluntary, this review is a part of my gratitude. To end with Ben's words: you haven't lived your life (or at least you haven't seen London!) if you weren't on those tours!!
Fantastic experience: I highly recommend going on a tour from London with a local. During a week we joined 7 walks and every single one of them outdid our expectations. Great overview of each topic, would certainly do it again.
Fantastic experience: We had a wonderful tour with Rob at London with a Local. He was so animated, and knew so many cool details. He was also very patient with our son and other kids and chatted them up with ease.
Fantastic experience: I had the pleasure of doing two tours with Ben over the weekend - Shoreditch Street Art and Harry Potter. Both were fantastic! Ben uses his vast knowledge and background to sprinkle in anecdotes about artists, actors, buildings, etc. which round out the tour and adds a true personal touch you simply don’t get elsewhere. London With A Local is simply a must for tourists, and I bet even other locals would learn something from Ben too :)
Fantastic experience: This tour was exactly what walking tours should be. From the start, Jamie was warm and welcoming to all participants. This created a friendly, inclusive feel. While Jamie has clearly run this tour a number of times, his presentation and enthusiasm kept the tour fresh and interesting. You can tell the difference between someone who is doing a job and someone who is sharing a passion. Jamie’s passion for Street Art is obvious, as is his passion for “his” neighborhood. I went on this tour as “something to do” while we were in London. I finished it as an enthusiast. Thank you, Jamie. Great tour, great tour guide. Oh. And great fish & chips. (Go on this tour and you’ll find out what I mean!)
Fantastic experience: We booked this tour as our 16 year old is a big HP fan but also our twin 7 year olds have just started a read and watch on all the books and movies. We have to say this tour by far exceeded our expectations and Bobby was superb. Being an actor himself he seemed to be able to capture his group and even had our 7 year old boys completely engaged the whole two hours with tasks, jokes, actions and full of laughter. You could not spend a more enjoyable couple of hours or have a better guide if you are a fan of the wizzed world. I could have been regarded as the Dad that was dragged along but I enjoyed every 120 minutes of it, great and interesting facts that you would never know if you missed this.
Fantastic experience: Collin was awesome and his energy was contagious! He clearly knew the story of Harry Potter well and even threw in some historical tidbits here and there. I will definitely recommend this service to others! You'll also be seeing me again!
Fantastic experience: The tour was enjoable and Colin enthusiasm was contagious, making the experience all the more enjoyable. It was clear that Colin genuinely cared about each person's experience, and his dedication to ensuring we had an unforgettable time was truly commendable. Thank you once again for an unforgettable experience. I eagerly look forward to future tours with your company, as I know I can expect nothing short of excellence.
Fantastic experience: Love it!!! Bobby was the best guide that I have ever seen!! He always made us laugh and his approach to the children was absolutely so sweet :d He deserves every penny.
Fantastic experience: Jamie was really great, we understood everything and were able to ask further questions. The timing was perfect, we enjoyed the Buckingham palace, the guards change and more. He was narrating his tour with passion, conserving our attention from the beginning to the end. Anais and Claudio PS: we might be back for one of his tour in our next London central trip!
Fantastic experience: This place provides fantastic free walking ♂️ tours in London! London with a Local ♂️runs great city tours with a local guide - definitely go on the Harry Potter ⚡ tour - it's the perfect activity for Harry Potter fans! Ash (the tour guide ️♂️) was so knowledgeable, energetic, and charming and really made the tour a fun experience! Fantastic experience: Becky was the best tour guide I ever met (and she is a Ravenclaw just like me, so that’s a plus). She was able to lock our attention from the beginning, being dynamic, enthusiastic, funny and kind. At the same time, she shared with us some really good curiosities that warmed the hearts of all of the Harry Potter fans in the tour, including myself. I will totally recommend it to everyone who wants to spend 2 hours learning more about the Potter and Hogwarts world, and I hope to meet Becky soon in another tour guide because I’m sure she is going to nail it.
Fantastic experience: Lovely street art tour ❤️ Great tour! We did the Shoreditch graffiti and street art tour and it was great. Our tour guide, Nathan, is a passionate guide who thoroughly engages his guests on the tour. I was amazed at his ability to make the information accessible and entertaining. His wit and humor added to the enjoyment of the experience, and I left the tour feeling enriched and inspired. Highly recommended!
Fantastic experience: Really lovely tour, tour guide was really funny and loved the accent. Very knowledgeable tour guide. Great to see all those place and match them to the movies. My son had never seen the movies or read the books so he was really excited when he saw the landmarks and people that were talked about in the first movie we watched when we got home. He is now gonna watch the rest. He really enjoyed it. It also showed me how much he was listening to the tour guide Richard.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic trip which was very exciting and with great respect for the victims. Visually well done with pictures to create the atmosphere of the buildings from that time. The guide had a great knowledge. We would recommend this tour to others.
Fantastic experience: We did 2 tours with Jamie (Landmarks West and Street Art) and they both were great. He's a funny knowledgeable guy with great personal anecdotes to add to the history. We fully enjoyed the time and would love to do some more of the tours the next time we're in London
Fantastic experience: Ripperologist Nathan, was truly a fabulous Jack the Ripper walking tour guide. He was informative, enthusiastic, passionate and a whole lot of fun. Highly recommend his tours. Thanks ???? Sam,Dave & family
