London Walks: Reviews
Fantastic experience: I have had several walks with them over the years. The latest, last week, was a small group Ripper-walk with Richard W. He is so knowledgeable and shares his wisdom abundantly. I am certain he will write a Jack the Ripper book himself one day and I sure look forward to reading it.
Fantastic experience: Great walk "the famous square mile" with Simon this morning. Was very interesting and funny. I totally recommend. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: London Walks walks are like potato chips (or, as you call them here, crisps): you can't eat just one. We tried one, enjoyed it so much, we tried a second. Then a third. Each tour guide was a joy, a fount of knowledge, and a charmer. I took about 6 of your tours in the month I was in London, and I'll be back.
Fantastic experience: Went on the Ghosts of London walk on Halloween with Adam. Really enjoyed the tour, Adam was very knowledgeable and charismatic, really selling the ghost stories to a group of people that generally weren’t superstitious and didn’t believe in ghosts. Was definitely worth doing and I’ll be looking forward to potentially joining another walk!
Fantastic experience: Had a fantastic tour with Andy on the Hidden Pubs of London tour. Great experience and learned so much! Andy is very knowledgeable, I highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fun and highly interesting tour with a lot of information about the history of London‘s East End! We did the Jack the Ripper walk with Andy as our guide. Not only was he very pleasant and entertaining to listen to, he also presented historically accurate information, which I - as a history teacher - appreciated very much. I‘d always book a tour again! Definitely worth the money.
Fantastic experience: We had the Brunel tour with Maribeth which was such a delightful way to spend a few hours. She is to be commended on her passion, knowledge and warmth. Thanks !
Fantastic experience: We just got back from the Jack the Ripper tour and it was Awesome! (As we Americans say, right?) Our guide, Simon, was the best. In fact, he knew so much about Jack the Ripper, we are wondering if.....nah, he's too young. Everyone that visits London needs to take this tour! From your Michigan friends
Fantastic experience: My husband arranged the Camden tour with Judith as a birthday present two Saturdays ago and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Judith was a fantastic guide, full of knowledge and wit. How much history and culture can accumulate over the years in just a few blocks!! We would do it again in a heartbeat.
Fantastic experience: I moved to London 2 years ago and felt like I didn't know very much about my new city until I was fortunate enough to find London Walks. David and all the other tour guides have been absolutely amazing. They're a boundless source of history, and they structure the tour in a very enjoyable manner. I am so glad I found this company, it has really given me a new appreciation for my new home. I have already done 4 tours, and can't wait to join David and the team on more tours in the near future!
Fantastic experience: Had an excellent tour of Westminster Abbey today. Very knowledgeable and friendly tour guide. Would recommend and return for another walking tour.
Fantastic experience: We are just back from a London Walks tour to the Cotswolds and Oxford University town… it was superb! Our tour guide Simon, was so knowledgeable and engaging he really brought the whole experience to life for us. It was a wonderful way to end our week in London and we will definitely do the Cambridge version next visit! Make sure you bring some cash with you as Simon is definitely worth a tip!
Fantastic experience: We had the "Jack the Ripper Tour" on saturday with Oliver. It was really great! He captivated us with his stories and took us back to London of 1888! It was special to know, we went many streets during the day and were totally different at night. Thank you very much for this fantastic experience, which was one of our Highlights in London! We recommend your Tours 1000%!
Fantastic experience: Linda gave us the best tour!!! She knew where to go and what to see. I highly suggest using this company for a tour of London
Fantastic experience: "How London got Rich" - David Poyser. A very enjoyable walk. David was very knowledgeable, interesting and humourous - he brightened up a rainy afternoon. Many unexpected surprises, including the garden at no. 120 and David's "Roman" barber's!!
Fantastic experience: We did the tour of Hampstead and we loved it. Time just flew - and we actually live in Hampstead! (well, West Hampstead, the cooler poorer neighbour). David the guide knows how to tell a story in an entertaining way plus the story of Hampstead is very good. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Simon was amazing, full of knowledge. Not only giving facts about Jack the Ripper but Victorian London. Even walked us back to the tube after tour was over.
Fantastic experience: We had a fascinating 'Inns of Court' walk in the morning, and 'British museum' in the afternoon. By coincidence Molly took us for both. She was engaging, very knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the subjects. Recommended!
Fantastic experience: We took 3 tours with London Tours – and will definitely take more on our next trip to London. We took "The Blitz Walk" – gripping and fascinating, the very best one; and "The Famous Square Mile" and "How the City Got Rich" which partly overlaps but are captivating and engaging as well. Skilled, knowledgeable guides that can lay down enchanting stories – and, of course, London history. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Andy was incredible on our Hidden Pubs tour. This was the first experience we had after landing in London and were very glad we did it. Great for finding pubs tourists may not know about and grabbing drinks along the way!
Fantastic experience: Did the London Inns Of Court Tour. It was excellent. The tour was run at a leisurely pace with lots interesting things to learn. The tour guide Shaughan was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Recommend this tour if you want something outside the box.
Fantastic experience: Andy led Jack The Ripper tour and was superb. He was patient, funny and very knowledgeable.
Fantastic experience: Joined the London Walks 'How the city got rich' on Tuesday 23rd May. The walk was guided by David who was interesting, spoke clearly, was easy to understand and walked at a comfortable pace. We visited some places you would not usually see such as a roof top garden and part of the Roman ruins underneath a hairdressers! I experienced some transport issues when travelling to join the walk but was able to contact the company easily and David kept in touch until I arrived. Thoroughly recommend this walk.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous range of walks and leaders - top quality knowledge from experienced guides - often Blue Badge guides. Highly recommended whether you are visiting London or are more local and want to learn more about the city.
Fantastic experience: We went on the Hidden London walk today, 17/04/23, guided by Simon who was unbelievably knowledgeable! He made the walk so interesting and seemed genuinely passionate about London, the history and all he was telling us. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk and will certainly be booking more London walks in the future. Thank you Simon for a really fun, informative morning.
Fantastic experience: I have been enjoying tours by London Walks for about 10 years. This most recent visit, I took five walks, largely in central and East London (where the very old history happened). The guides were spectacular, as always, and you can tell that this is a company that prides itself on its deep knowledge of history, engaging delivery, and ability to put non-locals at ease as they are sightseeing. The tour of Disastrous London up by Barbican illuminated why East London was so dodgy until relatively recently (think “Cheapside,” notorious prisons, plague and disease). The tour of the Old Jewish Quarter provided a multi-century history of the Jewish population in London and other immigrant groups. The tour of Hidden London was excellent, as other reviewers have mentioned—Simon was most entertaining and knowledgeable about ancient plagues, fires, royals, and scandals. The guided tour of Saint Paul’s covered the history of the site, its “old” vs wren designs, and many famous inhabitants of the building. (The visual aids—historical maps, portraits, etc—that the guides bring are always excellent, but especially for this tour.) And the final walk was in the Hampstead Village, where we covered both its historic inhabitants and the efforts over the past two centuries to save the heath from development. The nature walk on a beautiful day was the perfect end to my trip. All this to say, there are so many options with wonderful guides, and scheduling is so easy, I have no doubt that I will continue catching walks from this company whenever I visit London.
Fantastic experience: An engaging and social walk. Our guide, David, was enthusiastic, friendly and a full bottle on Dickens. He even pointed out some other historical bits and pieces along the way which were very interesting. We particularly enjoyed the readings, which really painted us a picture of the places we were standing in. At the end of the walk, we saw an old English pub that Dickens would visit and David bought us a drink. We stayed for some time chatting with him about Dickens and all manner of tangentially related things. A very pleasant and satisfying end to a lovely walk.
Fantastic experience: London Walks has been one of my favourite activities to do since moving here. The guides are incredibly generous with their knowledge. They are all so animated (often act out scenes, and incredibly literary). Today I did the Kensington walk, which turned out to be my favourite, mostly because of David. He was so kind. I hardly ever write reviews but I strongly recommend going on a London Walk with these guides!
Fantastic experience: All I can say is WOW!!!! I travel a lot, and I’ve done loads of tours, and these walking tours are by far the best tours I have ever done, in any city. Unbelievable value for money. Incredible guides. Insight, humour, knowledge, wit. Amazing experience every time!!
Fantastic experience: The crime and punishment tour was great! Aaron Hunter’s knowledge and sense of humor were exactly what we needed to make our time in London memorable. On the tour, Aaron also was able to get us into cutlers hall and we had the best time with one of the Beatles. Thanks Aaron for a great afternoon!
Fantastic experience: Positive: Professionalism , Quality , Valu
Fantastic experience: One of the best tours we experienced while visiting London! Simon was very informative and funny. He knew just how to keep the crowd engaged. Very highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: My wife, daughter and I booked a few London Walks tours while vacationing in London. We enjoyed them so much that we booked a 4th and 5th and we're glad we did. Adam was immensely entertaining on the Ghost walk. Simon was super informative on the Famous Square Mile and The Cotswolds. Westminster Abby and Jack the Ripper tours were excellent as well. London Walks were the highlight of the trip for all of us.
Fantastic experience: My husband and I booked the Beatles With Adam tour on our visit to London on our honeymoon and it was amazing. Adam was funny, well-informed and entertaining, and it was just the right amount of walking for the time allotted. We saw so many key spots in Beatles history, ending with the iconic Abbey Road, which Adam was more than willing to take photos of crossing. I can not recommend this tour highly enough!
Fantastic experience: Positive: Professionalism
Fantastic experience: We went for a walk with Simon on the Square Mile tour on 14 Aug 2022. Simon was extremely interested and passionate in his sharing of his knowledge of the city's culture and history. He also took time to talk to us to learn more about our respective cultures and countries. London Walks continues to deliver the personable service and is great value for money. Well done. Thank you so much.
Fantastic experience: We took the jack the ripper tour with Simon and it was just exquisite! He was very informative and also had very cool little facts about London in general. I have been on quite a few tours these last weeks and this has been the best by far, highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: My mom and I went on a Jack the Ripper tour with Simon the other night, and we both agree it was a highlight of our entire trip to London! Simon was an excellent guide and kept us riveted the entire time. Our only regret is that we didn’t book more London Walks tours — I will most definitely be booking their tours next time I am in the city, and think a private tour with this company would be worth every cent! TLDR: we couldn’t recommend this company more!! Go book your London Walk!
Fantastic experience: I recently had the pleasure of going on London Walk’s walk titled “Hidden London with Adam”, and I had a wonderful time thanks to the tour leader, Adam. He knows the history of the area extremely well and was able to make it accessible, informative and entertaining for the group I was part of. You can’t go wring with London Walks in general, and Adam as a tour leader, to be specific. Absolutely something one should not miss!
Fantastic experience: Did Royal London with Annmarie and a private walk with Adam. Both were excellent. The depth of knowledge these guides offered was quite impressive. I have to say I most appreciated the kindness and personal attention, which made my day in London so special. Most highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Did the Ghosts of the Old City walk in the run up to Halloween, with my two kids (aged 12 & 10). Adam was our guide and a masterful storyteller - hugely entertaining, knowledgeable and funny. I've booked with London Walks before and the guides have always brilliant. Brilliant way to bring the city to life and see and learn things you never knew.
Fantastic experience: We did two evening walks last week, and I highly recommend both of them! We loved our first walk, "The Clerkenwell Pub Walk - Monks, Malt and Mayhem with Andy." It was so much fun to explore the area's history and contemporary charms and hidden gems. Andy pointed out several great pubs and we grabbed pints at two of them. Andy had tons of amazing stories and recommendations for good eats and attractions in the area. We had a wonderful time and were sad when the evening ended! We also thoroughly enjoyed our tour last week, "Ghosts Of the Old City with Adam." Adam was an amazing guide and expert storyteller who uses humour and drama to bring historical events and figures to life (or death). He also did a good job offering potential plausible explanations for many of the supernatural phenomena, which I thought was a unique touch. The tour really enriched our understanding of the City and we had a blast. I think London Walks is one of the best touring groups in the world and I recommend them to everyone!
Fantastic experience: We booked the Westminster by Gaslight and were absolutely floored by how wonderful it was. Peter, our guide, was very entertaining, witty, extremely informative, and an all-around fun person to be with. If I were to choose one to her to take while in London, it would be this one!
Fantastic experience: Sarah and that morning tour of the tower of london! She's wonderful. We met near the gift shop (just slightly uphill around the side) and she gathered us together. We had a couple of late comers but she started the tour right on time and then brought them in when they arrived. She's not allow to guide in certain areas and she really armed us with a bunch of information prior to and after exiting those areas. She was expressly a English only tour but a family from France with soft English skills had signed up so she did her very best to help them through anyway, doing her best with the French she had. All and all a FABULOUS tour guide and I'm very thankful for her time.
Fantastic experience: Simon took our group on a Hidden London tour. He was so funny, enthusiastic and very very knowledgeable. Instructions about the meeting place was very clear and easy to meet up with Simon. Worth twice the price. I will continue to book walking tours with London walks.
Fantastic experience: London Walks Unknown East End. February 27th led by Matthew. I booked this for a pre birthday surprise for my wife. I thought I knew a fair bit about London but Matthew, the guide for the two hour walk was amazing. Fascinating and fun, he told us some amazing tales from across the centuries. With a local connection ( his mother was born in Whitechapel) Matthew came out with some wonderful stories, some with a personal touch. One of the best walks I've been on! You won't be disappointed.
