Auto Europe

Negative experience: We rented a car in Poland thru Auto Europe. After returning the car, the Polish rental agency, CarWiz, charged us for supposed damages (over $500). I reached out to Auto Europe and they opened a case, and in a couple weeks we received notice that CarWiz apologized and were refunding our money. So far, so good. That was August 30. We still haven't received the refund. I have emailed and called Auto Europe multiple times, to no avail. I have sent them my credit card statements showing that no refund has been credited. They just keep telling me that CarWiz has credited us. Twice I have asked to speak to a manager; both times that manager is in meetings and can't be reached. Twice I have asked that a manager call me back; both times I have not received a call. This is the worst customer service I can imagine. Beware of using this company - I'm sure it's fine if you don't encounter any problems, but this has been a nightmare for us. I finally have had to go to my credit card and dispute the charges through them.

Fantastic experience: My wife and I travelled to France (Sep/Oct 2023) for two months and used Auto Europe's lease program. We purchased this thru Auto Europe. We've never leased in the past and we're glad we looked into this option. It worked perfectly. If you're travelling over 21 days the leasing option turned out to be an awesome way to do things. The cost for 60 days was much better than renting, all leased vehicles are brand new and, include ALL add-ons (eg collison insurance, liability, theft, extra driver, navigation etc.) while still being better priced than the "big/typical" rental agencies either in N. America or France. When we arrived in France we stayed the night at a local hotel. Auto-Europe picked us up at our hotel the next morning. Once we presented our booking documents at the office, they went over the car and we were on our way inside of 1/2 hour-ish. (FYI, not much gas in the tank so top up close by but you head out, but on return you don't have to fill it up either). All staff spoke English - some better than others but no language barriers. The folks at Auto Europe were great to deal with and explained things well. We dealt with Leslie. The only problem we had was once the deal was booked Leslie seldom returned calls or emails. I must say her lack of return communications left us with doubts and spooked us a little at first wondering if we were making a bad decision. We were able to talk to others in her place but things worked out splendidly just the same. In summary, we'd use Auto-Europe's lease program when travelling in the European Union because it was better priced, all insurance/options were included and it was so convenient/easy during the pick-up/drop-off whether they picked you up at the airport or your hotel.

Positive experience: Thanks AutoEurope for the refund. I was not comfortable with the CDW insurance situation. I really wish that the insurance would be through the rental company and not a 3rd party. I don't like the idea of having to pay up front for damages and to make a claim afterwards.

Fantastic experience: I'd like to share my experience with Elizabeth from May 18. To travel through Europe this summer, we decided to lease instead of rent a car and Elizabeth was beyond amazing. Helpful, patient, courteous, and professional, she walked me through every detail and answered every question. What an amazing agent! Fantastic experience: I booked two car rentals yesterday with a super agent, Elizabeth, who, very patiently and courteously, helped me with all the details and conditions of such rentals for upcoming trips in France (continental and Corsica). Fantastic experience: I've always heard that renting through Auto Europe was a good idea as if you run into any issues with your car rental, they are just a phone call away. That had been helpful in previous rentals (flat tires in Switzerland and Italy), but even more helpful earlier this month in Rome. Avis called me directly (three days before scheduled pickup) to say that the van we had reserved (and paid for) months earlier was not available. What??? We had 6 people and the alternative we were offered was to rent 2 cars. We did not want to do that - twice the gas, twice the parking, twice the tolls, loss of the camaraderie of traveling together - this was not good! I called Auto Europe and was put in touch with supervisor Kyle. We spoke several times with him keeping me apprised of the situation - he was working hard to find another van but pretty much said that was not going to happen due to availability. But guess what? Kyle saved the day! The night before pickup he called with an option - instead of picking up at the Rome train station, would we be willing to go to the airport instead? Heck yes! The timing wasn't ideal and our plans for the day didn't go as schedule, but at least we would all be in one vehicle! A million thanks to Kyle for working tirelessly to assure we got what we wanted - he literally saved the last 4 days of our once-in-a-lifetime vacation with my sisters, husband and brother-in-law. Three cheers for Kyle!! And this is why I only use Auto Europe - thank you!!

Fantastic experience: I have been renting cars through Auto Europe since 2000 and have rented in Italy, Europe, England and South Africa, but most commonly rent cars in England. I love this company. They have outstanding customer service and my most recent experience was with a customer service agent named Elizabeth. She was knowledgeable, friendly and efficient--everything I hope for in a customer service rep. I can see no reason to ever use any company other that Auto Europe for my international car rentals.

Fantastic experience: I recently booked a car rental from Auto Europe for our upcoming Iceland Trip. I found the pricing offered by Auto Europe is better than booking directly with the three major rental car companies. After making reservation online, I have couple more questions so I called the 888 phone number. The customer service representative Elizabeth was very helpful over the phone. She addressed my question regarding whether I need to get international driver license for the Iceland auto rental and several other minor questions courteously. It gives me assurance that I can count on Auto Europe to answer questions or resolve issues just in case I run into problem dealing with auto rental company in Iceland.

Fantastic experience: I must say this has been an amazing experience booking with this company. The rate was in fact reduced after I had booked and as promised they sent me a refund and I have not even travelled yet! Tatiana at the 888 desk told me to keep watching the web site and if a lower price was announced between now and when I do travel they would honour the lower rate yet again. She helped me with a new reservation as well as helping me with one that was already booked but the price had gone down so she applied a reduction to that one. Highly recommend using Auto Europe and I also suggest going for the zero deductible.

Fantastic experience: I booked directly with Auto Europe on line and then realized that I might have booked it wrong so I called the 800 number and got Elizabeth. Not only was she able to modify my reservation and make it right, but she suggested a more convenient place to get the car and drop it off. HUGE catch by Elizabeth. Fantastic experience: We've been using such Auto Europe for (I'm guessing) at least 20 years, usually for European car rentals, but also once for Mexico and once for Martinique..By and large, their rates are the same and very often much better than going directly to car rental companies. But the best part is dealing with an easy to navigate web site, and if need be, with helpful US agents in Portland, Maine. Today, I had the pleasure of working with Elizabeth who helped straighten out a reservation tangle involving change of dates, drop off location, price matching, and type of vehicle. She listened to me, took things in hand, and worked things out.

She knew everything about rentals, credit cards, the requirements in the various countries, new trends, and what questions to be asking with regard to Liability coverage. And she found me an amazing rental -- a Mercedes, 11-days south of France, unlimited liability, no airport fees for $542. It was a great experience. She also told me what to do if one of the companies try to rip me off. Which has happened. I'd recommend Eizabeth and AE to anyone planning a European trip.

Fantastic experience: When I tried to book online and got an error message, I called in to the help line. Elizabeth in Portland, Maine was very helpful to explain that 9 passenger vans generally aren’t allowed to be picked up in the city center (the likely cause for the error message) and finding me a mini-van that will work for my family and luggage that could be picked up in the city center. She helped with arranging all of the details for my car rental and gave great advice for checking to make sure my credit card covers Eastern Europe and/or Greece and reminding me of all of the documents I will need when I arrive at the ticket counter. It was a great experience and I highly recommend their online and call service!

Fantastic experience: Had a great experience working with Auto Europe on my car rental on Sunday afternoon. I had been trying to book a one-way car rental that crossed country borders which often doesn't work through the automated online system. I called them directly after getting an e-mail and Elizabeth from Auto Europe was great in giving me the car options and support I needed to find the rental that would work for me in my budget. All the customer service folks are savvy and resourceful and always find a good deal or match price. This year, Auto Europe's Luna went the extra mile helping me secure a cheap car overseas, not an easy task in the summer. She followed up efficiently and ensured I had a good experience, even retaking the challenge after we encountered some fine print that limited my selections. She was polite and very knowlegeable. Positive experience: We had unusually superb customer service from a Mr. Inman, the Reservations Manager. He truly went out of his way to help us, and was very professional. The cars themselves were perfect. Picking them up went great and we'd use this company again. The only reason I did not rate as a five is because we had a little confusion about the extra fees, and ended up paying for two drivers when we really didn't realize this would be happening, so just be careful about the extra fees and you'll do well with Auto Europe. We will use them again.
