Fantastic experience: I needed to get an international drivers permit for a trip I was leaving for the same day. I only realized this the Friday night before leaving, so thankfully this place is open Saturdays. I got there right at 9am when they open and there were about 3 other people waiting outside before me. I was fully expecting to wait for hours, and leave empty handed and in tears like every DMV experience I’ve ever had. AAA was the polar opposite! The woman who helped me was so efficient and friendly, she took my picture for the permit, and I walked out of there in less than 15 minutes with IDP in hand. I was close to tears of JOY!!!!! I would recommend getting there right when they open if you don’t want to wait at all.

Negative experience: I called around 10pm on a Sunday and was told a fleet member would come within an hour and a half to tow my vehicle and me off the side of the Harlem River drive about two hours later I hadn’t heard anything and called back I was then told it would be another two hours until someone could come. Instead of waiting for four hours total I was told I could leave the car with the key in it unlocked and someone would tow it within the hour. Instead of having my car and me towed to my home I had to pay $60 for an Uber. When I got home I received a call from a tow driver saying he was at the car but because I wasn’t there he couldn’t tow it although it had been marked as unattended. I then got a call from dispatch saying there were no tow drivers available and that no one had even called a driver in the first time I called. I knew there was a driver available because there was one at my car ten minutes before dispatch called to tell me there weren’t any. She said there would be no drivers for the whole night and that there was no lot or mechanic where my car could be towed even if there were. My car was left unlocked overnight with the key in it by triple aaa after I’d waited hours for a tow. I was lied to multiple times about the availability of drivers and lots where my car could be towed. In the morning a driver came and again told me it was not marked as unattended and I would have to go and meet him over an hour and a half from my home. It was the third time I had been told it was noted as unattended to then be told by a tow driver it was not marked as unattended. I then also received a parking ticket because aaa left my car overnight in a spot I’d been in when I was told they would be towing it within the hour. After over 10 phone calls each with a hold time of 10-20 minutes it was 2:30am and aaa had given me no idea of when or where or how my car would be towed. The only helpful person was the driver of the final tow truck who was able to find and tow the car on Monday morning.

Positive experience: Went for an IDP and set of passport photos. Waited about 1.5 hours. Arrived at 10am Sunday. Staff was friendly and went as fast as possible. They DO take card. Website says cash only however both is fine

Fantastic experience: I visited this location to transfer my membership from Southwest to Northeast, update my member info, take passport renewal photos, and exchange my out of state license for a NY enhanced license. The staff were so helpful and friendly, assisted with smiles, offered pertinent information with thorough knowledge of every service offered, and very quickly completed all of my transactions. With so many places in Manhattan staffed with less than pleasant employees, this AAA location is a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend having this AAA location for any service they offer. The kindness and positive demeanor of the staff means a lot to me.

Fantastic experience: Super bright, super clean, modern, friendly, smiling helpful people joking with my young, autistic nephew, patient, excellent follow-through - and I was unprepared! Right at corner across from the park and north of WF. A completely different dimension from the truly god-awful experiences I’ve had at DMV license express and going into a different timezone over at 9th ave. I haven’t been to 9th ave since major renovations but I can’t imagine that typical DMV surliness, contradicting instructions and soul sapping to be any different w/a makeover. I joined AAA b/c this branch offered services the regular DMV online wouldn’t confirm were offered at any other location, and I haven’t looked back. Great service and ambience, highly recommend, your sanity and zen are more than worth it.

Negative experience: Wonderful efficient friendly people. But: the lady who writes the IDP (International Driving Permits) has an entirely unreadable handwriting. I honestly have no idea if this thing will be accepted. Even I can't read it, and supposedly that's my name on there!

Fantastic experience: I received excellent service from the staff at the office of AAA Manhattan location at 1881 Broadway, New York, NY 10023, all the employees at this location are totally respectful and knowledgeable of there service they provide from notary public to drivers license renewals passport photos etc .The location is clean and has areas to sit and wait if needed , I highly recommend this location to others in need of their services ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fantastic experience: Excellent customer service for NYC standards. I was able to get my international driving permit in about 15 mins on a Saturday morning. They’ll even take passport photos right in there at an additional cost. You do need to complete the form (download online or get it right in there), and to bring NY state DL. You don’t need to be an AAA member.

Negative experience: The only branch in Manhattan. It's a nice building. Of the 4 staff, I'd say probably 1.5 members were actually working. One woman would go to the back room so often I wondered if it was protocol to do so; clearly not since the other 2 counter staff didn't. 95% of people on line want IDP so if you want anything else, you have to stand with them. Why they don't separate the IDP line is beyond me. If you're looking for ezpass, must be a AAA member and this is not a 'on the go' location. Must have a plate number, not even a temp if you're getting a new car. Except there's no one to tell you that, or any signs for this info.

Negative experience: Got stuck in Phillipsburg, NJ on a Sunday afternoon. At 12:17 I called Triple A . . . the dispatcher informed me that a service person would be there by 1:17. At 1:30 I called again . . . "Service person will be there within 45 minutes." This went on until my last call at 5:00 p.m. at which point I was told, service would be there within 45 minutes. Five hours later!!! I didn't want to curse at the dispatcher because I knew it wasn't her fault, but the service providers they use are not reliable. We ended up calling a private tow company . . . and paid out of pocket. Why am I paying an annual fee to TRIPLE A???

Fantastic experience: I went in for an International Driving Permit and had a wonderful experience! I didn't know what to expect, so expected the worse, but my experience was the exact opposite! The entire process took less than half an hour. The location was clean and professional, every area is well labeled. The person who helped me was very friendly and explained everything clearly. I've literally walked by this building hundreds of times and never realized it was AAA. After this experience, I'd like to know what other services AAA offers that I've been overlooking.

I went on a Saturday afternoon and my whole interaction took all of 15 minutes from handing in my IDP app to walking out with it in hand. The person who helped me was pleasant and clear in her instructions. I came with an application ready but you can fill one out there, and get your photo done for an extra $15. Lovely facility and staff!

Having said that, I think the whole IDP system is a scam that should be stopped or at the very least provided at a much lower cost.

Fantastic experience: Easiest place to get your international driving permit and everything with DMV! For IDP no reservation is needed, just walk in and you should be all set in 10 mins! My eyes are really sensitive to camera flashlights, and their staff was patient enough to retake a million times for me!

Fantastic experience: Great branch but super busy because everyone is trying to get their international license. Took me about 35 mins to get mine on a Saturday at 1pm. Great customer service, and very efficient, they took photos upfront to move the line. One customer snapped at a worker for telling her they close at 2pm but I thought the worker was pretty polite and nice about it. ‍♀️ maybe come earlier next time.

We were seen right away and because we already had forms filled out and the required photos we were out of there within 15 minutes on a Saturday morning. Not a bad place to wait if you did need to take time to do something with DMV or whatnot. Very central location too.

Negative experience: This company purposely rights “vehicle” when you register to make you think all kinds of vehicles are covered by their service. But they don’t even offer road side assistance for people who only have a motorcycle.

Positive experience: The office is very nice and clean, you can get a international drivers license. Staff is helpful if your getting an international drivers license ($20 charge) but are not knowledgeable on any normal travel information that AAA would know. Like if you need an international drivers license in certain countries, what their travel insurance covers etc. And they don't have many international maps, like iceland or scottland nor do they know how to call the main office to see if you can have them mailed.

The staff are friendly and helpful and make the process very easy. No appointment needed for international licenses, though you can make them for other services.
