AAA - South Square: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Great service from Mike! He is a true professional. Always kept us informed of the status of the repair, and very personable. I will be back for other services.
Fantastic experience: Mike, Tiffany and Steve are the best! My car is always taken care of!
Fantastic experience: Tiffany is always the best! They all take very good care of me as a repeat customer and member of AAA!
Fantastic experience: I love the staff at AAA. Tiffany is especially helpful. Prices seem very fair and work is done quickly with excellent communication. I get all my car work done here now.
Fantastic experience: The team is amazing, david called and kept communicating effectively and i got my car fixed in less than 24 hr, i am so happy! Easy and great!! Thanks guys!!!!
Fantastic experience: Easy scheduling, quick and effective service, great customer service. Had a nail in my tire that was patched and avoided the cost of replacement. Provided multi-point inspection that identified need for new brakes. No obligation or pressure to complete service, but I gladly called and they had next-day availability. Was in and out under an hour and a half with new brakes. AAA membership discount on repair labor as well! Will be returning for any future service. (Service on 2013 Toyota Highlander)
Fantastic experience: Garrett the facility manager was incredibly helpful. I recommend this AAA as all the staff were very personable.
Fantastic experience: Thank you to the AAA technicians, particularly Garrett Moon. Not only was he patient explaing all the electrical problems with the car, but he also drove me to get my replacement battery which was under warranty! To top it off, he got me home safely during the flooding causes by Hurricane Helene! The fixed the car, and had amazing service!
Negative experience: Bad experience with their battery warranty calls ends up counting towards call outs. They refuse to test the battery until after they've recharged it.
Fantastic experience: I recently purchased a car from a dealership that turned out to be a lemon...i was pretty stressed out from this. they ran some tests and told me exactly what was wrong with my car. The guy who did my intake(Steve) was very kind, compassionate of my situation and informative of the process, as well as the associated cost for the diagnosis, and the ballpark cost for the repairs after the car was looked at. I will say, it was pretty expensive to get my car looked at but I'll say the information I got from it was priceless. Thank you AAA and Steve for helping me navigate through this tough time!
Fantastic experience: Amazing honest fast service from Steven and Mike will be a repeat customer!
Fantastic experience: Tiffany is absolutely amazing and I would recommend AAA to everyone I know
Negative experience: My car couldn’t start so I requested roadside assistance which provided me excellent experience. However, after using roadside assistance from AAA, my car ended up at the this place where AAA app suggested for me. The ability of diagnosis for the my car issues at this place is extremely poor. The lady who work at the counter said she will charge me $75 before tax for car diagnosis except for examining battery. After this diagnosis, they said they can’t find any problems about alternator, starter and battery. The lady said you have to pay additional $150 for master diagnosis, which means I could pay $225 before tax for only car diagnosis and even possibly still can not find the problems for my car. This lady and technicians here just completely show their incapability. You just feel extremely disappointed at this place when you know this lady just wanted to rip you off. I don’t even want to provide one star for this review if I could’ve chosen no star.
Negative experience: No car lights on before the appt and left with ABS and BRAKE lights on. (They told me they didn’t want to stay longer and get my car fixed in response to the lights that turned on.) Went to get rear brakes replaced. My appt was at 10AM didn’t pick up the car until 5:30PM (after closing hours) Apparently the lights that turned on after the service they performed on my car was NOT their FAULT. Then trying to charge me to get the issue fixed. If the part was broken prior to my appt with them, my lights would have been on already. They’re at fault but don’t want to take responsibility for it. Not only that, clampers come with bleeding the brake system. But they charged me a separate $150 for a full brake fluid flush. Went home and checked, the fluid was very yellow and dirty. New brake fluid should be much clearer like oil, DONT EVER GO TO THIS LOCATION
Negative experience: I won’t be returning, this place simply did not do right by me and feel very taken advantage of. They discovered an oil leak back in February, I paid to have it fixed. I returned in May for my state inspection and they “found another leak”. Tried to say “maybe it’s residual “ when they obviously missed it back in Februarys. After receiving another quote to fix that my driver side window wouldn’t roll up. They said they always roll the windows down but yet the window worked just fine when I was there for initial check up , they put tape on my window and told me to have it fixed elsewhere. Very manipulative and doesn’t take responsibility. I would suggest going somewhere else.
Fantastic experience: Can’t decide whether I love the service or the people more. Service was 10/10. My car wouldn’t crank over the weekend, towed it here on a Sunday, got a call from this place first thing Monday morning, and got my car back good as new Tuesday afternoon. These technicians are absolute wizards. People were 10/10. Super knowledgeable, super friendly, and super funny. They were very responsive to all my (and my dad’s) calls. Communication was always there and couldn’t be clearer. The guys working in the back have a true gift—I’ve never seen such a high level of expertise. Special shoutout to Mike. I live in this area all by myself, not knowing a thing about cars, but Mike really felt like my Durham dad. He held my hand throughout this entire process and I’m forever grateful. Much love to this place and the people <3
Fantastic experience: Service was quicker than they estimated, and Mike had very clear communication on whether any additional services were needed.
Fantastic experience: The people truly care. The take awhile but the wait is worth the wellbeing of knowing what’s potentially in need of my attention. I also love the digital inspection.
Fantastic experience: The guys and gals in Car Care are Awesome
Negative experience: I went to AAA in person for a triptick for a trip I'm planning next month to ME. I wanted a stop in Rockport, ME, but was given a stop in Rockport, MA. The pages of the triptick are not in order making the effort unusable. I'm going to go back and get another one made and be more precise about my stop in Rockport as well as checking while I am there to be sure that the pages are in order. I'm disappointed with the service.
Negative experience: I called ahead to get information days and hours about applying for an international drivers license. When we arrived, that department was closed for the afternoon because of the upcoming weekend schedule. Apparently this is a regular occurrence. There was no advance warning.
Negative experience: These people are dishonest and always try to upsell you. I brought my car in for an oil change and they told me I needed multiple filter replacements, one of which was a cabin filter. They told me that I didn't even have one. The technician was Erick V. When I told them I would replace it myself, Mike Schaedel at the service desk proceeded to lecture me about how bad that was for breathing. I obtained a new filter and went to install it at home only to find out that the last one I replaced was still there and barely dirty. Don't trust these people. They will try to take advantage of you. Shame on AAA for hiring such unethical staff and continuing to feed the stereotype that mechanics are all dishonest.
Negative experience: Terrible experience. I went here July 12 2024. I had gone to another AAA to get an IDP one hour before closing and they informed me that they no longer issue those as of 4 days previous. So I hurried to the south square location and was there at 5:30. I called ahead to make sure they could do IDPs. When I went to the desk, the woman who works there said “we’re closed” and packed up her stuff and left. No apology, nothing. No other employees, of whom there were 4 or 5, said a word or would even make eye contact with me. Thankfully, one of her coworkers went outside to tell her unacceptable her behavior was to me and she was arguing with him saying “you’re not my manager!”. I appreciate that someone who worked there cared about how customers are treated. However, even he acted like it was somehow my fault because I arrived so close to their closing time.
Negative experience: Walked in on three different days to get an International Drivers Permit, and three times was told the only person who could do that had left early or was arriving late. And only on the third time did anybody bother to tell me their camera was broken, so they couldn’t help me anyway.
Fantastic experience: Have been taking my older Camry here for years. Service and price are solid, but I greatly appreciate the service writer’s professionalism. For year, AAA has offered Lyft rides for drop off appointments. This morning, after the writer finished confirming the appointment, I asked if they could provide me a ride (~$10-15) from Lyft. Very professionally, he explained AAA no longer provides rides for smaller service tickets (I’m getting an $80 oil change and a $20 state inspection, I’d imagine you’d need to spend at least $150). Rather than flat out telling me they wouldn’t call me one, the service writer described the policy, cited the reason (the profit margins don’t make sense) and told me they’d call a Lyft this time since it was an established expectation based on previous service. FWIW, the Lyft didn’t come expediently, and there is a free GoDurham bus stop a 2 minute walk from the AAA location that was headed to my destination in downtown. Kudos to the service writer for explaining the policy and making a reasonable accommodation. Customers take note, Lyft rides to and from AAA now have a minimum service $ associated with them.
Fantastic experience: I called prior to going to make sure I’d be able to be seen today. I just needed an alignment. I spoke to one guy who told me since I’d be a walk in, my car would be done in about 3-4 hours. I expected that since I didn’t have an appointment… totally fine though! I called again just to ask if they had a shuttle available since my car was quoted to be there for 3-4 hours. I spoke to Tiffany who said she’d take care of me and would be able to get my car in and out within 1.5 hours. Tiffany delivered and my car was actually ready in an hour— 61 minutes to be exact! Great customer service! My first time there and I’ll definitely be going back!
Negative experience: Tried to charge $175 for diagnostic and $600 for car starter after it was brought there by mistake. No can do!
Fantastic experience: Quickly answered my questions. Went in for an international drivers license and they had me out the door in minutes. But maybe they just didn’t like me, who knows.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and helpful staff. Mike helped me get a pre-purchase inspection and he was great to deal with. Their inspection reports are very detailed and helpful, by the way. Highly recommended. (If you are waiting a while for your car here, walk over to solera taproom - food was amazing.)
Negative experience: These folks derailed my family's entire weekend because they couldn't manage to put on a single tire when they had all Saturday to do it. Didn't bother to tell me until a couple minutes before the place closed. Will not be going back.
Negative experience: Call the number listed on Google to make sure that they didn’t take a lunch to do passport photos and to get my customer number that I have misplaced. Drove 30 minutes down here and was told they are not doing passport photos today.
Negative experience: The front desk is polite, but if you make an appointment for an inspection you have to wait 1 1/2 hours which is ridiculous. Several times AAA has told me that things were wrong which other mechanics told were perfectly fine. Be careful dealing with AAA.
Negative experience: Got my alignment done, after alignment weird sound coming from right wheel. More importantly they scratched my steering wheel so bad.
Fantastic experience: I ran over a 4x4 (think deck post) and it ruined two tires on the right side of my car while driving on Interstate 85 in North Carolina on my way back to Virginia. It took the dispatcher quite a while to get a location for me, but eventually service showed up. A very nice fellow who, unfortunately, forgot to check the rear right tire. As a result, we drove 35 miles to the AAA service station dragging a flat rear tire that ended up dissolving into rim by the time we arrived at our destination. He pretty much accepted full responsibility and JIM STEWART, facility manager at the station at 3505 Westgate Drive, Durham, NC was fantastic. I called him constantly and he was very receptive and even helped lead me through the beginning parts of the damage claim. This was handled fairly and quickly. AAA paid for a sizable chunk of the fee, and I was surprised and pleased. It was a good experience.... after a really bad one.
Fantastic experience: We were charged for a locked out service when we called the AAA service to our house. But when we went in to this office, we spoke to Arnette Lawrence, who was super helpful and was extremely kind to us. She did the needful and assured us that our situation was taken care of. Thank you Arnette for a pleasant experience over there.
Positive experience: Went for annual NC Inspection which was very thorough. Didn't realize they had full service garage there. Good experience.
Fantastic experience: I took my car to have it inspected today however , I thought my appointment was at 11am but I had made it for 10:30am. Mike was very nice and told me that he would fit me in today. This was very important because I needed to get my registration sticker. Mike was able also help me with an urgent problem that needed to be taken care of right away. This was done in a timely fashion so I didn't have to wait very long. He also gave me a very useful tip that I will be using with my truck. I find that Mike is very courteous, professional and patient. I like this AAA location on Westgate in Durham. They always make me feel like a valued customer. Thanks Mike.
Negative experience: My interaction with the AAA car service team was extremely disappointing. I made a scheduled appointment for an oil change at 12:30pm, only to arrive and be informed that my appointment had been delayed until 2:30pm. The lack of consideration for my time was frustrating, as I had planned my day around the original appointment time. What made matters worse was their recurring excuse of staff shortages and people calling out, which seemed to be a common occurrence. It's simply unacceptable for a service provider to consistently fail to meet their agreed-upon appointment times. This pattern of unreliability demonstrates poor service and a lack of care for their customers. As a loyal AAA member, I expected a higher level of professionalism and respect for customer appointments. Regrettably, this experience has left me questioning the reliability and commitment of the AAA car service team. I hope they take this feedback seriously and make the necessary improvements to ensure better service in the future.
Negative experience: Terrible terrible experience. I had sensor lights go off, took it in, paid $900 for replacing them. Drive about 15 min away after my car was returned , all the sensor lights go off again. I return it, this time they say it’s the ECM and now my car is in the shop for 3 weeks waiting on a part and someone to come and program it. I get no active updates, I am the one always calling to get them. Twice they have told me it’s ready, and I drive off and the problem returns. At this point, after having my car in the shop for over a month and $3k spent on all the replacements, I come in to complain and all I get is a shrug and “we’ve had problems with these sensors” as if that’s a reasonable excuse. I’m told I cannot talk to a manager until sometime on Monday and he will call me at some point that day. No sense of urgency or apology. Avoid this place. And this is coming from someone who is a AAA member but honestly after this exp I’m just using my insurance for roadside assistance. What a terrible place. My only regret is that I cannot rate this place lower than 1 star.
Negative experience: Horrible!!!! Pay for your cell phone roadside service if available. Call local tow service, Call police. Anything is more helpful .. AAA is worse than not having assistance.
Negative experience: When you fail at the simple things how can you manage the other (car services) well. Your listed Saturday hours for Travel Services on your Web site show the Durham NC South Square and Research Triangle branch offices as open. Yet when showing up both were in fact not staffed. I had tried calling as well the numbers specifically designated for Travel Services at the South Gate branch and it just kept ringing. Thus, FIX YOUR OPEN HOURS ON YOUR WEBSITE!!! And, LEAVE A MESSAGE FOR THOSE CALLING ON THE WEEKEND THAT ALL THE OFFICES IN THE RALEIGH / DURHAM AREA ARE NOT STAFFED. THE OBVIOUS: MOST PEOPLE DO THEIR ERRANDS ON THE WEEKEND! AND POSTING THE CORRECT HOURS AND LEAVE A PHONE MESSAGE FOR CUSTOMERS ARE SIMPLE, SIMPLE FIXES. TAKES A FEW MINUTES AND SAVES COUNTLESS CUSTOMERS UP TO AN HOUR PER PERSON. FIX IT. To fellow Google Maps users reading this, take your business elsewhere. When a business cannot manage the simple things, how can they fix your car? Ask yourself that before getting a membership or using their car maintenance / repair services.
Fantastic experience: AAA Travel, Car Care and Insurance team is great to work with. They are honest, professional and are always smiling! The past 3 months there have been unstaffing issues, but they are getting back to a full team! AAA is always there for you and cares about your safety.
Fantastic experience: Took car in for a diagnostic . Mike found out what the issue was and the price was SO MUCH cheaper than where we first went. He gave us a detail of all the issues with prices. THANKS AAA.
Negative experience: They’ll tell you that your $700 AC compressor has to fail before they’ll replace it, and then after it fails, they’ll tell you that, whoops, it exploded and now you actually have $2300 of work to do. They make their own business, they won’t take responsibility or offer a discount when it’s their fault, and that 3-year warranty they brag about doesn’t even pass to the next car owner, so it’s useless if you’re planning on selling your car within 1-2 years. They won’t even give you the 10% AAA member discount if any single part of your work is done under warranty, even if the rest of your work totals over $2000. They don’t give you enough information to make informed decisions, and I see now that that’s because they have so much to hide.
Negative experience: Terrible customer service. They installed a damaged headlight with multiple obvious paint blisters on the reflector and refused to order a replacement. After a long back and forth, they updated the part warranty from 30 days to 1 year and admitted to the blisters on the paperwork. Found out after the visit that they also broke the cap to the washer fluid and didn't notify me. The guys at the desk are awful, they mentioned the manager on site Jim Stewart and when asking to speak with him, the first answer was that he would be available if I waited around as he was "doing tickets" and then after they updated the part warranty they stated "he doesn't want to talk to you." It should be obvious, but don't go to AAA, if you ask how to file a support request they will pull up AAA on Google in front of you to tell you to report it there.
Positive experience: I stopped by on two Saturdays to get an international driver's license. One Sat they were closed - only open every other Saturday. The second time they had closed early. For a travel services company, it's not easy to get they're services on a Saturday!
Negative experience: Didnt get my oil discount even when I presented coupon received in mail Josh said he would talk to manager but he was busy doing something. Also they broke my horn emblem and didn't even try to put it back on I will not be back here again .They can do all the business in the world however they won't be getting any of mine .there are other places I can take my vehicle
Fantastic experience: I was amazed at the efficiency and honesty of staff at South Square. I had been dealing with a dealership that I was not happy with service department after first visit. I hope to continue getting my service at South Square.
Fantastic experience: 2-9-2023 MIKE made it more than car care service— he extended that to customer care service!!! Here’s how. Brakes overdue and in a frantic to get them serviced as soon as possible, Mike from scheduling the appointment to when the car was repaired and even beyond that, made sure my experience met my safety needs. He was polite, professional, and down right “good people.” He was patient and presented me with all the information as possible to make an informed decision —without being rushed. 8months pregnant and a whole lot of other complications that arose same day, he remained calm and level-headed and made sure to empathize my safety was most important and he would do everything within his ability to make sure that was the focus. I cannot thank him enough for the wonderful service he provided today! I’m beyond words to express my gratitude for the experience. Many thanks! Keep up the great work and I’ll see you on the next service visit! T.H 5-7-2024 A year later—MIKE did it again! Wow, same exceptional service just as before. I trust the service recommendations and the repairs completed. I also don’t worry about being “nickled and dimed” as cost are shared upfront with an explanation that’s accurate. Many thanks again for being such a trusted partner! 5-17-24 Because MIKE and team continue to exceed expectations, will be bringing vehicle #3 and vehicle # 4 for service moving forward. Many thanks again!!!
Fantastic experience: I was so grateful. As a nurse I need to be ready for changing conditions. Having my newer vehicle not running properly (sputtering, losing acceleration without a check engine light coming on) the day before a busy holiday weekend was not good. I called, they had my Jeep by 0830- diagnosed it and had it fixed in hours. Always friendly and helpful. They have worked on both my vehicles, in a timely and thorough manner.
Negative experience: My vehicle had a very dead battery. To the point that it couldn't be jumped off. Had my vehicle towed to this location. I had a AAA battery that was outside the 3 year free replacement period, but still within the 6 year prorated warranty period. Date code was M-18 so the battery was not quite 4 years old. I asked to have my battery tested and replaced if it was bad. This was around 1 pm, so about 5 hours prior to close. That allowed five hours for someone to work in a simple battery test. I was told I would have to wait for the following day because they were booked up. I informed them I was traveling and didn't have any arrangements for a place to stay, and couldn't leave my car overnight. They didn't offer me any sort of solution. I decided to replace the battery myself because I didn't have another choice. I pulled it out, and brought it inside and asked to have it tested and prorated, so I could purchase a new battery and install it myself. They informed me that the battery test has to be performed while the battery is still installed in the vehicle in order to be prorated. So I purchased the battery at full price, installed it myself, and drove away. Earlier this year I was employed as a GS-2 at a AAA car care location on the other side of the state. It doesn't take much time nor effort to set up a battery on a GR-8 battery tester for a diagnostic charge and walk away. While it isn't a B2Q test, as long as they attach the test printout to the battery, The warranty will still be honored. Unless a new policy has been put in place since 07/01/22 there was no requirement for the battery to be in the vehicle when tested. In my two years at AAA our service advisors never told someone who needed a battery that they would have to wait for the following day, unless we didn't have a battery in stock. Especially if they were traveling. AAA is supposed to be there for you in emergencies. If it had been after five o'clock, then waiting for the following day would be understandable. But this was at 1pm. This was a simple battery replacement, it took me about 10 minutes, and I even offered to do the labor myself. All they needed to do was throw the battery on a tester, and honor the warranty. As such, I'm not particularly pleased with my experience with this particular location.
Negative experience: Worst repair experience ever. Communication was negligent at best, they charged me for things my insurance had already sent proof of payment for. They gave me my car back with new damages form them hitting things in their shop. I had video evidence of this and they chose to do nothing about it. Took them almost three months to complete repairs they quoted me less than two weeks for. Ordered wrong parts THREE different times. VERY misleading with what little communication I did receive. I was told they processed insurance paperwork DAYS ago, only to call my insurance company and they hadn't heard form this AAA in WEEKS. Then later that day after my insurance agent calls the service manager the paperwork shows up within hours. Horrible experience, my car now has more damage than it did when I brought it to them.
Negative experience: Disappointed that "plain, regular oil change" which normally translates to conventional oil, here apparently means synthetic along with the typical increase in cost ($70!). Unaware of this until after the service had been performed. Time estimated at 90 minutes and took 2 hours.
Negative experience: I would HIGHLY recommend NOT using this place. Wish I could give a negative star. An electrical component went out on my car and this shop was the closest so I took it there. When they told me the problem we asked them if they were able to handle the job and they assured us they could. Over two months later and horrible communication while ordering wrong parts the car is still not right. Careless work with dirty/oily fingerprints on interior trim. Trim pieces broken and not put back properly. Missing knobs on control panel. Dealing with this place was an absolute nightmare. Awful customer service!!!! Again, please don’t take your vehicles here. After they returned the car to us there were lights and some electrical components not working properly. The AC would only work in park and not drive. After we told them that this was not how it was when we dropped it off they said there’s nothing they can do for us. the steering wheel was a good bit out of alignment from then pushing the car in and out of the shop with it off and them forcing the steering wheel. After we told them that the alignment was off they said they didn’t touch the steering wheel but there were missing cover pieces from the steering wheel when they went in there to do work on the wiring. The people working here are liars. We ended up taking it to the dealership and they went through it all and determined that there were two plugs that AAA put in the wrong spot and that this was causing all these problems. At first AAA would not respond and then after having our lawyer contact the store owner we finally got it resolved after a month or two. AAA finally admitted they were wrong and agreed to pay the bill from the dealership. Just when we thought everything was over the first check we received from them wasn’t the full amount we agreed upon. it wasn’t for awhile after that we finally got the second check. From when my car went to their shop untill we got the final check was about a half of a year. Again, please try to find another shop to take your automobile to.
Fantastic experience: I have been going to this facility for 15 years. It is the only auto shop I trust. They always do a thorough vehicle inspection and follow manufacturers recommended service. They give you the recommendations and you decide what things you choose to do. They are not pushy or try to sell you something you don't need. Unless you have a personal mechanic you won't go wrong taking your cars here for service. Btw, they are VERY busy and you will have to wait. Make an appointment and drop the car off if you can and come early if possible
Negative experience: I dropped off my car and keys at 10:20 am for an appointment for an oil change without any other service at 10:30 am. My car was not ready until 1:24 pm, and then it was only because I called and asked to be given my car back without a service at 12:38 pm. I've had my oil changed several times here. I'm always required to make an appointment first, and then it still somehow takes an hour to change oil. The last time I went I mentioned that I was getting picked up and I was told to expect 1.5-2 hours. I was shocked because what is the point of scheduling an appointment? Fortunately my ride would still be available in 2 hours so I rolled with it. After more than 2 hours I still had not received a call but my ride had brought me back to that shopping center, so I called and asked for the status of my car. I was told the person handling my car was at lunch and could I wait about 20 min for him to return and call me? I said I'd rather not, I need my car back, I'm here now, and if it's not done I just want to pick it up without an oil change. I was placed on hold and when the person came back they said my car is in the bay and will be ready in about 15 min. They said my paperwork got put in a black folder instead of red because I wasn't waiting with the car, and so it was not considered a 'priority' job. The suggested solution was to always say I'd wait with the car and never say I have a ride..... again I want to know why I need an appointment and why I was told a time frame of 1.5 to 2 hours. Anyway, after all this and being told my car was in the bay and would be ready in 15 minutes, it was another 45 minutes before I was called (which tells me my car hadn't been touched until I called after the first 2 hours.) When I picked up my car I also noticed that my oil life gage had not been reset, either.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to AAA for over 8 years. My vehicles have been well taken care of. If they make an era they correct it or pay whatever you’ve paid to recorrect it. Their honest, service and knowledge kept me as a valuable customer. When I say extra impressed I mean it. Jim I thank you my truck is running almost like new. One more repair and she will be. I think you guys are AWESOME. We had our ups and downs but what FAMILY doesn’t all that matters to me is the fact you guys were there and didn’t stop working until you got to the root of the issue, Cam thank you as well. You endured all my yelling and you stayed professional and keep say hi Mrs Goss . I’ve been a valued customer now for 9.5 years and I’m staying. ( 10/19/2023 added post)
Fantastic experience: I was assisted by Misa Bowers today. She single handedly certified my reasoning for joining AAA in the first place. She listened to my request. Fulfilled all my needs. She made logical suggestions which greatly enhanced my potential of enjoying my upcoming trip. She took the time to show me how to use my electronics in conjunction with my trip tix. Ms Bowers is an outstanding ambassador for AAA. If you own a vehicle; AAA helps deliver "Peace of Mind". Join!
Negative experience: Went in there to get a safety inspection, had an appointment at 2:30pm. After an hour and a half later I’m told that upon the inspection, they deemed that my two front headlights needed to be replaced? Remind you they work just fine, and unless I paid to have them replaced they would deemed my inspection as failed. Well I left, and they proceeded to tell me I owed them $25 dollars for the inspection “labor” whatever that means. I paid, took my car to another shop where my inspection was approved and passed and rushed to the drivers license plate office . Please save your time and money from this place. They will nickel and dime you for the stupidest things. Glad I knew better than to let them dictate the terms.
Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend the service department at this location enough. Not only was the service I came for speedy and excellently priced (replacing a flat tire), but the service staff went above and beyond for me in regards to another issue I had with my vehicle’s engine. After a passing mention of my issue, Mike and another staff member were looking up codes for me, searching TSB reports, and even offered to take a look at a write up from a previous service I had done at a dealership— all things completely unrelated to the service I had come for and paid for, out of the kindness of their own hearts. They gave me invaluable information and advice and really took the time to make sure I understood the process. It’s clear that Mike and others at South Square really care about their customers and I will definitely be back for future service!
Negative experience: Used this location for almost a year for inspections and various issues and fixes that happened with my car. The most recent(and last) issue arrived when they estimated over $3000 in repairs for multiple "fixes" to my axels, various leaks and power steering issues. I towed it to a recommended local shop who looked at it and told me that 2 of the 3 major repairs they listed were fine. The local shop repaired my car for less than half the price and it has now been running smooth for the last 2 months. I do not appreciate being upsold on things I do not need or being lied to. I will not be returning.
Negative experience: I’m a white woman in my fifties. Service seemed to be moving along until I was next in line. Their was no one behind me. Both men checking people in decided to leave their terminals at that point. One of them picked up used floor mats in the lobby, went to the back, then came back out front to complete work on the computer while I waited. I waited 15 min in that exact same spot. The entire time my keys and receipt were waiting beside the cash registers. Poor service. I expect more from AAA
Fantastic experience: It was almost closing time for AAA Care Center when we got there. We had run over a big screw in the shopping center parking lot. It was still in our tire and we needed a patch. My husband and I were in Durham for his radiation treatments at Duke and could not be without our vehicle. The team at AAA Care Center stayed late to fix our tire. Evan was the technician. He was very professional and even took time to check the fluids. Thank you to the team that went above and beyond at a very stressful time for us.
Negative experience: Got oil change and when I left I heard a ticking in my car that was not there when I carried the car in. I went back and they were not even willing to check to see if there was an issue. I made an appointment for the oil change, I was not a walk in. They have this big sign stating 100% satisfaction which is a joke. I had to almost beg to have someone just check to make sure it was safe. Finally they agreed to look and it was nothing serious, but the fact that I can to plead was uncalled for. The noise was not there when before the oil change, someone drove the car out of the stall, so they had to hear it, so they knew it was there, and still not not willing to just address my concern without me having to just as I said almost beg. I will never use AAA again, and would not recommend for any of my friends. Can you do a negative STAR
Positive experience: Took My car in for a oil change. I pretty much drive around town, about 4 weeks later my oil engine light comes on. So I call AAA to explain my problem, they told to make appointment bring it in. Also told me to do not drive my vehicle. So I had my vehicle towed in by AAA. The problem I had with the check engine light was due to AAA Not putting my oil dip stick back in tightly causing oil to spill out. That could have been a expensive repair.
Negative experience: I had a flat tire and I had the road hazard warranty so I called the service person Chris on the Friday Sept 3 he said it would be there the following Tuesday it wasn't, when I called them he said would he there the following Tuesday it wasn't.he processed to say because of covid and things be backed àt the port it would be six to eight weeks. So I called back and ask for the road hazard warranty phone number the person gave me the number.I called.I ask if I got my own tire would they reimburse me.they said yes I just need the claims number.I called back ask Chris for it there wasn't one he hadn't ordered it. So for two weeks he lied I ordered my own from Walmart was here in four days. He manager is staying he will pay me for the tire.but that's is not the point..
Positive experience: Staff was friendly and helpful. But I returned to my vehicle to find my glovebox in disarray. Instead of the tech asking me for the wheel lock, they took it upon themselves to search for it. They left the items on the seat and didn’t bother to return my glovebox to its organized state when I arrived. I don’t like that.
Negative experience: Terrible experience Everytime u go to triple a you are waiting for a very long time and if you are not there physically with your car they won't call or update u about your vehicle you get pushed to the side even if u have an appointment I get places are low on staff but that means customer service skills should be on point . I went to Westgate triple a in Durham . My car sat in the parking lot from 10 am to the next day to around 10 to get diagnostics test ran on my car they said it takes a long time for diagnostics .. now get this I went to the Honda dealership I had an appointment at 11:20 am they text me my results at 10:17 am and also had reasonable price for a fuel pump . However I love triple A's road side assistance service they are always on time and professional.
Negative experience: Caused and oil leak in my SUV. Took vehicle back to AAA and they made the leak worse. Solution offered was to allow AAA to fix it again, I requested an escalation and never heard back from the manager.
Negative experience: Advertise that you offer transportation only when you offer transportation. If you don’t, the customer will have to choose between paying $40 for an Uber home and back, or at best, waste an hour of his morning finding out in-person that AAA advertises something they don’t follow through with. Covid is not a reason to mislead. Be upfront.
Negative experience: They really need to work on the customer service part. I had to keep following up every day. I never received a callback. Only positive is the car appears to be back in great shape. AAA work on your customer service its very important for your good brand.
Positive experience: Jim, the Service Manager, was professional and clear in his explanation of the required repair to my car. Competitive price. 10% discount for AAA members.
Fantastic experience: I only have my car serviced at AAA. They have proven to be reliable over the years, and even with staff changes, they manage to maintain a high level of customer service. Joshua helped me this time, and he was delightful to work with. Thanks to the AAA car care staff at Westgate. Great work!
Fantastic experience: Friendly and professional folks are what I faced. I can't expect anything more from an automobile service store, been there for the state safety inspection, As expected, the report came as all good (as it is a one-year-old car), received a copy, the next day (very comprehensive, kudos to the report maker).
Negative experience: Showed up to the travel office today memorial day weekend at 3.25pm to get some maps finding out that the office actually closed early at 1pm. Signs at the door still mentioned office hours closing Saturday at 4pm... only mention closed Monday related to the holiday...unacceptable!
Negative experience: I set up an appointment for an alignment for 1:00pm, a 1:15min went by had 1 car in front of me a the alignment tech was just showing up,so I got my keys back and left. They are always slow, need a new system.I Don't plan on going back. If you have plans I recommend using a shop that get to you on time. I set an appointment at another shop and they where on time and price was lower.
Negative experience: I usually have a good experience here. The last time I went to have my battery checked out because I had some dashboard lights flicker on and off. After about 4 hours I called and was told it was just a sensor that needed resetting and it was ready for pick up. I went to go pick it up and then got in my car to leave and all of the lights were still on. I then was told it hadn’t even been looked at and that it wasn’t ready (I was taking time out of my work day to go get it). Then I go home and wait and then get a call saying they didn’t get to look at it that day and they wanted to keep it overnight. Then the next day I now owed $400 for a new sensor. It was overall a really frustrating experience and I was annoyed with how the situation was handled. If they were too busy that day I would have been happy to take it in the next day. It was also frustrating to have taken the time to go get it when they told me it was ready and they hadn’t actually even looked at it.
Fantastic experience: Everyone was very friendly and helpful. They were very clear and honest about what they were doing and what they advised doing for my car (and why). I love this AAA Car Care Center location and use them as often as I can!
Negative experience: If I could give this place zero stars I would. Do not get your car serviced here if you want knowledgeable professionals working on your car. These technicians do not know what they are doing. I had my car towed to this AAA Car Care Center because my engine stopped working while I was driving. After four days AAA claimed they finally figured out the problem. They said with confidence that my engine had no coolant and no oil in it and that I would need a completely new engine for $6k+. Since I recently had my coolant topped off and get regular oil changes at the VW dealer, I knew this had to be false. I had my car towed to a VW expert who told me that the AAA technicians had broken numerous things on my engine and had not put it back together at all. They broke all the wiring for the ignition coils, they took the Mass Air Flow sensor off incorrectly and left it out in the elements which ruined it, spark plugs were randomly lying around, intake cover was sitting in my front driver's seat, and they left screws lying all around the engine bay. Because my engine wouldn't run, they treated my car like a piece of garbage. After the VW expert diagnosed the car, he concluded that the timing belt had failed and the car was off time, which ruined the engine. The failing of my engine had nothing to do with the coolant or oil levels: they were all perfectly fine.
We're sorry to hear there was an issue in our South Square location, Michael. If you haven't already, please be sure to reach out to us at [email protected] with more details so we can investigate on your behalf.
Fantastic experience: Service reps were friendly and communicated well, didn't try to upsell me on things that didn't need to be done/that I didn't already know needed to be addressed and they completed the service in the time they stated. Their waiting area could use a few more chairs but I went to the Target while they completed their diagnostics (bought more than I intended) and the service rep was kind enough to let me bring the cart in the lobby. He also returned the cart for me
Negative experience: About 6 months ago I had a battery go bad in my car and purchased the replacement through AAA ($150). I went a few weeks without driving my car and the battery died. I called the technician and they were unable to jump the battery. It appeared to be totally dead. My car was parked in a garage, so when the service provider came, they were unable to perform a diagnostic test because they require the internet (who knew battery diagnostics would require the internet). The parking garage has a clearance that prevents them from performing a tow. They told me I was on my own. So I brought the battery to their care center for testing and they again told me that they are unable to test it, because they require it to be in a car for diagnostics. It's clear AAA will go to absolutely any length to avoid honoring their warrantee on a $150 battery. May as well light your money on fire than dealing with this company.
Positive experience: Brakes were done ok..the service after the fact was a disaster at checkout!!!
First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to tell us about your visit. We’re very sorry to hear about your experience. Please send us a email at [email protected] with your contact information. We’ll follow up.
Negative experience: When I went into the lobby to pay and get my keys, there were about 6 or 7 employees. One person was wearing a mask that covered his nose and mouth. Several had no mask on at all, and the others wore their masks so that only the mouth was covered - nose completely exposed. We are in a pandemic, people! Get with the program and wear your masks, and wear them properly!
Fantastic experience: I just went here for an emissions test and from the moment I walked in every staff member was very friendly, my service was great & on time. Jessica was a sweetheart & went above & beyond. Mike was also great, very friendly and easy to talk to. I will definitely come back. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: Battery died in target parking lot, jessica walked with me about a quarter mile to give me a jump. Then got me in and out in time for the meetings I scheduled th day. I considered a membership with aaa in the past, but I wasn't sold. I listened to the dozen or so benefits, saw how awesome the customer service was, and how quick I was able to get in and out and I signed up. Jessica is freaking amazing! She scrambled for information on my car, and bolted in and out grabbing the vin, make and model year, battery type etc....she 100% made it the best experience possible. Everything was quick, got a great battery with a better warranty, and signed up for their membership...look into their membership, its insane. Long story short, just go here before you go anywhere else.
Negative experience: Worst garage service ever! The car was working when we took it to fix something and it came out towed!!! They didn't even care! just asked for an extra rediculous amount of money than what was originally agreed to get it running again. Absolutely frustrating.
Negative experience: 7/11/20. Awful customer service experience. Agent was dismissive when I asked about coupons and didn’t go the extra mile to help me figure out my pricing for a basic oil change. I ended up having to call my usual AAA place and they helped me. He acted like he was doing me a favor when I was a paying customer. Won’t visit this AAA again. I usually go to the AAA off 55 and their customer service has never failed.
We're sorry to hear you had a bad experience in our South Square branch. Please be sure to reach out to us at [email protected] with more details so we can look into the situation on your behalf.
Fantastic experience: On my last visit I took my van in for non-functioning power windows. The mechanic discovered I had inadvertently activated a child-safe lock, and they turned me around with no charge. Thanks!
Fantastic experience: A million times more than expected. We had an emergency and while others were referring us to different places, AAA fixed the problem in no time. They very professional and made sure we were safe to continue our trip. We will be sure to shop them in the future. Thank you AAA!!
Negative experience: I find almost everyone there to be friendly, courteous and hard-working so do not want to disparage any individuals with this review. Unfortunately, both my car and my spouse's car have come back from AAA South Square with something new wrong on a couple occasions -- a sound or problem that did not exist prior to BASIC services like oil changes and inspections. My spouse had already written off this location. This time, my car was basically shaking the entire ride home after a tire rotation (was told that it would cost extra to come back for a balance, assuming the lug nuts were not loose which would require a tow!). Something is not quite right with quality control and I need to move on after several years with this location. To other consumers, be sure to ask follow-up questions about test drives to check work and confirm service warranties; also do a loop nearby to conduct your own test drive.
Positive experience: Made an 8 AM appointment and dropped my car off the night before requesting that they call with an estimate in the morning. At 10AM I still hadn't heard anything from them so I called only to find out that despite having made an appointment days prior they still hadn't started simply because I wasn't sitting there waiting. What's the point of an appointment if it won't be honored? Why should I be expected to sit and wait in their office for 3 hours for my car to be fixed?
Positive experience: Just like any other Auto repair chains, this place will try to over sell you the service your car does not need. This is common practice in this industry. Just say no to wheel alignment, fuel injector cleaning, any minor leak of fluid repairs.
Fantastic experience: I've found the people who check me in and out to be VERY professional: they provide me with GREAT ADVICE re the products and services I can choose from. I therefore get Top-Notch QUALITY. My appointments start on time
Fantastic experience: I had an excellent experience using my AAA membership benefits and the car care services of the AAA Car Care location on Westgate Drive (South Square.) My van had been having battery and starting issues. I called to have the battery services come and they jump started the vehicle. They determined that the battery needed recharged and directed me to go to the Car Care Center for charging. This could have been a great inconvenience since the center is normally very busy and I had a mid-morning engagement. However, since I had some possible issues with the vehicle, I hoped to consult with them on the problem. When I met Jessica, Assistant Service Manager, at the counter, she immediately began taking charge of the situation regarding the battery charging and listening to the details of the history of the vehicle. Her customer service skills are top notch. Her focus is on the customer and I was truly put at ease. She offered for the courtesy car to take me to my engagement or pick me up, whatever I needed. She personally consulted with the technicians on a plan for running tests. She kept in communication with me. The AAA team discovered a parasitic electrical issue that was draining the battery. They fixed it by the next day and I was more than pleased. I had never considered the AAA as offering more than basic car care, but I would have to say that they offer good diagnostic services and repairs as well. Kudos to Jessica and the team!
Fantastic experience: I went in for 10k service, they told me I was still under dealer care. Not many businesses will send you away to get free service when they could just quietly let you pay them for it. Exemplary!
Fantastic experience: The staff here are honest and professional. Great benefits for members and trustworthy warranties. I've had bad experiences at AAA on 55 and this location seems to take much better care of their customers. Highly recommend! Update: Jessica here is absolutely fantastic! She's knowledgeable, transparent, and won't try to sell you something you don't need. We have several vehicles and have had issues with other places in the past. We'll be taking all of our vehicles here and recommending AAA to friends and family. Thanks, Jessica!
Negative experience: Horrible experience. Car was in worst shape after I had it repaired here. They refused to admit any fault and wanted to charge hundreds of more dollars to fix a problem they created
We are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your service, Kimberly. We would like to hear more about your experience and have the opportunity to address your concerns. When convenient, please email us at [email protected] so we can reach out securely. Thank you! l
Negative experience: I brought my car here for its yearly inspection and they noticed that my brake pedal was acting odd when they drove it in. They offered to run a $45 diagnostic test, which we approved. The results of the diagnostic test apparently showed that the car needed a new brake master cylinder and ABS control module. All told, it would cost $2,271 to fix. They were very brusque and didn't take any time to explain to us the implications of these issues, or how they came to the conclusion that they needed replacing. We were unable to afford this kind of repair and I hadn't been experiencing any issues with the brakes, so we left without doing the repairs. Over the next month or so, I needed to add more brake fluid twice because the levels were low. At this point, we took the car to a local shop for a second opinion. They found that the caliper bleeder valve had been loosened and brake fluid had been leaking out, which was why I was needing to add more. They found nothing wrong with the rest of the brake system. This AAA location was negligent at best (the leaking brake fluid from the valve they left loosened corroded my wheel), and dishonest at worst. They have also found problems with my husband's car that cost us thousands and which we later learned were unnecessary repairs. I would not recommend taking your car here unless you're knowledgeable enough to avoid being taken advantage of and can double check that they didn't leave your car worse than when you took it in.
Positive experience: Two hour wait after arriving for 2 pm appt -- for just an oil change. Failure to put engine air filter back on--discovered by AAA road service (very good). BUT AAA-SS accepted responsibility when I returned, and immediately put in an engine air filter (new, I presume) at no cost. Glad I discovered in time!
Fantastic experience: Good experience - particularly with this branch. George and others behind the scenes present themselves as competent professionals. They did a pre-purchase inspection that exceeded expectations. I was able to buy a used Lexus 2008 from a private seller with a degree of confidence that I would not otherwise have. Pre-purchase inspection is the best money spent. The atmosphere at South Square is inviting as well - nice and comfortable waiting area with TVs, vending machines and complimentary drinks. Well done, AAA South Square. I'll be back.
