Fantastic experience: Always reliable suggestions and instruction. Fully stocked. Easy access. Friendly. Everyone is knowledgeable and expert. Great selection of gear.

Positive experience: Would be 5 star except their prices for flies are through the roof. First off, I love the fly shop, the staff is friendly and very knowledgeable with our local flows. I love the board behind the counter, it explains what’s working and where. The prices on the leader, tippets, waders, and rods all seem in-line with market expectations. The biggest drawback is the price of their umpqua flies, which can exceed 5$ for a single nymph, yikes! At that rate good luck on filling a 300 slot fly box for under 1k. I’ve also found a few of the umpqua flies are weak, and don’t handle more than a single fish before unraveling, at 3-5$ each I’d expect that fly to last multiple fish. Anyway, my .02 cents. Check them out, best fly shop in town!!

Fantastic experience: This wonderful store is right off of Interstate Highway 5, northbound in Redding California, is a fly fisherman’s dream, and is completely off the charts when it comes to knowledgeable Fly Fisherman, their hand-tied flies, and other fishing paraphernalia. Redding California is surrounded by five separate trout streams, all of them full of five or six different varieties of trout and salmon! Wish I lived there!

The fly shop is a one of a kind, you'll never see anything like it, fly fishing shops that should have gone nationwide long ago. Maybe they are now? But they are unique. I had a very small budget and they could not accommodate me but I was treated with respect and (TJ or JT) showed me what to look for and helped me see the value of the equipment I needed. They ship so I WILL buy from him when I am ready.

Fantastic experience: Had a great day! Cody our guide was very knowledgeable and nice! Lunch and water included for a beautiful day on the river caught a couple fish and had many more bites on our first trip out (I blame the inexperience on our end) had a great day and you can also get your license at the shop as well. By the way these guys also row up-stream most of the day pretty impresive. Very good day!

Positive experience: Trip to Trouters Patagonia. Great trip! Hosts were wonderful. Authentic Chilean food and drink amazing. Guides very kind and knowledgeable on all of the freshwater streams and lakes. Fly fishing very successful. Available spring creek fishing which we were told was ample, was never a consideration. Our intention to fish on small spring creeks was made early and repeatedly but was not an option. Very disappointing. Again trip overall great.

Negative experience: I’m fairly new to fly fishing, I went in asking for some information about fishing the area and the types of flys to use in the area and they were very rude and unhelpful. I did buy some flys and leader. This may be because of my young age but that’s no reason to treat a customer that way, I won’t be going back, I hope you all have a better experience.

Fantastic experience: Haven't experienced fly fishing yet. Stopped in for the 1st time and was taken back by all of the accessories for fly fishing. Amazing selection of all things fly fishing. Definitely recommend stopping in to get your gear.

Fantastic experience: This is a complete fly shop, all the gear you would need, and I didn't even go upstairs to the fly tying section. You can also book fishing trips through them.

Negative experience: Trash service. Cashier made me bag my own flies after individually taking them all out to count them. Additionally, the staff was pretty rude after explaining several times that I was new to fly tying.

Fantastic experience: We stop here often, but this time we needed to place an order via the phone for pick-up. They are always super friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. My kids are young but well versed fly tiers and they are always treated with tremendous respect. Love the staff and they are greatly appreciated. We look forward to every visit!

Fishing was difficult with the wind but Zach did a great job putting us in position to catch many big rainbow trout. Zach was great- he calmly helped my wife a lot. Negative experience: The fly shop in itself was a nice and friendly shop with tons of merch but the guided fishing trip was more like flyfishing boot camp. Very stressful and barking orders all day. This guy didn't let anything slide, "mend up! Mend down!" "Don't let anymore line out!". Then has a busted chair your not allowed to lean back in and yells at you all day for starting to lean back in it. For God sake put a screw in it. First and last guided trip, I go fishing to relax not take orders. It was hard to tell if he was trying to teach or just being a Di*#.

Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough about the team of guys at The Fly Shop! After American Airlines tried to ruin my trip to NorCal by canceling my flights and losing my luggage and my gear, the team at The Fly Shop did everything possible to rearrange my guides to make the most of what was left of my trip. Chris and Bryan did all the shuffling of the dates and guides and Ian, Paul and Matt went above and beyond when it came to guiding my brother-in-law and I on the Upper Sac, McCloud and the Lower Sac Rivers. We made some new friends, fished some new water, caught some beautiful fish and laughed until our faces hurt. While the trip from south Florida started out bad, it ended up great. Thanks again Fly Shop, I will definitely be back….but not on American Airlines!

Negative experience: Horrible service! DO NOT USE! Horrible service. Traveled to Redding to fish and the fly shop did not tell me there is no Uber in the AM, no Taxis, airport rentals hard to get. Everything closes down early and opens late. The owner instructed his employee to hang up on me. Will be posting to my 1.2 million followers shortly! Do not use The Fly Shop in redding! I have the recorded phone call. I will be posting it so everyone can see what actually happened!

Negative experience: For a fly shop with such a widespread reputation, I had one of the poorest experiences in my 20+ years of guided fishing. To begin with we had to spend time driving our own shuttles (never done that before), all we heard about was how crowded the river was when it was our guide who chose where to fish, and we felt rushed all day. Lunch, however, was among the best ever. Kudos. I feel like The Fly Shop does such booming internet sales that they care little about their day to day guided trip clients. Maybe they knew we traveled a great distance & didn’t think we’d ever be back anyway.

When my 8 year old son asked me “Dad can we go fly fishing?” I decided to look into a guide service who has a staff with the patience to work with an 8 year old. Everyone I spoke to highly recommended The Fly Shop in Redding. So I booked a trip with shop and they paired us with Ian. Ian was amazing. He an my son hit it off right. He had him casting and mending like a seasoned angler. In no time my son was hooking fish. Since then we have fished with Ian, Paul, and Brian. All are excellent guides with great knowledge of the water and area. The staff at the shop we’re extremely helpful and the booking process was easy. I highly recommend The Fly Shop and look forward to booking or next trip!

Fantastic experience: I have been going to the fly shop since 2010. I took a drift trip with them that year and got completely hooked on fly fishing. Shortly thereafter, I took one of their 2 day casting classes. I have been fly fishing ever since. I have taken several out of country trips through them. Mexico, Belize and Chile. Two Alaska and one Montana trip through them. I have been fishing on the Upper Sacramento several times and talked with either Michael Caranci or Mike Mercer to ask a question and they were great on helping me out. Every guide I have had has been above outstanding. I will continue to book my trips through them until my fly fishing days are over! Thanks to The Fly Shop !

This shop serves a purpose of supplying out of towners and clients with flies they need, terminal tackle, and whatever simms clothing you might be yearning for. Fantastic experience: We had an amazing time fly fishing on the Sacremento River. Our guide, Ian Stratte, was fabulous! I am surprised that he didn’t throw me overboard a few times due to my inexperience. He was patient and encouraging throughout the entire trip. The lunch that he provided was great! We didn’t want for anything. Highly Recommwnded. We may be following him to Alaska in the very near future.

Fantastic experience: This is my favorite place to go spend money. Hard to earn but real easy to let go of in this shop. All the staff are helpful and know what they are talking about. They have the biggest selection of everything fly related out of any shop I've ever been into. Prices are the same as on the internet and even if they were a bit hiked up I think it's important everybody supports their local fly shop. Sandy is the most knowledgeable and understanding person I've ever met. He's helped me so much. If you don't buy anything at least get a hat to rep the best fly shop in the country.

Positive experience: I have been fly fishing for many years. I have been to many shop over the years. This one has a very nice selection of everything. However I felt the prices were high compared to many shops that I have been in. And they were very pushy. Wanted me to buy things that they had that was the more expensive. When I told them I knew what I came for and been fly fishing for year. They did not want anything to do with me. I chose to walk out and go some where else. They like inexperience fishermen. They can influence them better and sell them more stuff.

That was awesome and since then I've come back for gear, tying equipment and even on the way to more of their lodges and land! Fantastic experience: Had a great time. In from Hot 'Lanta and had an awesome day even though the fishing was rated "fair"! Never fly fished, truely green behind the ears! Mike explained everything, had me practise then we went fishing! Had a strike and missed it royally! Mike my guide, teacher, and friend. Yes I would consider him a friend! Said well somethings there so ho rowed up stream to where we started and we started all over. Next 2 hits I landed 2 trout mo shorter than 18 inches. Overall, I caught 15 to 20 trout. Had a great experience! I welcomed the end only because my back started hurting and I started getting tired! I am hoping to get up there one more time before I leave the San Fran area!

Fantastic experience: I want to start out by saying that because of the fly shop, my brother and I are now closer then we have ever been. It's all thanks to their helpful staff that went the extra mile to ensure that our trip was made special. I wanted to take my brother fly fishing for the first time. I myself knowing very little felt overwhelmed. A friend who's a local here all his life told me to stop on by and talk to the guys in the shop. Needless to say I'm glad I did. To make this trip even more special I was asking my brother to be my best man. We had hardly any tackle, no flies, and one rod with a toasted reel. The guys there made sure that we had everything we needed. They didnt over sell us just made sure we had enough to get us into some fish. They even pointed us to spots on the sac and recommending times of day and evening to go. My brother and I now share the love of fly fishing together and plan to make a trip every year as a new brotherly tradition. I can't say how grateful I am to the staff at the fly shop for their outstanding service but also their compassion and empathy. Truly, a class act.
