Fantastic experience: Recently went to Fiji with Underwater Phantaseas, our host wasn't able to make it so Dave, our divemaster, stepped in and was a fantastic host! Everything from the diving to dinner karaoke Dave was on top of it to ensure everyone had a ball of a time. The trip was so good our family wants to go next year!

Negative experience: Underwater Phantasea's mosts current Facebook post notes: "We’ll help you get certified to scuba, meet new friends, so you can add some adventure to your next trip. Call us:", and yet I've called numerous times attempting to line up a certification with no response. The people I spoke to were quite pleasant, though each has taken my number and told me they would call me back at a specified time, "later today", "tomorrow morning at the latest", but none have done so. Numerous aspects of this surprise me. First and foremost that they are a noted PADI institution. Secondly: SCUBA is an activity that runs off of a basic level of trust, do garnering a distrust by failing to live up to your statements certainly isn't a good step forward. Thirdly, as a business in an industry where there are numerous competitive businesses, in the Denver area as well as generally speaking in U.S., it seems odd that someone wanting to give you their business is simply ignored. Though my experience with this company has been based on nothing but phone based customer support, I can't say they've garnered my trust or business.

Negative experience: Place is a joke. I bought my wife what I thougth would be a scuba certification class to learn that it actually doesn't provide you with a certification. Paid sight unseen....I highly don't recommend. As you walk up to the building that says "pool inside" you may wonder, how is there a pool in there??? That's because there is not. A hot tub would be a gracious definition. In addition, I had a brief conversation with the owner and I found him to be unprofessional in how he handles business. After requesting a refund, Derrick hung up on me like a child. This after his business kept me on a "future credit" while I had a legitimate medical issue, without telling me that holding this future credit past the return period will leave me without any financial recourse. Had I known this, I would have just requested the refund. I guess I got to learn to scuba dive in Derrick's hottub downstairs!!! stoked..... I highly suggest getting your certification somewhere else, maybe a place that actually certifies you at the conclusion.

I completed the PADI OWD certification with Underwater Phantaseas earlier this year, and I was impressed by the time and consideration I received by each member of staff that I came into contact with. Pool training went off without a hitch, and the small class size was perfect. Dave, Mark, and Luke were excellent instructors for the open water dives and took the time necessary to make sure the students completed the skills successfully. 10/10, would recommend!

From the easy and well organized process of the e-learning portion, to the enclosed training at their fantastic well-equipped facility in Lakewood, to the patient, professional, and friendly instructors (Russ, Christian, John and Luke), it was a great experience and I feel confident and ready to trying scuba on our next ocean trip :) Luke and Christian in particular during out open water Aurora Res dive went above and beyond to help us with our practice and skills. I'd highly recommend UWP for anyone looking to 'get their feet wet' with scuba!

Fantastic experience: Fleur & Dave with UWP were encouraging and extremely patient with my 12 year old daughter and 3 others that came in our group to Utah! We truly appreciate these two instructors. They showed extraordinary leadership skills! Our daughter is 12 and did her classes through UWP. We went to Homestead Crater in Utah for her final dive certs. At the Crater she was assigned to outstanding instructors THANK YOU FLEUR & DAVE

Fantastic experience: Went here for my scuba certification. The staff was helpful and accepting of the fact that my first day was not the best. They helped me overcome my fear of scuba. The discounts were fantastic on the gear as they helped me build my set within reason and budget. For never having any experience with scuba til now I can't recommend them enough. They have a Groupon as well which does help with the cost of the class as well. I can't wait til I'm fully certified in March with them as they have some amazing trips coming up this year! Well worth the 35 min commute for me to be helped and treated well.

Great shop, great instructors (Larry in pool dives, Bob & Kevin for Open Water dives at Aurora Reservoir). Negative experience: While I do feel like I learned the basic SCUBA skills from this company through their Open Water Diver instruction, my overall experience with this dive shop was poor. When I showed up for the first pool session, there were multiple large dogs running around the shop. I have pretty severe dog allergies, so this was a concern for me - diving with congestion/asthma is ill advised, even if it is only in a 10-ft deep pool. The 3 evening pool sessions were crammed into 2 nights and felt rushed. At the end of each of our pool sessions we were told to dunk our gear in a freshwater rinse, but there were no visible sanitization procedures taken to clean our regulators, mask and snorkel after we used them, which grossed me out since you put those things in your mouth/on your face. When I asked my dive instructor about this, he told me that there was a staff member that would sanitize these items the following morning. I find that hard to believe given my overall experience with this shop. Then, there was the open water dive experience at Homestead Crater. My gear rental reservation for the trip was lost. Once I got the gear rental sorted out, the gear that I was given was not modern gear, and both the air tanks I was given were leaking air when I used them on the dives. One of the people in my dive group at the Crater had an SPG that was completely unreadable due to fog/debris on the inside of the glass, but was advised to dive anyhow (which is honestly terrifying). On our 2nd day of dives, while we were doing our pre-dive safety checks, this same person discovered that his 2nd rental air tank, which was rented to him by the shop should have been full, was completely empty. And, at the Crater there was confusion around the expectations and logistics around who would dive when. My husband was doing a SCUBA Refresher (the PADI ReActivate program), and on day 1 began diving around 8am. We were told that day 2 dive times would be the same as day 1, so he showed up at 8am again on day 2, only to find that he had nobody to dive with (one of the cardinal rules in SCUBA is to never dive alone). Fortunately, my dive instructor let him join my group at 10:00am, but that meant that he got to the Crater 2 hours earlier than necessary, and had to just sit around waiting to find out if he'd be able to dive or not. Overall, the in-the-water instruction on basic SCUBA skills was OK - not great, but OK. However, communication with the shop and all the procedural things that went along with the experience were very poor.

Fantastic experience: Was a previous scuba school drop out because of anxiety at another shop. Worked with Kevin in the pool and he was patient and easy to work with! Did my cert dive this weekend with Marcie at homestead crater and she was also very patient and amazing despite the water visibility not being the greatest (anxiety trigger) she was so great I didn't even think about it. Am booking a private buoyancy lesson next week and I can't wait. Highly recommend

Negative experience: Bad instruction. Faulty equipment. Horrible experience. I was surprised at open water certification to find out there were skills I hadn't learned in the pool. I was given bad equipment. The person that was working in the shop at the time was arrogant and wouldn't take responsibility for the bad equipment. I'm doing this again but with a different company entirely that I trust will treat me right and keep me safe.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic place very welcoming staff. Reasonably prices on classes and trips, rentals are great quality, glad they are so close. Indoor pool and is a great temp. A must if you want to get into scuba or already have this is a great shop in Lakewood. Looking forward to having my kiddos get certified here.

Fantastic experience: I did my Open Water Certification with UWP and love this shop! I'm sure everyone there is great but can say from experience that Rusty and Kevin are amazing instructors to work with and Val in the shop is so helpful and kind. I plan to do more certifications with them once we're all allowed out of our houses again and highly recommend them to everyone!

Fantastic experience: My wife and I recently got our openwater certification through Underwater Phantaseas and it was a great experience start to finish. I shopped around before signing us up and all-in, pricewise - combined with good reviews - Underwater Phantaseas surpassed all expectations. Our instructor was Tim and he's a great guy. He made the experience educational and fun, but most importantly my wife and I felt safe with him. It's no big deal when you're in a pool and all you have to do to breathe is standup. But eventually, when you're 60 feet down and everything you've learned is all that's keeping you from drowning or being seriously injured, it's super important to have properly learned everything you need. Tim absolutely did that. By the time we got down to depth we felt confident to be there. I can't stress enough how important his guidance was. Everyone there was very helpful and nice. If I choose to expand my certifications (which hopefully I will), there is no doubt in my mind that I'll be going back to Underwater Phantaseas.

Negative experience: The only reason I am giving this place more than one star is Kevin he was so awesome! After my not so great experience in the 2 day class portion I paid for an extra private lesson with the instructor my husband had. Kevin was super patient and helped me with the skills I didnt feel comfortable with. He really took his time and made sure I was comfortable. HE IS THE ONLY PERSON I WOULD TRUST AS AN INSTRUCTOR AT THIS SCHOOL! The classes I had seemed very rushed you do a skill once and move on. At times I felt I really didn't grasp what I was doing and we just moved on. This made me feel very unprepared and gave me some pretty bad anxiety. At one point my hands and feet went numb and I was shaking. After my classes I expressed to my husband that I didnt wish to continue because I felt uncomfortable and unprepared. He encouraged me to book a lesson with Kevin and I felt so much better. Then came test day, I was put in a group with Paul and another guy I cant remember his name. I was still very nervous, the extra heaviness of the suit, and the very very low visability & cold of the Aurora reservoir made it a little worse. On our first dive we were descending and my buddy was having issues with his mask so the instructor took my buddy up and told me to go down the rest of the way alone and I felt like he was rushing me to do so. After I had previously told him I was extremely nervous. Not wanting to go alone I went to the surface with them. The other group came up and the other instructor told Paul that we hadn't made it down yet. I expressed that I was uncomfortable going alone and nervous. Paul said he would take me down 5 feet to do the skills test. We went down I tried to partiality flood my mask and clear it. I attempted to clear it several times (improperly fitting mask my fault) ended up swallowing water and had to surface. I surfaced with even more anxiety and nervousness. He told me to sit there and hang on to the buoys while I was having a literal panic attack, while he took the other guy down to complete the first dive skills. The other instructor was doing surface skills with the other two in our group. So there I am in panic mode all 3 skills of dive one incomplete. Paul had me do the surface skills with my partner and that got me feeling a little calmer. Then we came back together as a group and Paul informed us we would be doing our second dive. Yet I hadn't completed the first dive skills yet! It seemed they were more interested in finishing than helping me. I felt extremely rushed and that working with me was an inconvenience since I was nervous. So I refused to do the second dive, so they all went down left me alone clinging to a buoy again. They came up and said I could try again tomorrow. No one wanted to take the time to work with me. I was given one chance that was it. No encouragement just well you cant do it. As we were swimming back my partner stuck with me and could tell I was upset and was holding on to me, helping me swim back. The instructors joked how all the women take advantage of the tired diver tow. I did not find this amusing. I was having trouble, was already upset, now Im being mocked as a woman for needing help!!! After we got to shore no one bothered to talk to me offering any advice or encouragement. I sat there feeling as tiny as a person could posibly feel. I watched the other schools that were there as they came out the instructors high fiving their students offering advice and encouragement. The other schools broke the dives into two. They would do the first dive and then come back in eat lunch discuss the first dive then go back out for the second. It seemed relaxed and fun. My school was a rushed experience that left me feeling defeated and alone, I thought diving was supposed to be about community and helping your fellow divers? I felt so uncomfortable after their blatant attitude towards women and lack of patience that I decided not to return for the second dive day. Needless to say I will be finding another school to complete my certification with.

Fantastic experience: This place sells snorkeling and scuba diving gear they also have a pool downstairs where you can take snorkeling classes they also going snorkeling Adventures and scuba diving Adventures around the world if you are interested in scuba diving this is a place you want to check out located just a little bit north of Alameda on Union on the east side of the Union the guy that we talked to and there was very informative and really nice this may be something I want to pursue in the future

Fantastic experience: I originally discovered Underwater Phantaseas through Groupon. I called them for more information on their Open Water Scuba Diver Certification. They said I could purchase the Groupon deal through them and I am happy to say that my experience was wonderful. Craig and Melissa were my instructors and they were very knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable. The classes and pool time prepared me well for the open-water dive at Aurora reservoir and I was so proud of myself upon completion. Their encouragement meant more than they know! I am happy to say I got my certification in June of 2018, and in July 2018 went diving in the Grand Cayman's and Honduras. Next month, my boyfriend and I will be diving again together in the Bahamas! I also purchased fins, mask and snorkel with my student discount and I couldn't be happier! Thank you!

Fantastic experience: If you want to get your PADI cert and solid scuba lessons, you found the right place! Underwater Phantaseas has been amazing on every level. My boyfriend and I were looking for a place that was appropriately priced and had kind people who would show a couple of newbies the ropes. Tim R and Jill G are absolutely fantastic! But overall, the staff here are incredibly knowledgeable and look out for you. They talked us out of buying a really expensive pair of face masks and took the time to teach us what to look for in our equipment. We never felt pressured into buying anything or ever felt talked down to. Just an all around great experience. After all is said and done, we definitely feel like we underpaid.

Negative experience: This place does NOT take scuba diving instruction seriously! If you are certified/licensed to dive and see this picture they use to advertise Underwater Phantaseas on Groupon, you should be able to see what the problem is in this picture very quickly. If you do not know what is wrong with the photo, you should either get some more training/education with a BETTER INSTRUCTOR/LOCATION/SCHOOL or sell your gear (if you have any) and not dive anymore. The problem is that the person in this photo is showing an incorrect hand symbol as she is already at the surface; instead, she shows the "go up or go to the surface" sign (thumbs up sign), instead she should show the "ok" sign where your thumb and index finger make a circle. If the instructors cannot teach their students proper hand signals, what else are they messing up?? Do they teach buoyancy? Do the instructors teach other vital skills properly (emergency controlled ascent with no air, sharing air, proper fin kick techniques, mask clearing and replacements, etc)? And your divers could use more training on entering the water, I remember seeing one of your divers hit the boat with his/her tank as he/she slid into the water instead of using the big stride like should be done.

I bought a BC that I used during the pool training. I was uncomfortable in it. The owner refunded the entire price and let me pick another BC that suited me better. Their prices are comparable with anything you can find elsewhere. Their customer service is second to none..

I feel like they just give solid advice - they try to read you and do what they would do in your shoes. Being a newer diver, I would much rather spend a little bit extra to buy my gear here than online.

Kevin instructed as and was patient and fun. So excited to be a certified diver! Want to add that I purchased some things from the store. I used them on my dive and liked some and not others. When we got back the customer service was unbelievably wonderful. They took things back with no questions asked. I haven't had that good of customer service in years (if ever). Everyone in there cares, is willing to help and extremely nice. Thank you Underwater Phantaseas for everything! I will always be a customer!

Fantastic experience: Good people Dive shop & dive training facility. Certified here years ago & still go there to refresh my skills. Basic changing rooms, but nice & clean. Pool is warm.
