Negative experience: We are fairly new AAA members and have yet to use the car care services. My husband stopped by the Scott's Addition a couple of weeks ago to schedule a state inspection and oil change. The man behind the desk was curt, dismissive and in general did not want to help my husband. He spoke to my husband as if he was a bother and dumb. This has been our first face to face interaction with a AAA location and it rated zero. This man should not be the face of this business or location. We took our oil change and state inspection to a neighboring mechanic.

Negative experience: Overall very rude people working the front desk. Last time they lied and did not rotate my tires.

Fantastic experience: Always a great customer service experience. Efficient and reliable friendly staff.

Negative experience: The guy at the front desk was rude to me when I was in there 6 months ago. We gave them a 2nd chance today and he was rude to my wife as well. So rude that she left and went to the Glen Allen location instead. Won't be returning.

Negative experience: Bought 3 tires from this place and they all started leaking air to the point of going flat shortly after being put on. The employees are extremely condescending and rude and I will never be getting service here again.

Negative experience: The absolute worst service I’ve ever had. I made an appointment for an oil change and new wiper blades. Dropped my car off and two hours later they hadn’t even moved it. The guy argued with me about the time frame! When I told him it was him I spoke to he denied it. Hours later I arrived to pick up the car and they told me they were missing a part and waiting for a truck. This went on for another two hours. Then they couldn’t get the computer to work. Do NOT go there! Unless you want to spend 5 hours trying to get a simple oil change. :( PS they forgot to check my wiper fluid, tire pressure and screwed up my dash settings. Not sure what else they forgot !!!

Fantastic experience: I made an appointment for the same day and I was in and out very quickly. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The facility was clean and inviting and, with the AAA discount, what would usually cost me over $100 ended up being under $50.

Negative experience: I’m sorry but I can’t take you seriously when you are at your place of work and you have a big a$$ childish red vape right in front of you (foreshadowing my experience at this place). I scheduled an appointment online for an oil change and when I arrived, they told me the online scheduling “doesn’t work on their end.” So maybe…fix it or take the link down? That was very frustrating, but when I came back, they said my tires needed to be changed as soon as possible (which they do), and quoted me $775 for TWO tires. I don’t know if because I am a younger female they were trying to take advantage of me, but I knew what they were doing, I found the same tires down the street for $180 a piece thank you. I am also a little concerned that they didn’t realize the poor state of my tires or inform me when the same establishment looked at my car not even 3 months ago. The men that work there are very unprofessional and disrespectful of your time which is a shame because I am new to the area and I l LOVE my AAA from home, but now that this is the only one in my area I might just cancel my membership. Thank god I have a Costco membership!

Negative experience: I've used this location before but I won't step foot in there again. Whoever you guys have at the service desk now sucks and is going to lose you guys a lot of business. Get someone in there who gives a crap about there job. Lazy and worthless!

Fantastic experience: Tyler and Charles was very informative. The customer experience made me a bigger fan of triple AAA services and personal. Now I am prepared to embark on many journeys. Thanks to supporting staff as well!

Negative experience: UPDATE: AAA customer service promised to contact me to follow up on my complaint, but they never did. AAA’s customer service is sub-par. The auto service desk attendant is always rude and as unhelpful as can be. I don't know what AAA tolerates a person with no interpersonal skills to interact with its members and customers. Was told that I was #3 in line for state inspection and yet they didn't even look at my car three hours after I dropped it off. And they couldn't provide a rough estimate on when the state inspection would be completed. Take your car elsewhere for service until AAA finds better people to staff the auto service department of this location.

Negative experience: Older gentleman at front desk was very rude, poor customer service and treated customers like they weren’t as smart as him. Cancelled my order after the way he spoke to me and upon walking out another customer said he is like that all the time and this isn’t the first time the gentleman was rude to customers. Wont be returning here.

Negative experience: I’ve been a loyal and pleased customer of this location for three years for all my car maintenance needs. However that changed today. I scheduled a noon appointment for an oil change and tire rotation and was told it would take 1 hour and 15 mins. I indicated I would be waiting for the vehicle but was stepping out for lunch. I returned at 1:45pm (30 mins after the work was due to be completed). All staff members were engaged either on the phone or with other customers, so I went to the waiting area. After 15 minutes I went to Valerie who was the only person available at the car care side. She quickly, without confirming my name or vehicle info, quipped “they haven’t brought me anything yet.” So I went back to the waiting area. 45 minutes later, I go back to check on the status of my vehicle. Valerie then asks me if I’m waiting for *a different vehicle than mine* and I said “no, it’s a 2016 civic for a 12pm oil change and tire rotation.” She searches the computer and back counter for paperwork, and then indicates she needs to check with the mechanic. After a few minutes, she comes back and says “they are just pulling in your vehicle.” To which I responded “is it still going to take an hour? I’ve been waiting since noon and was told it would be done by 1:15pm. It is now 2:50pm”. She said “that’s how long the service takes, so yes” So take note that scheduling an appointment here, even as a premier AAA member, does NOTHING for the staff to honor their own word or to have the decency and proactiveness to call or simply step away from their computer to update customers waiting that there is a significant delay in completing their work by the time they promised. Now instead of taking just 2.5 hours of work off, I have had to miss half a day when I could easily have made alternate arrangements and come back to pick up my vehicle later. It’s extremely inconvenient and not even an apology or any sense of empathy was expressed or shown. A simple straight face from Valerie is all I received. AAA customer service here is sub-par. UPDATE: I decided to ask for the manager and was quickly told “we are waiving the oil change fee for the inconvenience.” And I said “that’s nice but I still want to speak with him because this lack of customer service is not acceptable.” I spoke with John and shared my grievances. He indicated he didn’t know what happened and why my car wasn’t serviced in a timely fashion. That he was rushing the complete the service and then figure out with the mechanic why this happened. Mind you only an oil change was reference and I reminded him that I also came in for a tire rotation” It’s been 3.5 hours and I’ve now had to clarify three times what services I scheduled my appointment for. Not to mention wait 3x the normal timeframe for them to be completed. Car dealerships are starting to look way more appealing when you consider you don’t have to be a member to have the same experience.

Negative experience: Hard to get a person... been trying to sign up for membership but keep getting transferred.

Negative experience: They kept my car for longer than they estimated and kept lying about when the parts for my car would come in. Also customer service was not kind and supportive in any way except when it was time to settle up. Avoid this establishment if you want decent service. Also the car is still having some issues caused by them.

Negative experience: Showed up during regular business hours on a regular business day to get notarized copies. Only one person at this office is a notary and they aren’t in today. If AAA claims to offer a service, there should be someone scheduled every business day to offer that service.

Negative experience: Terrible attitude. Very short answers and no interest in actually providing a service. Apathetic attitude. Worst experience I’ve had with AAA. I will take my vehicle to another location.

Negative experience: I have never written a negative review but I feel obligated in this case. Bill, the customer service person and mechanic was awful to work with, almost leaving me in tears. Not only did he give me a ridiculous quote, but upon taking it to another garage found out he was attempting to do unnecessary service to my car. I will never be returning!

The original review can be found below: They say they do an inspection and tire rotation with every oil change. The past *several* times I have been there, they have done neither. Why be a premier AAA member if it doesn't actually matter to AAA? Shameful. If you need basic car care go elsewhere, I will be from now on.

Negative experience: Went to this Scott's addition AAA and DMV on a Tuesday morning. I had called previously to get information. I was told they could insure my car and handle transfer of title and registration. When I got there I was told that the insurance person may or may not be coming in and that no DMV transactions could be done because their computer was down. No other DMV computers were down.The associate was extremely rude. In a nutshell, I made a trip all the way over there for nothing.

Fantastic experience: I love how they treat their AAA members... This membership actually offers a lot more than what people know about when it comes to their services.

Negative experience: I was told during an oil change at a different place that I needed a routine service done on my rear brakes- they told me the brake pads looked pretty worn and could use replacing. I figured maybe I'd be able to get the service done using my AAA membership and decided to test out my local branch. It was an absolutely terrible experience. The cashier up front, Valerie, asked me to repeat myself and re-answer questions I'd already answered several times during both drop-off and pickup. They also made me wait around an extra 5 minutes at the end because they couldn't figure out their own credit card machine. But that wasn't even the worst part. For the rear brake pad service, I was quoted at about $200 total. I dropped off my car, and 45 minutes later, received a call back from them, informing me that their "technician" recommended over $1100 worth of repairs, and a bunch of other services that I had not asked for. They were also very pushy about it- I had to explicitly state several times that I wanted to opt out of certain recommendations they had. Again, I had to tell the cashier about 7 times that I wanted to decline all the services being recommended to me and that I didn't want $1100 worth of work on my car that I may or may not need until she finally figured it out. I ended up getting the rear brakes serviced so that it wasn't a complete and total waste of everyone's time. Even if I do indeed need the services recommended, there was absolutely no way I was going to let them do all that, given how awful the person over the phone was and how freaking expensive the quote was. I'm seeking a second opinion now, and I have no doubt that I'll be given better recommendations and a cheaper quote from just about anywhere else. If I hadn't been as assertive as I was about my service, this place would've committed highway robbery of me and not even felt bad about it. Not to mention my gas tank was also suspiciously lower than it should’ve been for a small amount of work and only leaving it there for a day… My AAA experience for things like roadside assistance and saving money on theme parks have been mostly good, and I'm starting to think that's what they should stick to. Because their auto service experience absolutely SUCKS.

Negative experience: I went to AAA to have my tire looked at because it kept losing air. I also recently had this tire replaced at this location (less than 2 months ago). I told them I thought it was the valve stem bc I could hear air coming out when you touched it. I told them I had to stop three times on my way home from DC the day before to put air in it, so something was definitely wrong. I didn’t have an appointment bc this happened on a Sunday evening, but I arrived at the shop right at 7:30am, hoping they could fit it in throughout the day. I needed my car back on the same day, because I needed to drive 3 hrs work work the next day. The customer service rep was rude from the second I walked in. Showing me a stack of paperwork they had to work on that day and how he wasn’t sure he could fit me in. I told him that it’s fine if you can’t, I’ll take it somewhere else. He said they could look at it and call me before 5pm. A couple hours later, they gave me a call and told me nothing was wrong with the tire. They filled it up with air and I was good to go. I knew this could not true based on my experience the day before. I asked again if they checked the valve stem, because I heard it leaking. He assured me they did and nothing was wrong. I went to pick up my car and fiddled with the valve stem and heard air leaking right away. I walked back to the rude customer service rep and asked him or a mechanic to come to my car so I could show him how it was leaking. He goes out with me, I show him, he touches the valve himself. Confirms it’s leaking, stands up and says, “Well we can replace the valve stem if you want”. If I want? I told him I’d take my business elsewhere. I had already called NTB to see if they could take my car in anticipation. NTB is just down the street was able to look at my car right away. They confirmed it was the valve stem and fixed it on the spot. To my surprise, they also didn’t charge me. Save your time with AAA and check out NTB! Or literally anywhere else. AAA seriously needs to check their customer service and skills of their mechanics. Unacceptable. They were willing to send me back on the road with a faulty tire. I used to take my car here for everything, but I never will again.

Negative experience: My daughters tire was leaking air on her drive back home to Richmond yesterday and while I was on the phone with her for almost an hour. The vehicle tire pressure monitor would loose a pound or two of air every 10 minutes or so and she would stop and pump it up with her portable air compressor. Today she brings the car to this AAA location to get it fixed and explained that it "seemed to be the valve stem that was leaking". They took the car into the shop, put air in it and called her back and said "no it was not leaking". Again she explained that there seemed to air leaking from the valve but they apparently were not interested in troubleshooting the problem any further. She returned to get her car and took the mechanic outside and touched the valve stem and showed him air was leaking; At that point he agreed he heard it leaking and said "ok would like us to fix it?" Instead she said no and took the car to NTB where they promptly came out looked at the problem and replaced the Shrader valve inside the stem and the problem was solved. My advice is to go elsewhere for auto service: Clearly these guys know little about caring for a repeat customer, solving problems, nor do they care to take a little extra time to troubleshoot a simple problem after it has been explained to them by the customer! Moreover, they treated her like an idiot, especially during the call-back while explaining for a 2nd time that the stem would leak they would just go outside and wiggle the valve. They simply ignored her and said "there is no problem". When I called them they were short with me on the phone and showed very poor customer service. Clearly they do not know how to treat people and it seems especially true if you are a woman.

Negative experience: In a previous review, I said I'd only come to this location for oil changes. Now, forget that. My sister mentioned there was an oil change special for members ($13.99) so I made an appointment. On my way to the office, my car had trouble. It wouldn't accelerate over 50 and felt like I was driving with my brakes on. I had to get off the highway. When I arrived at the office, my driver's side tire was SMOKING. I asked the person at the desk to have the mechanic check my transmission fluid as a possible issue. But also, if they could check the source of my SMOKING TIRE!! The desk person seemed hesitant and I asked again and they assured me it'd be checked. An hour later. While the only other customer in the waiting area is talking loud on their cellphone complaining about their nephew and in the closest seat to me... We were the ONLY people there. Why are you so close to me when covid still exists ?!? The desk person comes to tell me my car is finished. When I asked if the source of the SMOKING TIRE was addressed they froze and then told me yes. I asked again and they said yes. I was told my car and my tires were fine. But that the service person recommended I get an air filter, a cabin filter and an alignment. When I asked if the source of the smoke was an alignment, I was told yes. I asked again If they were telling me that my tire was smoking bc I needed an alignment and they confirmed that. I stared. Ain't no way. I asked about the smoke again and they said it could have been some oil. Odd. I had no oil leak before then. I turned down the $250 in services they recommended and even though my tires were supposedly good. The tire recommendations and called my own mechanic. Apparently, the source of the smoke is a abs module that went bad. The smoke is from driving with the brakes on as the abs module malfunctioned. While AAA was trying to nickel and dime me on services I didn't need. I have paid over $600 for new brake assembly, rotors , pads etc and the hydraulic abs module costs about $400 plus labor.If we can find one bc the part is on backorder. All in all about $1k in actual parts and labor I actually needed. This service center has one job and it does it horribly, repeatedly. From now on maybe AAA should stick with towing and travel. Their service centers lack customer service, conscience and reliable and trustworthy service people.

Negative experience: I have been on hold trying to phone this location for the past 20 minutes. Though I have had decent service when visiting this location in person, their inability to answer the phone is unacceptable.

Negative experience: I used to go here since the old AAA member price for an oil change was about $20 which was pretty great. On each visit there were multiple suggestions for expensive repairs which were deemed unnecessary by another local garage, and each time the staff would report that my tires had been rotated when they really hadn't (you can see your car being worked on). I was willing to put up with this for the cheap oil change, but now that the prices have increased there isn't a good reason to come here. Edit: You'll see a similar story from another 1 star review where a customer came in for an oil change and was told they needed $700+ worth of new hub assemblies only to have their regular mechanic say the hubs were fine.

Fantastic experience: AAA always takes care of me! I came in looking for some updated versions of maps I’d gotten back in 2012 for National Park guides. They greeted me promptly, pointed me in the right direction for all the maps, and were quick to get me on my way! It’s so nice that these maps come free with your membership, too.

Negative experience: I called them twice, got hung up on twice… called yesterday to set up an appointment, never got a real time showed up in the morning after being hung up on twice to get told that they can’t service my car so just be careful because they’re wishy washy.

Negative experience: There was an older guy there with glasses. He was kinda bald and had a moustache. He was very rude and I saw him talking with a customer in a very condescending way.

Negative experience: I don't know where to start here. The 500 is hotels this place cost me. The inability of the mechanics. And one of the mechanics lying to my wife to try to buy my car for his wife. My serpentine belt went and they charged over 2 k and caused a bunch more problems. Bare in mind I don't live in Virginia. So instead of fixing my car which they had no idea how to fix, but they installed my alternator wrong and the car died 45 minutes later. Still paying hotels at this point. 10 days they held my car with no cares about my wife and two kids that were stranded. I will be filing a complaint with AAA about this as well. They cost me well over 2k and the continued problems are costing more.

Positive experience: I love AAA and have been using them for years, but when I went into this location one of the employees was very rude to me, kept cutting me off and belittling me when I was trying to explain my situation. I believe his name was Bill, kind of an older man. When I went back to pick up my car, another employee helped me and was much nicer and answered my questions. The company has good service but avoid him if you go in for customer service at this location.

Negative experience: No employees which is a sign of the time but, unfortunately, the worker let me stand in line for literally 17 minutes (while he helped someone else) before telling me! (Did it not occur to him to excuse himself from the first customer to greet me and apologetically send me on my way?) We left and went a few blocks over to Merchant who were guest focused, HELPFUL, and friendly. The facility was very clean and the waiting room had a wide vairety of great books of all genres to peruse while they proficiently repaired my vehicle. Definitely, a tale of two shops!

Every employee there was awesome and friendly. The car tech guys were truthful, quick and knowledgeable, Vanessa was so much help with getting a rental car. Dana made me feel comfortable, made me 2 cups of coffee. My whole experience there was reassuring considering what bad news I got with my car. Being broke down in a state your not familiar with, this place helped.

Fantastic experience: My car would not start so I called AAA. Their service man arrived within 15 mins. He found my battery which was 6 Yrs old needed to be replaced. He installed a new battery at a reasonable price as well as explaining why my battery failed. He answered all my questions and completed the replacement within 20 mins.

Fantastic experience: I was set to go on a road trip the next morning when, of course, my battery light came on. I called another AAA location and my usual local body shop I use for basic maintenance and neither could get my car in that night. I called this AAA location and Kyle said to bring it right over, he’d check it out. He got it looked at as soon as I arrived (luckily my car survived the drive there). As expected, my alternator was shot. Kyle ordered the part that day, gave me a very accurate price estimate, and had it installed first thing in the morning. I was able to get on the road for my trip by around 10:45am, which the day before I was worried wouldn’t be possible. Huge thanks to Kyle for prioritising my car and letting me get to my friend today!

We ran over something while in town and needed a fix quick, no one was willing, but I called Kyle and he said come on in. The stayed after hours and didn't charge us to patch the tire. Also theplace is super nice and clean !

Negative experience: Completely unhelpful. AAA towed my car here after it broke down on the highway. I had to explain multiple times that I suspected an issue with the fuel pressure system. It took them about 4 days for them to tell me “we think there’s an issue with a fuel pressure system.” They couldn’t fix it. Then they sold me on a trans flush, but when I came to pick up the car (10 days later), I learned they hadn’t done it and could not do it. When I pulled the car out of their driveway, The same exact issue that I had brought it in for started reoccurring. I knew I had an unresolved fuel pressure issue that could only be fixed by the dealership. However, the mechanic told me it was working fine for him (magically) and I’d be able to drive it to the dealership myself. I barely made it home and 3 hours later, when I left to take the car to the dealership to fix the problem these guys couldn’t, the car broke down on the highway again. I called AAA Scott’s addition to ask how this could have happened. I did not get a decent explanation or an apology. I expected that as a courtesy they might at least give me a tow to the dealership given their epic fail. or perhaps refer me to a AAA approved tow company to tow company that could get me where I needed to go quickly. All they did was transfer me to the National AAA line, where I went through the normal routine of being disconnected three times, having to give someone my membership number three times, give different people my phone number multiple times, get text updates saying the driver is arriving, only to get another update later saying they’re going to be delayed. Here I am sitting on the highway again, getting screwed over by a corporate chain that’s gotten too big to use common sense or decency. Don’t give these guys or AAA your business.
