Fantastic experience: MRO does a fantastic job with this trip. Just an excellent outfitter. Our guides, Kelly and Sarah, were very knowledgeable and professional. MRO provides quality equipment like the canoes and tents. I recommend the 4-day White Cliffs trip as it offers a more leisurely pace and more time for hiking and other exploration. For Lewis and Clark buffs, this trip is a must do. Fort Benton is a neat little town, one the real gems along the L and C Trail. A great outdoor recreation experience that should not be missed.

Fantastic experience: What a professional, thoughtful, and well run organization! I am by no means a “water person”, but at the orientation, Nicole and the guides made me feel very safe and that all will be well - and indeed it was! The food was fabulous and healthy, the guides are well-versed in navigating the river and a lot of fun. I especially appreciated the touch of being read to from Louis and Clark’s journals and other historic documents that were pertinent to the journey. And the guides were very conscientious of adhering to the “leave no trace” policy. It couldn’t have been more lovely or more fun. An extremely personable and well run business. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: My husband went on the 3 day White Cliffs canoe trip late August, 2024. It is one of the best things we have ever done. We live in Montana about 3 hours from Fort Benton and could not believe that we had never taken advantage of such an amazing trip. The guides, food, equipment, cliffs, river were outstanding. It was so nice being away from the internet for 3 days. Everyone on our trip was so great and it was fun meeting people from all over the country. I haven't stopped talking about it. I want everyone I know to have the same experience we did

Fantastic experience: Nicolle and her team of guides were absolutely wonderful and made the trip a fantastic experience. Communication was great, from pre-trip instructions to daily itineraries, to on-the-water advice. Guides (we had Heather, Isaac, and Sarah) were engaging, knowledgeable, cheerful, and extremely hard-working, allowing us to really lay back and enjoy ourselves. Meals were marvelous. Really a top-notch operation and highly recommended. Thumbs up!

Fantastic experience: We had a great time paddling the Missouri River. The scenery was lovely. We enjoyed it so much that we went back a few days later on a different section of the river. Jenice and Nicole run a great shop and have everything you need for an enjoyable trip.

Fantastic experience: Enjoyed a fabulous time on the 3 day White Cliffs tour. Everything was well organized and Sarah, Jay, and Brock were amazing guides, informative and fun! The food was delicious (my first time eating walleye!). I probably could have eaten the entire carrot cake we had on night 2 as it was sooo good and that is coming from someone who generally dislikes it. I would absolutely book a trip with them again and am already thinking about coming back and doing the lower portion next year. Thank you Nicolle and crew!

Fantastic experience: I took my second 4-day canoe trip on the Missouri with MRO recently, and it won't be my last. The outfitters and guides think of EVERYTHING to make it a fun, enjoyable, entertaining, and educational trip. I highly recommend the 4-day "White Cliffs" trip. Amazing rock formations and so much history which was reiterated to us by Keith, who is an expert in Montana history and the Lewis & Clark Expedition. His story telling really enriched our experience and he and Lenette are so much fun, as were our other two guides, Nick and Sarah "21". They're all also so thoughtful and kind, ensuring that all 11 in our group were given individual attention. THANK YOU!

Fantastic experience: We did the four day; three night trip on the Missouri and it was great. The food was the best; and the guides were outstanding. I have done numerous trips in the west and the guides were the best. Heather, the lead guide was the best I have ever experienced. We have done the Grand Canyon raft trip and those guides should take lessons from Heather. Thanks for a great memory.

Fantastic experience: This canoe trip through the MT Badlands of the Missouri River was spectacular, sans the heat and bug bites! :) Isaac, Jonna, and Jay were always upbeat, soooo helpful, and worked tirelessly to ensure that we all had an amazing experience. Whether it was providing paddling instruction, insuring our safety, telling stories or jokes, setting up/tearing down camp in rough terrain, cooking marvelous meals, or tending to individual needs, the 3 guides exceeded expectations. Being an inexperienced paddler/camper, this was a wonderful experience. A warning about the inevitability of numerous insect bites may have been helpful - no amount of bug spray seemed to help! But I am definitely looking forward to booking another trip with MRO - bravo!

Fantastic experience: We took a lovely three generation trip down the scenic Missouri River into the White Cliffs. The weather was what it was: cold, windy, and wet at times. But we lived the outdoor experience and loved every second of it. MRO planned well and we were well prepared thanks to their informative services. The trip down the river was first-class, and the guides were amazing, they had our comfort as their number one priority, and they fed us well. They were very knowledgeable about the history of the area and shared that with us, often while canoeing in a flotilla style. Fort Benton, where MRO is based, is a charming small town which we enjoyed. -Charles Biltz

Fantastic experience: Excellent outfitter with high quality gear and great knowledge of the river. They offer a shuttle service to the different river access points, all the way down to James Kipp Recreation Area as well as to GTF airport and hotels in Great Falls. Examples of why I'd definitely use them again: 1. Nicolle, the owner, answered all of my questions in a timely from when I started inquiring about the trip until after the trip was over. 2. Kitchen boxes had everything you could possibly need. 3. All gear was in great condition and seemed relatively new. 4. Shuttles were always on time and the drivers had great knowledge about the area, including some river tips and places to eat while in town. 5. They'll hold onto your luggage while you're on the river. 6. Prices are quite reasonable.

Fantastic experience: We (8 friends) joined a public trip, loved every minute! Great guides, FABULOUS food, scenery can't be beat, hikes were terrific, the night skies cooperated. MRO gives detailed info prior. They are wonderful to work with (we had to push back a year due to injuries and they worked with us in rescheduling and while on the trip) I would do it again in a heartbeat. Fantastic experience: This is THE outfitter to use if you want to explore the Upper Missouri River Breaks! We, completely novice paddlers, went on the 7 day guided trip through the White Cliffs and Badlands sections and had an incredible time, unplugging and finding a rhythm with the river. Great campsites, wonderful history, awe inspiring landscape, and the food is outrageously good, above and beyond what you can imagine! I'm sure all of their guides are great, but shoutout to siblings Heather and Isaac who ROCK as guides and are just amazing people. Owner Nicolle was very responsive and helpful throughout the process of booking and preparing for the trip. While it would be fun to do this with family and/or friends, it was a delight to get to know the other couples on the trip and make new friends, thanks to our "plundering" partners for such a fun trip!

Fantastic experience: We were so pleased with MRO’s services when we rented canoes from them and had them shuttle our cars. We paddled the Coal Banks to Kipp Rec area sections over 7 days. MRO had an easy check in, responded quickly to emails and gave us campsite tips. I’d highly recommend them!

Fantastic experience: Great guides for a conoe trip down the upper Missouri River Breaks. September was a great time to go. Felt like we were the only ones on the river. Guides were all very knowledgeable in history. They also did all the work, even setting up our tents. The food was spectacular, and they kept us filled with all the seltzer, beer, or wine that we fancied. It was very relaxing and fun paddling down the Missouri.

Fantastic experience: I love rivers and this was another to add to my list. The Missouri has so much history attached to it, and our guides read us excerpts along the way, depending on what might have happened--enjoyed that!! Never felt any danger, even when the wind blew pretty hard--the canoes were solid and our guides were the absolute best (ask for Heather and Isaac!)

The staff is amazing, the food is brilliantly prepared on site, the tents and canoes were top quality and the sights, incredible! While the float was excellent, the hikes were wonderful surprises. The views were amazing and the guides made sure we weren’t in over our heads. The equipment was fine and the food was top notch. Fantastic experience: i have known Nicolle when she first srart guide and then when she had bought MRO having float the river for over 25 year seeing her and her company take care and treat there customer like family she goes out and her crew got out of their way to explain and tailer a trip to make work for you she has a love for the river and the groth of it and has take and made her business the best having watch her work with customer is second to none if going to do a trip or need any thing for advice equipment or sport for a trip your could find any one better she and her company is a 12 on a scale of 10

Fantastic experience: I had heard that this was a great trip so I had pretty high expectations. Well the trip met and exceeded my expectations. I was trying to think of my favorite part of the trip. It could have been the paddling on the water, could have been the hikes, could easily of been how friendly and knowledgeable the guides were. Maybe it was the food. I honestly can't decide. There wasn't one part of the trip that I wish had been different.

Our guides Heather and Isaac (siblings) were so fun and worked hard to take care of us! The four kids in our group (all girls ages 5-10) loved every second. The food was 5+ stars, truly every meal was a delight. Our group favorite was the walleye night. I would recommend MRO to anyone looking for a unique Lewis and Clark river experience.

Fantastic experience: Where do I start? Everything about MRO is top shelf. They are one of the most organized companies I have ever dealt with and very service orientated to their clients. My wife and I embarked on 4 day 3 night White Cliffs canoe trip and were led by Kelly, Seth, Audrey, and Ally. What a great group of river guides! All were hard working and highly motivated. The canoes were 18' long and very stable. The two person tents were clean and spacious. The guides set up camp every day including placing the cots in the tents, cooked all meals and finished kitchen clean up. High kudos to the kitchen manager for prepping all the food that the guides prepared. Three well prepared meals a day presented in a wonderful manner. This guide trip is close to being "Glamping". My wife and I are older and retired and were always respected and well taken care of; we will definitely return again to Fort Benton and MRO!

Fantastic experience: Our group learned about the MO River Outfitters in a footnote in Stephen Ambrose's "Undaunted Courage," and curious about the beauty of the White Cliffs/Upper MO, we signed on. The trip exceeded my expectations ~ knowledgable, "undaunted," attentive guides, top notch equipment (beautiful, sleek, responsive canoes), thoughtful menu planning, which included a plethora of fresh fruits and vegetables and home baked cakes, breath-taking settings and a real glimpse of the grit and fortitude needed to settle the American West. Ours was a 7 day paddle, and every day offered some unique experience re flora and fauna, enhanced by a "library" and readings out loud by our wonderful, ever present guides. Read the book (Ambrose), find the footnote, Go!

Fantastic experience: MRO is a really together organization. Our dealings setting up this 7-day trip were so personal and helpful that I thought it was a small organization! It's not, they're just really good! The guides were knowledgeable, safe, hard-working, and easy to get along with. The canoeing and hikes were full of ever-changing and amazing scenery with knowledgeable commentary. The Food! It was plentiful and varied and delicious. Clearly organized by people who appreciate the importance of food when you're on the river :) This trip was very worth it. We're already planning another one next year.

Fantastic experience: Our family of 10 + 1 friend, ranging from 8 to 70 yrs old, with most having very little or no camping experience had the most amazing 4 day trip.The guides took care of everything and worked extremely well together and made fast friends with all of us. They worked to get to know us and our abilities to create the best experience possible. Even our shuttle drivers were engaging and fun to talk with! The scenery and campsites far exceeded my expectations as did the food! Seriously, the food was amazing! We had choices of outfitters, and not one of our 11 people have any regrets. How often can you get 11 family/friends to all agree? Seriously, stop reading reviews and just book MRO!

Fantastic experience: Just finished the 4 day trip from Judith Landing to Kipps campground with Heather and Randy. We had two 8 year old grandkids in tow. Heather was so good with them. The stories were wonderful. The food was great. The scenery was amazing... and... NO TORNADOS! (teehee) This was our 3rd trip with MRO and they are consistent in delivering life memories. Fantastic experience: This is a wonderful trip, highly recommended. An easy paddle through scenic wilderness almost unchanged since Lewis & Clark. The guides do all the hard work, your tent is ready for you when you reach camp for the night. Great camp food with plenty of cold beverages to keep you hydrated. A bargain !

The evening readings of Undaunted Courage and other historical texts lent anticipation to each evening and new day. The environment is wild and summons attention on the river and the hikes. Fantastic experience: A friend recommended Missouri River Outfitters to us. My husband and I did the 4 day White Cliffs Tour. It was outstanding. Our weather was perfect in late August. Our guides were so lovely. They worked hard to keep us all comfortable. We are vegetarians and our preferences were met with such ease. The food was delicious, fresh, healthy and plentiful! Tents were cute. Canoes were great. You carry all the gear, so you feel just like Lewis and Clark! The scenery was sublime and untouched. I felt I was back in time. No technology was a big plus for me--just time to think and drink it all in. The Missouri river is a bit muddy, so don't plan on getting cleaner in the river--bring wipes to keep a little clean and enjoy getting dirty! We did lots of hiking with the group and by ourselves. Our group was great--we were all friends by the end of our tour. Thanks Missouri River Outfitters for the trip of a lifetime!

Fantastic experience: These people are fantastic. We took the 3 day Missouri White Cliffs canoeing and camping trip with Jay. The river was unbelievably beautiful. The paddling was more work than I expected (I’m 55 and have no upper body strength) but also so rewarding. Food was delicious. Tents were great. The hikes were amazing. Jay was so full of information and stories. We had the whole river to ourselves, too. Such a wonderful escape.

Fantastic experience: Terrific trip and exceptional guides! Great food, wonderful folks. The first day out the wind was howling and the rain driving. The 2nd day out was the same - nonetheless, our guides were cheerful, got our tents set up quickly and made the best of the hard situation. It was very professionally done and great fun. Fantastic experience: If you’re interested in an active, “adventure” vacation, I can recommend canoeing the Missouri Breaks in northern Montana. It was not too much hard work and the reward was beautiful scenery and an overall great time. My wife and I did a guided tour through Missouri River Outfitters, which meant that someone did the planning and the cooking for us and set up and broke down our tents each day. Our Missouri River Outfitter guides did a fantastic job of keeping us safe, comfortable, well fed and well informed. Their equipment was clean and in excellent condition. We had good weather and good company, which is of course never guaranteed on a vacation. It was a good value. Bonus if you’re into US history — we camped in many of the spots that Lewis and Clark and the Corps or Discovery camped and we paddled past the spot where Chief Joseph gave his tragic ”fight no more forever” speech. The worst part of the trip? Going home.

Fantastic experience: If you are looking for an amazing adventure with an awesome team on the river, look no further! This past week we did a 3 day experience with lead guide Heather, Ace and Baby Swan Sarah. There were full of stories, history and ecology lessons. It was the best vacation I've had in a long time. These ladies are amazing, inspiring and fun to be around (plus they cooked for us and spoiled us!) They truly are river rock stars. I can't wait to tell others and bring back family.

Fantastic experience: Unbelievably beautiful scenery. Guides who are hard working yet laid back; professional yet chums. The guides treated every one of us as though each was special and important. Fantastic experience: Travelled with MRO on a 4 Day White Cliffs trip. Absolutely amazing and one of the best trips I’ve ever taken. The location is unreal, of course, but the MRO team goes above and beyond to help you enjoy and they are all great people. I’ll absolutely come back and I talk about this trip at least once a week with friends and family to convince them to go as well. Awesome!

Fantastic experience: Excellent guided tours of the Upper Missouri River breaks. Comfortable cots to sleep on at night, yummy fresh food to eat prepared on the spot and fun, friendly guides that really bend over backwards to make sure everyone has a good time!

Fantastic experience: I took the 4 day White Cliffs trip in late August 2021. Beautiful, ever changing scenery all day long. Kingfishers and osprey diving, eagles, screech owls calling early and late, muskrat, beaver, deer, a charming white cow with black ears and nose and, yes, ordinary cows too. My tent was spacious, food fantastic, service professional all the time. Guides Nicolle and Nate made everything wonderful so I give them credit also for perfect weather and the smart, fun guests when were my companions. Chris--suburban Chicago, Illinois.
