The Wild Source: Reviews
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source, based in Golden, Colorado, assisted us in putting together and then activating a near two week African safari experience in the countries of Botswana and Zimbabwe. Annie and Katt were so helpful and patient as we put the plan together and then into action. The entire trip spanning four safari camps, five in-Africa bush flights and first time arrival at Johannesburg airport went like clockwork. At every landing site we were immediately greeted by amazingly friendly guides and driven to our destination. Likewise, as we departed one camp for another, the planes arrived right on time and got us on board in short order. The Imvelo and Kwando concession tented camps were amazing. The opportunity to visit a local school, walk with the children, visit the white rhino conservancy, and have time to include Victoria Falls was outstanding. We highly, highly recommend The Wild Source for those looking for a safe, cared for, exciting, and well orchestrated safari experience. The team at The Wild Source are top notch.
Fantastic experience: #thewildsource What a wonderful trip we had at Splash Camp and at Elephant Camp. The people, the landscapes, the animals and the birds were amazing and life changing. The professionalism of our Safari booking company was top notch and personable @thewildsource the food and the comfort of the rooms was great. We met numerous people that we shared this experience with from fellow travelers to guides and spotters to the people working the camps and I am so grateful for all our interactions, knowledge gained and fun we were exposed to. My wife’s bucket list was accomplished but she says she is refilling the bucket so we can go back soon!
Fantastic experience: My partner and I just got back from a trip to Kenya in early February and all I have to say is it was truly amazing! We saw so much of what the Mara had to offer through multiple different camps, all with exceptional service. Between enjoying the views, eating amazing food, talking with our guides, and of course seeing every animal we could've dreamed of it made the whole experience all the more worth it! The Wild Source made it super easy to include our wants and interests into our itinerary, and helped us to decide where the prefect areas of the Mara were to stay to see exactly what we wanted and experience what we wanted to experience. It was a trip of a lifetime...and we might even have to do it again in the near future to explore a different part of Africa!
Fantastic experience: This January/Feb 2025, my husband, daughter and I traveled to Botswana (Okavango Delta) and Rwanda (Volcanos National Park area) with The Wild Source. We travel often, and this was truly one of the most exciting and seamless trips we have taken abroad. At all transport/transfer points, friendly guides were there to greet us and get us where we needed to go. We stayed in three camps in the Okavango Delta - Okavango Origins, Kwara, and Mekete. Each camp was unique and offered dramatically different and diverse looks at the Delta! Okavango Origins was the true safari experience!! We stayed in clean, spacious, well equipped tents that included queen bed, storage for luggage, and bathroom with working sink, toilet and shower. We loved this camp because it was remote and full of wildlife. The staff at this camp is amazing. All have grown up in the area and are proud of their lands and extremely knowledgeable about the entire ecosystem! They also give back to their local villages and provide employment. Our guide (Diesel) and tracker (Chocolate) were truly experts, who made it their mission to give us exciting safaris and plenty of time with each animal sighting for photography and observation. Meals in the evening included guests and staff and there was always lively and interesting conversation. Kwara camp had the most luxurious accommodations. Each guest has a bungalow with a living room, bedroom, large bathroom with tub and shower, great storage, and full deck with outside shower….all overlooking a beautiful lake with hippos, baboons, vervet monkeys, and other wildlife within view. Breakfast is outside by the fire every morning, and lunch and dinner are outdoors under beautiful awnings. Public space includes an outdoor covered lounge and library. Meals here also included staff and again, lots of lively, interesting discussions. It was at Kwara that we got a good look at lions and also an evening boat ride through the Delta that was outstanding!! We also tried the Mokoro (traditional canoes) there. Camp Mekete is only accessible by helicopter, so that was another adventure. The accommodations there are a hybrid of the other two camps…more tent like, but inside, more like a bungalow. Very comfortable. This camp is in the bottom of the Delta and very flat so the landscape is quite different. Use of helicopters allowed us to add some extra tours…a favorite was a visit to Elephant Havens, an elephant orphanage and rescue! That was outstanding! Mekete also had a massage therapist available and after many days in jeeps, that was a wonderful surprise! Then it was on to Rwanda where our guide (Amon) gave us a brief tour of Kigali, and then we headed up to the Volcano National Park area to do gorilla trekking and golden monkey trekking! Unlike the safari camps of Botswana, here we stayed at Bishop House…a large home converted into a lovely hotel. It was perfect, and restful. The trekking experiences are coordinated through the National Park, and are organized, adventurous and amazing. Again, The Wild Source proved its efficiency- we still had our driver/guide, Amon, to get us everywhere we needed to be, we had our permits, and it was smooth going! And of course the gorillas and monkeys did not disappoint!!!! I FULLY recommend The Wild Source and look forward to traveling with them again!!!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic trip of a lifetime to Tanzania, as organized by Wild Source
Fantastic experience: My family went to Tanzania and Zanzibar with The Wild Source in January. It was an amazing trip and extremely well organized before the trip and well managed during the trip. We worked with the Wild Source to map out the type of safari we wanted and our ideal lodging experience. They met our needs and when we got to Africa we were taken care of every step of the way and they fully met our accommodation and dietary requests. Our Wild Source guide, Moinga, was an expert in his field and educated us on every animal we saw. There was nothing he didn't know and we all learned every day. Plus Moinga's expertise allowed him to get us close to the animals and we were fortunate to watch 2 cheetahs hunt and kill an antelope because Moinga watched the mother cheetah's behavior and knew what was going to happen. Moinga also spotted a pregnant wildebeest and we stayed with her for at least an hour and saw the baby being born. We wouldn't have had either of those moments if it wasn't for Moinga. You can't put a price on that knowledge or experience. The whole trip was extremely memorable and our family will relish it for years!
Fantastic experience: I had an incredible time touring the Serengeti National Park and the Mara Naboisho Conservancy with The Wild Source! The Wild Source's investment in wildlife biologist-planned and lead safaris created a unique opportunity to learn so much about the animals and their behavior. Sosy Maira and David Maira guided us through the Serengeti National Park for a bit over a week. Their unique backgrounds as biologists proved invaluable as we battered them with hundreds if not thousands of questions about the animals and their behavior. It was hard not to admire David and Sosy’s belief in The Wild Source’s mission to educate visitors on safari tours and invest in conservation of the parks. Perhaps most importantly, David and Sosy are wonderful people that became close friends as we made unforgettable memories on the Safari. I will never forget the lion cubs and their mom’s charging the pride’s new male lions, the playful elephants, witnessing multiple Great Migration crossings, and all the safari puns we made up along our trip. Peter Kiyaa guided us through the Mara Naboisho Conservancy for just under a week. Peter is an extremely qualified guide that has shaped conservation efforts across the world. It was very interesting to learn about his past work. The Mara Naboisho Conservancy offered the unique opportunity to get to know the Maasai, a semi-nomadic group of people who live in Kenya and Tanzania. I highly encourage anyone visiting this conservancy to take the opportunity to meet the local Maasai people and learn about their culture and history. During our Safari, we stayed at Nyumbani Camp, Njozi Camp, and the Eagle View Camp. While the food, location, and experiences at all of these camps were incredible, I really enjoyed our stay at the Njozi Camp as it was run by employees of The Wild Source. The opportunity to meet the rest of The Wild Source team and learn more about their conservation efforts and their stories was very special. Oh, and make sure to have Yusuf Magoye and David Maira play you a few songs around the campfire, they’re great musicians! I cannot thank the Wild Source employees enough for the absolutely unforgettable experience and I highly encourage anyone planning a Safari to consider The Wild Source.
Fantastic experience: This was my second time on safari with The Wild Source and again, it was exceptional! On the first trip our family of four visited Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Rwanda. This time, The Wild Source staff arranged a custom safari for our group of 9 people with varying travel experiences. We visited Botswana, Tanzania and Kenya, coming and going at different times and all of our arrangements were seamless. Nothing beats their wildlife biologist lead trips-lead by locals with camps run by locals. The guides teach you all about tracking techniques, wildlife behavior, their conservation efforts and their research programs. This organization is professional and fun from the moment your send your first email inquiry until you hug your last guide goodbye. I would highly recommend The Wild Source and plan to return for a third trip someday!
Fantastic experience: I have nothing but great things to say about The Wild Source. First, during the planning stages, Emily was AMAZING. She answered my endless questions patiently and with excellent details, allowing me to make the most informed decisions re. the exact trip we wanted to create. Responses were always very fast. After booking, when I had questions, Alexandra was equally as attentive and patient. It was the best customer service experience I can recall having - ever. For the trip, it was A++++. First, there were no surprises - other than things being even BETTER than expected. They really listen to your goals for your trip and put you in a position to achieve the sightings you want. We LOVED every minute of this vacation and will absolutely be doing another private reserve safari in Botswana again, and I see no reason to use any other company to book it. Seriously - just a perfect experience from start to finish.
Fantastic experience: We had the incredible opportunity to plan our dream trip to Africa with The Wild Source, and I couldn't be more excited to share our journey! After a fantastic conversation with Emily, our knowledgeable and passionate travel planner, it became clear that Kenya was the ideal destination for our first safari adventure. Emily took the time to understand what my significant other, our two friends, and I were looking for. Initially, we felt overwhelmed about our options, from where to go in Kenya to budget considerations and the type of experience we wanted. Thanks to Emily's expertise and insights, we focused on creating an authentic experience with exceptional guides and comfortable accommodations. As it is not easy planning a trip of this caliber for yourself, never mind friends, we wanted to ensure we got it right; with numerous questions and changes coming from us, Emily's patience was a constant reassurance as we pulled together our itinerary. Her efficiency in managing the costs and understanding our desire for quality without wasteful spending was a relief. Once our itinerary was in place, we had a few minor details to iron out, but we were confident in our plans. Even when Emily went on maternity leave, she assured us that Brooke and the team would support us. Brooke seamlessly stepped in and finalized the last of our plans. The pre-planning trip package from TWS was a godsend, providing us with all the necessary information and emergency contacts for the US and Kenya. We can't thank The Wild Source enough for creating such an unforgettable first trip to Africa! It was a truly enchanting experience for all of us. Each of the five accommodations we stayed in, from the cozy lodges with stunning views to the luxurious tented camp nestled in the heart of the savannah, had its unique charm, adding an extra layer of excitement and wonder to our adventure.
Fantastic experience: From our first email inquiry, Molly, Annie and the Wild Source team were quick to communicate, professional and extremely helpful and put together an amazing safari itinerary in Tanzania. Our trip and safari went seamlessly and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We were guided by Henry Akeyo, who was a wealth of knowledge and always strived to find every animal-and we did! We started in Tarangire National Park and saw multiple herds of elephant, four leopards, lions, baboons, monkey, giraffe, zebra and more. We went on a walking safari with a park ranger and learned as we walked. We stayed at Lolkisale tented camp which had all the comforts of home plus amazing meals one of which was in the bush. In addition, the whole staff came out after dinner and sang and danced and gave me a birthday cake with sparkler-such a kind wonderful gesture. The staff went above and beyond to meet our every need. Next, we went to Ngorongoro Crater and stayed at Lemala Ngorongoro tented camp on the craters rim-we went on a fabulous walking safari with Alois, a Masai ranger and learned so much about Masai culture as well as the area. Again, the staff at this camp were amazing and very accommodating. The food was also top notch. On the way to the Serengeti, we stopped at a Masai village, which was so interesting and a must see. In the Serengeti, we stayed at Nyumbani tented camp which again, had all the comforts of home and had another fabulous staff-especially Bazily who took time to talk with us on many occasions and Esther who gave us a massage in our tent. The food at this camp was also delicious. While staying at this camp during one of our game drives, we saw 39 lions over a 3 hour period as well as a serval and kitten and a cheetah plus other animals. Our last camp was Njozi camp in the northern Serengeti to see the migration across the Mara river. Again, this tented camp was comfortable and had another awesome staff-Raymos and Yusuf accompanied us on a few game drives and they were a wealth of information-not just in their study of big cats but also the unique history, geology and geography of the area. This camp is unique in that you get to go on game drives with wildlife biologists and interns. Overall, we would not hesitate recommending The Wild Source-flawless from start to finish. Our guide, Henry, made our trip experience something we will never forget.
Fantastic experience: Best way to book a safari/Africa getaway! The Wild Source staff made it easy and affordable to have a once in a lifetime experience. Our vacation was extremely enjoyable and the trip went off without a hitch.
Fantastic experience: We just returned from a two week safari in Tanzania and gorila trekking in Rwanda with The Wild Source. This was the trip of a lifetime. We loved every minute of this voyage and are sure this was in large due to the effort, experience and professionalism of the folks at The Wild Source. We cannot say enough about our experience. From planning the trip with Kelly to our guide and camps, nothing was short of extraordinary. To plan the trip in a way that would be tailored to our interests and preferences, Kelly listened carefully to what we were looking for and what made us tick. She then came back with a suggested itinerary and kept working and tweaking it until she was convinced that we were 100% happy. Moinga, our guide, was the kindest, most caring, knowledgeable and funnest guide we could imagine. His knowledge of the terrain, plants and of course wildlife was incredible. Like so many who go on safari we enjoy photography. Moinga loves photography himself and guides many professional photographers. Time after time he not only found unbelievable animal sightings but even positioned the vehicle best for a great shot. His personal story, as a Masai, which he was happy to share, was fascinating and added so much to the experience. Kelly made sure that the accommodations were exactly what we were looking for. The local crew in each one of the tented camps and lodges was upbeat, warm and welcoming and the accommodations were beautiful and pampering. We are seasoned travelers but this was our first trip to Africa. We are hooked. We are already discussing our next Africa adventure. It will be with The Wild Source!
Fantastic experience: Glad we choose the Wild Source for our second Safari. Kelly did an excellent job with our two camp wildlife focused Botswana itinerary. Seamless transfers and no hassles. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source coordinated an unforgettable experience for our family. Every aspect was top shelf and exceeded our expectations. Our journey to multiple camps throughout Tanzania was so special. By far the best part of our tour was the guides. Fadhil, Henry, Sosy and George are exceptionally knowledgable, highly educated, speak perfect English, and have great hospitality skills. These guides are unique because they are biologists first, and their commitment to their craft is obvious in the way they understand animal behavior. This was the trip of a lifetime.
Fantastic experience: Emily offered some great suggestions for our Safari and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. The itinerary and execution were seamless. We had booked Tanzania in 2019 w Emily @TWS and she helped plan this itinerary 2024 to Botswana. Both trips were wonderful. She delivers as promised. She’s mindful of our budget and tries to get the most for our dollar. I had booked a Kruger safari in 2016 through a different agency and the difference in experience was overwhelming. I’m already dreaming up our next safari and I will certainly consult the safari experts at TWS to help me.
Fantastic experience: We had a great trip to three camps in early March. TWS arranged a terrific itinerary for us for our first safari trip to South Africa. Emily and Brooke handled a lot for us and were always responsive. High marks for them and for each of the camps, all top notch.
Fantastic experience: My wife and I (along with two friends) worked with The Wild Source, in Colorado in 2023 / 2024 for the planning and arrangements for our safari experiences in Tanzania and Botswana in February and March 2024. This company is very knowledgeable, experienced, and helped up to have the most amazing safari and wildlife experiences in Africa. We wanted to focus primarily on the wildlife and what we experienced was beyond our expectations. Amazing. We worked with Annie, who carefully explained our options and created the itinerary (very helpful with so many details). The company in Colorado collaborates with several outstanding and experienced operators in Africa, including the Njozi camp (Tanzania/Serengeti) and Kwando Safaris (Botswana). The locations, facilities (luxury-tented camps) and staff in these camps were fantastic. In addition, the wildlife guides are a critical part of the experience, and we were so fortunate to have Fadhil in Tanzania, and Mr. T, Mayezi and Patrick in Botswana, all of whom are very experienced. This makes a real difference. So many genuine and caring experiences. Overall, very impressed with this operation. Would highly recommend working with them if considering a safari experience. I cannot wait to go again. David K – Colorado.
Fantastic experience: From planning to fruition of the safari everything was spectacular. Our guide, Sosy, really knows the behavior of animals in order to observe them. The private guide for the entire safari was an absolute bonus. The camps were very comfortable.
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source took care of our every need for our African Safari to Rwanda and Kenya. We were fully supported during the pre-trip process, having all our questions answered, and coordinating additions or changes to our itenerary was easy. On our Safari, everything was taken care of, we were picked up on time, transported easily to all destinations and the different camping locations all coordinated with each other as to our arrival and departures so everything went smoothly. All of my food allergies were accomodated with ease and all meals were wonderfully yummy! Most importantly, our Safari guides were ALL extremely skilled and we saw more animals than I thought possible. This was the trip of a lifetime, and we will never get over it. I highly recommend TWS.
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source were fantastic to work with on our recent trip to Tanzania. Annie gave us great recommendations and guidance, and they sent a very clear and easy to follow itinerary that we all downloaded ahead of the trip which allowed everyone to know what we were doing and when. Annie booked us at Njozi Camp with David, an incredible biologist and guide. She also helped us find the perfect places to stay that were a bit different than traditional Wild Source camps (Asilia lodges) and facilitated all the coordination and travel so things were truly seamless. We'd love to travel with them again!
Fantastic experience: Had an amazing trip experience with The Wild Source. Every single aspect of my trip, from the moment I contacted them to discuss potential itineraries and timelines to going on the actual trip itself, was just so well organized and thoughtful. The lodges and camps where I stayed were awesome with super considerate staff. My safari guide George was the best. He clearly had deep knowledge about the land and the wildlife, and we got to witness some amazing things like cheetah hunts and wildebeest births thanks to him. Will definitely be going with The Wild Source again for any future safari trips.
Fantastic experience: Wild source helped us plan our 4day/3night trip to the Masai Mara. The office was very patient with all of my questions and extremely helpful with every aspect of our trip. They found us a great place to stay (Eagle View) within our moderate budget. Accommodations far exceeded our expectations as did our guide. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source team is amazing, very responsive and accommodating. They are on top of every single details and will work with you to ensure you get exactly what its best for you. It was a pleasure planning our Safari trip to Botswana with them and we highly recommend it to anybody who is looking for a reputable organization that supports responsible tourism practices.
Fantastic experience: Had two wonderful safaris, one private and one small-group, to Zambia and the Pantanal respectively.
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source (and specifically Annie) was incredible - they thought of every detail, so we didn't have to worry about any logistics on our honeymoon to South Africa. They created an incredible honeymoon itinerary for us, with three distinct phases in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, and Timbavati. It felt like we had taken three different vacations! We can not recommend The Wild Source enough, especially if you want a trip that exceeds all your expectations.
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source created a phenomenal safari adventure for me in Kenya! It was everything I had hoped for and more. Everything was so well planned and organized. I loved the locations, the camp accommodations, and especially the people that made it all possible. My guides were terrific and they felt like friends by the end. The camp staff made everything comfortable and the food was terrific. I saw so many animal species and learned so much. It was important to me that any safari experience be centered in conservation and community empowerment. The Wild Source’s mission is to do just that - use “travel as a conservation tool to empower local people and conserve wildlife and wild places.” I highly recommend them for all your African safari travel!
Fantastic experience: Annie planned a fabulous trip for us last month. We had an amazing time! Highly recommend using The Wild Source to plan your safari.
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source is an outstanding African Safari provider. My friend and I just returned from a 11 day Safari in Kenya and Tanzania planned by The Wild Source. Every detail of the transfers, bush flights, activities and camps was spot on. The camps were just as described and very comfortable. All the camp staff and guides were skilled and informative. You won't meet friendlier people than those in Africa. The Lions Paw Camp on our last day was a beautiful way to end the safari. It sits on the wall of the Ngorongoro Crater surrounded by flat top Acacia trees and was more like staying in a luxury hotel. Don't miss this spot when going to the crater. I highly recommend using The Wild Source for your next safari.
Fantastic experience: My two daughters and I just completed our first trip to Africa, and our first (and hopefully not our last) safari. I am 79 and wasn’t certain how I would handle the travel. Wild Source provided us with excellent information, helped us out when travel didn’t go quite as planned, and are an ethical, professional company. The safari far exceeded our expectations. We saw everything we wanted to see. Our guide, Fadhil, was patient, very informative, kind, with a sense of humor. He was able to find lions, cheetahs, and leopards as well as two black rhinos in addition to all the antelopes, baboons, ostriches, wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, and so much more. The days were long but sooooo worth it. I came home very inspired, so much more connected with nature, and I miss Tanzania!!! The staff at each camp went above and beyond to make us comfortable. The food was great with very early morning coffee service in our tent before we took off for the day. I will only travel with Wild Source should I return for another safari.
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source was an excellent choice for us. They were referred by friends, and after further research, we are so glad we worked with them on this trip. Highly recommend The Wild Source - they are committed to conservation and have a mission that stands out. Going to Tanzania was such a joy, so much to take in! I'd go back again! Everyone at The Wild source made sure our trip was memorable. All of the camps where we stayed were comfortable and the teams were so welcoming. The guide that lead us, Fadhil, was outstanding! He clearly wanted us to have an excellent experience and to see as much as we could over the 10 day period. I can't say enough about his generosity, knowledge, sight for what I couldn't begin to see, and all with a sense of humor! It feels like family after spending 10 days in a jeep covering so much ground and seeing so many animals, birds, and flora and the interactions. We were also fortunate to have Yusuf with us for 2 days as a biologist/cat researcher. What a treat! Asante! Annie helped us with the planning process. She was knowledgable, responsive, and answered all of our questions. She provided additional resources when we asked so that we could make the best decision. She helped us understand differences in cost and we were able to stay within a budget that we planned on. The Ops team provided materials and follow-up and when our flights were diverted by airline, they helped reschedule things on the receiving end so we could get into our first hotel right away. The materials provided were thorough and even then we had questions which they answered. Thank you to The Wild Source. If you are reading this and can go - do it!
Fantastic experience: Terrific experience traveling with Wild Source. We loved our guide Sosy's deep knowledge and passion for the wildlife. We are glad we opted for a private tour, too. We are already planning our next safari.
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source has planned 2 trips for me to both Botswana and Zambia (2022) and to Zambia (2023). I have nothing but accolades for the company. When COVID interfered with the first scheduled trip, they twice arranged all the rescheduling for me. All the people I dealt with seem enthusiastic and engaged in what they are doing, They were extremely helpful, attentive to my requests and interests, and arranged wonderful itineraries. The trips themselves were seamlessly organized. I definitely plan to travel with them again.
Fantastic experience: The best of the best. Been with them on 2 African Safari’s and nothing but 1st class from the time you leave your house until you return home. Never failed to help or answer any question I had. Go with the best.
Fantastic experience: Awesome
Fantastic experience: We had a terrific time in Tanzania and Uganda! Every aspect of this trip was very memorable, and I see why people call it the trip of a lifetime. The experience of seeing the wide open plains of the Serengeti, blanketed with the great migration from horizon to horizon, was unforgettable. We never expected to see such a variety of landscape and wildlife, and for it to feel so intimate. The people we met were genuinely friendly and hospitable, and our guide Henry Akeyo was very kind, patient, and so very knowledgeable. Emily at The Wild Source did a great job coordinating our itinerary, listening to our interests, and helping us to hit our budget. She was so very responsive throughout the planning process, and her recommendations were spot on. In particular we are very glad that we listened to her and did Tarangire at the beginning of the trip. Brooke was also very helpful in supporting our trip preparation and it was good to know that we had broad support from Brooke, Emily, and the other Wild Source and Classic Africa contacts in case anything would have cropped up during our travels. Great job to you guys - I have already recommended Wild Source to several friends. The camps, particularly at Njozi, really made us feel as if we were part of the family. We felt that we made genuine friends with some of the staff, particularly Yusuf, Winnie, and Joseph. My wife was really deeply touched by the final night sendoff at Njozi. We would highly recommend travel in mid March - at this shoulder season there weren't many other guests, and we often felt as if we had the whole place to ourselves. The one or two afternoon rain showers were a beautiful sight in itself.
Fantastic experience: We worked with Wild Source to plan our honeymoon safari adventure which included a week long Serengeti safari and several days to relax at the beach in Zanzibar. Annie planned an awesome itinerary for us and the team was very helpful and easy to work with leading up to our trip. In Tanzania, we has a great safari experience with our private guide Sosy, who was super knowledgeable and made sure we got a great variety of incredible wildlife experiences. We also loved all of the camps and resorts we stayed at during our trip. Would strongly recommend working with Wild Source for planning your safari!
Fantastic experience: We just returned from a 3 week adventure to Tanzania and Uganda. The Wild Source was amazing from beginning to end. When we first started planning our trip Emily asked all the right questions of what we wanted from our Safari experience and then put together the perfect trip. All the logistics were perfected by Brooke in Safari Ops and we were given a detailed check list of what we needed to complete before our trip. Everything went smoothly from the moment we were picked up at the Kilimanjaro Airport until we were delivered back to the Entebbe Airport for our journey home. We spent 2 weeks in Tanzania and all the camps we stayed at were outstanding. Njozi Camp in the Ntudu Conservation Area was amazing. Our private guide Fadhil Magoye was the best! His deep knowledge of all the animals, big and small, and his love and passion for the animals were apparent. We had the pleasure of meeting other Wild Source guides and biologists at Njozi Camp and they are all wonderful. I appreciate The Wild Source's commitment to conservation, research and supporting the local communities with their choices of camps and hiring highly trained biologists and guides who respect and love the animals. We saw many examples of bad behavior from other jeeps/guides and it was heart breaking to see cheetahs loose the opportunity to hunt due to jeeps surrounding them, or other jeeps driving into brush to "flush out" a mama cheetah and her cubs (they were not successful, I believe they got away unnoticed). We had long discussions about this with Fadhil and was so happy that he was always putting the animals first. We then spent an incredible week in Uganda trekking chimpanzees and gorillas. The Wild Source chose the best lodges for us and partnered with Classic Ugandan Safaris for our time in Uganda. Our guide Milton was great, his passion for his country and people was heartwarming. I can not even put into words the gorilla trekking experience, I still can't believe how close we were to these gentle giants! I was even kissed by a baby gorilla. This was a trip of a lifetime and I would HIGHLY recommend The Wild Source to anyone planning a safari in Africa.
Fantastic experience: Having just returned from our 10-day safari in Tanzania with Wild Source, all I can say is thank you! This tour group creating and executed that absolute best trip we could ever imagine with all of the logistics taken care of to perfection. All four of us have decided this was our favorite trip ever and hope to return to do northern Tanzania with Wild Source in the summer sometime in the future. The office staff provided excellent service in helping create our trip of a lifetime and the local staff (our guide Sosy) went above and beyond in everything for us especially with his knowledge of Big Cats and his background in wild life in general. There was not a question we had that he did not have an answer to. We cannot recommend more highly the Wild Source and hope to use them again. Ever grateful to everyone at Wild Source .
Fantastic experience: This was a fabulous experience!!!! The Wild Source did a marvelous job of taking care or everything. We did the Ultimate East Africa trip in Tanzania and Kenya. From the time they met us upon landing at the airport until we departed to fly home they were there to do all transfers between camps and airstrips and escort us the entire trip. We asked for a private guide and vehicle (which we would recomend) as it allows you to have 100% impute as to what you would like to see and do each day. The staff goes out of their way on service. Henry our guide kept us out everyday until we didn't want to see any more. He was very knowledgeable and personable. The camps were like staying at a five star hotel only with a canvas roof and walls. The best way to sum up the trip is it exceeded our expectations by a mile.
Fantastic experience: The wild source team was great. Helpful before and during the trip. We always felt comfortable and supported while in Kenya. And got to see all the animals that we could hope for. They set us up for a perfect trip. 5/5 would use again and recommend to a friend.
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source, located in the unlikely town of Golden Colorado, specializes in wild animal adventures. We recently returned from a trip to South Africa and Botswana that The Wild Source organized to our specifications. It was wonderful. We have spectacular pictures of animals, were treated like royalty at the camps, and enjoyed five star treatment to start the trip in Johannesburg and end the trip in Cape Town. Could not recommend these folks more highly.
Fantastic experience: Wrote this in 2014 but it appears as if I never posted it Better late than never. My friend and I used The Wild Source for our Dec. 2014 African Photography Safari. They were AWSOME!! They worked hard to fulfill our special requests. We started planning a year in advance and had to make several changes to the planned itinerary before it was finalized and they always came through. Best thing...they did their best to provide us a fabulous trip that was within our budget and we were not disappointed. It was our first Safari and we had no idea what to expect, traveling outside the US. They provided us with all the information we needed and everything went smoothly. No unexpected surprises. The people at the Wild Source and at the camps were all wonderful, friendly and knowledgeable. It was a trip of a life time one I will never forget. I cant wait until I have enough money to go back to Africa. When I do I will be using the Wild Source.
Fantastic experience: Wild Source, and their exceptional team, put together a 24-day, 5-country safari trip for us that was a simply a life-changing experience. We originally booked in September 2020, and rescheduled it twice to October 2021. The team, especially Emily, Jordan and Shannon, were the most responsive, detail-oriented professionals we have ever dealt with. Oh, and they had to organize 11 COVID tests (including many in the bush!) to get us from one country to another. Never once did anything go wrong. The on-the-ground teams were completely prepared, making every connection seamless. And the safari guides, especially the Wild Source team of Henry (Ngorongoro), George (Serengeti) and Peter (Maasai Mara) were top class. And if they suggest that you to add in the mountain gorillas in Uganda, just say YES!
Fantastic experience: The wild source is an amazing travel agency. They made sure we were able to have our dream safari in Kenya. We booked our trip only a month and a half before we took off and they made sure everything was smooth. One of the places we really wanted to stay was all booked up except for the family room. Our travel agent Annie advocated for us to stay in the family room for the regular price and was able to make that happen for us. Our favorite camp out of the three places we stayed was actually Enaidura camp which uses the wild sources awesome guides. Our guide Peter was amazing!! The staff at the camp treated us like family. Peter is so knowledgeable he made sure we got to see everything we wanted. I highly recommend going during the great migration and booking your safari with the Wild Source. Thank you guys so much we cannot wait to book another trip.
Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough about our trip to Kenya. The Wild Source put together an amazing itinerary. Our guide Peter took great care of of us at Enaidura Camp. We saw a wildebeest crossing, a cheetah kill and countless lions. This trip went beyond our expectations. I’m already planning my next safari.
Fantastic experience: My family and I just returned from our Safari & it was amazing! The Wild Source put together an amazing agenda. The accommodations, food, service, people and guide made for an unforgettable trip. I would highly recommend this company.
Fantastic experience: Our first trip with the Wild Source was to the Pantanal in Brazil in 2018. It was such a positive and incredible experience that when planning a Tanzania safari in 2021, we absolutely knew we would once again choose The Wild Source. Our guide, Sosy was incomparable---truly extraordinary and made the trip beyond any dreams or expectations we might have had. If you want an experience without crowds, with unique and countless animal encounters, the highest quality guides and the most authentic and well located camps, The Wild Source is hands-down the best choice. We also really admire and respect the general philosophy and integrity of this company. We will indeed plan another trip with them in the future!
Fantastic experience: I recently went on a 10-day Great Migration and Big Cats safari in Tanzania with Wild Source. For true wildlife lovers, this was an amazing safari experience. I have been on two other safaris and so have a base for comparison. Wild Source provides an authentic wildlife viewing education and experience. We did not lose precious viewing time to staying in camp for lunches and naps. We were in the bush with our box lunches, covering as much territory as possible for wildlife viewing. Wildlife viewing is directed by their professional, experienced guides/biologists. We did not view wildlife with multiple other safari operators and vehicles. During a day, we maybe encountered one or two other vehicles. Our viewings were accomplished through the keen eyes of our guide and not radio alerts and directions. We learned so much about the behavior of the animals and birds and their overall relationship to their environs. All of this was accomplished without disturbance to the wildlife or the environment. Our last camp was Njozi, a Wild Source camp that employs local biologists doing research on Big Cats. Our wildlife biologist/guide and the staff treated us like family. Our accommodations were very comfortable, the food beyond amazing and the opportunity to learn from the researchers was ever present at dinner and the campfires. This is a proud company with a commitment to wildlife, the environment, research and local ownership of the safari experience. If you want an off-the-beaten path experience, this is the number one company for you.
Fantastic experience: We travelled with the Wild Source to Tanzania in July 2021 for our first ever safari, after beginning planning with them in 2019. We had made tentative enquiries with other safari companies, but following our first contact with Annie at The Wild Source we were struck by her depth of knowledge, her desire to craft an extraordinary and unique experience for us, and her responsiveness to our questions and wishes. Once Annie had put together our itinerary, Jordan and Shannon were there every step of the way to help with logistics, including a postponement of the trip from 2020 to 2021, a change in trip participants, and detailed and continually updated advice for traveling during a pandemic. It was this level of support that convinced us that travel to Africa in summer of 2021 was not only possible but, because of the reduced number of other visitors, likely to be extra special. From being met at Kilimanjaro airport in Arusha to passing back through airport security for our return flight home, we were looked after by The Wild Source in a way I have never experienced before. The highlight of the trip was our guide, Fadhil. We had been drawn to Fadhil's biography because of his expertise as a big cat biologist, but the friendly warmth and gentle humor with which he welcomed us to the country, showed us many of its wonders and taught us about its animal and human inhabitants, was a daily delight. Fadhil's wildlife expertise also exceeded our expectations. The first day driving through Tarangire National Park and seeing the amazingly abundant wildlife there: elephants, zebras, giraffes, impalas, baboons with tiny babies, several species of mongoose, hawks, eagles, vultures, wildebeest, rollers, shrike, buffalo weavers, cheetah and lions it was hard to imagine how we could see more. But after this initial experience of the diversity of the wildlife, as we progressed through the Ngorongoro crater, the Central Serengeti and the Northern Serengeti, we were led to a more intimate appreciation because of Fadhil's deep understanding of animal behavior. He could tell that the lioness was ignoring her cub's pleas for attention because she was in a hunting mood (we saw her catch a Thompson's gazelle 15 minutes later). He knew the leopard would try to sneak down the tree past the hyena, and we watched it slink away and climb another. He showed us not just the wildebeest rushing pell-mell together through the Mara river, but waited with us for half an hour as we all watched three giraffes attempt to cross much more slowly and carefully. We all had our hearts in our mouths when the largest giraffe became stuck and a crocodile slid into the water and swam lazily over to investigate; we were relieved when after 15 minutes struggling against the current and the slippery rocks the giraffe was able to free himself. And then there were the camps, each of which was spectacular, staffed by wonderful friendly people and serving the most delicious food. The only night sounds were the lions, hyenas and wildebeest, as Winnie at Njozi Camp said, "having business discussions"! The camp staff also shared their many fascinating animal experiences. Njozi Camp, which is operated by The Wild Source, employs wildlife biologists (David and Yusuf), who sit with guests in the evening and happily discuss the local lion prides by name! Yusuf also has an amazing singing voice. At the very end of the trip (2 weeks have never passed so quickly), at the last minute we ran into a COVID-testing snafu at the airport. I emailed the US staff including Wild Source Co-Founder Bill Given for help, he responded immediately and asked Mariam the Operations Manager in Arusha to come and help. It was 7 pm on Friday evening; Mariam came straight over, found us and helped us get onto the plane. The Wild Source has an exceptional team, they care deeply about wildlife and their clients. Two weeks later, my feet are still not back on the ground.
Fantastic experience: Trip of a lifetime in Kenya! The Wild Source expertly planned and adjusted out itinerary to meet our needs. All details were arranged from when we landed in Nairobi and they took it from there - lodging, transportation, 3 parks, excellent guides, food and even arranging COVID testing for our return to the US. Definitely recommend for anyone's African safari dream vacation
Fantastic experience: We stayed at Njosi camp for 6 nights in late February, 2021. The Njosi camp is known for high quality guides and good wildlife sightings, and one of the few camps (if not the only one) that is co-owned by Tanzanian guides, which is what attracted us. The camp advertises it's 'for wildlife enthusiasts' but it was extremely comfortable and the food was a pleasant surprise. They even put hot water bottles in the bed for comfort throughout the cooler nights and bring you rubber boots if it rains. The lodge's tents are so-called Meru style and almost new, and well equipped with a big very comfortable bed, more electrical outlets than the typical hotel room, and ample space inside the tent considering it includes an ensuite bathroom and dressing area. Everything about the layout is very well designed, including the location of light switches, so no fumbling for those at night. Filtered water bottles are provided for brushing teeth and washing faces. The shower is a 'bucket' style typical of mobile camps. If you're unsure about what a bucket shower is, you should google it so you know what you're in for. Note that the water at Njozi is super soft, so it might feel like the shower hasn't removed all the soap. The large dining tent splits the camp so all tents are close to it and to the central firepit and cocktails. Massai tribesmen escort you to your tent after dark and before sunrise, since wildlife is nearby. All the staff were delightful and getting to know them provided a more genuine safari experience. The camp's southern location is a well chosen quiet spot; unlike some other camps we've heard about in the crowded Ndutu area, at Njozi we didn't hear any generators or noise from neighbouring camps. Instead, we heard wildlife at night, which is abundant and nearby -- one morning just minutes from the camp we saw lions trying to ambush some wildebeest (but a few cubs spoiled it). The Ndutu area is famous for the calving season and mega herds around Jan-March and for its lion prides year round. It's located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) so off-roading is permitted (unlike the Serengeti National Park, where it is not). Our safari jeep was a Landcruiser pop up (as opposed to open-sided jeeps with covered canvas tops). Pop ups work just as well for photography as open-sided jeeps; if you're too short to shoot while standing you can stand on the seats. Like most safari jeeps, they had electrical charging outlets installed for cameras. There are pros and cons of both pop ups and open-sided jeeps, but neither is a 'bad' option in the Serengeti. Our guide for 9 nights (6 at Njozi and 3 at Kusini Sanctuary) was Fadhil, whose father (Deo) is head guide and one of the co-owners. Fadhil is a extremely knowledgeable, has a keen eye for photography, and he really knows his way around the Serengeti and NCA, including the northern Serengeti since the Njozi camp moves there for the dry season. Our safari drives with Fadhil were the best that we've had anywhere during our whole month spent in the Serengeti. We'll definitely be staying with the Njozi team on our next trip to the northern Serengeti for the river crossings during dry season, with Fadhil hopefully as our guide.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic Experience! Very nice tented camp! Wonderful guides and good food!
Fantastic experience: If I were to sum up my experience on a safari with The Wild Source in one word, it would be WOW! It was spectacularly fantastic! Thank you to the considerate and thoughtful staff, particularly Fadhil and Deo Magoye for teaching me so much and for continually lending me pens, which I continually lost....to my embarrassment. This is my favorite photo, which Fadhil took for me, after we caught on that I no longer was the photographer that I once was. I really love this photo and appreciate Fadhil's thoughtfulness in coming to my rescue on this first safari with his camera skills using my new camera. If you are counting, I have now taken three safaris with him and am scheduled for two more in 2021. Yahoo!
Fantastic experience: Best itinerary imaginable to see spring calving version of the wildebeest migration which includes zebras, ostrich, and gazelles. The famous migration river area in the spring is empty if travelers but busy with hippos. Deo and his family must be Tanzania’s very best guides. We were totally spoiled by Deo, Sosy, David & Winnie. Njozi camp overflows with enthusiasm and love. We saw so many lions, cheetahs, giraffe and elephants they almost became routine. How can that be?? Go with Wild Source! You’ll be very thankful you did.
Fantastic experience: Planning our first safari trip to Africa was a daunting task. We interviewed many travel companies and Wild Source by far was the best. They were the fastest, most insightful, and provided the best value for what we wanted. The trip ended up exceeding our expectations and every part of it went smoothly. Highly recommend them!
Fantastic experience: Awesome trip. Couldn't ask for a better itinerary or guide. The trip was fantastic and seamless. The accommodations were outstanding, the food fantastic, the camp staff warm and welcoming ... and of course loads of wonderful wildlife viewing opportunities. Can't wait for our next trip with Wildsource.
Fantastic experience: Incredible team that creates the best vacations! Well informed, thoughtful, and tailored, working with The Wild Source is always a pleasure. The trips are flawless and magical... their camps are embedded in the bush without compromising on luxury, the guides are extremely experienced (and can help you with photography!), and the staff makes you immediately feel at home. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: My family of 5 just returned from an absolutely amazing safari in Tanzania with the Wild Source. They made the planning very easy with detailed information and quick communication. They planned the safari so that we had plenty of time to rest and enjoy the luxury of the camps, but also get tons of game driving time. Stumbling into an elephant on our hike around Manyara Ranch Conservancy, seeing a serval and black rhino as well as lions next to our truck in Ngorongoro Crater, and hanging out with a mother cheetah with 2 cubs, thousands of wildebeests, and lions in trees in the Serengeti were just a few of our highlights. If you are looking for a company that prioritizes ethical guiding and ecotourism practices and uses trained wildlife biologists as guides, then this is the safari company for you! We will definitely be using them again!
Fantastic experience: We used the Wild Source on a recent safari to Botswana and had a fantastic experience. The staff is extremely knowledgable, readily available to help, and provided exceptional support to the very end of our trip, beyond just securing the initial booking.
Fantastic experience: I have put off going on safari for years because I was intimidated by the number of options for a safari and I was lost when it came to what to pick when booking a safari and no one could have steered me better. We used Wild Source to organize our trip to the Masai Mara and weeks later I am still pinching myself because the safari they organized for us was too amazing to be believed. I will definitely be back on safari and I would never consider using another travel agency thanks to the professionalism, level of service, knowledge and attention to detail the wild source team exhibited. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!
Fantastic experience: Flawless planning, great communication, and the most amazing safari with Deo on the ground in Tanzania. Looking forward to my next trip with the Wild Source
Fantastic experience: Four adults travelled with Wild Source in October 2019 in Tanzania. We have only the highest praise for Wild Source. Every detail of the trip was well planned. The guide, Joshua, is superb. Each day exceeded expectations. Wild Source staff in the U.S. and Tanzania could not have been more helpful. Spending the last few nights at the Wild Source camp in Northern Serengeti, including drinks around the campfire and dinner with the local environmental biologist, was a treat at the end of the trip.
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source organized a perfect itinerary for our first safari. We heard from friends that Botswana was a fantastic destination. Looked online and found TWS. Very pleased from beginning to end at the level of communication in getting our initial questions answered and random questions as we progressed. We added on several days at the beginning of our trip to check out Johannesburg and also Victoria Falls and were happy that TWS coordinated the extra days to round out our trip to Africa. We were thrilled at the camps they selected for us. Each was unique and offered its own perks. All 3 were wonderful, but we agreed that our favorite was Bushman’s Plains Camp. What an amazing experience!
Fantastic experience: We just returned from Quintessential Tanzania: River Crossing Season Safari impeccably organized by The Wild Source. From the time we were met on landing in Arusha, till we started our return journey, every detail of our safari went as planned. This was a trip of a lifetime and we owe it all to Annie, Shannon, and especially our outstanding guide, George Mbwambo.
Fantastic experience: Wild source has now planned two trips to Africa for us. One was to Botswana and one was to Kenya. Both trips were spectacular. This began with the initial planning. We discussed with Shannon what we wanted to see and our budget and she helped plan an itinerary that more than exceeded our expectations. Wild Source handled everything other than our transportation from the United States to Africa. The camps that we stayed at we’re all terrific and the guides and trackers were fantastic. I cannot recommend Wild Source more highly if this is your first trip or your tenth.
Fantastic experience: Our family of 6 went to Tanzania with Wild Source in August. I can't say enough wonderful things about Wild Source. Planning with Darcie and Shannon was efficient and easy, with a customized route for our family. Deo Magoye our guide was brilliant. He seemed to be the master of all guides, with others seeking his advice along the way. Lodges and tented camps were comfortable, some luxurious, staff always helpful, food good, and safari vehicle comfortable. The highlight of our trip was our stay at Njozi North Camp in the Serengeti, which is owned by Wild Source (Bill and Deo) and where they have their cat research center. Dinner with the biologists, flexible meal times and menus so that Deo could take us out at optimal times, lovely bathrooms and showers, and best campsite bar on our trip. I will definitely be taking more trips with Wild Source. They are by far the best!
Fantastic experience: I cannot imagine a better firm to work with in planning and arranging your safari. Our entire trip was hassle free, truly luxurious and filled with amazing animals. The people at The Wild Source have unparalleled knowledge and work diligently to make your experience the trip of a lifetime.
Fantastic experience: Outstanding wildlife viewing safari experience. Would highly recommend to anyone seeking a serious game drive experience with knowledgeable caring guides and great mix of accommodations.
Fantastic experience: We have worked with The Wild Source since 2016 and planned three different safari experiences with them. They are the best company we have ever worked with and will continue to work with them in the future. We have been on 13 different safaris in our lifetime but without a doubt The Wild Source is the preeminent company out there! No detail is left out, no question goes unnswered and we know exactly what to expect when we arrive in our camps. While we have never met them in person, we feel like we know Bill Given, Darcie Carr Smith and Shannon Gore personally. Darcie seems to know what we would want even before we do! And working with her has been a lot of fun in addition to being so productive. Additionally, we should add that these are good people who are supporting the efforts of local community people who are in the camps. We are currently working with them for our next safari. If you want a company whose primary goal is to find you the best experience possible, keep your safety in mind at all times, allows and encourages your input and provides you with their expertise, look no further than The Wild Source!
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source put together a wonderful trip to the Maasai Mara and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest that far exceeded our expectations. There was barely a glitch in the entire 10 days of travel. Accommodations were lovely, animal viewing was unbelievable, and above all, every person we encountered was kind and helpful. We were taken care of from the moment we arrived at Nairobi to the moment we left from Entebbe. Additionally, in the planning process, the Wild Source was available to answer our questions or find the answers to our questions if uncertain.
Fantastic experience: I couldn't have wished for a more perfect trip. The staff and their expertise made all the difference. I would highly recommend The while Source to anyone interested in a safari trip.
Fantastic experience: It is impossible to have the “perfect travel experience.” Well, that was what I thought before traveling to Tanzania’s Northern Circuit with TWS. Annie worked so hard, as did everyone I dealt with at the office, and she consulted with Bill to choose the best areas to ensure optimal game viewing possibilities, including the spectacular Great Migration, for our group of four. Every detail was handled expertly and the trip was beyond our expectations, which were pretty high based on feedback regarding TWS. I made several itinerary changes in the year and a half of planning and Annie handled all of my indecisiveness with grace and professionalism. We got great, low season pricing traveling in April and the weather was great. Very little rain despite it being the long rain season. All of our accommodations were fantastic and we especially loved their own camp, Njozi. Our vehicle was awesome and all of the food spectacular. This was my second safari ( first was to Kenya with a group) and everyone else had never been to Africa. It was truly life changing, as Africa is, but this experience far surpassed my first, wonderful, nearly perfect safari by far. Traveling in a private grouping is truly remarkable... This leads to the absolute BEST part of our trip, the person who truly made this experience MAGICAL... Our guide, Fadhil. He is one of the most amazing, young biologists/guides on the face of the planet! I am a wildlife biologist myself who travels extensively with high standards for guides (which he exceeded), and he was a perfect fit for our group. His passion for Tanzania is and the country’s overwhelming amount of amazing wildlife is contagious and his knowledge regarding so many species mind boggling. We all learned so much and enjoyed every minute we spent with this special man. He is also a very advanced photographer and gave us tips when needed. He handled any issues that arose (flat tire, getting stuck in black cotton soil once) calmly, confidently, and efficiently. He has an uncanny ability to anticipate behavior and movements, particularly the cats, which delivered some truly NatGeo moments. From being warned to maintain our safe distance by the matriarch of a breeding herd of ellies on the move, complete with some very young calfs, to watching a lioness intimately and lovingly interact with her daughter and cubs (belonging to both of them) mere feet away before launching a failed hunt as a herd of wildies happened by... There really are no words to do Africa justice. It must be taken in by every sense, every pore. The same goes for our experience with Fadhil and TWS. You must travel with them to really understand how amazing they truly are. I am already thinking of Botswana in the green season for 2021... If you are considering a safari do not second guess it, just book with TWS!
Fantastic experience: Our accommodations were outstanding. The people we met in Africa were lovely, kind and ever so helpful!
Fantastic experience: If I could give 10 stars I would. I am a world traveler and have been to many continents and used many tour companies. Wild Source provided the most meaningful and impactful trip of my life. This was not just about looking at animals. The guides were all trained biologist with an encyclopedic knowledge of animal behavior. It was like they could track animals with all of their senses and it felt like we were stalkers in the Serengeti. We also added in a cultural and mission component. We spent a day with each of three different tribes. Massai, Hadzabi and Toga. We also did some mission work at a local primary school. The highlight for me was visiting the Hadzabi in the middle of nowhere and spending the day with them. We watched them get completely high (part of their culture) and then went on a hunt with them. We encountered an 8 foot Mozambique spitting cobra. They shot it about 10 times in the head and the snake continued to raise its head and fight back. My sons got to take a chance at shooting it. It was exhilirating, amazing, mind-blowing. Special shout out to our guides, Deo, Fadhil, David and Sosy. They were amazing. Forget the lodges, stay in the tented camps. They are spectacular. I could go on and on. I am already thinking about another trip with Wild Source to Rwanda to see the Silverbacks.
Fantastic experience: Thanks to Shannon and and Darcie for arranging another magical tour to Africa for me and my friend (Botswana, including the Okavango Delta and the Makgadikgadi Pans area of the Kalahari Desert as well as the Victoria Falls area of Zimbabwe). This is the second time we have used The Wild Source to help us plan a trip to Africa and I would not hesitate to employ their services again and again. Shannon and Darcie are great at listening to our interests and suggesting places that are in-line with our desires as well as our budget. Specifically, this trip we wanted to have more active engagement during our safari experience and they came through with suggestions for walking and boating safaris. Much appreciated. Also, the bush flights (3) that we took, although a bit more costly way to travel, cut down on the travel time between stops and gave us a great overview of these amazing places. After our 2 week safari planned through The Wild Source, we visited Kenya on a volunteer program that we arranged for directly. During the program, we ran into a situation where we needed a night in a hotel in Nairobi. We turned to The Wild Source (via email) for help and they arranged a beautiful night of lodging along with a late (very late) check-out to accommodate our travel needs, all at value pricing. Before traveling to Africa the first time, I performed extensive research on tour companies. During that review, The Wild Source rose to the top for value, idea generation, listening to their clients, and full service assistance. Don't waste time with anyone else, call The Wild Source and have them help you plan your dream trip to Africa!!
Fantastic experience: My friend and I have used The Wild Source for our travel to Africa on two occasions--Uganda, Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Kenya. They are wonderful. Darcie and Shannon are knowledgeable, accommodating and very responsive. After getting to know us, they arranged for just the perfect lodgings and safaris at the right price point. All transfers between locations went smoothly and The Wild Source works with very professional local guides and lodges. We couldn't be happier. We will work with them again.
Fantastic experience: My wife and I have done a lot of traveling and, three and a half years ago, decided (in our 70's) that it was time we tried an African safari. I stumbled on the Wild Source website, and made an inquiry. Their safari planner, Darcie, got right back to me; they had put together a small group safari to Tanzania: (2 vehicles, 8 guests, 2 of their best local guides) that was leaving soon and still had 2 openings. That trip was a wonderful introduction to Africa -- Darcie also arranged a 3-day pre-safari with a private guide and 3 fascinating days in Zanzibar to rest up afterward -- all at a very reasonable cost. We became totally hooked on Africa, and will be taking our 7th! safari with Wild Source this August -- 6 different countries and some 25 different camps. The owner, Bill Given, has personally put together a number of those trips for us (which involves lots of emailing back and forth to get the mix of camps and dates just right -- by now we have some strong feelings on what we want) The philosophy of Wild Source prioritizes wildlife experiences, really getting to closely observe animal behavior and interaction, rather than just ticking off "Big Five" sightings or lounging in overly luxurious camps. As their "legendary" Masai guide, Ping, in Kenya, puts it: "I'd rather give you a some experiences you'll remember for the rest of your life". (and that he has, along with the others of the local Wild Source guides...) Wild Source co-owns three excellent camps with their top local owner/guides in Tanzania, Kenya, and Botswana -- we have had several wonderful private safaris based at these camps -- but they also have first hand knowledge of all the other safari areas and facilities, and are sensitive to issues of cost/benefit balancing. Finally, the logistical planning that goes into one of these trips can be daunting: multiple bush plane flights, transfers within cities and in the bush, border crossings, etc -- and I can say that Wild Source's attention to these details has resulted in smooth journeys for us and confidence that they "have our back" around any problems that might arise in this sometimes chaotic part of the world I can recommend The Wild Source without reservation for first-time or repeat safari travelers.
Fantastic experience: Incredible experience at Bushman Plains camp. My husband and I had been looking for a safari/camp experience that would allow us a glimpse into the Bushman culture, as well as give us ample opportunity to see the wildlife in the area. Bushman plains exceeded our every expectation - it was truly a once in a lifetime experience. We stayed for 3 nights and were treated to extremely close up views of all the major game we had hoped to see, plus many other species. The staff treat you like one of the family, and make every effort to answer any questions you might have. The accommodations are beautiful tented spaces in the trees, and all guests had a private tent of their own that was very tidy, airy, and comfortable. The food is all cooked on site fresh, and includes traditional Bushman dishes - these were so delicious! The views of the animals from our tent in the mornings, during afternoon siesta, and at night were second to none. This is truly a very special spot and it was a highlight of our trip (and our lives!)!
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source provided our group of six with an amazing adventure in Kenya and Tanzania. Every aspect of the trip from pre-planning to final execution was excellent. The camps were wonderful (Tortilis, Njozi, Enaidura and Naboisho). The staff at the camps were all very friendly and helpful. I would especially like to recognize the staff at Njozi which went above and beyond expectations to assist two of our group that were very sick during our stay at their camp. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable. They were also great at getting our vehicle in the right place at the right time to get great pictures. The staff at Wild Source were great from beginning to end. The pre-planning provided by Annie was wonderful. She was patient and informative which made the experience enjoyable. There was never any sales pressure only genuine help in guiding us to prepare the best possible safari. Once the planning was complete, the ongoing support from Shannon in the office was terrific. I would highly recommend Wild Source to anyone planning a trip to Africa for safari.
Fantastic experience: We were so pleased with our last African Safari arranged through The Wild Source that contacting them again for our next trip was a no brainer. Darcie and Shannon are extremely professional and competent. They worked with me to determine exactly what we wanted and set about arranging our trip. They made common sense suggestions regarding places to stay, itineraries, and lengths of time at each location. They were very knowledgeable and helpful in the planning process. Once the trip was arranged, they were ever present to quickly answer questions and provide assistance as needed. We were provided detailed documentation and helpful information to ensure we had a smooth and uneventful trip. They handled everything from our arrival in Nairobi to our departure. All we had to do was relax and enjoy our vacation. I highly recommend The Wild Source for African safaris and will use their services again in the future. Our guide, Johnson Pingua Nkukuu (Ping), was outstanding! He was our guide in the Mara during our last visit and we were so impressed we wanted him as our guide on this trip also. Piing has a deep understanding of animals and their behavior. This coupled with his intimate knowledge of the Mara and his sharp eye make him one of the best guides we’ve had. In addition to his skill as a guide, he is an experienced photographer with a keen eye. He will point out potential shots and work hard to ensure you are in position to take full advantage of the best possible light and get amazing photographs. With the Wild Source our game drives lasted all day. We had breakfast and lunch on the savannah enabling us to stay out observing animals while others had to return to camps. A real boon as we had many opportunities to observe animals with no other vehicles in the vicinity.
Fantastic experience: We had the trip of a lifetime to Botswana and Zimbabwe. It was all made possible by the excellent team at the wild source. Every detail was attended to. Our game drives, accommodations, food and the service we received from the staff, guides and trackers were first-rate. This trip exceeded our expectations in every area. We are very happy.
Fantastic experience: Our family of four recently returned from a Wild Source-planned trip to Tanzania. It was truly a trip of a lifetime, with memories that will last forever. The trip exceeded our expectations in many ways. The main thing that made our trip so special was Fadhil, our guide. He was a great match for our family. He was very personable, yet professional. And, he was a wealth of information about the animals (especially the lions), the countryside and the people. And driving through the Ndutu area was especially great because he knew the lions individually due to his research in this area. We had the opportunity to revisit many of the same animals for 2-3 days to observe their movement and activities. We were all on-board to get up early most days, including taking our breakfast out on the road, and appreciated Fadhil's eagerness to do this. His enthusiasm and obvious love of the animals was inspiring. In addition to seeing the "Big 5," we saw at least 20 other mammals and too many bird species to count. Some highlights: seeing hordes of wildebeest and zebras in the Serengeti, witnessing 2 cheetahs kill a baby gazelle (well, actually, this was a highlight for some of us, but was a bit emotional for me), finding the den where a lioness was hiding her four cubs and watching them nurse, watching three lions keep an eye out for a herd of elephant and moving away (slowly) to avoid them. We stayed in three locations (on the rim of Ngorogoro Crater plus one place in the southern Serengeti and one in the central Serengeti area). We stayed in Lemala tented camps in all three areas. The accommodations were very comfortable and we really enjoyed coming "home" there at the end of each day. The staff went out of their way to make us comfortable and the food was very good. They were a great choice! After our safari adventure, we spent three nights on Mafia Island, part of the first aqua nature preserve in Tanzania. There, we snorkeled around extremely healthy coral reefs and even got to spend a morning snorkeling alongside whale sharks. It was a perfect end to a magical vacation.
Fantastic experience: Words cannot describe our safari experience with The Wild Source. We were very fortunate to have booked our safari, with a company who values conservation, professionalism, and customer service. Our guide was excellent, he was highly knowledgeable about the animals, the environment, the region, and the weather. This company knows what they are doing, we were worry free on our entire trip, and highly impressed with the accommodations, and private guide and transportation. I would book with The Wild Source for our next safari, in a heart beat!
Fantastic experience: My numerous travels planned by The Wild Source have been exceptional. They leave nothing up to chance; anticipate every need; go above and beyond; and address every detail. Working with TWS enables me to travel anxiety free, confident that I’m protected and cared for. I highly recommend them!
Fantastic experience: Our African safari with The Wild Source was exceptional. Of importance to us was that our guides had outstanding local science knowledge and we were out from dawn to dusk viewing the wildlife (what we came for). Also, we did not have to be in a large group - their tours start with just two and adding folks decreases the cost. We added another couple whom we travel with - so it was only four of us in the safari vehicle with lots of room to take pictures and see the wildlife. Most of the trips we looked at started with many more participants which can make it hard for organization and viewing. The tent camps were awesome with hot showers and private toilets and the food was excellent. Five Star!!!
Fantastic experience: My husband and I used Wild Source to plan our honeymoon in Tanzania. Between planning a wedding, looking for a new home, and working we had virtually no time for planning a honeymoon. I am extremely happy I found Wild Source to do all the planning for me! From the first email exchange I knew I was in good hands. They are very responsive, flexible, organized and professional. They work with the best guides and choose the nicest lodgings. We had an amazing time, all the logistics worked out like clockwork and all we had to do is enjoy ourselves, which is exactly what we were looking for. Thanks to our guide we got to see a ton of animals and quite close! We now have a great number of pictures to decorate our new home with.
Fantastic experience: The trip planned for us by The Wild Source far exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend using The wild Sn adventure!
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source (TWS) did a great job of scheduling a two-week safari in Kenya and Tanzania that my girlfriend and I recently completed. I had wanted to go see African wildlife for many years. The Fodor travel guide series includes one for African safaris, and it gave me ideas about the locations I would want to visit. So, I told TWS the places I'd like to go. And asked them to put together an itinerary, with their recommendations of where to stay, and for how long, also take care of all transportation except air travel to and from Africa, choose our guide/drivers, and give me a price. That positioned us for final adjustments and negotiations. Result: we had a great safari, liked the places we stayed, liked our guides, saw lots and lots of wildlife (much of it up close!), enjoyed the personalities we met, and now have special memories and lots of photographs. Job well done, TWS! They were great to work with, patient and helpful. PS: I want to add a postscript. At the beginning, I was at a loss to know how to plan a trip to see African wildlife. The desirable places to visit? The people to help put the plan together? I was clueless about how to even begin. SO... drum roll... The Fodor travel guide for African safaris does both: discusses places to visit AND early on has a list of the Ten Best Outfitters, followed by a list of 15 Highly Recommended Outfitters. Great! I looked at their web pages, and started calling selected outfitters to get a feel for them. Eventually I made a choice.
Fantastic experience: I went on a Safari with Wild Source to India. The animal viewing was spectacular and learning about nature was wonderful. We stayed in 3 different national parks and outstanding lodges with delicious food. Darci was our leader from Wild Source and she was so helpful and informed, I would go with her on any trip. Interjed was our in country naturalist who was very knowledgeable as well as personable. I highly recommend this safari to anyone interested in seeing wildlife in India
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source is a consistently superb wildlife travel service with a strong focus on exceptional guiding, customer comfort and service and importantly, a highly ethical approach to wildlife travel. I have traveled through The Wild Source on custom and small group trips to Tanzania, Kenya, India, Brazil, Chile--and anticipate future trips with them. I give them the highest possible recommendation!
Fantastic experience: Organised thethe saf of a lifetime for us, highly recommended
Fantastic experience: This bucket list trip completely exceeded our expectations in terms of an African wildlife experience. Not our first trip to Africa but our first to Tanzania. Each park brought us closer to amazing anf abundant wildlife. The camps were small and comfy and ideally situated with wonderfully accommodating staff. The game drives from 6 to 6 afforded us optimal opportunities to see more lions, elephants, giraffe, hyenas, raptors, wildebeest....and many other species than I ever anticipated. The food was crazy good and plentiful. And the highlight of the great migration across the Mara River in the western Serengeti cannot be described in words or pictures....seeing it in person made this one of the most unforgettable moments of my life. And to top this off....the Wild Source is actively working on conservation efforts giving them a unique perspective on integrating tourism with the wildlife experience, helping to not only entertain but educate their clients to understand how we all play a part.
Fantastic experience: We truly can't thank Wild Source enough for helping organize our Africa trip to Bushman Plains Camp! Everything was well-organized and we were kept very well-informed! All the information that was provided was spot-on in terms of what we needed to know before our trip. They also helped catch a name error on one of the legs of the flights I had booked before we left the states. What a disaster that could have been! We had an amazing trip and will definitely use them to help us coordinate our next adventure!
Fantastic experience: We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Wild Source! Personalized planning, fantastic Safari guide, and wonderful accommodations - our trip was seamless. We especially liked that The Wild Source was able to tell us exactly who our guide would be and provide a bio prior to booking. Our trip exceeded our expectations and we will definitely reach out to The Wild Source for future travels to Africa.
Fantastic experience: If you are thinking of going on safari to Africa, call the Wild Source! They were so helpful creating an amazing experience for my family to South Africa and Tanzania that we will all cherish. Everyone was happy from my 75 year old mother to my 15 year old daughter. The itinerary they designed was perfect and gave us time to explore and the accommodations were incredible. The best part was our guide who became practically part of the family during our safari portion. His knowledge of the animals and area were incredible as well as being part of the big cat research that Wild Source supports. This is definitely a company that want its clients to have an incredible experience but also learn and come away with an appreciation of the conservation efforts being made in Tanzania. Can't recommend highly enough.
Fantastic experience: My family had the trip of a lifetime with Wild Source. Every detail of our journey was taken care of with meticulous care first in the planning and then in the process of this magnificent trip. A safari trip to Africa was number one on my bucket, and my dreams were fulfilled. We began with chimp and gorilla trekking in Uganda, first in Kibale and then in the Bwindi Forest. Our guide, Frances, was knowledgable, caring and entertaining. He did a wonderful job of representing the history, landscape, and natural habitat of this glorious country. Our guest accommodations at the Karibu Guesthouse, Ndali Lodge, Bwindi Lodge, The African Tulip Hotel, and Asanja Camp were glorious. Ndali Lodge is especially stunning, set in the crater lake region of Western Uganda. Our host, Gilbert made sure our every need was taken care of. Bwindi Lodge is a truly luxurious lodge with beautiful bandas. Our hosts took care of our need and the food was deliciously fresh and innovative. We then flew to Tanzania where we were greeted by our guide, Fadhil. A young man with an old soul, Fadhil was the Mr. Miyagi of our journey. There was not a single question (and we asked a lot of them) that Fadhil could not answer. He is a virtual mine of fascinating information about Tanzania as well as nature, animals, birds, conservancy. And beyond this, Fadhil exhibits a preternaturally zen-like calm, warmth, and loving spirit. He joined us for meals at our magnificent camps. All of the camps were lovely: the Lemala Ngorongoro tented camp was an easy quick drive to the crater which was replete with animals, the Asanja Africa camp in the Central Serengeti where the hosts prepared welcomed us with open arms, and the Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge in the Northern Serengeti where Daniel and his incredibly kind staff give a whole new meaning to the words "customer service". The camp is spectacular in every way. Thank you, Wild Source for making my dreams come true.
Fantastic experience: We just completed a Safari and Gorilla Trek that was planned by Wild Source. We were in Africa from May 29 - June 12. In Tanzania we visited Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Central Serengeti and the Masai Mara. We then flew to Kigali, Rwanda and went to Five Volcanoes Nation Park to trek with the gorillas. The entire trip was incredible. Each day we said "we don't know how this can get any better". And each day it did. Sosy Maira was our guide for Tarangire, the Crater and Serengeti. Johnson Ping'ua Nkukuu (Ping) was our guide for Masai Mara. Both were incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastically shared it with us. They made the trip special. I will post camp specific information later on Trip Advisor. (All camps were amazing.) Our guide/driver in Rwanda was named Eric. He met as at the Kigali airport and spent three days driving us. He was proud of his country for the progress that has been made since the 1994 Genocide and was anxious to share everything with us. He made sure we had everything needed to the gorilla treks and made the entire experience wonderful. If a Safari or gorilla trek is on your to do list, just call Wild Source in Golden Colorado. They will make your dreams come true.
Fantastic experience: My brother Allan worked with the Wild Source . Donna, Darcie, Shannon to create an experience my wife Honey and I could not even dream was possible . as it was so exceptional that we are still feeling the experience several weeks after we are home .... Every place we stayed at had its own characteristics and wonderful experiences The staff at each place were very accommodating and there was nothing that we asked for that was not taken care of We were made to feel as if we were their only visitor and even though there were other people at the resorts we still had our privacy The food was delicious and each place had their own creations The guides were exceptional showing us the animals in their area and we still can not figure out how they found their way home after the game drive each night as they were miles away from home base We learned about the characteristics of the animals and the topography which we were not aware of The animals were surreal and it seemed as if they were put there just for us The guides are very safety conscious ..having enough water for everyone and guiding us to take pictures safely and enough variety of liquid pleasures for a sundowner I took 4,859 pictures on my camera and still going through them , as it is difficult to eliminate We never expected anything like the exceptional experiences we had and would definitely use the Wild Source again The Wild Source is a very experienced travel company as they have all at one time have been to the places they recommend and were easy to talk with and work with and were never bothered by the many phone calls I made to get information The Wild Source wanted to make sure you were comfortable with where you're going and what you had to take with you The Wild Source supplied you with a booklet of details of what is required ...what clothes to bring , the size of the luggage , suggested medication accessories etc and also supplied a booklet of your itinerary with all the information that applies to each resort THANK YOU ..WILD SOURCE and thank you Brother Allan Melvin and Honey Laucker
Fantastic experience: The Wild Source planned the trip of a lifetime for my family. Donna was superb in listening to what we were looking for, offering suggestions, and clearly describing the options available not just for lodging and experience, but time of year, weather, etc. Her knowledge of the camps was invaluable. Working with her we settled on an itinerary that included 3 camps and 2 lodges, each one as it turned out better than the last. Our expectations were exceeded every day and we are grateful to The Wild Source for recommending such wonderful places, people and animals to experience. Their communication, written guides and their really cool smartphone app were superb. Bottom line is that this trip, because of the Wild Source, could not have been better. Will definitely work with them again for our next trip!
