Fantastic experience: Hey, it's a "camp", so don't expect the Ritz, but it's cozy and Scott was very accommodating. As far as location...I can't imagine it gets much better than 25 yards from Moosehead Lake!

Negative experience: Called a week ago about parking at Wilsons. Lady I spoke with told me plenty of parking. $10 for vehicle,$15 for truck with trailor. I haven't been ice fishing for years and was really looking forward to it. I just called back and the lady I spoke with said NO parking unless we rent a camp! It would have been nice if she had told me that last week. She had a real nasty attitude in addition. I asked her about parking elsewhere and she suggested Greenvile when she knew I was going to fish Rockwood. A real mean one. People these days are horrible and care only about profit , Wilson's Camps included. Hopefully they go out of Business and someone decent buys them out!

Fantastic experience: Fantastic location! The cabin we stayed in had all the amenities of a rustic Maine cabin. The views were incredible.

Positive experience: Stayed in the lakeside cabin with my significant other for 1 week. When going into the office at check in I noticed that there was a lot of clutter in there to the point that you were unable to move. I payed my remaining balance and then the owner said that the cabin was open and ready for us. I was surprised that there was no actual locks on the doors which meant that no valuables stayed inside while we were not there. The cabin was clean however it took multiple tries to flush the toilet (everytime), the shower did not drain and there were holes in-between the wooden beams so the outside was visible. We had to shove a shirt in between the beams so the bugs would not come in! It is clear that this once was a very nice place to stay, but the upkeep has lapsed. It maybe more suitable for hunters and fishers during the season rather than a couple on vacation. The fireplace was not working one night, I had called multiple numbers that were on the website and no response, so I went to the garage on the property and asked someone, he didn't hesitate to come look at it! The view was lovely, the Greenville area is so nice, and the people are very friendly!

Fantastic experience: We have visited for the last 4 years, and the cabins are always clean and fully prepared. Allison and Scott are amazing and very friendly hosts. we plan on many more Staycations with them and the views are spectacular.

Negative experience: Worst experience ever, dumpy, no locks on the doors, ( they don't even open or close correctly. Buildings in complete disarray. The Cabin Smelled bad, the owner said to close your doors as cats go in.... I certainly can see that did happen ( or smell it)the hot tub they advertised hasn't worked for months. Beautiful view of the lake...that's about it. I really don't like leaving this review but renters beware!! I was here about 30 minutes before I realized the screaming drunk guys 25 feet away from us, and we left and found another place to stay. I didn't try to get my money back, after reading reviews I knew that was a joke. I also realized that there were plenty of warnings on Google but I didn't read far enough, I see that they get a bad review and the friends and relatives (they have to be) say what a great place to stay!! ( Not) What a disaster/disappointment.

Negative experience: Maybe we got unlucky with our cabin but this place is a dump. The smell inside the cabin was a mixture of mold and death. The kitchen window is completely cracked, the couch is so decrepit and I can't imagine what has transpired on it to make it look so nasty. The carpet has seen much better days and all around its truly not pleasant. We literally could not stay there for the night and went to the motel down the road within 10 minutes. We traveled from Corado specificly for the experience of a cabin on the lake and was epically let down. I wish you could smell the photos so you understood how bad this place smells. Also, these photos actually make this place look decent but I promise its the filter on my phone.

Fantastic experience: Wilson's is like paradise on Earth. Neither of us wanted to go home after our stay because it was such a beautiful calm experience! I cannot say enough of how wonderful our time was at Wilson's! I know for sure we will be back year after year. The Cabin: The cabin is rustic, but has everything you could really need. We stayed in Lakeside which had an awesome king sized bed, full kitchen and bath and a big living space and porch. The cabin sits step away from the water and the dock and had a great view of the mountains. The water pressure in the shower was also fantastic. We spent most of our time outside enjoying the fall weather, but we had everything we needed right in the cabin! The Staff: Just so amazing and kind. We felt so welcomed right from the beginning and they were around whenever we needed them. We also became buddies with the barn cat, Dylan. We LOVED him, and he was extremely friendly. But again everyone at Wilson's is so knowledge, kind, and friendly! The Location: Wilson's is located about a half hour away from the main Greenville area, but this honestly made it perfect! It's located on a little cove in the lake so the water was calm, even on a windy day, and it was SO QUIET and peaceful. Wilson's is also located right on the east outlet, so you got to hear the rushing water into the river and we got a great view from the dam!

Fantastic experience: If you are looking for luxury, Wilson’s is not for you, if you are looking for a great time with friendly folks, Wilson’s is The Best Place to be!!! I’ve been coming here for years and I’ll keep coming back !!!

Fantastic experience: Amazing cabin experience!!! stayed for a week and enjoyed every second of it. I also took some of their guided tours on Both the East and West outlet and they were worth every penny. I will be a reoccurring customer!!!

Negative experience: I hate writing this as the owners were very nice but they really need to put some work into the cabins. First the positives, nice owners, and gorgeous location. However, when we checked in we found smelly linens and lots of trash in the sofa bed. Also calling it a sofa bed is a stretch. It’s more comfortable to sleep outside on the ground in a tent. Born and raised in Maine I don’t mind rustic or roughing it but at the price we paid for a week I shouldn’t be grossed out by the conditions of the cabin. The cabin had tons of holes in the exterior allowing for a bat to fly in on one of our last nights. Needless to say we ended our stay early.

Negative experience: Do not stay here.

Fantastic experience: We have been renting various cabins at Wilsons for years and highly recommend planning a vacation here. We have also stayed here at various times of the year. The property and location are equally as spectacular in the Winter as it is in the Summer. The owners are a local family and among the nicest people in the area. And equally as important, they know the area extremely well. No matter what you want kind of outdoor activity you want to do, they will give you great advice on the best way to do it. We also think the people that typically stay at Wilsons are among the friendliest people you will ever meet in the area. However, if you want to do your own thing, in a respectful way, nobody is going to bother you here. As far as we are concerned, nothing else matters. And in our opinion, from having just spent another week here, this kind of authentic Maine experience is getting more and more difficult to find. Fantastic experience: Definitely a favorite spot. Right on the lake with fantastic views and right on the trails too. We try to get here at least once a year. The owners and other vacationers here are always really really friendly.

Fantastic experience: Scott and Alison are the best! We come up every year and it feels like home. I love being so close to the water and the private location provides a calm environment for paddle boarding fishing and kids swimming. Best location on the lake. Everyone is so friendly.there’s a lot to do without even leaving. Hiking, campfires, swimming, fish. We come up from north jersey and if you are looking for true Maine camping. Wilson’s is the place. Can’t wait to come back

Negative experience: It is clear that this was once a wonderful compound for family summer vacations and continues to have a cult-following. But folks really should take a hard look at the bifurcated reviews, especially from first-time guests AND the former owners. Unfortunately, the property is falling into disrepair which is such a shame considering the friendly owners and beautiful location. Many dilapidated buildings and structural issues with the cabins. We found trash in our cabin upon arriving (actually, our puppy did, which was scary) including socks, candy wrappers, and a razor in the shower. No locks on any doors and we could not turn off the heater in our cabin despite it being mid-August. We left a day early, preferring to tent-camp. Really hope some investments can be made in repairs and cleanliness.

Negative experience: I was to be part of a group of fishermen using two cabins and doing a total of 4 float trips with their guides in September of 2020. Due to Covid travel restrictions and everyone's concerns for their health in close cabin quarters- we rescheduled to this coming September, 2021. When a group leader called to confirm our stay , possibly with fewer participants due to Covid variant, he was informed that we had lost all of our $2700.00 in deposits for the cabins and float trips. If we wanted to rebook we would have to pay full charges again for guiding and lodging. Scott at Wilson's denied that there were any State travel restrictions for out of staters in place in September of 2020. he flatly said our money was gone. This is beyond reason and belief! I would recommend that anyone even considering a Maine based fishing trip find a more reputable lodge and guides to work with!

Fantastic experience: First time to Maine, OMG - what beautiful views right from our cabin doors. When two guides meet its like two matadors eyeing down a bull, but man Scott and I hit it off. I hired him to take us on a float trip, I'm not a fly guy, but by the end of this adventure I could certainly hold my own, Scott taught me a lot and I shared a few tid bits with him as well. Yea ! the cabins are rustic, and we loved them. If you want glitz stay in a hilton! This is Maine at its finest-a throw back to yesteryear where you forget all your troubles and just enjoy the beauty of what surrounds you. People who complain about unlevel ground should stay away, heck you should probably just stay inside and watch national geographic where its safe. The host where , like I said, just great! Like we already knew them. We introduced them to E-bikes and I see them in their very near future. And Scott introduced me to some kind of elixir the night before the drive home. This was a awesome trip that I would take regularly if it was not for that horrible drive thru Connecticut and Mass.

Positive experience: The cabins are right on the lake so offer fine views. Short walk to the river for fishermen. Friendly owners. The cabins and camp are very basic and could use some maintenance.

Fantastic experience: Well worth the drive from Upstate New York. There's not one complaint I could say. The cabins perfect, locations great, good groups of people staying to chat with and a RIVER FULL OF SALMOM. Thank you Scott and your family for hosting us! We will definitely be back for sure next year but on a drift boat lol. Highly recommend staying here had one of the most memorable weekends of my life.

Fantastic experience: An outstanding family owned and operated 4-season, pet friendly, retreat on beautiful Moosehead Lake. The oldest continously operated sporting camp in Maine! I love this place for many reasons! The host's are the Best and you can see how hard they work to keep everything looking and functioning perfectly. The view is second to none! The wading and drift boat trout and salmon fishing on the adjacent East outlet is as good as it gets! One owner is a Master Maine Guide and does multiple drift boat fishing trips daily during the open season. Large diversity in their ultra-classic & comfortable cabin selection to fit just about any group size. During the hunting season they shift gears to accommodate hunters for incredible upland game bird, deer and moose hunting opportunities. It's also a great place just to get away, relax and not do anything! Coming here in the wiinter time ice fishing and snowmobiling is a treat! It's been a special destination over the years for my friends and family. My wife and I highly recommend!!!

Negative experience: We chose this place for its location directly on Moosehead Lake. In that respect, it exceeded our expectations but the accommodations were a lot more rugged than we expected. Judging by the reviews, fishermen and other outdoor-minded folks have no issue with mice, primitive bathrooms and some serious exterior disrepair. My wife and I did and shared our concerns with the owners directly with no response. As several other reviewers have mentioned, the mouse problem at Wilson’s is truly epic. The friendly camp cat proudly showed off one of her kills but we saw at least three other mice in our cabin and didn’t enjoy cleaning their poop off the kitchen counter. If I were camping with buddies, this place would be ok but the Honeymoon Cottage didn’t exactly live up to its name and the leaning fireplace looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen. If you’re looking for something other than basic accommodations, I’d suggest staying elsewhere.

Negative experience: PLEASE READ this review before booking. Please also know that we tried to work with the owners and they refused to give a partial refund for our stay even with all of the issues we had. We really did want to avoid leaving negative reviews, contacting the Chamber of Commerce and health department but they expressed zero concern or consideration even though one of our issues was very dangerous, especially with children in the cabin. Our family rented the 4 bedroom cabin for 4 day in August of 2020. To start the lake location is actually very nice, they have a great view from the dock. Scott and Allison were both friendly throughout our stay. That is the positive. You drive in and there are a number of falling down sheds and structures but we can look past that, however, our cabin was another issue. The front door knob was broken and didn't function properly, the front door also didn't fit properly so it wouldn't open all the way. MICE MICE MICE...you can expect to meet up with little critters when staying in a cabin but these mice were clearly taking over and had become almost domestic. They had no problem crawling all over your food you had just prepared while you were standing right there. We threw a number of meals during our stay due to these little rodents. The biggest issue I saved for last...there were two electrical outlets in the upstairs bedroom that were broken and open exposed metal was showing. This was a big hazard and had one of our children touched this it could have caused serious harm. I contacted the owners once we left requesting a partial credit for our stay since it was definitely false advertising and they felt no desire to try and rectify the situation. I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially if you have children. Safety does not appear to be a concern. We have been staying in the Moosehead area for years and had wonderful stays in all the other locations.

Fantastic experience: We like it here. Stayed in a few different cabins. Froze our butts off when we went in the winter but going in the summer is always nice.

Negative experience: Save your money. There are an enormous amount of camps for rent on Moosehead Lake with a guide service for the same money. I'm sad to have to say these camps are run down, beds are horrible, camps are dirty and the mice are abundant. I even tried keeping ALL of our food in the refrigerator and they still came into the camp every night. The dogs running loose on the property is the least of the issues this property has.

Negative experience: When first arriving, this location seemed junky and unkept. Broken down boats, abandoned RV's with tree limbs on top, broken down snowmobiles and ATVs. When we asked for a key to our cabin, they advised they don't lock them. The cabin was 4 bedrooms which was dirty with old mix matched dirty furniture. The bathroom door would not shut nor lock. There was a ripped and stained loveseat on our porch missing cushions. The owners dog got into our cabin while we were out for the day, got into the trash, ate food off of the table and the counters and left a huge mess. When brought to their attention, they didn't even offer a discount or credit....just a "sorry". This place is a complete dump. Definitely NOT a vacation spot! Only good for hunters...I would NEVER recommend this location! Save your time and your money!!!!

Fantastic experience: Look no further for an outfitter! My father and I had a great day floating the kennebec with the one and only Scott from Wilson’s. From the moment I called to book our trip I was met with friendly professional staff. On our arrival Scott greeted us as we were family and with a genuine enthusiasm to get out and on some fish. Scott’s true love and passion for his craft makes for an unbelievably experience. He will get you on the fish! Thank you Scott for your hospitality and a day to remember. I’ll see you this fall!

Fantastic experience: Nice people ,it's a quiet place, we will come back

Negative experience: Be careful if you put a deposit down for a unit. I did 6 months ago and had to cancel due to health issues. They can't seem to credit my CC. But bank says no reason the can't. Their policy is t0% down and you can cancel 30 days ahead with deposit back minus 50 dollars. I canceled in March 4 months before my arrival. Can't get people to return call then I finally get thru and told bookkeeper been sick. Then get email saying check mailed then check lost would reissue new one. Then mail delay. Its been 2 months and nothing. Beware!

Fantastic experience: Beautiful view, great place for the whole family. Very friendly owners, very rustic which made me fall more in love with the place. Every thing we need was either in the cabin or the owners helped with. Loved the fire place in the katahdin cabin. Would recommend and will be back next year.

Positive experience: The staff was super friendly. I went up in November which you'd think was off season but people were there hunting and fishing. I enjoyed the hottub. It was cool to bring my dog and tha t was great. Had a windstorm that knocked our the power one night, but even without the power I cooked a stew on the gas stove no problem. I want to go back.

Fantastic experience: The cottages are rustic but nice. The view is amazing and the owners are very helpful. Scott is an amazing guide. Highly recommend a trip with him or his son Colby. Very helpful even with beginners.

Fantastic experience: I love it here. I come here every year in August with me and the men in the family. We have a great week with a beautiful lake view, an amazing lake to go kyacking in, and the smallmouth bass catching experience. It is great to get away from Long Island, to go up to the most beautiful, quiet, lakes and mountains in Maine, and to stay on one of those lakes is great. And if you want to get away to the most beautiful place In the world than go to Wilsons on Moosehead Lake.

Negative experience: These are not housekeeping cottages as advertised. This is a hunting/fishing camp, as the owner told us when we asked for a refund. The "cottages" are not well maintained. They have no door locks. Sheets were dirty, place smelled like dead animals, and mice shared our quarters for the week. We asked to get a refund for our week's stay but were told that wasn't possible. We took our two small dogs with us and followed the rules of keeping them on leashes and scooping the poop. However, the owners' four dogs roamed and pooped freely throughout the camp and nothing was picked up. The place may be good for hunters and fishermen, but it was not suitable as a getaway for a couple.

Fantastic experience: Great place to stay! Have been going here for 13 yrs and will continue to keep coming. A group of us go up every year and Scott and Allison couldn't be better a better host, owner, and friend. What ever you needed they were on top of it. Accommodations were great....you get the whole Maine outdoor experience when you stay at the Wilsons. Scott is an excellent guide and has always showed us the good spots for catching fish and has never failed. Many of my friends as well stay here with their families and have heard nothing but great things and stories they had staying here. If your going to Moosehead I would recommend staying here over any other.
