Fantastic experience: My experience with Aquatic Obsessions was phenomenal. I met Bill one day by chance, and being the friendly and welcoming person he is, he struck up a conversation with me after noticing I was wearing a military-related shirt. He shared an incredible opportunity through the nonprofit they run called Dive Care, which helps veterans get scuba certified. Without hesitation, I took him up on the offer and went through the open water certification program. What I truly love and appreciate is how they not only provide that initial opportunity for veterans, but also offer continued courses and advancement options so we can keep growing, learning, and developing new skills. Thanks to Dive Care and the amazing team at Aquatic Obsessions, I was able to reconnect with a sense of community and purpose which is something veterans often miss and struggle to find after service. I immediately asked Bill if I could refer a good buddy of mine, who’s also a veteran, and without hesitation, he welcomed him with open arms. I’m extremely grateful for everything they do for veterans because it does make a difference. Again, thank you to the entire team for everything you do!

Fantastic experience: Great experience, the instructors were knowledgeable and able to work with a variety of students across many ages. They provided us with plenty of good information tips and strategies for successful diving. The river trip was really cool too, lots of neat wildlife.

Fantastic experience: I went to several dive shops inquiring about getting certified. I ended up choosing AO because Liz was extremely helpful and eased my fears and anxiety. Fantastic experience: From the first day I walked into the Aquatic Obsessions shop I was impressed. The first person I met was Evan, he walked me through the step-by-step process of What’s involved as a beginner . He was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable .I signed up for the introductory certification course and had Henry as my instructor Henry is a middle school teacher and it is evident that he is a natural teacher. He is very knowledgeable, but is also very patient. I can’t say enough about how enjoyable the whole process was.

AO has some very experienced staff, but they were still happy to help newbs like myself learn the ropes. They also offer a discount for scuba students so you can save some money on gear. Bill has been diving for decades and has an extensive wealth of knowledge about the sport. He takes his time to answer any questions you have. Great shop to visit, you will not be disappointed.

Fantastic experience: Scuba and spear fishing have been on my bucket list. I was so glad to have been referred to AO dive. From the moment I walked in Liz was amazingly courteous walking me through the steps to get certified. She was patient and informative while helping me pick out my gear (10% off for students). I was pleased to find out she likes to spearfish also and would be the instructor for my dives. I did my in-class lecture and initial pool session with Henry and Brad. Both great guys who were extremely knowledgeable and patient. The owner Bill is an avid spear fisher as well as many of the clients that come to the shop. They have cultivated a community of like-minded individuals and have monthly meetings for all who are interested in scuba and spearfishing. I am looking forward to becoming part of this community. Negative experience: Owner is a special experience. You won't get a word in and he will talk down to you and talk over you. Other shops have far better instructors. The fossil guy knows his stuff.

Fantastic experience: My buddy and I visited a few scuba shops before signing up with AO. Liz’s expertise in diving and choosing the right equipment (no sales pressure) was impressive. We did our initial training in the pool with Liz and the final dives in Rainbow River with Henry who’s also a dive instructor and an expert. Henry’s method of teaching was great and he was very informative and patient with the group. The whole experience was very safe and they taught us well.

Fantastic experience: I recently traveled down to to St. Pete on the recommendation of family to get my open water certification with AO. The staff and owner, Bill, were extremely helpful and accommodating as I was coming from out of town. Liz, my instructor, was very knowledgeable and easy to work with. Weather issues almost caused my whole trip to be cancelled but AO worked to make sure that I would be able to get my certification despite the weather issues and I was extremely grateful. I would recommend them to any friend or family member and will certainly be diving with them in the future!

Negative experience: This shop used to be good. Now it’s not. None of the employees know anything about what they’re selling. Very unorganized process, very frustrating experience. Jim’s dive shop is a little drive away but worth it for great help and lower prices.

Fantastic experience: We are a family of 4 that took the open water dive course. My husband has been certified for years but decided to take a the refresher so we could all do it together. Henry was our dive instructor. I cannot begin to tell you how great he was with each of us. He recognized right away that I was anxious. Henry was very understanding, patient and reassuring. He really made all the difference in my dive experience! He was great with our teenagers aged 15 and 17 as well.They loved every minute of it and can not wait for the next dive.

Negative experience: Getting certified at this ship was a waste of time and money. You spend only a couple of hours training in a pool for one single day before going to a spring. Bill Jackson’s trains you in the water every other class. The guys running the class are rude.

Fantastic experience: My wife and I had an incredible experience at this shop today. We came in about an hour before closing time and even though Bill was busy working on a project he took about 45 minutes to walk us through the pros and cons of everything we were looking for. Even though I dropped some coin I walked out of there feeling great and with greater knowledge and understanding than I went in there with. This is now our go to dive shop any time we’re in the area. Excellent customer service and excellent selection of dive gear.

Fantastic experience: Just finished the open water certification and had a wonderful experience. The instructors were fun and very skilled at what they do. I always felt like safety was the #1 priority which was important to me. Most important is that they take their time with you to learn the safety skills you need. I went in feeling nervous because Im kinda out of shape and didn't consider myself to be a strong swimmer compared to others but with the right gear I did just fine. Im so glad I chose this dive shop to get certified.

Fantastic experience: Had the opportunity to do 2 trips with Henry Sadler to Rainbow River. I completed my Open Water certification dives with Henry and then my wife completed her Open dives with Henry 2 months apart. He’s a fantastic instructor with a wealth of knowledge and makes sure you’re not only safe but enjoying your dives. If you get the opportunity to take a class with Henry you’ll learn a lot but enjoy yourself completely!

Negative experience: I called Aquatic Obsessions in advance of a long vacation and made arrangements to take classes to become open water certified. They advised me to take the on line class and when I arrived they would give me the classes. So I paid the $109 and completed the on line class prior to arriving in St. Pete. Upon arrival I called to set up classes and was told an instructor would call me back. I waited 3 days without hearing anything so I called back. Once again I was told an instructor would call me and set it up. After 2 more days I personally drove to AO and went in. The girl working there was nice and took my name and number and once again I was told I would be contacted. Again NOTHING! Another phone call, NOTHING! I finally drove to AO again and the same nice girl took my number again. I explained in more than 2 weeks they had not contacted me. She told me the same thing again. I finally called SDI and complained. They were very responsive and immediately transferred my on line test results to another dive shop they recommended (the test results go to a particular shop and you as a student cannot forward them to another shop yourself). My experience with the alternate shop could not have been better! They will be getting all my business in the future. I would not recommend Aquatic Obsessions to ANYONE under ANY circumstances

Fantastic experience: Had some trouble with a bent flopper on my spear. Bill went above and beyond helping me fix it. Tank fills always on point as well. Great people and great service!

Fantastic experience: We threw our international phone numbers and our restricted availability at them and they still made it work. Fantastic experience: Just finished my Open Water Scuba Diver certification with Aquatic Obsessions and my experience was great! Captain Bill and the two Divemasters, Adrienne and Jen, were extremely knowledgeable and helpful before and during the five dives at rainbow river. Bill even offered to give me a ride so I didn't have to make the trip alone! Additionally, Bill guarantees the best prices and will allow his costumers to look competitors prices up on one of the computers in the store. Aquatic Obsessions also organizes really cool diving trips around Florida or even around the world. Aquatic Obsessions is a great place to shop, get certifications, and sign up for some amazing dive trips!

Fantastic experience: Did open water scuba classes with Bill and Henry. What a wonderful time we had. Scuba diving is stressful learning but with the knowelagable professionals at Ao I really felt safe and comfortable in the water. Awesome teaching from both instructors. Went to Rainbow river for 4 dives to get certification. Beautiful place and again learned a lot. I bought a lot of equitment from Bill. During my dive my BCD inflator house cracked ( honestly due to me crushing it on the tank laying it down most likely) Bill replaced it for free and said don’t worry about it. What a great guy for doing that! They stand behind there products and training. I will be coming back for other classes soon. A++++ place.

Fantastic experience: Came in from out of town today… Looking around at their amazing spearfishing selection and noticed an item that I’ve been searching for for quite some time although it’s a large item it was definitely fair priced… That being said as I did not want to purchase a checked bag for the flight home asked about shipping and the dive shop stated they would take care of me packaged it up and made a wonderful sale ....this place did not care if I was out of town or a local or anything just treated me perfectly and amazing will definitely be back here for sure.

Positive experience: My two kids completed the “Open Water” dive class with Morgan as the instructor. I was very satisfied with all aspects of the class and the open water dives. Good instruction with friendly personalities. I recommend this class to all that are looking for an opinion.

Fantastic experience: I couldn’t have been more happy I chose AO as my dive shop! When I came to AO I was very nervous about learning how to dive but wanted to try it, I asked a million questions from day one. Morgan was my instructor and she was so patient with me and answered every question I had and more. In the pool I was so nervous and she just made the environment we were in very light and fun, when we went to do our check out dives...inside I wasn’t sure if I could do it, with her guidance and patience I ended up having one of the best weekends ever and I was so happy I ended up going and I already booked my first dive weekend. Fantastic experience: I'm a new diver and I needed some help with new gear before I dive. They were very helpful and got me the hose I was missing. The shop is very big and well organized. I will be returning.

Negative experience: Got my PDIC cert here years ago. Half a year after that I was taken on my first open water dive off of the keys. We were 30 deep on a 30 person max dive boat in 6-8 foot swell with high speed currents. Many of the younger divers whom had never gome off a boat (including me) were hurried off into the torrent. Needless to say the boat captain spent the better part of an hour and a half recovering divers from a couple square mile area. I myself was almost knocked out by the ladder upon reentry as it was swinging 4 feet totally out of the water. I have not been back since. They knew better than to put people in that water and would not refund for the following day.

Fantastic experience: Great dive shop! I trust the expertise over any other shop in pinellas. Great dive classes,where I have learned advanced skills. They give advice on what equipment will work for you, not what they're just trying to sell.

Negative experience: I go here about two or three times a year because the dive shop I normally go to isn't open Sundays and they also didn't service my old Oceanic regulator. 90% of the time I leave thinking, "Why do I come here?" Ive come to expect that most dive shops staff really want you to know how much more knowledgaeble and experienced they are than you are, so unlike most stores, you do walk into most dive shops prepared to be schooled. But these guys are outright pretentious and rude. If you even get acknowledged at all its shocking. The young kids are as helpful as they can be. But the older longer term staff are just obnoxious. The last time I went in there to drop of tanks one of them was standing at the counter with his blue tooth in and talking while he was playing with something at the counter. I couldn't tell he was on the phone so greeted him and he looked at me an walked away talking. after about 5 minutes he came walking out of the back room, looked at me at me and said "Last Name?" (that was my greeting) I told him, he continued talking to someone on his blue tooth. opened a binder, tore out my return receipt, handed it to me and walked away. The time I was in there previously I was returning my regulator that they had rebuilt, after one dive it was leaking in multiple places. When I brought it in he told me it was really too old to rebuild. (something he didn't mention when he took my money to rebuild it) Needless to say I went back to my regular dive shop to buy a new one. I dive about 15-20 times a year, I've only been diving for about 6 years. I don't know a lot, and I expect that the shop is going to know more than me and share that knowledge with me. I'm teachable. Maybe as a customer I am asking a lot, but I expect to be treated with a bit of respect simply because I chose to do business with you.

Fantastic experience: Took an open water course through AO Dive with instructor Terry Browe. Anything I needed help with, he had an answer for. He is very knowledgeable with regards to all things scuba, and I highly recommend the course. Furthermore, Terry went above and beyond. I was staying about an hour away from the dive shop and couldn't make it to the shop in time to grab my gear for the weekend dives, so he got it all checked out for me. He met me at the dive site and gave me the gear there, which took about two hours off the travel time for the dive. All the other divemasters and instructors I got to work with (Henry, Tanya, and Bill) were very helpful, efficient, and friendly. Next time I'm in the area, I'm going to dive with AO.

Fantastic experience: I recently took my first dive course here. Rick was our main instructor and didn't disappoint. He was very knowledgeable which made me feel comfortable as I had no previous diving experience. He kept the class safe, comfortable, and fun. I look forward to diving more in the future and will be returning to AO for the gear to make that happen!

Fantastic experience: Took a basic open water dive class though the shop with instructor Rich Cochrane. The set up for the course was great with the online material to go through at your leisure. Pool session was great as well as the 2 open water dives. One dive was Rainbow River and we got to dive the Blue Gratto on the second one. I highly recommend anyone looking to dive to take this course. Rick and the dive masters he had with him explained everything well and were easy to work and get along with.

Fantastic experience: I went on a dive trip to the FL Keys with a group from AO after completing my NITROX certification online through their shop. Bill and staff are experienced and accomplished in their specialties. The shop is open seven days a week and offer to meet or beat any legitimate internet or competitor's price. They offer professional quality products like Ocean Rhino spearguns and service what they sell. Aquatic Obsessions is all you need to remember for underwater training and supplies.
