Western Spirit Cycling

Positive experience: I did quite a bit of research and asked a lot of questions prior to going on this trip with my 10 year old son and girlfriend. It was advertised as a family trip and the trail was considered easy and the park allowed for pedal assist bikes There was 12 of us in the group, not including the two guides Colin and Riley, crammed into a van that had no windows that opened up. My girlfriend and I and my 10-year-old son were instructed to go to sit in the back of the van…we got there a little late and we were stuck in the last row the entire five days. Not once did anyone offer to rotate with us. Of the 12 riders, our group of three were the only ones that had pedal bikes. The other nine writers had regular pedal bikes. This turned out to be very disappointing, frustrating and problematic for everyone involved, including us three. It was a lot of uphills as well as downhills. There was an older couple with a special needs child, another two middle aged couple. The Hills were so big there’s no way they could make it up there in a pedal bike. We all discussed it and they said that WSC never offered them an E bike and they just told them that they don’t have those available What they should’ve done is instruct them to rent a e bike in town. For the first two days, the majority of the group rode in the van due to the uphill climbs. I just can’t understand how this organization would allow people on this journey without a pedal assist bike. It was not only miserable for them, but it was also not pleasant for us. Every time we started to ride we got to the regroup point very fast and we waited over 40 minutes for everybody to catch up. We even was backtracking back-and-forth just to keep riding and stay busy. The third day started with a 4 mile downhill. Followed by a 1 mile uphill and then another 9 mile downhill Colin, who was the senior of the two guides was really unaccommodating the entire week. Instead of letting the group ride together for 4 miles and then hop in the van for the 1 mile up, he insisted that they just drive straight to the second half of that day trip because he did not want to unload the bikes and load them back in the van. It was another long section of 7 miles downhill that he didn’t want to stop beforehand and literally everybody went down the most amazing 7 mile downhill section in the van. I felt he was being lazy and completely unaccommodating Not just with the loading and unloading of the bikes for the people who didn’t have an E bike, but also throughout the week. I even felt he was scolding us at times and treating us like children. On day four my son slept in until 8:05 AM and asked Riley if she could heat up some water so he can have hot cocoa or ramen. He missed breakfast that usually started at 7:15 because he was up the night before and already had ridden over 50 miles. She was about to heat it up and then Colin said it’s too late for that because everything is being taken down. My son cried all morning Hungry. How rude! Seriously how hard is it to just boil a little cup of water for my kid? It can’t take more than 10 minutes. This is just one example of his attitude the entire trip and I would never recommend anyone take a trip where he is the guide. Riley, and the other hand, went above and beyond what I would have expected. She was helpful and always went th extra mile to make sure my son was ok and having fun. She even went down to the lake to help my son find the tiny rod cap to his fishing pole. It fell off with the handle. It was the size of a dime and she walks the entire area with my son until she found it. Because of that, my son got to keep fishing the rest of the trip. When Colin found out she was down there. He was just getting ready to yell out and tell her to come back right before we found it. I think I would give this experience two stars but the reason I gave it 3 is because I thought the food was really good. I credit both Colin and Riley for that.

Fantastic experience: We did the Hot Springs mountain biking tour in Idaho. If you enjoy natural hot springs and cooling off in rivers I highly recommend this adventure tour. Our guides were impressive especially given all the work their jobs entail. They were up early preparing breakfast and then alternately riding or driving to our next meet up. They spoiled us with all the food they prepared. I actually accused them of having gone to culinary school. They made the trip a great experience for all of us and were very attentive to our needs. We are already looking into our next Western Spirit adventure.

Fantastic experience: 09-Aug 2025: Looks like I can't leave a second review for the same company on here, but I just got back from another trip, so updating the review with some notes from it! (Another 5/5) Just made my way back to the east coast after a Black Hills of South Dakota Singletrack trip with Western Spirit! As per usual, the trip, food, and guides were all outstanding! Having Trey (again!) and Spencer, I was wondering if the food would be the same or different from the other trip with Trey just a few months ago - there were some classics, but much of it was switched up! I'm really impressed by the variety offered, and by the attention to detail from both Trey and Spencer - fantastic guides! The sites were all really nice, and all had easy access to water! (Sure, the first night *may* have looked like we were way up above the water and not worth walking to, but I can assure you, it was less than a five minute walk, and wonderfully clear, crisp water). Many of the trails through meadows were filled in nicely with wildflowers, creating a super scenic ride! The trails in general weren't too technical, though there were a few punchy sections and fun descents to be found. :) I'd definitely recommend a trip with Western Spirit, and would recommend this particular trip for someone who wants an adventurous bike vacation in South Dakota! As a bonus - at least at the end of July, there are a whole bunch of wild raspberries across the creek from night 2's campsite! _____________________________________________________ Just got back from a great week on the Kokopelli Singletrack trip! Perhaps I was a little overambitious booking this for so early in the season coming off of ski legs, but the trip was phenomenal. Amazing food, fantastic trails, great guides (Trey, Luke, Riley), and the campsites were top notch. Can't say enough great things about this trip!

Fantastic experience: Our ride in Idaho was excellent. Great start getting out of town and after that we were on back roads the entire time. Our guides were fantastic and created an environment where everyone felt capable and included. The food was amazing! Can’t believe what they did with the limited resources. I thought the hot springs were a little over sold- but it was pretty warm and the hot water wasn’t very appealing at the end of the day for me. The ride more than made up for it. We loved our trip and will absolutely be back for another one!

Fantastic experience: Another amazing trip!! Our guides, Trey Tugwell and Spencer Otis went above and beyond to make every moment of our trip a moment to remember. Amazing food!! Great company. One of the many memories was the night it rained right after we finished dinner, we all retreated to our tents. Trey and Spencer hand delivered our dessert to each tent through the rain!!!! Fun, relaxing, challenging, great company, perfect combination.

Fantastic experience: Matt and Mark did a great job of managing a group of out of shape "has beens" and we got to see, feel great scenery as we rode through it. Our lodging and meals were fantastic. Pushing up the climbs and flying down the descents was phenomenal and all through variable beauty. This all with our Boba buddies

Fantastic experience: I just finished my first trip with Western Spirit and it definitely won’t be my last. I did Oakridge , OR where the trails were single track and mostly downhill. The trails were perfect and super fun. My friend and I signed up as first timers where the rest of the group had been on at least 5 each. That is where I knew from the beginning that this was going to be a great trip. The guides were amazing (Katie and Chris). The food was made with fresh ingredients and they used a lot of organic products. Every meal was 5 stars!! I can’t believe I ate that good while camping! Overall, this was a fantastic trip and there is no doubt I will do it again!

Fantastic experience: I just finished riding Idaho Hot Springs trip with 3 of our sons and 8 others we didn't know before, but have become friends with over the days. It is an amazing trip with stunning views, wonderful hot springs bathing, great guides, good food and excellent support. It is a beautiful place and a bike is a very special way to enjoy it.

Fantastic experience: I rode the Colorado trail singletrack this July 2025 with Western Spirit. I cant recommend them enough! Everything was beyond expectations: guides were outstanding (so helpful, knowledgeable, professional and fun!); food was so delicious, the route was beautiful, vehicle support and logistics were seamless. Western Spirit is the best!

Fantastic experience: Our tour of OakRidge was magical. Katie and Chris did everything to make it an amazing experience. From the moment we wake up to the hot coffee and breakfast until the time we go to bed, they are tirelessly working to make our time memorable. I hope they enjoyed our company as much as we did theirs. I look forward to doing another tour with Western Spirits.

Fantastic experience: Awesome adventure on the Western Spirits Oakridge Mountian Bike trip. The guides Chris and Katie were outstanding, their cooking was 5 star and the service was even better. This was my 4th Western Spirit Mountain Biking adventure and i will be back again.

Fantastic experience: The North Rim 5-day trip was perfect in every way. The itinerary was well curated so one can enjoy the riding as well as the beautiful scenery. Our two guides, Shane & Taylor, were phenomenal. Not only that they took care of all the details related to the ride, they are also awesome cook. My gosh, we were fed like kings while chilling out at these unbelievable camp sites. It was good for the body and even better for the soul.

Fantastic experience: The South Dakota Black Hills bike trip was really amazing! Even though I didn't always like the bike trails we took, the scenery was spectacular and the other guests were great to travel with. Western Spirit picked out wonderful spots for camping. Best of all, the guides were super friendly and helpful, they cooked excellent, healthy meals and in general spoiled us. Would definitely recommend a trip with them!

Fantastic experience: We just finished the North Rims trip with Western Spirit! We had high expectations, based on reviews from frequent past guests, but we were still blown away by the experience. The combination of remoteness, camping, off-the-grid, well designed routes along with the exceptional all-in service from our guides Katie and Taylor made for a fantastic experience. We had a wonderful group of guests as well, which seems to be a common theme across WS trips. Highly recommend!!

Fantastic experience: We recently went on a mountain bike trip from Bryce NP to Zion with Western Spirit. It was a fabulous trip offering adventure and challenges making the trip full of great memories. We met great people and became friends. Our guides, Kyra, Luke and Lewis were extremely knowledgeable and provided a trip full of fun and delicious meals. This is the second trip for me with Western Spirit and would highly recommend them for your next adventure.

Not to mention they were amazing Chefs! The routes chosen were challenging and super fun! (Our itinerary had to be changed somewhat due to a wildfire that popped up- our Guides handled it with professionalism and great concern for the safety of all.) Fantastic experience: Just finished the Grand Canyon North Rim trip. Super-fun time with mega views, great company, and amazing guides.

Fantastic experience: North Rim -- A fantastic mix of Grand Canyon views from North & East rim with alpine meadows. Two superb camp sites for 4 days camping, meant that we only had to set up and break camp twice which was nice. There are a few very short sections that are technical and can be easily walked if needed. Food was great. The elevation is high, though, and if you don't acclimatize quickly (I don't) you'll be surprised how winded you can still be on day 5 -- just take it easy. "Start slow, and taper off".

We had a small group of riders (only four, thanks Western Spirit!) and a well-organized, congenial, very professional set of guides who took good care of us. Thanks, Frankie, Shane and Taylor! I especially appreciate how solicitous they were of this 71 year old with not a lot of mountain biking experience. The food was always interesting and well presented, and I cannot imagine how I could have had a better time.

Fantastic experience: Another wonderful trip with Western Spirit, our favorite bike tour guides. This trip we rode the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. A super-fun trip - beautiful landscapes, superb food, camaraderie on and off the trail, interesting people and our guides were fun and able to roll with the punches as we navigated a wet week on the Kaibab Plateau. We’ll be back for more adventures.

Fantastic experience: I recently did Western Spirit's 5-Day Telluride to Moab trip. It was super scenic, the guides were fantastic, and the food was awesome! The only thing I'd change is to do the 6-day version of the trip instead. That way, there's more time to enjoy everything, and more time to adjust if the weather throws some curveballs (which it did). All in all, Western Spirit is a great company and does an outstanding job on it's trips.

Fantastic experience: San Rafael Swell was my fourth trip with Western Spirit. Consistently great! The route locations are spectacular, camping locations great, and the food is so much better than I might expect. I've "stolen" a few recipes. Even the groover location offers wonderful views! Most importantly the staff. They are always happy, always supportive, and genuinely in the service of the clients. They work from sunup, preparing our coffee, then breakfast, to sundown, when they bring us dessert. Even a birthday cake once for my wife. They are always working, and they make our trip hassle-free and completely wonderful. I'll continue to rely on Western Spirit for my group trips - we all love them and keep coming back. Oh, and a great value for the money.

Fantastic experience: Great trip except for rain! Who would have thought 4 out of 5 days of rain on the North Rim of Grd Canyon, but we had a great time and got in some good rides most every day between the showers. Frank and Chris are fantastic guides and cooks: good people, good stories, good mechanics. And, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is a phantasmagorical place to go

Fantastic experience: omg - love wsc. Did a trip with my kids (7 and 11) and it was actually like being on a vacation because they had guides that took the kids on little hikes/nature walks while the adults had happy hour. The guides were all so knowledgeable about riding and the environs, and so friendly. It's a perfect trip. We biked through gorgeous places (did the White Rim and the Grand Teton trips). I felt challenged and also found time to relax, meet some cool people and have some family time. I can't think of a more ideal vacation. I'll definitely be back!

Positive experience: Despite the incessant rain and wind, my experience on this trip was beyond good. Our small group was compatible and flexible when the weather dictated changes in plans. Our guides were accommodating, personal, fun, and worked extremely hard to ensure that we had the best experience possible. Several times throughout the week we had to make alternate plans and all these occasions were handled with grace and our safety in mind. It was an unusual Western Spirit trip but one that will nudge me to sign up for another one in the future.

I debated renting an E-bike for several weeks before the trip, and Sean patiently helped me think about, answering my many questions. I ended up renting an E-bike and for me it was the right choice! The trip was challenging, -and we always had amazing support from our guides- Shane, Anna and training guide Lewis. At the same time the White Rim was incredibly beautiful, the trip gave us a great sense of accomplishment and was so much fun! I would highly recommend Western Spirit for a mountain bike adventure.

In spite of 4 days rain, hail, wind, and lightning, they worked their behinds off to keep the trip moving in a safe and fun manner. From 6am to well after dark, they did everything possible to keep us well fed, warm, and dry. They always had a positive, pleasant demeanor. Beyond amazing. I can't thank you all enough. Oh yea, the route through The Maze was definitely worth its placement on my "Bucket List."

From the morning coffee call and breakfast followed by the competent education and information on our daily routes and side hikes, we always knew what to expect before and after each re-grouping! Our guides made me feel safe and confident especially with my forever fear of heights! I was thoroughly impressed with the delicious meals, especially the time and effort that was put into the preparation of such fresh and well thought out menus! The organization, detail and enthusiasm was bar none and I know our entire group was in agreement! I will without a doubt recommend Western Spirit to anyone interested in this trip!!! Fantastic experience: A group of us recently road the White Rim Road with Western Spirit under the leadership of Anna and Shane. Louis was along on his first WS trip as a newly hired guide. What an orientation! Our guides were first rate! I so appreciated their competence and kindness navigating this group; they paid attention to everyone, every detail of the days; the meals were outstanding, nourishing and delighting us. They told us what to expect, went over the map of our route each day, debriefed with us and encouraged us through the difficult areas. I was prepared for heat, cold, gritty trail and sand but forgot about wind. When I reached near breaking point Anna pulled me back from the ledge in her understanding manner. Thank you for a wonderful time full of memories.

Fantastic experience: Grand Staircase and Escalante- What an awesome trip from start to finish! Our guides Avery and Chris were amazing. They worked tirelessly to ensure we had the best experience possible…riding on beautiful roads and trails, hiking to incredible vistas, sharing their vast knowledge about the geography of the area, preparing delicious meals for us, and joining us at the end of the day around the campfire. We look forward to our next trip with Western Spirit!

Fantastic experience: We had a fantastic trip! 4 days of rain at sometime of the day or night despite the fact that "it never rains in the desert!" Trey and Chris did a fantastic job of dealing with the weather challenges and adjusting the trip/camps as needed. The Maze is beautiful! So much more to to see! The food was fantastic! Brilliant job Trey and Chris! Every meal whether it was breakfast, lunch, dinner or desserts were all fantastic! We really enjoyed our trip! We highly recommend Western Spirit Cycling! Great job! Fantastic experience: The scenery on the Staircase trip was as wonderful as described. Chris and Avery as our guides were a well-organized and supportive team, as well as great backcountry cooks. I highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for super scenic gravel/easy mountain biking trip.

Fantastic experience: This is a tough one to review because Western Spirit has so many thoughtful details dialed in—you really have to experience one of their trips yourself to fully appreciate it. I’ve now done three guided trips with Western Spirit, and they’ve been 100% amazing every time. You know when you’re at a restaurant and the server is perfectly attentive—there when you need them but not hovering when you don’t? That’s Western Spirit in a nutshell. They’ve mastered the fundamentals: safety, education, and preparedness. But what really stands out is their kindness, passion, and genuine love for what they do. And the food! I could write a whole blog post about how incredible it is. Fresh, high-quality, and absolutely delicious—and you’ll never go hungry.

Fantastic experience: If you haven't done the White Rim, put it on your list. This was my 24+ ride with Western Spirit and my 5th White Rim trip. Western Spirit can't be beat. You'll love the White Rim.

Top notch communication and care, freshly prepared food, daily map and tech talks aka tips and tricks to ride on various elevations, grades and terrains. Many of the reviews talk about food because you don't expect a lot while camping - and we were truly spoiled with all the fresh fruit, snacks, freshly prepared meals, and even Dutch oven desserts! We had a group of varying experience and ages, and our guides ensured that everyone had the kind of support we needed. For my first ever bike trip, this was well-planned, and I'd love to do another trip with this company!

Fantastic experience: Such a fabulous trip to Grand Staircase Escalante with Western Spirit, not in small part due to our wonderful guides, Avery and Chris. Fantastic experience: Trey and Cullen were so enjoyable to be with. They worked hard for us and were amazing cooks. We couldn't believe the food quality that they produced from our campsite. We would ride with Western Spirit again.

Fantastic experience: This mountain biking trip of 4 days in White Rin with Western Spirit was epic and you guys made all the difference. Truly you guys rock!!! Your attention to every detail and providing all info and responses was superb since we booked the trip months earlier. I was a little worry about renting the bike since Im very petite but just minor adjustment by the guides and it worked perfectly and just right for the trail. Once on the trail our guides Matt and Frank were amazing from being the best guides, photographers, motivators, and five stars chefs all in one. Both were always in sync getting everything done in time and just perfect and through it all always had a smile and laugh to share with the whole group. Even though the group came from different places and background the Bobbs, Mary and Jeff, Luis and us five from Puerto Rico, Matt and Frank made us feel like a big family. Oh and the surprise bday cake for me the last night prepared by Frank (with the help of Matt of course) was the cherry on the top best cake ever delicious!! Thanks for going above and beyond in everything you did and making this experience so memorable it definitely exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be back for more mtb adventures and trips with you guys.

Fantastic experience: I just finished the Canyonlands Maze 5 day tour and it was truly an exceptional experience. The topography and remoteness are of a caliber that is rare to find anywhere in this country. In 5 days I think we saw fewer than 10 other people. The pre-trip communications including packing lists were timely and helpful. The real stars of the show though were our guides Cullen and Trey. These guys worked together day and night to keep our trip fun and organized. The meals they prepared in the backcountry were nothing short of remarkable! Their humor kept us laughing and their company on the bikes and around camp was truly an added amenity to our trip. I wish I could think of any service provider I deal with in “real life” that is as talented and skilled at their jobs as Trey and Cullen are at theirs. Our group is already talking about our next Western Spirit trip and we’ll definitely be requesting Trey and Cullen as our guides!

Fantastic experience: Had an absolutely amazing time with Western Spirit in Sun Valley and now I want to go on a Western Spirit trip every year! Everything about this trip was beyond expectations. But the stars of the trip were our incredible guides - Luke and Frank! They truly made it an unforgettable adventure!! Stop looking for another mtb trip operator - Western Spirit is the way to go!!

Fantastic experience: We took our kids ages 9, 11, and 13 on the Gravelly/Yellowstone trip. It was an amazing opportunity to unplug, be present, and make unforgettable memories. We saw so much beauty, and all of my kids enjoyed the biking. They achieved things on their bikes they thought weren’t possible, and I saw them grow a lot over the week. At the same time, having the van close by kept things fun for everyone in case people needed a break. There was plenty of time to play and explore off the bikes, and snacks were ALWAYS available for kids and adults. The meals each day were so delicious with the most fresh and high quality ingredients. It was a true vacation for me to be able to play outdoors all day without worrying about the cooking. Our family really enjoyed the chance to meet and bond with the other two families. The kids got along great and we were sad to say goodbye. Lastly, and most importantly, our guides, Claire and Garrett, were absolutely top-notch. They were knowledgeable, kind, smart, safe, stellar bikers, good drivers, excellent chefs, and were really fun to be around. My daughter said the guides were her favorite part of the trip. Thank you Western Spirit for the highlight of our summer!

Fantastic experience: Just wanted to thank Ben and Chris for such a great experience. My first guided trip so wasn't sure what to expect but wouldn't change a thing. Everything was planned to perfection. The food was wonderful. And the kindness both boy's showed was so motivating and encouraging especially in our world today. They both started working before the sun came up and didn't stop until way beyond everyone going to bed, and it was obvious they love what they do. I also loved how they had a way of making us all feel like one big happy family and made lifetime friends. I hope we can have a reunion trip in the future:)

Fantastic experience: On a trail ride on the last dollar road in Colorado I met up with the bike tour. It was in a clearing used for photos. It is near camp sites with most of the were taken. When I noticed the bike support truck pull up. I asked were there more bikes coming up the hill? He answered he was last. As I started to pull out I witnessed the driver jump out and grab a shovel and disappear behind his truck. I looked and he and few bike tour people whom had put there bikes down went to an abandoned camp and were putting out a abandoned camp fire. The tour truck driver drained the cooler water into a bucket. I assisted them in putting it out. I am very proud to meet them. I consider them Hero's and I am so glad they care about every thing. Best Bike fire fighters.

Fantastic experience: Just returned from a 6-day Telluride to Moab MTB trip. It was absolutely amazing - the views, the setup, and particularly the food and facilitation by our guides Luke and Chris. Definitely hoping I'll find the opportunity to join further tours ahead.

Fantastic experience: Our guides KC and Sean showed us a great time! They were informative, super helpful when it came to on-the-fly bike maintenance, and tremendous chefs. Overall, a terrific experience and I’ll be using WS again for future bike tours.

Fantastic experience: The White Rim Ladies trip (April 2024) was such an amazing experience, it went above and beyond my expectations. The trip was so well organized and our guides took such good care of us. I enjoyed the pace of the days and there was enough time for each transition that I never felt rushed. There was a nice attention to detail that shows how well-oiled WSC is as an organization (from hand-washing stations, pre-breakfast, map talks, yoga/stretching station, etc). The ride was done in such a way that there was time for pictures, rest stops, and if you wanted to push it you could. The food was so yummy and delicious, it was such a luxury to be cooked for every day. I would definitely come on another WSC trip and will recommend WSC to any and everyone!

Fantastic experience: I’ve never done a supported trip before going on the white rim with western spirit. What a class act! Great guides, great food, excellent experience. I was super impressed with their knowledge and experience of the area. Not only were the meals excellent but I was really impressed with their food safety standards. Would recommend to anyone and would definitely use again.
