Travel Guard International: Reviews
Negative experience: 4 month after the trip I still spend 2 -3 hours weekly providing the same information over and over. Not one claim has been paid. Now my online access is blocked and they combined claims to complicate things. DO NOT USE
Negative experience: Never use this company, I rented a car thru Fox. I hit a curb, it cost $677 Travel guard paid the damages of $527 but did not pay the administration fee of $150. Even thought the policy says that there is no deductible. One more catch, they only cover your vehicle not the other vehicle(s) involved in an accident. I would never buy it again. It’s nothing but a scam. The best insurance is to buy directly from the rent a car company. It’s more expensive but they cover everything.
Negative experience: Travel Guard (AIG) coaches you to cancel your reservation and gives you false hope that you will get reimbursed. "Check will come in the mail but you first have to cancel your reservation." Of course Travel Guard (AIG) lied. They denied my claim. I will tell everyone I know not to use their services. I will be reporting to the BBB.
Negative experience: Deeply disappointed – feels like a total scam. I recently booked a flight and thought I was selecting a simple trip cancellation option. Instead, I later discovered that I had unknowingly purchased full trip insurance—something I never intended to buy. The way this insurance provider inserts themselves into the booking process on Orbitz is incredibly misleading. It’s presented in such a way that you think you’re choosing a cancellation policy, but in reality, you’re authorizing a completely different type of coverage. I tried reaching out to the company to resolve the situation, but got nowhere. Their customer service was unhelpful, offering nothing more than a generic response that just pointed back to their policy fine print—no real assistance, no effort to understand the issue, and definitely no refund. It felt dismissive and robotic. A word of caution to anyone booking through a third-party platform: be extremely careful when reviewing add-ons like cancellation protection. What you think is a basic cancellation option might actually be costly, unnecessary trip insurance. Honestly, in today’s world—where airlines allow you to cancel or rebook for a fee—trip insurance feels like a pointless upcharge. Now I’m out $500 on a $300 flight for something I never wanted in the first place. It’s incredibly frustrating, and it feels like they rely on this kind of confusion to profit off unsuspecting travelers.
Negative experience: Please do not use this insurance company. I booked a family cruise for ourselves and our two children and grandchildren. I purchased Travel Guard Insurance for all three cabins at the time of booking. I booked the May 2025 cruise in July 2024, ten months in advance. In March 2025, our Daughter in Law, a nurse in the Army, was unexpectedly deployed to the middle east. After supplying a full copy of her orders, I expected no problem in getting reimbursed for her fare. They denied the claim because we could not provide a record that she had requested leave prior to booking the cruise! Even though the hospital where she was stationed, due to the nature of her work, did not require request leaves until two weeks prior to the leave. So much for Travel Guard honoring the service of our military!
Negative experience: What’s the point of having insurance when they don’t do anything they said they saw the claim and couldn’t do anything about providing a refund never gave a reason or anything just a way for them to make money to give you a peace of mind just to end up screwing you over!
Negative experience: I was in a car accident an there insure was at fault ran a red light they wouldn't give me a claim number the person who hit me did not respond back to the insurance Co I'm out of my car can't get no were with these people so I'm forced to hire a laywer an get my own insurance Co involved due to the fact there proceting there client in this matter but they was the ones at fault this company is total garbage
Negative experience: Don't do it. You will get nowhere and they get your money.
Negative experience: this insurance AIG i got it Thru Expedia for my trip air tickets and hotel and got trouble with the days in my work and try to calim the insuarnce and they denied don t paid for this ins useless i would give no star but there is no option
Fantastic experience: I had a very good experience, prompt payment after I needed to cancel a flight due to being ill. This was worry free and I will use them again!
Negative experience: Scam, never use them, regardless how many proofs you show them, they never cover you with any money back, suckers and greedy, once they collect your money don't EXPECT them to cover you with any penny or refund your money back even if you cancel your trip completely, they still keep the money for no service provided at all. criminals and fraud, what a shame they are not put in jail for their frauds till now!!!
Negative experience: I’m requesting a refund because the booking site (Expedia) automatically scheduled the reservation for the next available date, even though I selected the date I needed. I was not notified that my selected date was unavailable. I only found out there was an issue when I arrived at the hotel and was told my booking was for the following night, not the night I needed. Unfortunately, the hotel was fully booked that night and unable to accommodate me, leaving me stranded in Chicago. The hotel advised me to dispute the charge to request a refund.
Negative experience: This people is the worst insurance. If you happen to cancel the won’t refund you instantly, they would tell you that the period is over and they can’t do anything else.
Negative experience: This is a scam. When booking your ticket with United, you click on one little box, and then they keep your money even if you try to cancel before your trip. I will never make the mistake of letting United scam me into using Travel Guard again.
Negative experience: I have always used Travel Insured when purchasing insurance however the travel company I worked for suggested using Travel Guard. BIG mistake! We had to cancel a golf trip for my husband due to him requiring surgery before travel. The injury was absolutely not pre existing which the doctor put in writing more than once. I went back and forth with a representative named Kimberly who was very unprofessional and rude multiple times only to be denied payment for the claim. I would not recommend using this insurance company for travel. I highly recommend Travel Insured.
Negative experience: lyers... a total Scam, I'm still waiting for them to cover my claim since december 2024 I paid for this insurance on a car rental, the rental compagny just proceeded with withdrawal by force on my credit card for a $1218 of damage while I paid a $100 insurance to this compagny when I rented the car to insure, I'm taking this to the court.
Negative experience: People in all USA be careful don't buy any of the insurance travel with AIG travel insurance this company is a big scamm I place two claims and for the last 3 months that claim adjusters continue asking for the same paperwork I sent the paper work and the next adjuster asking again and like that for 3 months lie lies and only liers this company pay for claim adjuster that is trained to delay and delay all the claims asking and asking for paperwork that proves the claim and went you ask fore they investigation they acting like little kid on kindergarten um. ..and a.. umm and nothing they do nothing asking for seniors supervisor on claim department and the same lies asking again for the same paperwork this lady ask me for the baggage we have lost on a robery in Rome Italy I provide everything also policy report and this senior supervisor on claims continue looking for excuses to close and pay for my claim my losses are around 2500 euros this is for 3 adults we lose everything and she said is a lot she's calculated the my claim is 150 dollars that is miserable no even pay for pair of jeans no even wants to pay for the delay at the airport this adjusters are trained to lie and make people get tired and forget to continue with claims Is a big frustration with AIG travel insurance if you live in USA I better options on other companies don't buy travel insurance with AIG before you travel check options and Read the reviews on AIG this company have bad reputation o BBB on consumer affairs we commit the mistake and buy this insurance that all they do is still may money time and more now I have open claim with the insurance commissioner authoritys on NV. And after that I'm going to open a Court case vs AIG travel they going to pay for all my losses and investment on this claim people don buy this insurance because you going to be like me in a big stressful situation fighting with bunch of liers and leasy people
Negative experience: Total failure! I was not given the option to replace my phone! They gave me $250.00 which was not nearly enough to purchase another cell phone! My cell phone original price over $1000.00+ it was an international in person purchase! I was questioned to death and interrogated, belittled by email about "being insured by other companies"! AIG insurance option was a waist of my time! Waist of my energy, embarrassing, harassment, grievance, especially because the claim was delayed, I lost my "DOG"! And the phone was a gift from my SON. IT TOOK #3 months. I didn't understand how to prove to AIG that "Expedia offered me the insurance, because I didn't have insurance. It took me weeks to research and figure out how to prove to AIG, through receipts and paperwork that I was not insured.
Negative experience: Scam company that will keep your money even when you cancel your flight and get a refund from the airline. I put in a request for a refund right after finding out it wasn't refunded. They put me through numerous layers and delays only to find out you need to request a refund within 15 days of the canceled trip. My request was denied and I never took the trip and canceled the flight the same exact day.
Negative experience: SCAM!!!!!! Do not believe a word this company says! They take your money and they deny your claim. They are frauds!!!! They are liars and frauds. we recently had to cancel a flight due to family emergency, a thing supposedly covered and yet. They will find a loophole. Because they are charlatans. Save your money and run as far as you can from this company.
Negative experience: The service is horrible. Never again! I’ve called over 3 times to try and get assistance and some guy named either Neil or Neo kept saying he could not hear me. Obviously there’s a problem on your end as I’ve called a different number and the representative was able to hear me. I’m disgusted.
Negative experience: Absurd waste of money to buy their travel insurance. I wasted countless hours (and funds) on a slam dunk claim that they refused to accept. One star is generous.
Negative experience: Total money scam I bought insurance just in case a hurricane would affect us down in Tampa. The flight was canceled at the last minute. I had to scramble to find other accommodations submitted a claim to travel which was denied because it was submitted after the flight. unreal what a money scam is I will never buy insurance Through them for anything part of the fireman underwriters policy so buyer beware
Negative experience: Do NOT recommend this company!!!! We were forced to cancel a trip because of a newly diagnosed serious health condition requiring months/years of treatment. We received a full refund from our travel agency for the trip but Travel Guard would not refund us our travel insurance payment. I do not recommend Travel Guard !!! Highly insensitive people that work there!
Negative experience: There is a reason for so many terrible reviews,it’s my experience that you just as well not have any travel insurance if you buy from Travel Guard .I’m disappointed in Expedia for offering this company. Customer service non existent, they have a call center that is of no use, A total waste of time and money. I will be a little smarter next time to stay away from Travel Guard and Expedia. I would give them zero stars if I could.
Negative experience: Sun country kept delaying our flight. They delayed it by 3 hours with no guarantee that there wouldn't be further delays. I live 5.5 hours from the airport I needed to fly into and I had transportation arranged for one night only to pick me up. I had to quickly book a flight on delta and cancel my sun country flight. I spoke to a travel guard rep before doing this and gave them all the info as to why I needed to cancel my flight, and the rep thanked me and said that he would get the claim submitted for me. Only to find out a couple of weeks later that TravelGaurd wouldn't cover my extra expenses to book a Delta flight. I submitted all receipts and correspondence with Sun Country as proof of the continual delays. Pretty pointless "trip protection" if it doesn't protect you when you need it.
Negative experience: It's a scam. Their policies are designed to make it impossible to get a payout.
Negative experience: I would literally give negative stars if possible. I filed a claim through Travel Guard for cell phone insurance. My review has less to do with their overly restrictive policy specifics, and more to do with their minimally useful claims agents who respond to my questions literally five or six times with the exact same copy and pasted response. When asked to forward me to another agent or supervisor, the request us refused (multiple times). Now, I understand that the agents are just like me, overworked people doing their stressful jobs under tightening budgets... So I fault the company as a whole for not equipping their employees better.
Negative experience: website is down every time I make an attempt -- how can they not take the time to fix it....not good customer service
Negative experience: this company is terrible, twice I tried to get insurance for Antigua and both times it puts Bulgaria as the destination, they tell they will change but can't send any proof of change, I'm going with another company, also had to wait a week to get my credit, now I have to wait another week for the second screw up
Positive experience: I had travel guard for a year and felt like it was a good coverage for me since I traveled a lot for my job. But when I called to renew and ask some questions about covering a specific vacation event I was on hold for a very long time and eventually hung up. Not a good customer service move if your whole business depends on phone calls!!!
Fantastic experience: Very easy to purchase a policy for a trip across multiple countries. I had to amend the dates of the trip and that was very easy to do as well. Filed a claim due to an airline canceling one of my flights. Travel Guard asked for reasonable documentation and promptly issued a check. Great experience all around.
Negative experience: Hello everyone I am the owner of jaquanrentals LLC out in Pennsylvania I like to began with letting everyone no please don't use this company ive used for awhile and the 1st time I need to file a claim I was told the insurer needs to do it so I asked who in there rite mind would do that if there already about to be sued by my company I have police reports rental agreement there policy photos video everything they basically saying if that person doesn't ok the claim then you get nothing and they get to damage your property and get away with it if you wanna be hung out to dry don't take my words for it but if you wanna protect your company or yourself leave these people alone stay far away they also said they only do travel insurance all of a sudden keep in mind when I spoke to them it was a American voice when talking about insurance the second I wanted to do a claim now everyone at the company sounds like robots and broken English and based out of the Philippines
Positive experience: I have used Travel Guard for many years, both privately and professionally, and have never had a problem. Like with all insurance, though, you must completely understand the product you are purchasing and keep meticulous records. Only reason not a 5 is because they have discontinued a product I bought in the past.
Negative experience: I would NOT spend your money on Travel Insurance via Travel Guard! We paid for insurance and unfortunately we had to cancel our trip. We submitted our claim with all the documents that AIG Travel Guard requested but they still denied us. The didn’t offer to refund the premium that I paid for and didn’t use either. They make it next to impossible to be awarded a refund. We cancelled because of work obligations and had the H.R. director write a letter verifying the obligation too! That wasn’t enough! AIG needed proof of termination or relocation! Termination occurs if you take a trip Instead of filling your trip obligations. That’s why you buy trip insurance! Just never buy it from AIG Travel which is Travel Guard!
Negative experience: This is the worst insurance company compared to Allianz. I wasn’t able to use a trip insurance due to illness. Allianz allowed to use the trip insurance for the other future travels. Lastly, travel guard has the most strict languages and requests a lot of info during claims. Stay away from travel guard if we want to live longer.
Fantastic experience: Great product with reasonable premiums for travel. Good customer service and reliable coverage.
Negative experience: Do not purchase! This is an absolute scam and AIG Travel Guard will do anything they can to get out of actually insuring the trip. AIG should shut their doors on this business. Will never use them for any type of service for our family because of this horrible experience and terrible customer service.
Negative experience: SCAM! If you buy the trip insurance THEY WILL NEVER PAY!! You will get red-taped, DENIED multiple times, they'll drag their feet and ultimately will never pay! It is a SCAM -- not "insurance!" They're only obligation is to their shareholders not the holders of their insurance policies! AVOID!
Negative experience: This company I has very bad customer service, it is very difficult to talk to someone. I have used them for almost 20 years and will be no longer. We had to cancel due to our cruise being canceled for Covid. They issued our voucher. Called and got an extension on the voucher expiration and now they won’t honor it. Shame on them for taking advantage and lying to their customers whose trips were effected by the pandemic.
Negative experience: Do not use for travel insurance - AIG - Travel Guard I bought a policy through Expedia in conjunction with AIG for a trip in August. Unfortunately, mid flight, one of my parents suddenly passed away and I had to return home. I submitted a claim on August 16th. After calling AIG, they had no information about my claim. Several emails went unanswered. It was then passed over to a company called Sedgwich who, after 2 months are now asking for the same documents and receipts I initially provided. I feel like this is a strategy to frustrate the claimant into finally giving up. I certainly won't and will keep fighting and calling and emailing. Death of parent or spouse is covered in my policy so why is it so complicated. All i want is reimbursement for the flights and taxi. If it keeps going I will fight and make a formal complaint against AIG and Sedgwich. What is the point of travel insurance....
Negative experience: If Zero stars were an option, I would chose that. DO NOT USE. BUYERS BEWARE. THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY AND RUN. So far it has been 4 months and they denied my claim, but approved partial claim of the other couple we traveled with. Why? No clue. Don't use this travel insurance agency, they do not protect you or your trip for anything!
Negative experience: After waiting almost two months they denied my claim saying my delayed 12 hour flight was a trip interuption. Delayed flights are covered by the policy...someone needs to get these crooks...and shut them down
Negative experience: The most horrible business you can deal with! Don’t waste your money, times and mental health. They don’t understand any difference between being treated in the US and other countries. They will ask you to submit the documents over and over again, make you feel a fool asking “where is your flight cancellation”. Like you the first thing you think about dying somewhere in the dessert is how to cancel your flight! And it’s for the reimbursement of $230! I spent 10 hours and tons of my nerves until I gave up.
Negative experience: DO NOT USE, they repeatedly ask for repeat documentation. They did not explain cx for any cause vs medical necessity. Never sent me medical certificate form (required). Obviously delay tactics allow them not to pay a verified claim. In hospital with life threatening illness. Worst insurance ever. Waste of $1400. Shame!!!! I have submitted the SAME documents close to TEN times. Documented as received 2 wks ago. NO response I have a life threatening illness. Medical documentation submitted multiple times! Multiple excuses. Next step is my State Attorney General. Stress is not good in my recuperation process. Unethical theft of services. As of Feb 15 2023, they have not adjudicated my claim, after TWO MONTHS. Trip canceled for life threatening illness as of Dec 2022. Will now contact the AG of my state.
Negative experience: Worst travel insurance company ever. Do not waste your money. Denied my claim, approved my sisters same claim. Even mailed her a check. When I questioned mine, was then approved. I received an email and a phone call that my claim was approved and a check was printed. When our other traveling companions questioned why they were denied, all 4 claims then got denied and a stop payment placed on our checks from Travel Guard. I spoke to 3 people from travel guard before purchasing the policy and explained in detail our situation. All 3 assured me we would be covered if we ended up having to file a claim. Most incompetent company I have ever dealt with.
Negative experience: Would rate lower if I could. Bought airfare and insurance for family to come visit over Christmas. Daughter got covid and was contagious, could not travel. Submitted claim, including doctor "note", should have been a no brainer. NOPE. Very busy fighting this now.
Negative experience: I purchase "cancel for any reason, get 50% refund." After 4 months of the same copy and paste "your case will take more time" emails. my claim was denied. Never use AIG.
Negative experience: I too canceled my trip according to their guidelines and was denied after being strung along for over a month. It’s clear from the reviews, that this is just how they do business. It seems that since airlines are using this company they should hear from us too with the goal of having them drop this company to ensure customer satisfaction. For United airlines I contacted Brett Hart. Find the Director of Customer Service for your airline and inform them of how you’re being treated by a company they chose.
Negative experience: We have been buying travel guard trip insurance for over 10+ years. We put a claim in over a month ago and it has been a disaster. They have offshored the claims call center and they told me the claim was approved, but then I get an email from the claims adjuster in the US named “Rachel” who can’t read the documentation!? I resent the documentation via email and asked her to call me. I have not heard anything via phone or email. I tried to call the WI claims office and it reroutes me to the Philippine call center. Meanwhile, we spent thousands on this trip insurance and cannot get any customer service! We will be changing trip carriers for insurance.
Negative experience: THIS COMPANY IS ABSOLUTELY CORRUPT!!! MY AUNT BOUGHT COVERAGE FOR A TRIP SHE WAS TAKING. DUE TO HEALTH ISSUES, SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO TAKE THE TRIP. SHE REACHED OUT TO THE COMPANY AND THEY PROVIDED HER WITH PAPERWORK TO FILL OUT. SHE DID AND SUBMITTED IT. SHE THEN RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM A BOGUS CLAIM ADJUSTER BY THE NAME OF "WILLIE SCOTT" ASKING FOR ALL THE SAME INFORMATION, AGAIN. SHE RESUBMITTED IT. AND, AGAIN, SHE RECEIVED ANOTHER BOGUS EMAIL ASKING FOR THE PAPERWORK. IT'S A B.S. FRAUDULENT COMPANY THAT JUST TAKES YOUR MONEY THEN MAKES YOU JUMP THROUGH A B.S. CLAIMS PROCESS UNTIL THE CUSTOMER GIVES UP!!!! IT'S ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!! JUST LOOK AT ALL THE HORRENDOUS REVIEWS.
Negative experience: Worse travel guard insurance ever see good to charge you but worse to pay you a claim even if it small claim my was almost the same to what I pay for and still did not received my money, for almost a month I was sent paper backed and forwarded for a claim that I make and at the end my rental car charge my credit card, customer service is overseas and always says the same they don’t have ability to sold your claim or give you a correct answer, just your certificate claim adjuster have that ability, but you will never be in contact with it always is through general email or website, I don’t recommend at all, worse worse worse don’t buy through Expidia car rental insurance.
Negative experience: Don’t waste your $$!!! Terrible! I submitted all the required paperwork and they kept asking me for a letter from the airline asking what the delay was… I never got such a paper and I have no way to go back and ask them a month back… so claim was never paid! Waste of money to get this insurance!
Negative experience: Unfortunately I read the wrong reviews before purchasing travel insurance with this company. I have been trying for 2 months to get my claim, and they ignore my emails and disconnect my phone calls. But I see someone else said “small claims court”. That may be my next step.
Negative experience: they take your money and don't pay when you make a clime.
Negative experience: Poor service. They do everything to not pay the travel insurance claims.
Negative experience: DO NOT purchase AIG Travel Guard for Travel Insurance! Go else where! I provided ALL the documentation regarding a flight delay that made us miss our connecting flight, and still had to spend months of time and more money holding them accountable. I will likely have to take them to small claims court to see my claim processed!
Negative experience: This appeared to be a sham company, they lost my claim package even after signing for it at the post office, 4 week delay just to start to look at it..... All I ever get is the call center with very polite people, but no action...... its be 32 days since they received the paperwork. Can not even update their own website, (Update: After several month, (April to July) they finally processed paid the claim last month, they even updated their records to show the lost paperwork had been found, they are extremely slow to process claims.
Negative experience: NEVER Use AIG Travel Guard !! Possibly the worst company and customer service I have ever experienced. Zero Customer service and completely incompetent people on the other end of the phone. I have submitted a claim for a weather related canceled flight as confirmed by a weather report and the airline, AIG has refused the claim two times. When I asked to speak with the highest ranking official (Liz) It was very difficult to understand her and she just kept apologizing and reading me a canned response...over and over. She had ZERO ability to make any decisions "as she is not a licensed adjuster" ?? Then How and Why are you running the Claims department ? Nobody in the 10 plus calls has been able to articulate what additional information is needed to prove my claim, just just keep repeating that I need to appeal and submit ??? additional information ?? WHAT INFORMATION. My contract shows Im covered under 3 different lines, (t, i & j) Do yourself a favor dont EVER buy the insurance, they will NEVER pay it, they are well trained in just giving you the runaround, just take the loss, because they wont ever pay. Expedia Should be ashamed for offering this service, it just shines a bad light on them as well !
Negative experience: Just no. They are supposed to insure you have safe travels, not to ensure a headache about issues while traveling.
Negative experience: They announce that they will return 100% of your money if you cancel the plane ticket, but what they do not describe to you is that for that happen you basically have to die, and logically that is not going to happen to anyone, therefore what they do is steal your money.....conclusion...THEY ARE SCAMMERS.....DO NOT BUY INSURANCE FROM THIS COMPANY.
Negative experience: Was forced to cancel oversees trip 1 month before departrure due to pandemic as I am immunocompromised. I immediately filed a claim. After numerous phone calls to customer service which is located in the Phillipines, I asked to speak to a representative in the US. They were unable to provide a phone number. When I called the corporate office, I was provided with the same outsourced number. I now plan to file a complaint with the Florida insurance commissioner and may need to resort to hiring an attorney.
Negative experience: If you are in need of travel insurance I encourage you to look elsewhere. Please know that I filed my claim with AIG when I was unable to travel to Africa because of an inconclusive Covid-19 test result. 24 hours after the airline sent links to request a full airfare refund, I promptly used the airline’s link to request my refund and it was received about 48 hours later. About a week later I received an email from AIG indicating that my claim was denied, not because I had already received my refund but because my reason for asking for a reason didn’t meet their criteria. How ironic that the airline found the reason valid, Aig didn’t even investigate just instantly denied the claim. Pathetic treatment of claims in a pandemic, unless you are sick with Covid or something else you’re basically screwed. Beware of their tactics to do nothing to help you! They stole my money and did nothing!! JUST SHARING!!
Negative experience: My Unfortunate Experience with TRAVEL GUARD AIG Travel Insurance My wife and I, Purchased Travel Insurance from TRAVEL GUARD AIG. It costs us $349.42. This was the most I Have ever had to pay for travel insurance. But they had good coverage options so I went with it regardless of my reservations. Well We Had to Cancel our Vacation, because of Covid-19. Unfortunately, Since this Pandemic Era We Have Had Several Vacation Cancellations. Every Company we have done Business With and Had to Cancel, because of Covid-19 have Refunded our Money. TRAVEL GUARD AIG is refusing to Refund Our $349.42. Travel Guard AIG Insurance Company Is the Only Company to Refuse Giving Us Our Refund, because of COVID-19. My Wife and I Will Never Use Travel Guard AIG Insurance Again as long as They Refuse to Refund Our Money. Just thought Other People Should Be Aware of Our Experience to have to Eat $349.42, because of TRAVEL GUARD AIG Insurance Company's Refusal to Refund Our Money, because of Covid-19 and the Uncertainties it has brought to the Travel Industry. We have had to do Business With Several Different Companies in the Travel Business and every single company with the Exception of TRAVEL GUARD AIG Insurance has Refunded Our Money without a Problem. Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone
Negative experience: When it comes to claiming refunds on travel insurance, they have a policy to refund if the cancellation request is made within 15 days of planned travel, however if sent a request for refund, they reply back pretty late, even after the 15 day period ends and will decline your request since the 15 day period has passed. Highly unprofessional and unethical. Would suggest staying away.
Negative experience: I will never buy travel insurance from this company again. They advertise cancellation for any reason but that is incredibly misleading. Make sure you read the fine print very carefully! I wish I had done a little more research and read reviews prior to purchasing. They have hundreds of negative reviews on BBB.org.
Negative experience: Management people are not good—unfair treatment with no equality. #1 Favoritism, especially the manager or director, whatever her position. Good people who work at the sales department and customers representatives are awesome.
Negative experience: I purchased travel insurance. I got sick on my trip. They denied me coverage even though I had coverage then told me to get a doctor's note stating how it related to my sickness and are still trying to deny any coverage even though my doctor specifically said in a letter the 2 were directly related and are still trying to deny paying my medical bills! I would rate a 0 out of a 10 and we'll never purchase again! I would highly never recommend buying insurance from this company of any kind!!!!!!!
Negative experience: The worst health insurance I’ve ever tried! My wife had to go to the hospital 3 months ago and they still haven’t paid the bill! All they do is ask for more documents!
Negative experience: AIG Leaves Man with Cancer going Hungry Holiday insurance company AIG is recommended by Expedia and American Airlines and I booked cover for a holiday to Canada that was cancelled when my partner was diagnosed with cancer weeks prior to the trip. In every communication with the company while providing the requested documentation I informed them that we no longer lived in the UK but now resided in France. Unlike many reviews I have read since dealing with the company, they agreed to pay out. BUT, that was over a month ago. 1st they sent the cheque to the old address in the UK that they had been informed many times was no longer valid. They took a week to respond to the email regarding that. They agreed to organise a wire transfer and the relevant proof of bank account was sent in, they took a week to acknowledge receipt and another to have, what was basically a page with numbers, translated. It is now another week later, so just over a month since they agreed to pay out and despite the appalling handling of my claim and the knowledge now that my partner is not getting better, that we have no income due to Covid, bank payments are not being honoured, we are down to one meagre meal a day, that now, due to the stress of it all I am getting ill they still won't prioritise my payment. In fact they have told me it will be another 2 to 3 weeks to process my wire transfer, which is just disgustingly unbelievable in this automated 21st century world! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! From other reviews they rarely pay out and in my case, even when they say they will, they have the most archaic system that creates delay mixed with incompetence enabling them to hold on to YOUR money till the very last minute. I repeat, save yourself the stress, do some research and book your holiday insurance with someone else. DO NOT, DO NOT USE AIG.
Negative experience: Beware of this scammer insurance company! We purchased this insurance as a recommendation from our travel agent since our dream trip was going to cost thousands of dollars. This was Under the circumstances we could cancel for any reason. We figured it would be worth it since this was such a major expense to our military family. It was our family Christmas trip we had saved up for three years! Imagine a Christmas in Europe! … oh the excitement we had on our way to the airport just days before Christmas. When we arrived at the airport ticket counter, we were informed that new restrictions kept us from traveling out of the United States into Italy because our daughter’s passport were to expire within 6 months of our travel. We were only going to be gone for two weeks but the passport were set to expire within 5 1/2 months from the time we return… delta airlines would not allow us to board. My family was devastated. Needless to say COVID-19/a pandemic happened while we were awaiting our claim. Fast forward nine months and this company is finally reaching out to us only to tell us that they’re not going to refund our money. $7000 in airfare was ripped away from us. Stolen as far as we are concerned! Again, AIG is a complete scam company! We are beyond devastated and hopeless… who can you trust these days? Not this company!
Negative experience: Covid pandemic cancelled our trip. Flights, cruise and one hotel full refund. No questions asked. Another hotel refused $400 refund. This insurance agency did not help. Should have known better after seeing their reviews. Lesson learned. Never buy insurance from AIG.
Negative experience: They do everything possible to not fulfil a claim. From requesting information they already haven from the policy purchase, to not allowing a partial claim to be saved, to limits on attachment size that makes it impossible to give them the form required. I have now spent 50 minutes (20 and 30) and once again will have to start over tomorrow as it won't accept jpeg only pdf on one of the forms. I bought travel insurance to AVOID headaches, not get one
Fantastic experience: Ok,
Positive experience: I purchased a travel policy pre-Covid 19. Both the tour operator and airline cancelled the trip recently, so I requested a premium refund but was denied, only given a voucher for future use. Given that I have no idea if I'll be able to book another trip, that is unacceptable, it should be a full refund; they never insured anything as the trip is not happening. UPDATE 7/4/2020: I am rating Travel Guard up to 3 stars from 1. I pushed back in an email to them, demanding a full refund, and after several days they replied telling me they were issuing a full refund. Twelve days later it appeared as a credit on my credit card. I am grateful for the refund - but must add that given current circumstances with Covid-19, they really should have made it clear one could receive a refund vs going through the multi step process I have - many will just accept that they only get a voucher for future use. This is not 'industry standard,' by the way. The airline, a different travel insurance company for my airfare, and the tour company all gave immediate full refunds. Therefore only 3 stars, and I will likely not use them in the future.
Negative experience: Simply Put, not worth the investment. This was my first purchase of travel insurance, and my flight was cancelled due to COVID 19, rerouted, then rescheduled and then cancelled, but no reason to worry, I bought travel insurance. The first mistake was trusting Travel Guard, a claim was filed three months ago, and the only response I have received to date is an automated reply that we are delayed due to COVID. I would like to offer that response to my patients, due to COVUD we just won't answer your question, or respond to your email and better yet, if you call we will simply place you on hold for an hour or two. Travel Guard is owed by AIG, which had a 4th quarter profit for 2019 of 900 million plus, now we know how, they just refuse to adjudicate claims, and and simply play the waiting game. The airlines have actually been better, and that is saying a lot.
Negative experience: I wish that I would’ve read these reviews before purchasing Travel Guard. Their practices are borderline criminal and customer service nonexistent. Like their customer service, this a company that needs to cease to exist.
Negative experience: The insurance is advertised as being able to be cancelled for any reason. Now you're just getting started. Having doctor's appointments, getting doctors to sign papers, submitting papers and decisions.... False advertising by Expedia and this company seems to be an appropriate subtitle.
Fantastic experience: I have used Travel Guard on most of my travels. I have had to make a claim on one occasion. They were great! I think the problem people incounter is they expect they will cover anything and everything. People need to educate themselves before purchasing any insurance product. Travel Guard has representatives to answer ANY questions the consumer may have. Great company with a great product but again the consumer just like with anything educating yourself will save you much frustration.
Negative experience: If I could give negative stars I would... Everything about this company is a joke. Do NOT purchase travel insurance through them. You will never see your money again! Their customer service is equally as terrible. It is clear that this company doesn’t care about their customers at all and just wants money. We submitted additional documentation that was never reviewed and they closed our case without notifying us at all. I will be sure to let everyone I know to steer clear of this company.
Negative experience: Poor business practices.
Negative experience: Purchased Travel "Insurance" only to be denied on my claim based on buried fine print. Do not purchase Travel Guard" it is a scam!
Negative experience: NEVER PURCHASE INSURANCE THROUGH THIS COMPANY. ITS FRAUDULENT. I purchased travel insurance through AIG to cover a flight to West Palm beach for a competition I was attending. Dorian the hurricane hit and the airport was closed and my competition canceled. I have been fighting to be refunded for almost two months now. The last email I received from then was them asking me to prove that the area was uninhabitable. The customer service is extremely poor. One lady I spoke with continued to cut me off midsentence and tell me that I needed to resend my claim and there was nothing she could do then she hung up on me.
Fantastic experience: Great!
Negative experience: What does "100% Cancellation Trip Cost" mean to you? We believe that the average person would interpret that phrase to mean that if one cancels one's trip they will get the cost refunded. After all, we did pay over $150 for our trip insurance. Unfortunately, it turns out those words have another meaning altogether. Back in early June we contacted AIG because we had been directed by my wife's doctor to not travel. My wife is having an abnormal pregnancy. At that time, AIG directed us to cancel our trip so that we could file a claim. No indication was given at that time that we would have any problems when filing the claim. So, as requested, we cancelled our trip and submitted the claim on 6/3. On 6/18 we received a response stating that confirmation from our doctor was needed to complete the claim. The form was returned on 6/20. We waited an additional 2 weeks until a response was given on 7/5 that the claim was denied. As of 7/25 we have contacted our claims adjuster on 2 additional occasions to dispute the finding but have not received a response. Here are some details we would like the public to know before purchasing these policies: First, as indicated above, we believe the policy was misrepresented when we purchased it. The exact verbiage from AIG is "TRIP CANCELLATION 100% Trip Cost". Second, the policy does exclude normal pregnancies. However, they denied our claim despite the pregnancy not being a normal pregnancy. The exclusion reads: "This plan does not cover any loss caused by or resulting from: Normal Pregnancy or Childbirth, other than Unforeseen Complications of Pregnancy, or elective abortion of the Insured;". Some examples of what makes this pregnancy abnormal include: bed rest, travel restrictions, and cesarean section. This is our 3rd pregnancy and our doctor has never required bed rest for any of the other pregnancies. Nor has our doctor denied our request to travel in any of our other pregnancies. Also, none of our other pregnancies have resulted in a non-elective cesarean section. All of these complications have been stressful enough without AIG telling us it's a normal pregnancy. The most disturbing thing is that an insurance company will not accept the written recommendation of a doctor. Lastly, if we had traveled despite our physicians request our policy would have been void. As per section K of the Exclusions and Limitations- General Exclusions section "any Trip taken outside the advice of a Physician" would cause an exclusion of the claim. Therefore, the exclusion section of the policy actually creates a catch-22 for our family. If we accept AIG's assertion, that this is a "normal pregnancy", and travel our policy would be void because we would be ignoring the advice of our doctor. And yet, we took the advice of our doctor and our claim is still denied. This is unethical. We believe one of two things is happening. Either AIG is failing to act in good faith to distribute settlement when liability is clear or they are not actually offering trip cancellation insurance and perpetrating a scam. Either way, we want the public to know about these practices before seeking coverage for their next trip.
Fantastic experience: But travel guard is open 24/7 mon-sun 365 including holidays
Negative experience: I rented a car in Panama City through Expedia. Alamo was the company. I bought Expedia collision insurance. I used the car three days and then I returned it. The car had a little scratch and Alamo insurance, which I paid also, did not cover the damage. I paid the reparation. I filled out the claim to Travel Guard and submitted all the documentation, except the damage photo, which I did not take. I claimed in April 20 and still pending. They asked me again the same documentation and again I sent it. The process is awful and the service worse. Very bad attention. I do not know why is happening this. I am going to continue reviewing this agency and also Expedia for the bad service they provide.
Negative experience: Don't ever buy any sort of insurance through AIG travel guard, they take your money, waste you time, lie to you, and overall horrible experience. And that is coming from local guide level 6 reviewer.
Fantastic experience: They handled our emergency better than we could ever have imagined.
Negative experience: I was hit by a hurricane and had to cancel my trip. AIG travel insurance would not cover it because the airline itself still flew. The insurance is a ripoff and also unfriendly.
Positive experience: They sell travel insurance in case you don't know. The building is beautiful inside and out. If you like big corporate America then this is the place for you.
Fantastic experience: AMAZING!!
Positive experience: Decent company that helps the local community.
Negative experience: Waste of money. The insurance provided by AIG is beyond stupid
Negative experience: Absolutely unacceptable behavior for a company owned and operated by AIG, the worlds largest insurance concern! I purchased a season pass insurance from Travel Guard at the Buck Hill ski resort, in Burnsville, MN, hoping to cover the cost of the pass in case of an accident during the term of the pass. In Jan. 2016 I was hit by a novice skier who crashed in my back at a very high speed, ending my ski season with 3 broken ribs. I duly filed a claim, submitting all required documentation. But for months I didn't get my claim worked on and hearing nothing but delays, excuses, etc. Then Travel Guard blamed the ski resort for not getting the right info. After that was taken care of, Travel Guard has now requested that I submit once again all of the info I had previously provided - not only including the payment receipt for the premium payment, but even a copy of my bank's credit card statement.... are they for real? It is now almost September and Travel Guard continues to delay and postpone their contractual obligations, which behavior appears to be by design, based on the reports of other clients.
Negative experience: AIG travel insurance is an absolute scam. My wife and I planned a trip to Colombia for our honeymoon. She was going to be around 4 months pregnant when we were set to go. There was then a travel ban to Colombia due to Zika virus. Also, her mom was diagnosed with breast cancer at the time. Two severe reasons not to travel. Both were documented and sent in and both were denied. This scam needs to be shut down. The only reason I rated it a 1 star is because it would not allow 0.
Negative experience: Very dissappointing experience! We purchased insurance for a cruise in January. Our ship was late getting back into the dock, because it had spent 5 hours overnite looking for a lost ship at sea-- which by law they are required to do. This made us miss our flight. There was nothing else available on that date to get home, so we went ahead and booked a flight with another carrier, because we NEEDED to get home. This cost us $1300 for two tickets, but according to what we read in our policy, Travelguard would cover up to $500 a person for unforeseen circumstances for trip interruption. Well by Travelguards standard this was NOT covered because it did not specifically list "looking for lost ship at sea" as a reason for trip interruption. I agree with hundreds of other reviews I have read online, this company is a scam and I would be VERY leary of using. Would NOT reccommend!!!
Negative experience: Purchased Lufthansa airlines tickets. 2 one way tickets. Boston to Budapest and return Prague to Boston. Also purchased travel guard insurance via Lufthansa website. Just received notification that river cruise ship has been involved in fire in dry dock. Tour operator says cruise cancelled. Travel guard says I can still fly to my destination. Really??? They are unwilling to refund or rebook my tickets #travelguardisascam. #stayawayfromtravelguard.
