Our comment from TraTraTravel about Norwegian Cruise Line:

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) offers a range of cruise experiences, particularly famous for their Alaskan cruise itineraries. Guests commend the beautiful ships, with many praising the comfortable accommodations and cleanliness as well as the overall organization on board. The staff receives consistent accolades for their friendliness and willingness to assist, enhancing the overall cruise experience.

However, several aspects of the cruise experience have received critical feedback:

  • Dining Experiences: Several users have noted that while the food in specialty restaurants can be excellent, many dining options, especially at buffets, lack variety and appeal. Guests have reported repeated dishes and lower quality in some areas.
  • Customer Service: There are numerous complaints regarding the responsiveness and quality of customer service, particularly in handling issues and reservations. Guests have described interactions with guest services as unhelpful, leading to feelings of frustration.
  • Activity Management: Many passengers found the activities poorly managed, resulting in long wait times and overcrowded spaces. Excursions are often criticized for short durations and inconvenient port locations.
  • Hidden Fees: Several guests expressed dissatisfaction with the unexpected additional charges for various amenities and services, which can create a feeling of being 'nickel and dimed.'
  • Entertainment: While some performances were well-received, others noted that the overall entertainment offered aboard felt lacking, particularly for a ship of its size.

Despite the mixed reviews, many guests still highlight their enjoyment of scenic views, particularly in Alaska, with some expressing intent to travel with NCL again. Overall, it's a mix of excitement for the voyage tempered by operational challenges that need addressing.

Norwegian Cruise Line: Reviews

Negative experience: The overall program, food, and service was super disappointing. Alaska was beautiful but this cruise line specifically Encore was terrible. Taste, Savor, and Manhattan all serve the same food. Nothing special except all you really is different decor. Food is a joke and you’re just better off going to the buffet. The paid restaurants are no better. Was extremely disappointed with Food Republic and their selection of what they call “Asian” food. Yea no. The sushi is terrible, Korean food isn’t real Korean food. In the end you will get charged and end up going to the buffet. Overall my experience with Norwegian was super disappointing. Would not recommend nor do I see myself returning to such an unorganized and unpleasant cruise ship! Bye Norwegian and never again! Boy were you a mistake!

Negative experience: Great ship!!!!!only!!! with some staff who ruined the experience. I have a suggestion for the company. Check you bar tenders, they almost always are only setting up the bar i.e.never ready, never courteous, never interested in serving. Well if your so tired of working behind the bar, then just quit. It's a pity that little things are not looked after which almost ruins the whole cruise experience. The Karting arena is a mess, totally mismanaged. Mediocre.....looking back at good times on the Royal Caribbean Little things matter!!! Almost all staff on our ship looked burnt out!!!

Negative experience: Overpriced and overrated. Avoid Norwegian at all cost or it will cost you $$. Drinks that were supposed to be included were not. Every restaurant has an exception (unless you want to eat buffet 7 days straight). Guest services just recited their interpretation of not-all included.

Fantastic experience: This was our first cruise in 25 years and our daughters first time ever. We had such an amazing time! Norwegian was fantastic. We were on the Escape which is a beautiful ship. The ship was so organized and clean. The food was fantastic and so were the drinks. We bought the alcohol and soda package which we were glad we did. We had a balcony which we were also glad we got. We did a western Caribbean cruise. We will definitely cruise with Norwegian again!

Fantastic experience: We lost one of our fellow cruisers when in Juneau, when she took off by herself, slipped and fell 1700 feet on her hike.. these are pictures of the staff morning Her loss when we arrived back at port, each employee tossed a yellow rose over thank you NCL. Beautiful ⚘️

Negative experience: In 2023 I put together a group of friends and family for a cruise with NCL. Needless to say I will never book with them again, customer service has been less than stellar and since I booked with a travel agent who is my Aunt they won’t speak with me but give each of us different answers to questions. We have had to contact them about a few different situations that have come up and none have been resolved. Unfortunately back to Royal Caribbean we will go. Also a tip for future travels with NCL the bogo airfare is higher than what you can book on your own.

Negative experience: I haven’t even been on my cruise yet but I’ve had to reach out to corporate several times due to issues with cruise consultants who were offensive, inappropriate, and unable to answer questions (Keven Avila). He booked our party on two different floors and said to me, “That’s not good enough for you?! You won’t be in your room much anyways.” His supervisor, Ivan Lora, refused to return calls and emails when I needed escalation. After connecting with Juliette at corporate (the only helpful and sympathetic person I’ve encountered!), I was connected with a second cruise consultant (Mark Pineda), who was the most unenthusiastic representative ever. He sounded like I was bothering him with my questions, asked no questions about me and my party, directed me to call other departments myself to find answers he was unable to answer, and told me to call back NOT if I need more help, just when I want to book my next cruise. NO THANKS! It is NOT CHEAP to cruise with NCL, this is a huge splurge for us, a once in a lifetime experience. It’s hard to be excited about the trip when it is such a struggle to schedule. I’m hoping to hear back from corporate again to help answer questions that the cruise consultants and excursion department couldn’t and wouldn’t.

Negative experience: Norwegian changed my tour from a private salmon fishing charter to a boat with 20 people. I asked for an explanation or at the very least a discount, both of which fell on deaf ears. Would not recommend.

Negative experience: Norwegian deleted my reservation while trying to " link " my cabins , then changed my booking . When I talked to guest service , they basically told me too bad . They offered nothing for my inconvenience, not even an apology. Once they had my money , they treated me like an inconvenience. On the last port , we had 3 hours ( 8pm to 11 pm )to see Victoria, spent an hour of that waiting in line to get a bus and then we arrived downtown to find 80% of shops was closed , then to top it off when we made it back to ship , they closed all but one bar and diner. With nearly 4k people on the ship and one place to eat / drink , I am sure many people just went to bed . Norwegian is a giant money grab and it would be a disservice to recommend cruising with them . The place they port are the most inconvenient of all the ships , their customer service desk was horrible , you spend most your day on stairs or waiting for elevators and they add charges for everything . If I could give less stars , I would . Since I cannot, the one star is given to the crew who are worked like slaves .

Negative experience: Took our first cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line to Alaska recently. The cruise was okay and the people onboard worked very hard. But I don't feel that they were upfront in how they dealt with us. I told them to add the service charge (tips) on at the original booking which was confirmed. After the trip was over, they added a second charge. If they added the second charge at the time of booking, no problem. I don't like surprises like this.

Fantastic experience: Excellent cruise line with plenty to choose from. Great food and service, activities, and luxury suites! We are two days in to an exciting adventure from Seattle to the coast of Alaska. Stopping at a plethora of amazing sites, towns, and fiords.

Positive experience: The Encore is a beautiful ship, and the Alaska cruise itinerary, with the exception of the port call in Victoria, BC (too short to be worthwhile), was good. Our captain did an awesome job of sailing us through rough seas but proved his experience with a wonderfully slow, narrated tour of Glacier Bay. The crew spanned the range from completely unhelpful to exceptional. Bar servers were the best - attentive but not overbearing, fun, talkative when asked questions, quick to meet special requests. On the flip side, being disabled, I was appalled when I asked a crew member if transportation was provided at the Port of Juneau from our dock to the town (about a mile walk with up & down hill stretches). He stated it was a short walk, just 20 minutes. I told him I have a degenerative neurological disorder affecting my legs. He stated, "Oh, then there will be something for you when you get off the ship." He then turned his attention to other passengers. No explanation where to find the transportation, what shuttle to look for, etc. Off the ship, there was no one from NCL to point the way to anything resembling a shuttle to town, just excursions. We had to walk, and it was a painful, 40+ minute walk in the rain for me. Food is decent, but "Freestyle Cruising" really means "free-for-all" cruising when it comes to dining at the complimentary restaurants. They do not take reservations, and the lines and waits for a table, if you are a party of 6 or more, are intolerable. We dined at two of the specialty upcharge restaurants: Cagney's Steak House and Le Bistro. Avoid Cagney's. While there is a lot of positive hype on social media about how good the restaurant is, it's mediocre at best. Our waitstaff was not very engaging and seemed to be working a job they didn't like. The food was disappointing - not as good as chain steakhouses like Texas Roadhouse. The best service at Cagney's we experienced was from our sommelier who listened, made good recommendations, was cheerful, and kept glasses filled. At the opposite end of the spectrum was Le Bistro. From start to finish, everything about this restaurant was exceptional. Our server, Crystal, made our evening by engaging with us while ensuring we were treated like royalty. The food was the best on the ship: Côq au vín, filet mignon, and the fish entrée choices all were amazing, as were the appetizers and the desserts. The shows were great, especially the Choir of Man and the Beatles Invasion. We liked the amount of entertainment (musicians) in the smaller venues like the Observation Deck (lived the "Soundclippers!). Our verandah stateroom was clean and modern but small and difficult to negotiate, even with just two people in the room. The verandah was also small, with two chairs and a small table taking up most of the room. Our stateroom attendant, Roni, was superb. Cleanliness in common areas was good but not great, especially disinfection. Despite regular handwashing, one of our party contracted a respiratory virus while onboard. Debarking at ports was a nightmare due to zero instructions in advance on what to do or expect. We also did not receive any info on final debarkation, disposition of luggage, or luggage tags. When queried, guest services blamed our NCL travel consultant for not giving us those details, which is just passing the buck. Despite the stressors and disappointments mentioned, we did have a wonderful time. However, in the future, we will probably stick to higher quality cruise lines such as Disney.

Positive experience: Amazing staff except for the guest services I stopped in and showed them the thing I had for port valet, the guy said everything was in order but when we didn’t get our luggage tags when everyone else did I went down and ask what the deal was , they said I wasn’t enrolled even though a few days earlier they said everything was fine. I had 2 emails and a paper from ncl saying we were enrolled , anyway I wouldn’t be upset if they wouldn’t have told me everything was good, so our entire Sunday we planned in Seattle was ruined because we had to drag around all of our luggage , ship and food was good but they nickel and dime you to death

Negative experience: Review of Norwegian Bliss If you want to feel like cattle, this cruise is for you. Overall, our first cruise experience was very disappointing. The go-karts were slow and overpriced, and the mini golf course had only five holes—hardly worth the time. The buffet food became repetitive by day two, with little variety after that. The casino staff were rude and unhelpful, which made that experience especially frustrating. One of the worst moments was when we left the “Do Not Disturb” sign on our door, only to have a staff member walk in without knocking. Even after we asked him to leave, he insisted the room had to be cleaned—completely awkward and disrespectful. Be prepared to take the stairs, as getting an elevator often meant waiting in packed lobbies with long lines. The ship felt overcrowded and chaotic, far from the relaxing experience we had hoped for. Nearly everything costs extra, from basic drinks like water and soda to Wi-Fi, making it feel like we were being nickel-and-dimed at every turn. Gratuity is automatically charged daily, whether or not the service was good (and in our case, it often wasn’t), which felt unfair. There were a few specific frustrations worth mentioning: The local bar was the only one open between meals, and it was always overcrowded. We left multiple times after being seated because we couldn’t get any service. The diner near our room was never open, despite checking several times—very disappointing. We paid over $400 to upgrade our room, only to be placed next to the elevators. We were woken up constantly by the loud ding every time an elevator arrived. To make it worse, the crew vacuumed the halls around 8 a.m. every morning, which disrupted the few mornings we wanted to sleep in. A group of young adults in the room next to us partied into the early morning hours, blasting music and shouting at 5 a.m.—obviously not ideal when you’re trying to rest on vacation. Good luck finding a place to sit on the observation deck; it was always packed. Suggestions for improvement: Offer more meaningful and engaging activities. Include basic amenities like water, soda, and Wi-Fi in the upfront price. Improve TV and entertainment options in the rooms. Rethink the mandatory gratuity system to reflect actual service quality. By the end, we couldn’t wait to get off the ship. This was not the kind of vacation we expected or hoped for. Also you will be charged $20/person per day, forced gratuity!!

Positive experience: Alaska-Kreurfahrt mit Norwegian Bliss Anfang Mai. Start in Seattle, alles klappt gut, Organisation wirklich hervorragend.

Negative experience: Good things about our ship. Bathrooms in the cabins were very nice. Bad things about our ship. Everything else. It was the dollar store of cruise lines. We had a few good experiences with the staff. But most don't speak English well enough to understand your questions. We were also amazed at how many times we were told "no" the staff isn't allowed to go out of their way to make any accommodations. We lost weight on the cruise because the food was so bad. Some of the specialty restaurants were good but not all. I could max out this page with the individual things we were disappointed with about norwegian. I can only say that many of the other passengers were grumbling about how bad this ship is also. Avoid norwegian.

Positive experience: Meh. Bliss was too crowded. The entire experience was a nickel and dime vibe. Alaska was great, and good shore excursions, especially Rain Forest hike. Last cruise for me, money is better spent otherwise. At all costs, avoid the spa. Up-sell anxiety ruined the entire experience. They give Timeshare sales a run for their money.

Positive experience: Unfortunately we went at the end of the season aboard the Encore and even skipped a stop due to bad weather which we weren’t informed of until the morning of the stop. Checking in was great. I did enjoy the room. The statesman was kind. The entertainment was lack luster and seemed a bit lacking. The magic show maybe had two tricks. There are ton of bars but it’s essentially all the same. I did enjoy the buffet because there were a lot of different options. We also tried Savor and Taste but the manhattan room was our favorite. The Casino also wasn’t that great. No free drinks after spending a certain amount at the table games like most cruises. The desk staff was always rude. Someone even hung up on us when we called from the room to ask about gratuities. The toddler room is basic and they loop the same movies everyday. Overall, the expectations for the price were high but unmet.

Negative experience: The good: Absolutely the best staff ever. Worth every tip! The Local restaurant was very good. Dining rooms were very good too! Gr8 bands. Superb fun as hell Go Carts! American Dinner was good. Dan,Dan Cruise Director was hilarious.Cagneys was amazing! Worth the upcharge! The bad: Nothing to do. Poor shops. Poor karaoke venue. Minimal hot tubs. Gross lido food. Nickel and diming everything. Port cancelled by NCL and NCL kept everyones prepaid port fees! Even Fatima the DSM refused to return everyones port fees. CLIA needs to enforce best practise procedures for port fees. At one time NCL used to be the leader in innovations for the entire cruise industry but now they have nothing to offer imo. I am staying with Carnival.

Positive experience: It's been over a decade since I've cruised with Norwegian. The last time I sailed with them as a solo woman, I was not treated very well. My room was on deck 4, where passengers exited and returned to the ship for excursions and what have you. It was also the deck on which crew were housed. Considering I was charged double for this trip, I should have been provided a room on the passenger decks! The couple of times I had dinner in a restaurant, I was given the worst seat in the room and overlooked for considerable periods of time by the wait staff. On one occasion, I left the table to use the restroom and when I returned, they had cleared the table and seated new guests there!! While the trip itself was quite lovely (Western Caribbean), the on-board experience was not. This, by the way, was not my first cruise with NCL, but it was my first solo cruise. I am again cruising solo on NCL next month to Alaska. Let's hope it's a much better experience.

Positive experience: I like the vibes on the Norwegian cruises. Sure, there are a few jerks in the bunch of servers, but that's everywhere you go. Norwegian is truly unlimited alcohol beverages, they always have good shows, and the dance clubs and bars are stellar.

Fantastic experience: Great Alaska cruise. The staff was polite, helpful and professional at all times. The entertainment and cuisine was first class. While my cabin was a bit smaller than a typical hotel room, it had much better views, and I could have chosen a larger one. And in all fairness, I don't believe anyone spent much time in their cabin. There was too much to do in a week long cruise. The only downside I can think of was the choice of ports in Ketchikan. We docked a 20 minute drive from downtown, which had empty docks as we were the only and last ship of the year. We were provided with a bus to downtown, but the line was 40 minutes long, with a 20 minute drive, each direction. This removed 2 full hours from a port we were only in for 4 hours, which was disappointing. However, as it was late in the season, all the shops were closed until spring, with only 2 remaining open, so we did have time to visit both establishments.

Negative experience: If you want to pay $3,000 to get on a boat where they charge you to do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING go right ahead. They take complete advantage of the customer and everything is catered to the "elite" customer which they make clear it heir Haven Suited which translates to people without money don't get to enjoy the boat. It's disgusting. They should be ashamed.

Positive experience: First time cruising and went to Alaska on the "Bliss" I highly recommend this cruise line. The staff were an absolute delight and did everything to make us comfortable. I'd suggest not booking a late flight home or find somewhere to store your bags. Only issue was the long wait and the airport after disembarking or your Seattle with all your luggage. Food was delicious, the buffet had it all!!! Tons of stuff to see and do.

Positive experience: Part 1-We had a party of 20 that took the Norwegian Sun to Alaska from 9/27-10/7. Definitely alot of PROS but some CONS. I'll do the break down so it makes it easier for people to decide. Buffet Food- overall food experience was 7.5/10 Buffets/ breakfast- this was the same thing over each day! Blah scrambled eggs, sausage was average, bacon wasn't too bad, fruit was either very plain or average tasting, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, cream of wheat, coffee, orange juice were average, nothing to brag about. The other juices were not good by any means. Bagels and English muffins were all outside on the back deck and just normal bread in the garden buffet. Very odd that they weren't all together. 6.5/10 for breakfast buffet Buffet/lunch- Lunches weren't to bad honestly, you did have many varieties to choose from. Salad bar wasn't the best but was decent. They had hamburgers and hot dogs every single day, and all the fixings to go along with it. They did have other dishes, some chinese, some indian, some Mexican and that was nice. You could even make sandwiches as well. Cookies, cakes and sweet treats were available too. Cheesecake was dry due to being frozen for storage, cookies were fantastic tho! The unlimited amounts of soft serve started at lunch time going to 8:30pm for self serve and 9:30pm for being served by staff. Should allow self serve soft serve to go later in my opinion. Over all lunch buffet experience would be 7.5/10 Buffet/dinner- this was basically the swme menu as lunch but they did do something "special" each night like whole ham, suckling piglet, full turkey roast, roast beef, gamish hens, chicken drum sticks. But what wasnt available for lunch was fish and the fish was surprisingly delightful for dinner in a bunch of different styles! And if you're vegan or vegetarian don't expect there to be much food for you because you'll be sadly disappointed. If you want vegan or vegetarian meals then don't go on a cruise! Again same desserts as lunch, overall dinner buffet 8.5/10 Now to the fancy dinners- we ate at the 7 seas, and 4 seas and they are on different floors but have the same menus, sort of, but the food was very good and good quality, quantity was smaller but you can choose as many entrees, appetizers and desserts you want! Just make sure to not be wasteful! I averaged at each meal 2 apps, 1-2 entrees and 1 dessert. (See photos that are set up fancy.) We also went to CHAGNEYS and I read some others reviews and they aren't 100% accurate. This restaurant was very good, good size portions! Lamb was good, Prime rib was good, filet mignon was great and the sides were good portion too! Lobster and shrimp was great too! Desserts were awesome! Would recommend this restaurant! 8.75/10 There is one bar that had the buffet next to the sports bar, and the pizza was from 11:30-3pm I believe and the pho soup station was there to and that was delicious and so was the pizza! Highly recommend 9/10 Bars- I don't drink alcohol but my wife does and for her to get the drink package I had to aswell per the "rules" of the cruise so drinks aren't shared which I find ridiculous! The drinks are good drinks tho but just remember there is a catch, "top shelf" alcohol is a different package which cost much more snd you get bottles of water with that but the normal drink package you get bottom and middle shelf alcohol drinks and soft drinks, no bottle waters but there is fill stations in the buffets. I got all my drinks virgin in hopes to get my moneys worth. Average drink is $15 without the package so if you and your spouse aren't big on drinking, save your money on the drink packages and have moderation and just pay for the drinks. Cash tips go a long ways to with the bartenders ; ) I'll continue my reviews in part 2 and 3

Negative experience: If I could give less than a one-star review, I would. This company is terrible!!! BUYER BEWARE!!! Everything is a hassle with this company; the food is awful, and no one at the front desk will help you while cruising ( after you wait in line for more than one hour). They refer you to the "corporate office," and then the "corporate office tells you, oh, so sorry, the cruise is now over. We can no longer offer compensation. It was a TOTAL run around, not to mention they canceled half of our trip, and we paid $12,000.00 or a family of 4 to be held hostage on a boat with 4,000 other people being nickel and dimmed the entire trip eating school lunch buffet quality food for 4 of the seven days of our trip. ALL entertainment costs extra or is just mediocre at best, and to top it all off, we came home with the following. one has the flu, one has COVID, and the other has bronchitis. Needless to say, we will NEVER be using Norwegian for a trip. We will tell everyone we know and continue to post in groups and on all social media accounts to warn others of this company's scams. Reviews matter and the 3.2 stars are no lie; trust what you read from others here. I wish we had taken these reviews more seriously.

Fantastic experience: We sailed 9/14-9/21. Everything was a breeze. NCL is a finely oiled machine. We were on the Bliss. Many complain about the time in port but when you think about the distance covered, 5 ports, fitting in excursions the do a phenomenal job. People complain about the elevators ..what do you expect with 4000 people....walk take the stairs if able and leave the elevators for those who need them! The shows show are first rate. The food is exquisite from the buffet, to the specialty restaurants to the complimentary restaurant and light breakfast and lunch in the observation lounge ...to die for! I ate a small chocolate croissant daily, the quiche is very tasty! The spa is beyond belief with different saunas, a salt room, a snow room, the therapy pool, the view, the heated loungers, don’t listen to the complainers! The staff is 68% Filipino, and 55 other nationalities! They do a tremendous job, the sing songs so people wash their hand before going into the buffet. The entertainment, line dancing instruction in the atrium, trivia games, audience participation is so much fun! Beatle tribute band performed three times,, I saw them all - all were different eras. The Jersey Boys and Icons Broadway shows great! Sure the internet is not perfect but what do you expect, on a ship in the ocean or between mountains, with 4000 people trying to login. Casino was fun! Hours are limited, we made a profit nightly! It’s the Bliss, the Hull was painted by the artist, Wyland! Go and enjoy.

Negative experience: My wife and I went on the Norwegian Bliss Alaska cruise Sept 7-14, 2024. The scenery and Alaska was beautiful , the weather was wonderful, but unfortunately I must say we were both extremely disappointed with the cruise itself. The staff were friendly, but not personable, or interactive with the guest. They are just there methodically doing their assigned tasks. The onboard entertainment was boring at best. There was no excitement, just bland, and stale. There was basically no physical entertainment, no dance floors or even any decent music to dance to. You just sit and watch or listen. The food in the main dining was mediocre, repetitive and was not very appetizing. We had purchased “Specialty Dining” with our package and again we were very disappointed. We ate at Q Smokehouse, my wife ordered the Salmon, it was over cooked and dry. They replaced it with shrimp skewers and the shrimp was so over seasoned she couldn’t eat it. I had the Pit Platter, the brisket was over done and chewy. The sides were so small it was ridiculous. Our last night we ate at Cagney’s, the on board steak house. I was so excited after waiting all week for the Prime Rib only to be once again completely disappointed. The prime rib came out cold and undercooked, again the sides so small. We can’t forget to mention all the hidden charges that they don’t tell you about when booking the cruise. Every day there are extra charges for this or that. Like they want to make sure they get everything bit of money out of you that they can. Our ports of call were nice but very short, some as little as only 4 hours. You pay all that money for a cruise and your off and back on the ship so quick you don’t get to enjoy the port of call. I gave 1 star for our stateroom. We paid a little more and got a larger balcony room. The room was nice with a bigger shower and the views from the balcony were awesome. Overall we were totally disappointed and would not recommend this particular cruise to anyone. Several other passengers that we spoke to were expressing the same concerns and frustrations, and disappointments that we were experiencing.

Negative experience: Crappy customer service. The cruise itself was great. Food was great, accommodations were nice, and the staff were great. But, their customer service sucked. They offered a deal to buy one airfare and get one free. I was stupid and took the bait. They charged me $838, which was more than me and my wife's airfare combined. So, she didn't fly free. Plus, they gave us the latest flight home, 11:59 pm. We got off the boat at 9:00 am. So, we spent 14 hours in the airport and it took us 27 hours to get home. When I contacted Norwegian about the late flight before the cruise, I told them there was a flight leaving Seattle at 12:44 pm and I wanted to be switched to that flight. They told me they don't have access to all of American Airlines flight times. I could cancel my deal with them, but it would cost me $150. I asked American about switching flights, but they said I needed to wait once I got to Seattle. If I switched flights at my home airport, it would be considered a new flight and cost me a regular airfare rate. While on the cruise, I contacted American about switching flights. They couldn't switch me, because of the way Norwegian set up the airfare. American said Norwegian has access to all of their flight times. I went to the Norwegian customer service desk and tried to get them to switch my flight, but they told me they couldn't do it. They again said they do not have access to American's flight times. I told them what American said, and they said they were not being honest. By the time we got back to Seattle Airport, the earlier flight was gone. So, we were stuck in Seattle for 14 hours and it took us 27 hours to get home. I will think long and hard before I EVER allow the cruise line to book my flights again. The "package deal " is no deal at all.

Negative experience: Norwegian Bliss (07-14 Sept 2024) We were fortunate to have beautiful weather throughout our cruise. We enjoyed clear skies and saw plenty of wildlife, including a dozen whales, during our excursions. However, our experience on the Norwegian Bliss was marred by several issues. From the start, it was clear the ship was understaffed. Upon boarding, no rooms were ready, and we were told to wait before accessing our staterooms. Dining reservations were problematic; we only found slots for Teppanyaki and Cagney’s at 9:15 pm, and the theater showed Jersey Boys at a late 9:30 pm time. Icons was fantastic, while Levity was funny but a bit raunchy. Overall, the ship's entertainment was lacking, with limited shows and too many 'self-led' events and shopping times. Service in the rooms was inconsistent. Despite requesting service via the 'Service Room' light, our rooms were often left untouched for hours. When cleaned, the service was impersonal, with no towel animals or special touches. One instance included a nearly empty meal tray with just a few chocolates and cookies. Dining was another disappointment. The food at Savor and Taste was hit-or-miss, with repeated issues in getting steaks cooked correctly and long wait times. We were informed that the Bliss, being larger, lacked the personalized service of smaller ships. Specialty dining options were available but expensive, with mandatory 20% gratuity, making them costly even with meal packages. Complementary dining options were limited and often fully booked. My cousin, who has a severe onion allergy, experienced issues with his meal due to contamination concerns. The theater was one of the smallest I've encountered on a ship of this size. An incident involving a malfunctioning bathroom door highlighted a lack of attentive service, as staff were slow to respond to the situation. Overall, I cannot recommend the Norwegian Bliss. The ship was short-staffed, lacked adequate entertainment and dining options, and did not provide the level of service expected for the price. I would suggest exploring other cruise options for a better experience.

Negative experience: The Norwegian Encore is the worst cruise ship I have ever been on. If you’re considering a cruise to Alaska, DO NOT TAKE NORWEGIAN. Customer Service: The customer service was the worst I have ever experienced. I booked restaurant reservations twice, but they were never honored. The staff made me feel like a burden and treated me like a second-class citizen. Sickness: Many passengers fell ill on the third or fourth day of the cruise, with widespread coughing. If you needed to see a doctor on board, they charged $200 and were available only during certain hours. When asked to check body temperature, they claimed they didn’t have the equipment. Food: The food lacked variety and was excessively salty. Docking: The ship was docked farther from the ports at every stop compared to other cruises. Entertainment: There were very few shows.

Negative experience: Arrived back from Alaska Cruise, we were told to leave luggage in front of cabin door. Left ship to luggage area and my luggage was not present. Staff told us it’s their part time job. They would call us bc they think it may have been shipped to airport. No call received. No luggage. Stuck in Seattle without anything waiting for a call. We need to hear back from someone. Today is 08/25/24

Negative experience: Just finished a 7 day cruise on Bliss. Staff were very friendly and helpful for the most part. Food was OK. Not what I expected for a cruise. We did have 2 really good meals in the Manhatten Lounge. Everything was an extra charge. Got too pricey. Norweign made all our arrangements for airline. Big mistake, flight home was 16 hours after disembarking the ship. Took 24 hours after disembarking to get home to Michigan. Should have made our own arrangements would have been cheaper and more convenient. Next time smaller ship and different cruise line.

Negative experience: Very poor customer service. Seven bartenders only 6 customers. I asked for a water from the bartender before I ordered my drinks and he told me go to the buffet to get water. Frustrating. Every hostess I have encountered is lacking customer service or unless they are working for the as law enforcement in a police state. Waitress and Watiers did a great job. Choose a different cruise line when you are headed to Alaska. Hardest part for me is that we tip over what the ship requires.

Negative experience: I am giving 1 star for the food in Garden cafe and punctuality of the culinary staff for cleaning everything. But it stops there! We just got back from 7 day trip to Alaska on NCL Bliss. The itinerary is terrible and really poor port timings. Juneau and Ketchikan have really bad port timings and really short. Ketchikan port is far away from Downtown when all other cruises like Princess dock right in downtown. We were told to take the last shuttle at 11:30 for cruise departure at 1 but the line extended nearly half a mile and we spent 1 hour standing in the line while all other cruise passengers enjoyed the town. NCL knows how bad they are in Ketchikan but still don’t have enough shuttles. No wonder they left behind a family of 9 last month. Inside the cruise is nice but way way overcrowded in all places. People roam around like vultures (complaining really about NCL here) and reserve seats whenever they get a chance. The half day tour around Dawes glacier saw huge overflow in observation deck and all other places. Wish they did not get so many people on the ship at once. Ice straits is owned by NCL and they do spend quite a bit of time there to sell passengers on their own tours. There is nothing to do there really, bliss can easily avoid stopping there and give back time in Juneau and Ketchikan. The biggest surprise was their final bill at 4AM of $20 per person per day service charges. I booked two rooms and put down my credit card in both rooms. I was not able to link the reservations as NCL said they do not support it. They took out credit card from one of the rooms as it was duplicate. They asked me to come to guest services before disembarkation to settle the charge. After standing in line for 30 minutes (there was just one person at the onsite credit counter), they demanded to bring my parents in person to settle the charges. I again went back and got my parents navigating fully loaded elevators and they did not even need their signatures to let me pay for the room. If you want to really see Alaska, don’t take NCL or atleast bliss. NCL will mint you for money and do not care about how much crowding they do. Stay away!

Positive experience: Rooms are nice, staff is very kind and welcoming. Port stops have been far away from town centers and shuttle buses have been a challenge. Onboard internet isn’t very good, and they have their own definition of “Internet cafe” here - it’s just a tech support center for people to get help with paid WiFi plans, not actually a place to get online.

Negative experience: I hope to change this rating if an opportunity arises but I must say that the experience was fine until the very end. For some context, My father is 85 (born before WWII started) and wanted to go see Alaska while he was still able to so we believe this to be the perfect opportunity to do just that. After spending a total close to $8000 dollars on the cruise for just between the two of us ($5.3k room, $1.6k excursions) and bringing our large party of around 40 individuals, we imagine we'd be treated like a human customer and not a dollar sign. I had booked in advance 5 excursions where 3 were acceptable in expectation but the other 2 were poorly executed and felt forced upon us due to the monetary gain. I called after the cruise was over (didn't want to ruin the rest while I'm paying for the time to be on the cruise) which basically conveys that they don't take calls into this matter (already the beginning of a poor customer service experience which they tout to be genuinely considerate and cannot be farther from the truth) so I was forced to write my complaint and at least initially it wasn't a complaint it was more of me trying to convey in human form how I was upset that my old father and I were forced into false advertising and would like to be refunded from those unpleasant experiences. I was told because I didn't file this while on the ship (i.e. use the time i paid for on the ship to bring ownership to the cruise) vs after (and I mean a day or so after), there was no other, even exceptional course of action to refund me which is outrageous to hear from a $8.9B in annual revenue company where I'm just looking to reclaim $440 dollars. Look plain and simple, if you're going to charge my old man and I $440 dollars on things that were said or situations that were forced upon us like eating cold crab legs in pouring rain with heaters that barely work and say that's worth $220 dollars, you are absolutely outside of your mind. The excursion folks should've gathered their common sense and said, "Yep this sucks cause its raining and people shouldn't be eating crab legs outside in the pouring rain while cold, just give them their money back and call it a day" (this did not happen). If Norwegian claims to advocate and be extremely courteous to their customers, I had not witness this at the end of my trip with my father. This easily allows me to second guess which cruise line I'd would book with in the future as before I had no qualms with Norwegian. Lessons learned? you'll need to use the time you paid for to be on the cruise to complain about the excursion you paid for that made the experience unpleasant. You're not even guaranteed any compensation at this moment so good luck as it might cause you anxiety, blood pressure, and precious time not enjoying a show with your old man to make your point. That's the rules apparently at Norwegian. Imagine forcing an 85 year old man to eat in the rain, in the cold, crabs you can get at red lobster paying $200 for that experience. Oh but they did offer a "gesture of good will" that would give my father and I $100 dollars each for our next cruise with Norwegian as long as it is used in the next 12 months! There's nothing I'd want to spend my hard earn cash more on than a company that treated me like this! (Sarcasm) Constructive Criticism for Norwegian: Hold your excursions accountable for common sense potential bad experiences. Don't make people sit out in the rain to eat cold food and charge them $200 bucks for it. Allow a window of at least a week for the arbitration process to be AFTER the cruise has ended as I'm still trying to salvage the remaining good experience I can have with my father enjoying the cruise and not being required to file a complaint on my and his experience time. I truly believe if you fix these two points, the customer experience will be significantly better.

Positive experience: Love the cruise onboarding and disembarking was great the only minus was that there have been not enough time in the ports if you did excursion you did not have time to walk the restaurants and gift shops that were in every destination I do like to try local food and there was not enough time to do so

Negative experience: I do not reccomend this cruiseline, especially if you are a first time cruiser. There is too much disorganization and not enough effort in the customer experience. Excursions facilitated and booked through NCL were very scattered, and hard to figure out. The food was fine, but expect basic offerings. The childrens offerings are scattered throughout the day, and dont accomodate most families, especially if you are coming from the east coast and wanting to utilizing dinner or adult activities in the early evening. There are not many places to just sit. The observation lounge is always crowded, and patrons save many seats they never sit in. I was told on three different occasions this week an unmarked seat was saved for someone, only for that person to never arrive. The entertainment is sporatic and centered mainly around the atrium of the ship, a hub where people are coming and going but with the lack of seating for the amount of people wishing to attend. The room stewart was kind and did a good job overall. There was frequently an air of “not my job” at the front desk sections. (I stopped to turn in a lost airpod, only to be told by the empty excursion desk person my only option was to wait on a 50 deep person guest services line.) I cruised specifically for the ports, and for those i feel it was worth it. But the on board experience was just overall lacking and left me eager to book on another line in the future.

Fantastic experience: We traveled on the Norwegian Bliss at the beginning of July, 2024. The crew was incredible! The kids area was clean and orderly. There were always friendly and welcoming faces when my 4yr old came back to see them. Everything was clean, organized and well put together. I honestly can't see myself on any other cruise ship other than the Bliss.

Fantastic experience: This was my eighth cruise, second with Norwegian. Getting on the ship was a breeze. No issues whatsoever. It was very streamlined. Same thing with getting off the ship. We carried our luggage ourselves. There was no line in getting off. We didn’t have to go through customs. My guess for that would be because we only went to Alaska, a US State. We used Seattle Express for our transfers. The Norwegian Bliss was wonderful. Great food, great excursions, excellent activities, and friendly staff.

Negative experience: A+ crew at the peir and on board the buffet crew was fantastic. I was underwhelmed by this cruise line ( I have been on many other cruise lines, and this one we tried for our Alaska cruise, and it was a let down.) The kids club wasn't the friendliest and didn't have much for the kiddos to do. The staff in the spa were awful and rude. The food on board was sub-par. I would 100% do Alaska again but never again with NCL.

Negative experience: We went on an Alaskan cruise on the Norwegian Bliss. it was probably one of the worst vacations I have ever had. They had their own ports which were quite further from the towns we were visiting. You had to be off the boat so early and back on so early so there wasn't much time. It was Las Vegas and Disneyland on the boat. Lines for everything. The boat was huge with 5000 passengers in 2000 crew. Music was very loud morning noon and night. The elevators were always full. The bathrooms were disgusting. The food was really bad. There was a lot of sales pitches like spa and jewelry and stuff like that. Our last stop was Victoria BC. They got there at 8:30 PM and you had to be back on the boat by 11:30 PM -what a joke seeing Victoria in three hours at night which included a bus ride to the town and bus ride back. I would give it zero stars. A lot of money for a terrible experience. I would give zero stars if I could.

Negative experience: WORST VACATION of my life!!! Everyone is so rude. They are the most unorganized group of jokes I’ve ever encountered. They have no back up plan for anything, and extremely poor communication. Server went out and they had no clue how to do anything, closed everything and wouldn’t even let us get out in Canada. This company will nickel and dime you but are the worst greeds when you try to get a dime back!!! I paid for things I didn’t end up receiving so will be disputing those charges with my bank. Lesson learned, never go Norwegian. They suck sooooo incredibly much. The pillows were so flat and empty it didn’t even feel like you had one. The buffet was garbage. Super greasy undercooked bacon, everything pre made had EVERYTHING on it such as blt had mayo. They never refilled the orange juice. You couldn’t relax or browse the stores cause you’re constantly nagged for sales. It’s the most annoying awful experience I’ve ever had. Literally everything about Norwegian is a nightmare. What a waste of freaking money for these incompetent fools.

Negative experience: Be aware that the fees on your account that you think are incorrect need to be addressed while on ship. Positive experience: The ship itself Is fabulous. The staff were top-notch friendly, helpful and made this trip very enjoyable. Anything you would be needing is on this ship. Depending on the package that you get.. We had 2 Specialty dinner for 2 people.. The Texas restaurant in there was not good whatsoever and waste of our specialty meal...And we had unlimited drinks. And the thing with that is that every time? We use your car and your pain. A 20% send gratituity or every drink. Which is really strange to me. Anything below $15 that is not a charge. Thank you, you're a tour of their spa. And of course, they offer you 20% 10% 5% off of 3 separate services. I got a massage, a facial and pedicure manicure. Which cost me about $600. Not including their 20% gratituity or each of those services. It seem they just kind of nickled and dimed you on Everything. We had a spa room w balcony Which gave us Access to their spa. At any time, they had a pool. A Jacuzzi, a salt room, a steam room, a snow room, a sauna, and a dry sauna. All very good they also had heated seats that looked out onto the ocean. From the time that we were there, we didn't see more than maybe 5 people at 1 time in the whole area of the amenities which was wonderful.... Just doesn't know the excursions where pretty nice, I'll go. The rains from about $250 for a 4 hour excursion. There are locals at the ports when you get off that offer you the same trip at a much less price... They are also have a social club there, which is really cool. They offer comedy shows, musicals and one night that I went down there. They had dancing, that was really fun..

Positive experience: Had a great time, We wish some of the stops were a bit longer and lines to disembark the last morning were a nightmare, our time to get off ship was 8:30 and was ready waiting for them to call our color and steward asked us to vacate the cabin so he could start cleaning it. There was nowhere to go the hallway near the elevator was full and the stairwell was corded off and couldn't go down. Had to stand in hallway by my cabin door. Never got to ride the go carts and hot tubs were always full of little kids. Large variety of good food. The Choir of Man show was the best show ever! Loved our balcony room. Positive experience: Recently returned from Alaska on the Bliss. Alaska was beautiful, our room was good, and almost all of the Norwegian employees did a great job. Unfortunately, Norwegian has a few things that should be improved. First, they could not handle the Bliss with 4,000 guest. The elevators were packed and we often took the steps for 5 or 10 flights. Next, the buses and lines for everything in port were too long. Norwegian has it's own port/dock which requires a line (or two, or three lines) and a school bus ride to/from town, while the other cruise ships dock right in town. So, that's like 60/90 minutes off of the brief time we had in the town. Excursions were very expensive. We had to pay another couple hundred dollars to upgrade the 'free Wifi' to 'unlimited Wifi'. Next, had some trouble with drinks not available or not covered under the $15 drink limit, which was a little surprising a couple times, like for the Alaska Duck Fart drink. Also, I asked for a bourbon shot from the menu and when it was not available the bartender recommended Ten High Bourbon. Ha!! I have that in my home cabinet and the 1.75 liter bottle cost me about $17. The bartenders should be instructed to be liberal, not stingy, when things on the menu are not available. Additionally, was surprised by the 10% additional cost for drinks while in/near some of the ports. That's fine, but should have been warned before hand, as they knew it was coming. Airport luggage, bus transfer, and final check-in process was very painful. The Bliss beer bar was very good. Our room steward was good. Most of the food workers and bartenders were very good. Steak restaurant was very good. With some improvements, Norwegian can boost this Alaska adventure to 5/5.

Negative experience: Travel June 11th thru 18th on Birthday Cruise, it started out just like every other one. The Shows were top of the line, The Choir of Men (outstanding). Shore excursions lots of good options, so try one or all. NOW COME THE BAD PART, This ship has a lack of keeping visitors informed, playing slots around 2:30 pm on sail day knowing we had until tomorrow to exit ship, they all sudden came around and said were closing down at 3pm would have been nice to inform earlier. NOW last night of Dinner was the WORST, EVERYTHING I ASK FOR TOOK OVER 25 MINUTES, LIKE A STEAK KNIFE, BUTTER, FOR A DRINK, I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE 25 MINUTES BECAUSE SHE HAD TO GO ONE FLIGHT OF STAIRS UP TO THE BAR. Order Sirloin steak Med, when it arrived it was still mooing being rare, not sure it was even cooked. They only allow one glass of water for our table as no one would come by and fill our glass. My Wife order the lave cake when it arrived it was cold as Ice. Norwegian I own a lot of stock in this company but first thing Monday SELLING all. I have been on Princess cruises several time and never wrote a review like this. One last thing all the booze was free and YOU charge for a bottle of water, keep your ship, keep your water, Never again. Dave P.S. As I mentioned in the beginning it was a Birthday Cruise, She forgot the cake so we just left.

Negative experience: Go with a different brand if you want to enjoy your experience. Dishonest, bait and switch, nickel and dime, cheap, whatever word you choose, this company's policies are some of the shadiest, most reprehensible I've come across, not only in the cruise and tourism industry, but anywhere. I have been on Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and now Norwegian cruise lines. I really really didn't like Carnival, but I would take them in a heartbeat over Norwegian. Not only is it the worst of the three, it was one of the most frustrating and angering vacations I have ever had. While the onboard staff were fantastic, trying to deal with the guest service desk to resolve the many issues was a nightmare and they make it clear, they really don't care about resolving the issue. A few examples: We got to our stateroom only to find it hadn't been cleaned, looked like the last folks couldnt hit the sink or toilet. After it had been "cleaned" there were still hairs on the shower walls, coffee spills (and something greasy) on the nightstand and table. Made reservations for several activities only for the ship to change or cancel without notification. There was an hour long line for the service desk the entire time, so I know we were not the only people unhappy. Sure, we got refunded the fee, but not so much as an explanation, apology for inconvenience and time wasted. Another example-had reservations for the 6 minute go-kart ride and were in line for over an hour only to find out they only had 4 double carts available and my son, who is tall enough for a single, was too short for the double, whats the point in reservations when you have to wait that long, thank goodness we didnt have other activities until much later. The food was fine, nothing to write home about. Again, most of the staff were wonderful, my complaints relate to the communication and onboard processes that are taken care of at a higher level and with the desk staff, bless their hearts, who are so overwhelmed with unhappy customers that they cease to even pretend to care. The bulk of the onboard experience felt like being nickel-and-dimed and bait-and-switch cons. Shame on you Norwegian, you give the industry a bad name.
