Fantastic experience: We had such a wonderful experience with this tour. The food and drinks were outstanding, the historical information added to our understanding and appreciation of Greenville, the people we met on the tour with us were interesting, friendly, and kind, and our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We loved this tour and would take again.

Fantastic experience: We scheduled a West End Walking Tour at the last-minute and are so happy we did. "Big Chuck" was a great guide and a wealth of knowledge. He told stories we will never forget and helped us fall in love with Greenville.

Fantastic experience: Our family had a great tour with “Big Chuck” of the Falls Park area! The weather wasn’t great, but Big Chuck still made it fun and we learned some very interesting Greenville history that we never knew about! Thank you Big Chuck and Greenville History Tours, we will definitely sign up for another tour in the future!

Fantastic experience: This was our first tour but not our last!! A resident since 1974. I would recommend this tour for those interested in having a better understanding of all the changes in this town the past 50 years. It was even more rich of an experience understanding the foresight of several very successful businessmen to invest in the upstate. After the tour we will be constantly reminded of these people when we see the street signs with the names recognizing those who preceded. Thank you John Nolan for these precious reminders. Even if you are from Greenville or have lived here for a while, do not miss this opportunity to see our town through a new lens.

Fantastic experience: We thoroughly enjoyed the Carolina Culinary Tour! The things that set this tour apart from others were the VARIETY of settings and the PACING of the day. We very much enjoyed the lunch meal at a snazzy country club in the foothills (including a unique cocktail) and the home-style early-dinner buffet in the countryside. But in between, we saw some beautiful country, learned about architecture, and heard historical stories of those who influenced what South Carolina is today. We saw the intriguing Poinsett Bridge and then a lovely tour of the Table Rock Tea growing plantation. The whole day was relaxed, with plenty of interspersed information and time to ask questions. The tour was a lovely way to spend the day and left us with a desire to tour again with John Nolan!

Fantastic experience: This is our second tour (Textile Mills driving tour) with "Greenville History Tours" it was phenomenal. We chose this specific tour, because we needed a driving tour (a member of our party has mobility issues) and we wanted to take the tour on a Friday. It did not disappoint. The van was comfortable, you could hear our guide very clearly, and it was packed with amazing information and items you could even touch and see. Great tour to show you around Greenville's vast history.

Fantastic experience: Visited on July 4th weekend with my husband and my parents. John was able to accommodate an unexpected trip delay and worked us in on another day, which was great. We really enjoyed the history tour and overview of the city, as it was our first time in Greenville. Would definitely recommend. Really enjoyed the accompanying slideshow in the van showing historical photos.

Fantastic experience: We did the BBQ food tour and the amount of food you get for the price is well worth it, not only in quantity but also quality. John was an amazing and knowledgeable tour guide. You get driven to all the locations and have informational presentations along the way. We’re definitely coming back and excited to do try his other tours.

Fantastic experience: We took the textile tour and bbq tour they were both informative. We enjoyed both tours John was friendly and knowledgeable learned some stuff I didn't know. The bbq tour was fun and food was delicious and plentiful. I would recommend you try it. He has a couple more tours that are of interest to me I may try. I would say look up his tours pick one and give it try.

I did the Tuesday evening tour, We received a full plate and cocktail pairing with each stop. The cuisine was high-end and each chef spoke about their dish and beverage pairing. I would and will revisit this tour again and again !!

Fantastic experience: Our dear friend came to town and since we have done walking tours with Greenville History tours before, I thought let’s do the Chef’s tour! I’m so glad we did! It was excellent! The food was phenomenal and John did a great job of providing history about Greenville in between the restaurants. I highly recommend taking this tour! When other people come visit - we would do it again. We are going to check out the other food tours he offers!

Fantastic experience: My wife and I had a fantastic time on our food tour. Exceeded expectations and it's not like our expectations were all that low. John clearly has a passion for food, history and the city of Greenville. As a native to Greenville, I learned MANY new facts that I hadn't known before. Even having been to all of the restaurants we visited, John made the experience unique and enjoyable anyway. I would not hesitate to send anyone his way and I will certainly give his History Tour a try as well. 10/10 would recommend!

Fantastic experience: John Nolan is a friendly and informative guide. His knowledge and passion for the history and architecture of Greenville are a welcome addition to the Culinary Tour. The food included a variety of delicious entrees and beverages; venison bolognese, shrimp & grits, and a sweet potato waffle w/ fried chicken. This time dinner concluded with a dessert and beverage of choice at Coffee Underground. This is the third time I've taken the tour and each time it's different and enjoyable. It's well worth your time and money.

Negative experience: Terrible communication!!!!! Had a confirmation for a breakfast tour and no one showed up!! Has not answered voicemail or text messages.. So far we are out our money.

The photos and artifacts he shared added much depth to the experience. John goes above and beyond to ensure everyone has a great time, taking the time to answer all of our questions. Fantastic experience: We did the West End Walking Tour and thoroughly enjoyed it! Our guide, Big Chuck, had many engaging stories and historical facts. He brought a large collection of photographs so you could easily visualize what buildings looked like 50 or 100 years ago. So glad we took this tour. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Way more of a tour than I expected. It was really helpful providing the screen in the car to show how historic buildings looked originally. I'm a history buff so pretty particular about information provided. This Greenville History Tour guide (& owner) knows his stuff. How? He's a native of the area AND knows EVERYONE in town so he gets the stories first hand. You won't go wrong selecting this tour outfit for all your touring interests. Looking forward to taking the food tour!!!

Fantastic experience: With a work group, I was privileged to be part of the Breakfast History Tour with John Nolan on 6/6/2024. John was very knowledgeable, informative, and added humor which is always a plus. He knew his stuff about the delicious eateries we visited as well. We stopped in at Southern Pressed for an AMAZING fruit/granola/mouse type bowl and drink. We had "Butter Me Up, and it was fabulous! Then, we moved on to Biscuit Head which was OMG ! We were served an "appetizer biscuit" that we could spread with items from the complimentary jelly/jam bar and fresh-squeezed orange or grapefruit juices. Then, we moved on to Le Petit Croissant for our outrageously beautiful breakfast "dessert"! Wow is all I can say!

Fantastic experience: I recently took the Historic Neighborhoods and Architecture driving tour. I can't recommend it more highly. As a first-time visitor to Greenville, the tour gave me precisely the overview of the city's history and architecture that I was looking for. John Nolan was the ideal tour guide -- extremely knowledgeable, genial and accommodating. Particularly noteworthy was his tour van, with a video screen that allowed him to share a wide array of images that amply fleshed out what we could out the windows. I only wish that I could have had three hours of his time rather than just 1.5 hours!

Fantastic experience: We did a history tour of Main Street with Big Chuck. He was wonderful! He did a great job of teaching us all about the history of Greenville! It was entertaining and fun, even on a rainy day! Highly recommend!

The food stops were delicious, & the scenery was gorgeous, & our tour guide, John Nolan (owner of the company), gave us a running commentary on the history of the area as we passed through it. A highlight was the tea farm with its own wonderful tour & tasting. Awesome day!

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend the Countryside Culinary Tour! We have lived in SC for six years and this was by far the most beautiful trip we have taken since we moved here. The Table Rock Tea Company was fascinating. Two food spots, Core 450 and Aunt Sue’s, were included and the food was delicious and the service excellent. John Nolan is extremely knowledgeable about Greenville’s history and makes an amazing tour guide. We look forward to attending more of his tours!

Fantastic experience: My dad and I went on the coffee tour. Would definitely recommend for Greenville natives and visitors alike who want to learn about both Greenville and general coffee history. Fantastic experience: This historical tour of Greenville is the best! The Mercedes Windowed van is so comfortable and John has a large video screen up front where he displays graphics and photos to enhance the info he is telling you. I took 3 members of my family and they really enjoyed it. It was my 2nd trip and you learn new things each time. We are going on a Food tour next! Fantastic experience: We visited Greenville for the first time this week to celebrate my husband's milestone birthday. This tour was outstanding! Our party of 8 raved about what a unique experience it was and that the food was delicious. We loved that our hosts educated us on the history of the town and even showed us historical photos from sites we visited on the walk. I'm just sorry we couldn't sample the food from all 211 downtown restaurants! When we come back we'll definitely try one of the other tours, maybe the BBQ tour, or the Coffee tour, or the Breakfast tour, oh heck we'll do them all!

Fantastic experience: We attended the Chef’s Table Tour with John. He was exceptional at explaining details of Greenville’s history and chose great restaurants! We enjoyed every dish as well as the fellowship with others in the group. We will definitely be returning for another tour in the future!

Fantastic experience: Would definitely recommend At The Chef's Table Culinary Tour. We had five hearty dishes at 4 restaurants. We were given historical info about Greenville while at the restaurants as well as during our short walks between each location. Felt very special to have the chefs describe their dishes and answer our questions. Was like I was Padma on Top Chef. We will sign up for another of John's tours the next time we're in town.

Fantastic experience: Greenville BBQ Trail Tour was our first tour with John. We enjoyed it so much we came back to try At the Chef's Table. Both were great. Delicious food and it was really nice to have the chefs tell you about the dishes they prepared. John really knows his history. He shared some pictures and gave us some fun historical facts about Greenville, SC. Highly recommend. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic experience: I have done two coffee tours with John now, and both of them were excellent! He is very knowledgeable, is always updating his historical and coffee-science information, has great recommendations, and is very fun to be around. The tour is great value for your money as well. I did one tour with a bachelorette group and one with my boyfriend, and all of us felt very welcomed and our excited, coffee lover energy was matched. I highly recommend GVL history tours!

Fantastic experience: I am a frequent visitor to John’s tour and I can’t say enough about all his tours. With that said, I don’t live in the area and I visit specifically for John’s tours. This was my second time on the Chefs Table and it is different every time. John loves food, his city, his history, and his restaurant partners. The chefs and managers make you feel welcomed. They make their dishes for your tour as if you were a reality show judge… They explain their dishes and answers questions. The drink pairings are well thought out. The dishes on this particular tour were great and the dessert was unbelievable. If your live in Greenville, this should be a frequent activity. If your live elsewhere, this is a must do. Will I go back… absolutely!

Fantastic experience: We have done 5 tours with John and loved each one. Tonight we celebrated my birthday by touring 4 super restaurants with some friends. Each of these top restaurants prepared a sample of their food accompanied by their choice of wine or cocktail. We listened to the chef explain his creation then the sommelier, or bartender explained the drink pairing... In between the great dining experiences John told us about the history of Greenville as we walked to the next culinary opportunity. Each location was fabulous. There was enough food to satisfy the most hungry members of the group, and the stories John told as we toured Greenville's downtown foodie area were fascinating. As I said, we have done a number of these tours and the food has been different each time. Amazingly John's history explanations have not been static, with each trip covering new ground. A great experience that every foodie should try!

Fantastic experience: John is a very personable and knowledgeable guide. No question stumped him! My aunt and I did the main street tour and the historic neighborhood tour. Especially loved the pictures of the house interiors he showed us on the large screen in the van. Loved the walk thru the new Grand Bohemian lobby! Highly recommend!!!

Fantastic experience: John conducts an excellent tour. I scheduled the Tuesday Night Chef's Table. I had a fantastic time enjoying the cuisine of downtown Greenville while learning about the city's history. Each restaurant took time to discuss the dishes they prepared and the accompanying wine. We had dessert at local creamery that was delicious! I met wonderful people not only from Greenville but all over the United States. We shared many stories and laughs over dinner.

Fantastic experience: My husband and I had a blast on this tour! A must for locals and visitors. Even if you have been to the restaurants on the tour, the chefs made options for us that were not on the menu and they were absolutely delicious. The tour guide was great and for the amount of food and drink you get, the price is extremely reasonable. They were also very accommodating of dietary restrictions. We will definitely be doing this again!

You get to visit popular local restaurants in one tour. Our guide, John, gives an introduction to the history of Greenville and that makes it even better. Next, I would like to take the BBQ tour.

Fantastic experience: My friend and I were picked up right in front of City Hall. Another couple joined, and we were on our way right on time. John is very informed and stopped many times with a large screen up front and showed us what Greenville looked like when it was first built. He was always happy to take questions at any time. I will recommend his tour to anyone Greenville bound.

I have lived in or around Greenville for most of my life and John shared history and interesting facts about Greenville that I never knew. John was so kind and gave a fabulous tour with just the right amount of history interspersed among the beauty of downtown Greenville. I will go back and take others.

Fantastic experience: I have been on several Foodie tours in different cities and this is certainly one of the best! John Nolan is SUCH a great host, and his passion both for the city's history, and the culinary experience itself, shows the whole time. The value for the money is extraordinary! We made 4 stops, at four very different restaurants, and there were cocktails or wine with each dish. I would have paid far more if I had gone to each of these places separately. The food was absolutely delicious, the company was great. I highly recommend you take this tour, well worth it!

Fantastic experience: We took the Mill & Villages Tour. We've lived in Greenville a little over a year and I was surprised how much new territory we discovered. John's a great guide and has an extensive knowledge of Greenville's history. It was very interesting to visit different sites while also looking at historical photos of the site. We'll definitely try other tours that John conducts.

Fantastic experience: I went on the breakfast tour with my sister and son and we had the best time! John was awesome and gave us lots of Greenville history and facts and the food was awesome. My sister said it was the highlight of the trip! My 4 yo son had a great time too! We will book again!

Negative experience: Had tour scheduled for months (paid for) got notice one day before tour that due to a “schedule conflict” need to cancel. Not a trustworthy business

Fantastic experience: My Sisters and I took the culinary tour, A Chef’s Table with owner, John Noble in Greenville on a Saturday afternoon. What an amazing way to spend the day. We stopped at 4 restaurants, the dishes and drinks were explained to us by the Chef and GM. Delicious food, great size portions and did I say, so good. Along the way, we were given lots of history about the exact area and restaurants. Would love to do the tour again. We met lots of great people from different areas of the country.

Fantastic experience: A friend and I enjoyed the breakfast tour on 8/5/22. We had a wonderful guide to take us around town. All three stops were delicious. We had a Bahama Mama at Southern Press, an amazing chicken biscuit and mimosa at Biscuit Head, and a yummy breakfast Taco at Papi's Tacos, along with a Watermelon Aqua Fresca. We went home to take naps. Will be doing this tour, and others, again.

Fantastic experience: John took us on the Historic West End Walking tour. In about an hour we got a really good overview of the history of the area/city and its transformation. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: I mistakenly believed this was a driving tour. When we showed up and told him my husband couldn't walk. He waited while I borrowed a wheelchair from the hotel next door and knew how to integrate elevators to keep us on the tour. He stayed with us and found an alternate when the first elevator didn't work and pushed the wheelchair to the next restaurant. When the tour was done he went and got his van to take us back to the hotel where I borrowed the wheelchair from. John gave it everything he had to make sure we had a great experience. Wholeheartedly Exceptional!

Fantastic experience: Booked the Chef's Table culinary tour as part of a work Christmas celebration and absolutely loved it. The portions were perfect so we all left full. Will definitely be booking again. Perfect for a girls night or date night too.

Positive experience: I got tickets for the Saturday afternoon culinary tour as a gift for my boyfriend. I requested information twice prior to the tour about handicap accessibility and never got a response. The tour itself was very nice and informative. However, it was extremely embarrassing at the very first restaurant when John happily began to lead the group down a steep, narrow, winding staircase. That was not something I could maneuver so before we even tasted our first dish, the group was held up due to John's blatant ignorance. An employee at the Lazy Goat helped me and my date to the elevator and we caught up with the group. I will add that after that, John redeemed himself somewhat. Another stop on our tour had us scheduled to dine upstairs and he contacted them to arrange ground level tables prior to our arrival time. So my boyfriend said he should get five stars. Being a handicapped person and getting the shaft on a regular basis, I'm going with four.

Loved all the food and our guide John Nolan shared great info with pictures about Greenville’s history. Great way to see & taste a city. Went back to 2 of the restaurants that weekend for dinner. I love that while riding to the next location you get a history tour filled with pics on the tv screen. It’s very informative and the food was all delish. John added so much with his knowledge of the history of Greenville and our immediate surroundings. Excellent tour. We will do it again on our next visit.

Fantastic experience: Purchased a Chef's Table Culinary Tour for my mom to go with my step-dad for her birthday and they thoroughly enjoyed it. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and personable and she said everyone had a great time!

Fantastic experience: Great tour. We came in to town on a Sunday and went to the visitors center on Monday. We asked about a tour and they recommended John so we called him. He didn’t have any tours scheduled that day but picked us up at our hotel at 4PM for a hour and a half tour. We combined history and architecture and it was thoroughly enjoyable. John is extremely knowledgeable and gave us a good feel for the history of Greenville. He also has a culinary tour that we have heard is another great experience.
