Fantastic experience: Did the 2nd line tour. Omg. Most people come to New Orleans to eat their great delicious authentic foods. But this tour was by far the best experience. To really learn the history of New Orleans. But the tour gave me clear understanding of the culture heritage and definitely helped to understand more about Hurricane Katrina and Ward 19. Although it saddened my heart to actually learn more about the devastation and Mrs. Smooth story on how she survived and having to experience seeing her family perish. I’ve always been fascinated with the music, the Zulu parade and where the face painting played apart of their culture. Our tour guy Jay hands down was absolutely the best . Definitely can tell he’s very knowledgeable and deeply rooted in his city and his people. Definitely gave me even more respect for the people of New Orleans. Now I’m eager to learn so much more about the history of. Always wondered why it was associated with voodoo. But always had the wrong misconception of the term associated with the city. Fantastic experience: 2nd line Tours provided me with the most enjoyable and memorable tour during my recent visit to New Orleans. I did the Whitney Plantation and Soul of New Orleans combo Tour and learnt so much history, it was everything and much more than i expected I truly felt immersed into the culture of life in New Orleans. Dennis and his staff were professional and accommodating to my needs and communicated clearly regarding pick up and drop off. My only recommendation would be for them to include a 2nd line experience tour to be held during the weekend of Essence fest, which would have been the ultimate cherry on the cake for me!

From start to finish, it celebrated the heartbeat of Black New Orleans — its history, resilience, music, and joy. The tour brought the city’s rich Black culture to life, from historical moments to the vibrant energy that still thrives today. We even had the chance to visit BE Studio, connect with the community, and speak with a living historical figure who shared her powerful story about integrating into a local school. Everything was perfectly curated — informative, inspiring, and full of that authentic New Orleans soul. Plus, being chauffeured in a private bus made the whole experience comfortable and seamless. If you want to feel the rhythm, history, and pride of Black New Orleans — this is the tour to take.

Fantastic experience: Where do I start? Our guide Dennis, was outstanding! His knowledge of true, factual Black New Orleans history was outstanding. I learned so much about New Orleans history which IS American history, than any time before. He gave us recommendation, that only the locals can school you on, for delicious dining. I am grateful. Fantastic experience: Dennis is AMAZING!! We scheduled two tours with him while we were in NOLA for my husband's birthday. We did the Celebrity & Music Tour first - we learned so much and had so much fun doing it! The second tour we did was Whitney Plantation / Museum + The Soul of New Orleans Combo Tour. Although heavy at the beginning (to think people were still living a plantation life as recent as the 1970s) it was great to learn about history in a different way and we left the tour feeling so uplifted and inspired. We haven't stopped talking about the living history of this beautiful city. Dennis is the most professional, kind, resourceful and service oriented tour guide you will ever meet. Do yourself a favor and book at least one tour with him - you won't be disappointed!

Fantastic experience: I would like to thank Dennis for an absolutely unforgettable, in depth, informative, educational and eye opening Soul of New Orleans tour. It was my birthday and a few of my family members joined me who have lived here all their lives and they were given an education they'll never forget. Dennis had them laughing while he was educating at the same time, I recommend everyone to take this tour if you want the real about New Orleans. One of the highlights of the tour was meeting Ms Leona Tate, very humble lady, make sure to purchase her book when you make that stop.

Negative experience: Thanks to 2nd Line CANCELLING US THE MORNING OF OUR TOUR due to “low enrollment,” we had the WORST TOUR OF OUR LIVES. The owner literally called and told me that he was putting us on a tour that would be “not exact, but very similar” to the one that we had booked. That was a complete lie. The level of disappointment that we feel is hard to capture in words, but I did so in the review that I left for the other terrible company, Adventures in New Orleans. That review is below. I cannot believe 2nd Line has a 5 star rating after the utter disregard for our reservation, last minute cancellation, and complete SENDOFF to this random tour company whose tour was NOTHING LIKE THE ONE WE BOOKED. ————— WORST TOUR EVER! DO NOT BOOK WITH THESE PEOPLE. We ended up on this travesty of a tour after we got CANCELED THE DAY OF by 2nd Line Tours due to “low enrollment.” We booked The Soul of New Orleans Tour which boasted a colorful and enriching experience, centered around black culture, and the many different faces of New Orleans living. Instead, we wasted over three hours of our lives that we will never get back being slowly driven around the city on a regular short, white bus, by an old soft-spoken man who had a very biased point of view on the city and it’s history. Any mention of Black and/or poor people labeled them as “thugs, bums, slaves, and jailbirds.” He glorified gentrification in every instance, as if it was the saving grace of the city. The whole experience was just despicable and out of touch like some warped, outdated episode of lifestyles of the rich and famous, Nee Orleans edition. We felt TORTURED and we’re so glad to hop off of the bus early when he was driving past our hotel unexpectedly. I am so unbelievably disappointed, and both of these tour companies literally ruined the last morning of our short weekend visit.

Fantastic experience: Do this tour on Day 1 of your arrival to New Orleans! Jay was a great tour guide! We enjoyed seeing New Orleans from a black perspective without anything being sugar coated. I will never look at the French Quarter buildings the same now that I can identify slave quarters of the wealthy, middle and poor slave owners. We also enjoyed learning and touring the neighborhoods of the lower ninth ward that was the most impacted by Hurricane Katrina. This is my third time to N.O. and there is still so much to see and learn. Truly love this city and will be doing another tour with 2nd line tours. Much love from the D!

Fantastic experience: I booked the 2nd Line Tour to the Whitney Plantation and the NOLA city culture tour. This was the best tour I have ever been on! Dennis, the owner, is so knowledgeable and is a great teacher! He had video and pictures for us to see on the bus. There were so many things that I learned as a kid that he tied together about slavery and Louisiana history. Please, if you ever head to NOLA, this is the tour that you want to do. It was fun and rich in information, and not boring at all!

It took a 3 hour tour by 2nd Line and their very informative driver, Dennis, for me to get an informed history of NOLA. So many questions answered and a few tears shed. Although I have always appreciated the unique culture, I now have a renewed respect for the people and their resilience!!!

Fantastic experience: I used this tour for a trip to the only plantation that speaks from the slave narrative. The Whitney Plantation tour was very educating and reflective. My bus driver and guide was so informative and eager to share. I enjoyed his presentation so much I jumped at the opportunity to pay to experience the Urban Culture tour with him after the plantation tour. It was money well spent. This is really one of those things where words and pictures don't do it justice. You need to experience this for yourself! If your Black or anyone who truly want to be woke and informed you must do the tours offered by second line. You will learn so much that they don't teach in school or our country as a whole. Why you still here? go book you a trip to NOLA to see what I'm talking about, you will not regret it!!!

Fantastic experience: This tour was wonderful, so insightful to learn the history of New Orleans, visit the lower 9th ward and meet Leona Tate. The tour was very well organized and informative.

Negative experience: I would not recommend this tour company. Thank you for providing transportation to The Whitney Plantation. In my opinion, the tour lacked professionalism. Typically, tours are presented by a guide or a storyteller, someone who is not only comfortable with smoothly presenting information in a passionate manner but also provides accurate information about the tour. On Saturday, May 24th for the 8am tour, passengers were told by the male guide that a road near The Whitney Plantation was the road that Forrest Gump ran down and the tour presenter even posted a poor quality image on the screen. Before posting to social media about my vacation, I researched what had been shared and found no such validation to this information that was shared by the male guide on the tour. Also, I highly recommend providing a professional presentation of the history of New Orleans and sites along the route, rather than use of phone screenshots.

Fantastic experience: Best tour in NOLA!My family and I enjoyed this tour because it really showcased the beautiful Black history of New Orleans in an authentic way. This tour is 100% worth the value that you’re paying for. The Whitney tour was very informative and educational and truly depicts what life was unfortunately like during slavery. The cultural tour highlighted Black Art, historical buildings, Hurricane Katrina, and the legacy of 9th ward. I also had the wonderful opportunity to meet Dr.Tate at the TEP Center and learn about desegregation in New Orleans. I was also able to learn about Second Line Celebration and black owned businesses that were in NOLA before gentrification. I learned about so much black history it’s amazing . We also went to filming site for Drake music video , Django, and Forrest Gump. This is such a in-depth experience .Dennis was an amazing tour guide and was also so kind enough to drop us off at our hotel. This tour was my favorite part about going to New Orleans ! This is something you cannot miss !

Fantastic experience: The Soul of New Orleans “Black History That Can’t Be Erased” needs a sixth star. Dennis, our guide and driver did a very good job - his enthusiasm for NOLA was evident in his explanations and photos. The highlight was meeting Leona Tate who back in 1960 at the age of 6 bravely walked into an all white school along side two other little girls and US Marshals. This tour bright to life the contributions and struggles (past and present) of NOLA’s Black community. I highly recommend this tour. More people like me, white and privileged from California need to broaden their knowledge of the South by experiencing this tour.

Fantastic experience: The Soul of New Orleans Love it Interesting way to celebrate my birthday. The tour guides were informative and knowledgeable both natives of New Orleans. The stops gave us perspective from our point of view (African American). We did the Hop on hop off tour which gives you a more generalized glossy experience but the 2nd line definitely dives into the richness that the city has to offer. Highly recommend it.

We walked away with a much deeper understanding of the city as a whole—from its complex cultural roots to its resilience in the face of tragedy. We explored areas impacted by Hurricane Katrina, which gave us powerful insight into the city’s recovery and strength. We also learned about the significance of the second line tradition, and how it reflects the spirit and soul of New Orleans. The tour covered the city’s diverse cultural layers—including Spanish, American, and French influences—and even touched on the origins of its iconic foods. One of the most unforgettable moments was stopping at McDonough 19 and meeting Dr. Leona Tate, one of the three brave young girls who helped integrate the school. Hearing her story firsthand was deeply moving and inspiring. This tour is a must-do. In just two hours, we experienced the heart of New Orleans in a way that was meaningful, educational, and truly unforgettable.

Fantastic experience: I couldn’t be more thrilled that we chose 2nd line tours for our Whitney Plantation and Urban Cuty Tours. The full day was pure perfection. The transportation to Whitney Museum included narration of various points throughout and wasn’t just a drive there. The plantation itself is beautiful and full of history, which while heartbreaking, is necessary to understand. We were brought back to Canal Street for an amazing lunch at Creole House and then hopped on our City Tour bus. Dennis was our guide and driver. I cannot sufficiently speak to his passion for his own city and the obvious research he has done to bring us a truly authentic narrative from the point of view of a local. He wasn’t just doing a job, it truly felt like he invited a group of friends for a drive through the city. We were a group of two 72 year olds, a 45 year old mom and a nine year old girl. Even my dad couldn’t stop talking about how amazing this urban city tour was.

Fantastic experience: We went on a tour last week with 2nd Line Tours and it was wonderful! I learned a lot about the city's history, art, celebrations, and culture. Focusing on the experience of Black people in the New Orleans since its founding gave the tour a different perspective than others that I really appreciated. Our guide Dennis shared his personal experience and really made the whole experience great!

Fantastic experience: Review Nola Urban Culture City Tour 11/10/24 We had a phenomenal time on this tour with Jay. I brought my daughter and her boyfriend, both in their 20s. The tour was packed with interesting and important history and sites. There was a mix of fun banter and heavier history learning. The young people really absorbed the teaching about Hurricane Katrina and we had some good discussions after. They loved Studio Be. The highlight was running into a Second Line and getting to see the pure joy of that experience. Thank you so much. We will book another tour on our next trip.

Fantastic experience: I've been to New Orleans many times but never did any of the tours connected to Enslavement. From the outset of booking the staff was incredibly kind and helpful. We booked through groupon so I had trouble finding the code to finish booking on their website. Once we got it settled everything was smooth sailing. This tour was outstanding, we were picked up from our hotel and on the drive to the Whitney Plantation the owner served as our tour guide and he shared incredible knowledge on Black history and the history of Enslavement in the New Orleans region. The Whitney Plantation tour was self guided and I loved how the focus of the tour was honoring the enslaved as opposed to the land owners. Then our tour guide showed us a few notable Plantations nearby stopping to allow pictures and he even put us on the the 9th ward second line happening that day. The whole trip was wonderful and I highly recommend for all ages.

Fantastic experience: The NOLA Culture and Celebrity Music Tour was EVERYTHING! Our Tour Guy, Jay, was Knowledgeable and Simply AMAZING! He made this tour so interesting and sooo much fun.. We visited alot of places and made stops to some unforgettable places

Fantastic experience: Great experience! I mistakenly missed my early morning tour, and they quickly mended the situation by shifting my tour to a different one. I was initially hesitant about the Urban City tour, but I LOVED it!! Jay was a very knowledgeable and friendly guide too. I’ll definitely use next time I am in Nola!

The guide was very knowledgeable, I learned a great deal about the large role African Americans have played in building Nola to the city that it is today. This was something you don't learn from history books and the media. Best tour yet.

Fantastic experience: I did the City Culture Tour w/ Jay. This was one of my favorite things I did visiting the city. Just an a side note, make your reservations early, they book up quickly. Sadly, I waited too late and could not do the plantation tour. But again, I’ll be back and will definitely book another tour with them. Jay took us off of the regular tourist route, even got to stop at Studio Be. I just learned sooo much. He was awesome… very knowledgeable, personable and funny.. Really enjoyed myself.

Negative experience: Son unos informales anularon nuestro tour y cuando se puso en contacto con ellos la agencia intermediaria, fijeron que habia dido un error de correos y que no se habia anulado. Una vez en Nueva Orleans anularon el tour un fia antes de hacerlo. Lo unico bueno es que lo reembolsaron sin problema

Fantastic experience: The Urban Culture Tour was the most informative, insightful and inspiring tour I've ever been on. There's a lot more to New Orleans than the French Quarter. Jay is an incredible tour guide. I'm going to take this tour again and bring friends
