Fantastic experience: Amazing two weeks in Greece. The trip exceeded our expectations.

Fantastic experience: My favorite tour company. I’ve been with them for five trips and they’re all excellent from beginning to end. Highly recommended professional all around lots of fun great people great events.

Negative experience: My experience in Central Asia was good in some ways, in that I got to see the advertised sights. And to grasp better the meaning of the Silk Roads. Culturally fascinating to me. The dreadful after-math is that I continue to fight a deep pulmonary breathing problem picked up about one third of the Tour, continuing through the two weeks there. Started exactly In Khiva, April 29 2025. Suspect was a bactérium inhaléd in one of the highway « outhouses » used by many people per day. A puzzle for pulmonology practitioners. Hotel Accommodations were fairly nice, clean.

Negative experience: I was a bit hesitant to leave a bad review because the Grand Canyon, Bryce, etc. are all pretty great and well worth visiting either on an organized tour or independently. That being said, I cannot recommend this tour company due to a pretty straightforward reason: Notwithstanding the high price, they cheaped out. So for example, at one hotel we stayed at, I was woken up in the middle of the night by a cleaning staff member in the hallway with a very loud walkie-talkie type radio. I don't need 4-star hotels, but I do need somewhere which takes guest experiences seriously. Any reputable hotel and/or tour company would agree that this sort of treatment is totally unacceptable and would instantly comp the night's stay. That didn't happen here. Similarly, they brought our group to an outdoor area of a restaurant which was near and under the flight path of a busy airport. I am pretty sure that if I had taken the trip price and bought everything a la carte, I could have had much better accommodations for a lot less money. Which is probably what I would do in the future. By the way, I should mention that our tour manager -- Keri-Lyn -- was great and I don't blame her for any of the problems. Rather, it appears that the tour company's aim is to maximize revenue while minimizing expenses, even if it results in an inferior product.

Negative experience: Odysseys Unlimited is the Kaiser Permanente of travel companies. Beware-- when you sign up for Odysseys' tour, your needs will only be taken care of...if you don't have any actual needs. We are well traveled and have never done a group tour but we decided to use a tour company for the first time because of the logistics involved with getting to Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca. All was well...until it wasn't. About 75% of the group came down with a stomach virus midway through the trip and about 36 hours before an 11 hour bus ride. Unfortunately, I was late to the game and started to get sick a few hours before departure, requiring us to cancel on the 11 hour bus ride. While we did not expect the company to pay for our logistics, we did expect them to help us arrange a hotel for the next 3 days and help us coordinate a flight back to Lima, our departure city to the United States. We were told that since we were cancelling, we were on our own, and offered no assistance. Oh, and the toll free number we were given as 24/7 hotline if we needed it...was disconnected. But hey, when we wrote them a letter about our negative experience they were oh so generous as to offer us a $200 PP credit on our next trip. Ah, no thank you. P.S. The local guides were very good and knowledgeable, but we could have easily just paid for a private tour and gotten far better overall service.

Fantastic experience: We just returned home from our Exploring Australia & New Zealand tour with Odyssey Unlimited. Our Tour Director went above and beyond regarding our small group ensuring we had a wonderful experience. Odyssey did a great job with the itinerary, the hotels, restaurants, the tours and educational information provided. The entire trip and the amazing experiences we encountered throughout exceeded our expectations!

Negative experience: Booked a trip to Portugal and Spain with them and purchased travel insurance at their urging. Trip was cancelled, vacation was ruined. Deposit returned but I am out $1500 for the insurance. You people suck.

Fantastic experience: I have just returned from the Mystical India tour, and commend Odysseys on a superb trip. This was my first trip with the company, having been a committed Tauck client in the past. My fellow travelers, some of them having traveled multiple times with Odysseys, had nothing but praise for the company. The level of coordination on the ground was outstanding. Especially in Varanasi, where mini-buses had to transport and meet us at various sites, they were always there on time. I have no doubt that much of this was due to our extraordinary tour director, Ritu Sharma. I have been traveling on group tours for more than forty years, and Ritu is unquestionably the finest tour director I have ever met. She made for a worry-free, highly interesting and fun trip. Ritu was excellent company, too. As one member of our group said, "Ritu is a national treasure." All the accommodations were outstanding, too.

Negative experience: Be careful when booking with Odysseys Unlimited! We waited to purchase our own airfare to New Zealand until we received an email from Odysseys Unlimited telling us it was safe to do so and after we paid the final payment for our entire trip. Five days after we purchased a nonrefundable airline ticket, Odyssey canceled our trip because there were not enough participants to make it profitable for them. They also canceled the trip insurance that we had purchased through them. We are now scrambling to plan our own trip 90 days from our departure date. It took us pressuring the customer service representative to find out that they were canceling our trip. It is very surprising that a company can stay in business with such disregard for customers. We will never use them again.

Negative experience: If you have food allergies this may not be the tour company to use. On our first trip we had a great tour guide in Italy, Laura, who was great especially with making sure there was gluten free food available. On our second tour, Alpine Splendor, our guide Chris was no help at all. We only stopped at sandwich shops where there was nothing available. He was no help at all. He was more concerned with texting than he was with the guests. For $14,000+ I really expected more. As a side note, he only spoke about art (he is an artist) and knew nothing about where we were visiting. Extremely disappointed with this tour.

Fantastic experience: Namaste!! The name of the trip should be : “A Pilgrimage to India” - a humbling experience of spirituality, Hindu culture, kindness, tolerance, with love and respect for all beings!!! Girish taught us a lot about the Hindu culture and the amazing country of India and its diverse cultures, religions and spirituality. He did this in an amazing worm, kind, thoughtful and embracing way with much love and compassion!!! As a tour director he was way above many other tour guides that we had encountered in almost 20 years of traveling around the world from an organizational stand to delivery of content and exposure to the local culture, while paying a lot of attention to details and personally taking care of every traveler!!! There are no words to express our deepest gratitude to him for his guidance through this life experience!!! Thank you and again, very grateful!!!

Negative experience: Good tour directors in country. All of their covered dinners were in hotels or lower average quality restaurants so dont expect much until you go out on your own. Very disappointed in customer servicebas out transfer in Italy did not show and we were forced to call Boston on our own dime to resolve. Post trip they said sorry but no comp. Very disappointed will look elsewhere next trip.

Fantastic experience: This tour company far exceeded my expectations and allowed folks to bathe in wonderment while viewing Mother Nature's favorite daughter, Iceland. The tour was exactly as described, down to the physicality required to fully participate. Our guide, Ola, was incredibly gifted at explaining science and culture, and the co-travelers were delightful. This trip reawakened a long dormant sense of childlike curiosity and optimism.

Fantastic experience: We've been on 5 Odysseys trips, including Australia and New Zealand and Africa. We've been happy with all of the trips. (Perhaps we were lucky since most of our group had food poisoning at one of the stops in Africa.) The groups have all been congenial, and the weather has been good, which can make or break a trip. Reading other reviews, it seems that some people have had problems with flight arrangements made by Odysseys. We've always booked our own flights and have arrived at the start of the tour a day early. This gives us a chance to get settled, and gives us a start on getting over jet lag. We've recommended Odysseys to friends, and no problems that we know of. There are most expensive trip companies, and even much cheaper ones. You pretty much get what you pay for. If you are looking for luxury, or what to save, you might look for other companies. (Although Odysseys did give five nights at the King David in Jerusalem, which is a big deal.) If you want an enjoyable trip, with nice people, try Odysseys.

Fantastic experience: Just returned from our Odysseys Unlimited tour (Greece). Not our first tour group, but our first with Odysseys. We were very impressed. Three of the four hotels were excellent, truly a cut above what other tours offer (one hotel missed the mark a bit). The stays were 3 nights, greatly preferred over 1-night, 2-night trips. The tour leader was exceptional. She was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, skilled in group dynamics and personable. We had 24 in our group, at the high end of the range of 16-24 but within a short time, we melded into a congenial, harmonious group. Many tour companies have upped the number of "meals on your own", "time to explore on your own" but not this one. Contact with OU before departure was smooth and professional, staff were always responsive and accommodating. All in all, a thoughtful, well-paced tour. We will definitely look at OU for other travel opportunities. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: The Morocco tour leader Muhammed was fantastic, very knowledgeable and a really wonderful human. Trip is interesting, hotels are top notch, restaurants are the best. Highly recommend this trip.

Negative experience: The following letter was send yo the president of Odysseys Unlimited. April 2nd, 2024 Dear Sir, We hope the past several weeks were a lot better for you than for us while we were exploring Mystical India! Oh excuse me…..Miserable India is a more appropriate term. Why, you may ask. Because, 2 - 3 days after we got there we had a lunch in a restaurant and the entire group (except one) got sick from food poisoning. It was NOT several members as you stated in your letter to us. Semantics matter. And your remedy? Free booze for everyone. Great idea when you are healthy, but not when your stomach leaks. The visit to the village with the camels was terrible idea. When you wake up with soiled sheets and you can not take a decent shower due to the lack of hot water and broken shower head makes things even more unbearable. Forget the Ranthambore National Park, forget the Special dinner where we were invited to go. Four walls was the great Indian Scenery we both experienced. Ok…. On to Agra!!! We were looking forward to take a decent shower there , BUT, it was not to be!!! No hot water pressure and the water was FULL of RUST!!! Since we didn’t want to become IronMan/Woman...no shower for us. Yes, we have the pics to show. The water did not clear almost till the next morning. Yes, our condition improved a little after the Dr. gave us some pills and injection, but our stomachs were in a very rebellious mood, still. The filth and unbearable piles of garbage of India behind us now, on to Nepal. Things didn’t get much better. The bathroom in the hotel had BLACK mold around the sink, toilet and shower with rusted metal to match. Black and white color make a nice combination in a house, BUT this combination is unacceptable. The first day the group was taken down a hillside along residential houses where many members of the group kept taking pics of the homes, hanging laundry and what ever was in peoples back yards. How preposterous! Why the guide allowed such behavior? Don’t people have any respect for privacy anymore. Shameful and embarrassing behavior. Anyway, the rest of the day we spend in our rooms, because there was nothing to do. A wasted day. No need to go on and on, we just want to forget this trip. I hope you got the picture of our adventure. After three relatively good trips with Odysseys, this was the trip from Hell. We are terrified about going in a few weeks to visit the Silk Road. I am sure nothing will be done, but at least I got it off my chest. Now that we are on Tera Firma we can continue with our recuperation. Mold in one of the hotels!!!! Cordially, .......NEVER AGAIN

Fantastic experience: Recently traveled with Odyssey on the Sicily in-depth tour. Having traveled with other companies I can say that Odyssey is top notch. You really get value for your money as tips, many extra meals and excursions are all included in the price. Accommodations were very much above par, tours were accompanied with local guides. Highly recommend and I'm a picky traveler.

Negative experience: Deceptive practice. Do not travel with Odysseys Unlimited. They make you pay the entire cost of the trip before they send you your flight info. Mine was 36 hours flight times and layovers - 10 hour layover in an airport, no day room,. And if you don't like it, they tell you to get your own airfare but if you do, they won't pick you up or take you back to the airport unless you accept their flights, you're on your own. Go with Gate 1 or Smithsonian Journeys, MUCH better and they offer a string of different flights and you can pick your own at no additional charge!!

Fantastic experience: We just completed our tour of Portugal with our Tour Host, Raquel.. it was a wonderful experience and she was a gem, caring for us all and teaching so much about culture and history of Portugal ... I highly Recommend the tour and our host, Raquel!

Fantastic experience: We had a great Vietnam tour..two weeks of terrific execution. Got back Superbowl Sunday. Long RT flights but worth it. Our tour guide worked for Odyssey 17 years. It showed. The Vespa night tour of Saigon was a highlight.

Negative experience: I traveled to Iceland on a Smithsonian Journeys tour run by Odysseys Unlimited. The tour 'Adventures in Iceland' was October 10 to October 20 2023. My flights from Los Angeles, CA, to Iceland were booked by Odysseys. In the information provided by Odysseys before traveling I was informed that if there were flight issues I would be rebooked automatically. There are no nonstop flights from Los Angeles to Iceland. I was booked through Seattle International Airport. I had a return flight from Iceland on Icelandair to Seattle, Washington, the on Alaska Airlines from Seattle to Los Angeles, California, on October 20. The flight out of Iceland to Seattle was delayed by 2 hours. I realized I would miss my Alaska Airlines flight to Los Angeles. I contacted Odysseys Unlimited, Icelandair, Alaska Airlines, and Smithsonian Journeys from Iceland. The first time I contacted Odyssey they said to call Alaska Airlines. Alaska Airlines told me it was not there responsibility and call Icelandair. The later told me they did not do the rebooking. I called Odyssey again and was told someone would get back to me. I called Smithsonian and was told someone would get back to me. I also went to the information desk in Iceland for Icelandic Airlines. They had no information. I received no calls back from anyone. As the departure time approached I realized I would arrive in Seattle without a flight and thus bought a ticket to Los Angeles on the last Alaska Airlines flight leaving that Friday night. I have contacted all the above organizations and spent hours on the telephone and no one will take responsibility let alone reimburse for the ticket I purchased. Smithsonian states that Odysseys should take responsibility. Odysseys states its the airlines. Icelandic air states Odysseys is responsible since they acted as the travel agent and did the booking. I have also been told by Odysseys that I should try to get reimbursed by insurance even though I paid Odyssey in advance for the original ticket (I bought and filed a claim but am yet to hear back if they will cover this; ). Today I was told by an Odysseys manager (Larissa) that flight cancellations and delays are solely the responsibility of the airlines and Alaska Airlines should have rebooked me on a new flight though when I called Odysseys from Iceland the second time I was told Odysseys would get back to me (it turns out I was rebooked on a Delta flight but no one contacted me with this information) I will not take any other tours with Odysseys Unlimited nor any tours through any organization that hires Odyssey to run the tour. All I can say is 'Buyer Beware" if you use this company.

Fantastic experience: Good

Negative experience: Odysseys Unlimited has no concern for their customer safety. We were booked on a trip to the Canadian Maritimes. The arrival date in Halifax, NS coincided with the arrival of Hurricane Lee to the same area. All weather services were predicting hurricane/tropical storm weather and severe wind and water surges. Not only would it have been dangerous to go there, the trip itinerary was directly in the hurricanes path and there was no way the land/water itinerary could be safely executed - assuming the airlines didn't cancel all the flights in, which is what I would expect, leaving customers stranded at layover points. When we called 2.5 days prior to departure, they told us they were still planning on delivering the tour and refused to move us to a new tour date. For our safety, we canceled and of course received no refund from them. Fortunately we had travel insurance to cover part of the loss. This tour agency does not care about client safety, only their bottom line. In fact, this was the second time they were willing to send.us into a perilous situation. In the first instance, an outside party acted and Odysseys had to cancel the trip. Beware if something goes wrong on your trip, Odysseys will look out for themselves before worrying about your safety.

Fantastic experience: Did the Explore Iceland tour. The sightseeing and pace were busy, as advertised, and perfect. The accommodations and meals were excellent. Our tour guide, Gudny, was amazing, her knowledge and decades of experience are what made this trip so wonderful, that and Iceland is gorgeous. It is the easy button to see Iceland and with Odysseys Unlimited there were no worries.

Negative experience: Odysseys Unlimited Tour of Sicily In-Depth We booked a trip to Sicily for August in January. We paid in full, which included trip insurance and an upgrade to Premium Economy class. We inquired about the airlines they book for the Sicily tour. The agent presented a suitable list. We received the airplane itinerary in early June. The airline booked was not satisfactory, nor was the hub we were going to. The airline was not on the list that the agent presented to us. I contacted them by phone immediately and requested that they change the airline. I explained that we did not feel safe with the route and airline. I found alternative airlines and hubs that would work, but the agent was uncooperative with making any changes. At this point, I was distraught and canceled our booking. Odysseys Unlimited charged a hefty 25% fee to cancel. The cancelation fee amounted to slightly under 5K. The agent suggested I put in a claim for the 5K through the trip insurance. Trip insurance did not cover it. Beware of this company. They proved to be inflexible and not forthcoming. We would not have booked this trip knowing what airline they would be using. The agent stated there was no cancellation penalty for 95 days before the departure date. We received the airline itinerary 85 days before the departure date, this was not in their 95 day window. We canceled the next day. The agent would not provide any accommodation for our safety concerns. We are feeling sad after this experience with Odysseys Unlimited and done with organized tours!

Fantastic experience: I have gone on three tours with Odyssey and have signed up four a fourth in January. So I obviously feel that they do a good job. Their guides are terrific and very helpful. Their office staff has been responsive when needed. I have been very pleased with their itineraries as well.

Fantastic experience: I have a tour with Odysseys later this year so I can't speak about the trip itself but I must say their Customer Service is outstanding. I have called them numerous times with questions and requests and they are so responsive and on top of things it is amazing. What a breath of fresh air! My follow-up: Just completed trip to Northern Italy. Loved every minute. Great itinerary. Very good hotels and food. Would definitely travel with them again.

Negative experience: On a recent trip to Italy with Odysseys Unlimited my husband’s backpack was lost/stolen while being transferred from Rome to Orvieto. He handed his carry-on backpack to the driver and saw him place it in the luggage compartment on the bus. This was witnessed by other people in the group. On the way the bags were transferred to a smaller van for transport to the hotel in Orvieto since buses are not allowed in that city. The group continued on to dinner and upon arrival at the hotel later that evening the backpack was missing. The tour operator checked with the bus and van drivers and hotel personal but the bag was gone. Inside the backpack were numerous personal items, medication, medical device for sleep apnea, cash and most distressing if all his PASSPORT! Odysseys Unlimited responded that they are not responsible for lost/stolen luggage (even while in the care of their contractors) and urged him to file a claim with the trip insurance carrier. The secure transfer of bags from one hotel to another while on tour is an essential TRUST between the customer and tour company. In this case Odysseys Unlimited failed in their obligation. Odysseys Unlimited apologized for this “unfortunate incident” and any “inconvenience” caused. The tour operator on site was wonderful assisting us in filing a police report and getting to the American Consulate in Florence to purchase an emergency passport but this was much more than an “inconvenience”. This “unfortunate incident” caused extreme anxiety and stress that greatly impacted the enjoyment of the second half of this trip. Odysseys Unlimited was highly recommended to us and while many aspects of the trip was worthy of that praise the failure in their baggage transfer procedures is cause for concern to all customers. Fantastic experience: We just completed "Untamed Alaska" with our tour guide Andy Bydlon, who was fantastic. I am trying to decide on the highlight of the past ten days, but I feel like I could wax-on elegantly with a highlight for each day. We had some challenges along the way, mostly weather related, but Andy was a miracle worker and pulled us through every dilemma! For example, we found ourselves stuck for a few hours in the tiny Town of China. Andy found a place that would prepare a lovely meal 425 with 30 minutes notice. They even included the wine!

Fantastic experience: We have traveled with them eight times. Fantastic trips. Never more than 24 in a group and usually less. The travelers are friendly and game for anything. The guides are incredibly knowledgeable, helpful and flexible. The price is right and you will really see the place you are going. Covid slowed us down but we are back on the road next year heading to Switzerland with them.

Fantastic experience: We have just returned from a 15-day Odysseys Unlimited tour to Egypt, arranged by the Iowa State University Alumni Association. It was an outstanding trip in all ways, and all members of our group of 14 were very impressed. The itinerary was superb, beginning and ending in Cairo with a Lake Nasser and a Nile cruise in between. All the arrangements were perfect for accommodations, transportation, and meals, and we felt pampered and very safe at all times. Our guide Tarek Morsey was excellent -very knowledgeable and organized, taking care of every detail to make our trip special. Highlights that he organized included a wonderful lunch and visit to a family farm in Luxor, a horse and buggy tour of the city, and a papyrus paper making demonstration at an art shop. Thanks to Tarek, our adventure was delightful!

Fantastic experience: Totally comprehensive, cost efficient, wonderful tour company. When you break it down, you would never be able to see as much, learn more, have better accommodations, enjoy quality food, etc! We went on the Tour of Northern Italy at the end of Sept. Our hotels were first class! Our tour guide, Igor, was FANTASTIC! So intelligent, and funny. Then, at each museum, or historic spot, we had private guides, who gave us the history, as we passed through lines, not having to wait to enter! We had a group of 22 people (ONLY!) We rode in a fine Mercedes bus. No detail is overlooked! I HIGHLY recommend this your company! We loved it so much, we are going again with this company to Southern Italy this May!

Fantastic experience: I participated in an Odyssey Unlimted group travel event with NC State and IN State Universities organized to Iceland...and it was AMAZING! Our tour guide was knowledgeable in all things Icelandic and then some! The accommodations were fantastic...every hotel was clean and staffed with professionals that were welcoming...the meals were fabulous! And the strategically planned time on our own gave us access to options to accommodate personal interest...and our tour guide made sure we got reservations! Some of my favorite moments were...the black sand beach, the northern lights, the whale watching trip, the waterfalls, the volcanoes, the glaciers, the food, the rainbows...you get the picture...it was all fabulous!
