Fantastic experience: We recently took a Northern Lights tour with Greatland Adventures in Fairbanks and our guide, Mike, was exceptional. We highly recommend this tour and especially with Mike! From the start, Greatland Adventures worked with us to choose the best night for the tour, adjusting based on our schedule and weather conditions. Mike helped us find the lights, shared expert tips, and explained the science behind them in an engaging and easy-to-understand way. Mike went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, offering cider, cocoa, and snacks throughout the night. After struggling to see the Northern Lights in Iceland, Mike found them outside Fairbanks, going the extra mile to make it happen. The lights were life changing to observe – even on a night most would call low Kp! We’re incredibly grateful and would highly recommend Mike and Greatland Adventures to our friends and family.

Fantastic experience: In September of 2024, I booked with Greatland Adventures for Matanuska Glacier Tour. We were shuttled from our hotel to the glacier. It was everything I anticipated and more. We were in Alaska for a month and this was one of my favorite Alaskan Adventures. Our guide was professional and informative. I became more comfortable the more we explored. Our adventure ended with a beautiful scenic lunch. I like that our tour group was small. I saw other tours with more than 11 people. Our guide also took pictures for us. Step out of your comfort zone and try this. It wasn't that difficult.

Fantastic experience: They were awesome in organizing the tour. They were really considerate and patient while taking our pictures with the northern lights. They are very responsible and will reschedule if the data suggests low possibility of aurora sighting. Definitely not just in it for the money. They are passionate about finding and photographing auroras.

Fantastic experience: What an amazing experience from booking to mushing! Lindsey, our musher, was great and very knowledgeable. We got to meet ther dogs and even hold the puppies. This was at the start of our Alaska trip and definitely a high point of the vacation. I can’t say enough about what a quality operation Snowhook adventures is. We will be back the next time we are in Alaska!

Fantastic experience: My partner and I had planned to see the Northern Lights while in Fairbanks. Unfortunately, the weather did not hold up, and despite there being aurora activity, it was completely cloudy in and around Fairbanks. We actually purchased another tour with a high success rate and were sorely disappointed when we were clouded out after chasing the whole night. The next night, we drove south to a lake for viewing and were soon joined by Greatland Tours. The aurora made a colorful and kinetic appearance, and Jacob, one of the guides and photographers for Greatland, ushered us in front of his camera and snapped photos of us while the lights danced. He didn’t care that we hadn’t paid to be on his tour. He genuinely wanted us to have beautiful photos of our experience! Kindness notwithstanding, the tour appeared well organized and seamless. There were two vans that held easily a dozen people but were capped at a respectable 8 per vehicle. Everyone had autonomy of watching the sky or staying warm with some drinks in the comfort of the van. The guides were super knowledgeable about all things aurora, Alaska, and photography, friendly and easy to converse with, and were totally willing to take as many pictures as each person wanted. I proposed to my now-fiancé under the lights, and Jacob took shots afterwards and even during the proposal (sneaky, mad props)! He went out of his way to be generous with his time, taking, editing, and sending pictures to us to commemorate our special night. If I ever book another aurora chasing tour, it WILL be with Greatland Tours!

Fantastic experience: After 3 days of a 5-day trip to Fairbanks, all with the intention of seeing the aurora, I was freaking out because the cloud cover wouldn't budge. Despite having a list of the most popular spots to see the lights, I was batting .000. So I did the thing I had told myself I wouldn't and booked a chaser tour. And it was completely worth it! I called Greatland Adventures at 4 p.m. on the day of and they had 1 spot. Mike picked me up five hours later and I'd spend the next 6 hours with him and a fun group of like-minded people who happened to pick a rough week to visit the area. While driving around, Mike was not only knowledgeable about the aurora and able to explain in plainspeak with colorful metaphors but also full of other stories from his travels and a great conversation. He kept his van-ful of people engaged the whole time. We ended up trying three spots, using his, his partner's and his company's office team (which stayed up with us) to track weather patterns in addition to aurora intensity and attraction. The first spot didn't work for the lights but provided an amazing night sky view until the clouds returned. The second also didn't pan out. But the third, which happened to be at Greatland's property in Fairbanks that Mike also calls home when he's working, provided terrific views and even better pictures considering the circumstances. I wasn't able to find the lights like this on my own. I told Mike he saved my trip. By 6 a.m., when I was dropped back off at my rental, most everyone was still buzzing with excitement.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful experience with a knowledgeable guide. We weren't sure if the clouds would break, but he took us to a place where the viewing was great. On the way home, the Aurora started back up so we pulled over to see the stunning sights. Thank you Jacob for a wonderful experience and amazing pictures!! Bucket list item checked.

Fantastic experience: We booked the Anchorage Northern Lights tour through Viator and due to the weather the lights would not visible so Scott the tour guide was totally upfront and honest and refunded 100% for the cancellation. Awesome friendly servile.

Fantastic experience: Greatland Adventures is a phenomenal company. Steve, the owner, took us out on a northern lights tour in Fairbanks. He’s got an extremely nice setup with the vans, starlink, cameras and great employees. Steve was incredibly knowledgeable about the science behind the northern lights and answered every question I had. He was also very patient and kind to me when I was nervous about the night drive, which I truly appreciated. I plan to come back and bring friends on their tours to see the aurora. If you are looking to see it, they will find it for you and you could not be in better company.

Fantastic experience: Most people have a bucket list. Seeing the Aurora was one of my bucket list items. People said it was a bit early in the season to see the Aurora, and when we left, it was raining and the sky was full of clouds. However, the staff here of the Greatland Adventure were truly passionate aurora chasers, and gave us the best memories. The sky we saw from the place we traveled for three to four hours was amazing. The photos I took just with my cell phone camera were like this, and the lots of stars were truly spectacular. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Chris and Steve for their guidance. For chasing the Northern lights with Greatland was the best choice I've ever done here. Thank you guys.

Positive experience: Did the Matanuska Glacier Summer Tour. My husband and I got a private tour since we were the only ones that showed up - which was awesome. The tour guide was friendly and casual. At times, it felt like we were moving at a slower pace than necessary and I would have liked to have made it further up the glacier. Still think it was a great experience, but be aware you are only on the ice for a couple hours - you are not frozen in time with the glacier!

Positive experience: It was an awesome experience to walk on the Matanuska Glacier in Alaska! Our guide Matt was pleasant, knowledgeable and helped us maneuver on the glacier, he ever put on our crampons for us and instructed us on ascension on how to use them. The lunch spot, The Long Gun, was great, it overlooked the glacier too!

Fantastic experience: Another trip to Alaska, another unforgettable life moment. I am 3 for 3 so far. This was January 2023. I caught the northern lights, milky way, and Denali all in the same night. Despite the 2 hour drive in the snow and negative temperatures, this was a blast. Our photographer and guide Jacob was incredible. Its been 1.5 years. I wonder if his success streak is still intact?

Fantastic experience: We took an aurora chasing tour with Greatland in April beginning. Weather was super cloudy and we didn’t get to see the aurora on the first tour. the team offered to take everyone out on another tour the next night and we got to see the beautiful, dancing aurora! We had the best experience with Mike and Shannon and both of them took lots of pictures of us with the aurora and also gave pointers on how to take pictures from our iPhones. Our trip to Fairbanks was solely for the purpose of seeing the northern lights and we had been unable to see them due to cloudy skies but got to see the northern lights on our last night thanks to the team at GA! Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: If you want to see the northern lights the right way, you will go with these guys! Everything was on point. The pick up, customer service, safety, knowledge, everything was perfect. I went on a particularly cold night and did not have adequate clothing. These guys had my back. Thank you, Stephen! The northern lights are unpredictable, What is not unpredictable is the level of service you will receive from great land adventures, no matter the tour. I was so impressed. I did two other tours with them. Dog sledding and a helicopter tour.

Fantastic experience: We did the Fairbanks aurora tour with Mike and it was AWESOME! Mike is so knowledgeable and made sure we spot the aurora even though it was kinda cloudy. He ensured to take super cool pics of us . Very importantly Mike explained us how to "chase the northern lights", by looking at weather patterns, space data etc. It is interesting to know the science behind this natural phenomenon. I can't recommend them more.

Fantastic experience: Mike and Shannon were the best guides for our once in a lifetime experience. Josh picked us up and we were off to their cabin where by 11 pm we're seeing auroras across the sky! The lights were so beautiful and the entire group got to experience VIP photo shoots! The skies were clear on our night and we enjoyed hot cocoa, snacks and even a small walking trail! Once clouds came along we picked up and drove to a few other locations in the area in our heated van! Nice and comfy with a great group of folks into 2 ish We loved it!

Fantastic experience: The northern lights tour from Anchorage was an unforgettable experience with two of my best friends! Justin was an incredible guide. He was super welcoming, helpful, accommodating and knowledgeable. This was a wonderful adventure to remember.

Fantastic experience: We went out on a Northern Lights tour and ultimately, due to cloud cover, weren't able to see the lights. We were offered a free do-over, but that night was also unsuccessful due to weather. Despite not seeing the lights either night due to our poor luck, (I'd been told they had seen them every other night that week), I was still incredibly impressed with their level of effort to try to be successful, their good communication, keeping us comfortable, and providing other opportunities for pictures throughout the night. Next time I'm in Alaska I will 100% be booking with them again!

Fantastic experience: We booked a private aurora tour with Greatland Adventures in Fairbanks. Communication throughout the process was excellent! We had an epic experience with Mike, our guide. He went out of his way in every measure, including picking all seven of us up at our rather remote cabin. He used scientific data and Birkeland-like knowledge on our aurora chase, often times pulling over to analyze data & look at the skies to decide which direction had the highest probability of an aurora. After talking with fellow travelers who booked other tours that only went to one viewing spot & never saw an aurora (cloudy weather is a bummer!) we were especially appreciative of the effort. We were lucky that everything lined up and we found more than one viewing spot. We saw arcs, bands, corona & rays - even some dancing lights! Mike’s genuine enthusiasm & incredible knowledge along with some amazing storytelling made our late night/early morning adventure one we will always treasure. Thanks Mike & Greatland Adventures!

Fantastic experience: I'm not one to take the time to write a review, but I can't recommend Greatland Adventures enough if you plan on booking a tour for Fairbanks. Our tour guide was Michael; he picked us up right on time from our hotel and was very knowledgeable about the science behind the northern lights. He had an amazing personality that made the whole experience even better. I wanted to thank Greatland Adventures and especially Michael for helping my wife and me fulfill one of our dreams of seeing the northern lights.

Fantastic experience: What an amazing experience. Greatland Adventures took great care of my girlfriend and I and the rest of the tour group. Our driver and tour guide, Michael, was the absolute best and set up a one-of-a-kind, once-in-a-lifetime experience that I can’t possibly thank him enough for. His excitement to provide a thorough experience and his excitement for the randomness of the Aurora made the night eventful and easy to stay up through. Got some great views of the Aurora and amazing shots through Michael’s camera.

Fantastic experience: I had a great time with two tours with Greatland Adventures. My first tour was with Justin for the lights show. He was great, professional, friendly and fun! I appreciated his enthusiasm and gungho attitude (despite how bitterly cold it was). I was treated to an amazing light show! And also great photos. Greatland Adventures provided them to us digitally the day after. They turned out great and it was a pleasant surprise for me. My second trip was with Matt to Matanuska Glacier. He was also very friendly and knowledgeable. Our hike through the Matanuska Glacier was great and fun! And Matt was really informative about the different types of ice and other geological features. On our way back, we stopped by a cute lodge with a great view. Lunch was covered. If I ever return to Alaska with the uninitiated, I will definitely sign them up with Greatland Adventures tours!

Fantastic experience: Outstanding view of the Aurora Borealis. I've had this adventure on my bucket list for years. Greatland Adventures provided a nice warm lodge and a more fantastic display on the Northern Lights than I could have ever imagined. Their personal concern and care of the clients went far beyond my expectations.

Fantastic experience: This was one of the highlights of our trip. Greatland is such an honest and exceptional tour company. When we didn’t see the Aurora on our first tour in Fairbanks, they rapidly rebooked us on a second tour out of Anchorage free of charge. Our guide Justin was kind and knowledgeable. He took us to an amazing spot to see the lights! The snacks and beverages included were an added bonus. Definitely would recommend booking with them if you want a company that backs up their promise to see the lights!

Fantastic experience: Cannot recommend them enough!!! For the northern lights tour, transportation, the experience, the guide, everything was top notch! We had originally booked for a day with Kp=4 thinking that would be the best day technically but they called us and asked us if we could come on a different day coz it had better chances of viewing the Aurora. I was initially hesitant coz the kp value was only 1 for that day. But thankfully we listened to the experts and decided to go on the day they suggested. And glad that we did coz we saw an amazing Aurora. Trust them and they will take care of you! They also have a warm cabin where we can rest. They even provided us coffee and some snacks. They are amazing!!!

Fantastic experience: We took the Fairbanks Northern Lights tour. Amazing will be selling it short. Michael was our guide, and he did a great job of keeping us informed, explained the science behind Auroras in easy to understand terms, while also doing an excellent job of taking us to the most ideal spots to see the lights that night. He was very knowledgeable in understanding various factors like cloud cover, solar flare data and knowing the dark spots where light was less. We also needed nature to help us out and thankfully, we were lucky to witness the Aurora dance in front of us in -30 degrees cold. 10/10 will do it again.

Fantastic experience: What a FANTASTIC group of people! Highly recommend for going to see the lights, now a word of warning ⚠️ please please dress warmly! Even with very thick gear and layers you will get cold at 1AM! So be prepared. Solid transportation, great accomodations and Chris our guide was super lovely❤️

Negative experience: They did not respond to me, yet when I inquired over a month ago I still have not heard back from them. Where has customer service gone in this country? Does it even still exist? Pictures don't always paint a pretty picture it's how people are treated internally that that defines an organization and the emphasis on delivery of quality services

Fantastic experience: We had Matt and Bill as our tour guides and they were both amazing hosts. They provided us with a lot of interesting information about Alaska and the surrounding area on the ride there which kept the 2 hour drive from Anchorage entertaining. They both cared a lot about all of the guests and our well being on the tour which made the experience that much better. They were able to answer all of our questions about the glacier and encouraged everyone to ask. I highly recommend this experience because the glacier was truly remarkable and something you can only experience here in Alaska.

Fantastic experience: This is truly a bucket list experience. Our tour guide Bill was super knowledgeable. He knows that Glacier like the back of his hand. We hiked for over two hours through a magical winter wonderland, and had plenty of time to really take it all in and enjoy this unforgettable experience. Go for it! I used Greatland’s cold weather gear and it worked great in February temps!

Fantastic experience: We had a great experience with Greatland Adventures on the aurora tour - Communication was great! Obviously the weather is unpredictable, and the staff was very good at calling/texting with updates on the forecast. The night we went on the tour, the guide picking us up called to let us know exactly when he’d be at our hotel. During the tour, the guides were extremely knowledgeable and also took pictures of everyone with the lights, which turned out amazing! The snacks, water, and hot drinks were also nice since it is a long night.

Fantastic experience: I don’t usually leave reviews either but the folks at Greatland Adventures deserve it! It’s been almost a week since we were in Fairbanks to see the Aurora Borealis and I still can’t get over it - it was such an amazing experience! Everyone we dealt with - from making the reservation to our forecast call to our actual tour - was awesome. Our guide, Mike, was so easy to talk to - it was like we had known him forever - and we instantly felt comfortable around him. There’s a whole science behind the lights and Mike was very knowledgable and took the time to explain and share info. You could tell how passionate he was about his job. Fantastic experience: My wife and I had a great time in our Aurora tour in Fairbanks. Our guide Michael was awesome! We learned soo much about the Northern Lights and the surrounding area. This was definitely the highlight of our trip!

We just got back from a Northern Lights Tour and our guide was awesome... friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. It has always been a lifelong dream for both my wife and I to see the northern lights and Greatland Adventures made that happen tonight. We are very thankful and would give more than 5 stars if we could.

Fantastic experience: The Matanuska glacier winter tour was absolutely amazing! Especially at the beginning when we are on the hills walking toward the glacier, the wind was so strong, it was literally like the movie The Day after Tomorrow's scene where Jack was hiking to New York in the strong wind and snow lol. Our guides were excellent, knowledgeable, and professional. It was one of my most memorable hike that I had during my entire Alaska trip!

Fantastic experience: We had a excellent tour to see the northern lights last night in Anchorage. Joe was our guide, he was very friendly and caring. Could not have asked for a more awesome and friendly person to lead the trip. The van was clean and well-equipped. We had snacks, hot drinks, and hand warmers at the ready. We had awesome visibility and got some incredible photos of the Aurora. I would recommend this company and tour to anyone who is coming to Anchorage in the winter.

Fantastic experience: The guides were kind, educational and very funny. They took care of all our needs and went the extra miles to help me personally when I had camera malfunctions. They were both very sweet and I'm grateful they took so many photos for me and my friends.

Fantastic experience: My boyfriend and I did the Matanuska Glacier tour. Matt and Sean were excellent guides. Fantastic communication on pick up and drop off. Great information and safety tips along the way. The glacier itself was breathtaking of course. Unbelievable how ever changing the landscapes really are. Lunch was delicious and the view was freakin wild! We had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend it! Thank you so much!

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience! The guides were very knowledgeable and clearly experienced in the harsh conditions Alaska can have. I went in the middle of winter right after a snow dump and thought it may not be the best time, but the guides made hiking the glacier easy and we had a lot of fun along the way!

Fantastic experience: We did the aurora viewing tour out of Anchorage with Jacob. We enjoyed every aspect of the tour—the drive to and from was pleasant and Jacob explained a lot to us about the science behind the aurora and his experience chasing the Northern Lights. Once we were setup, we had a beautiful picture and viewing opportunity for many hours. Jacob was professional, helpful, and very accommodating (he served hot chocolate and hot coffee at exactly the right moment—my fingers were freezing!). If you want to have a great experience when you try to see the Northern Lights, I’d recommend trying to go with Jacob. Nothing is guaranteed (all the right things need to come together to see the aurora) but the overall experience was first-rate. I would cite this as one of the best tour experiences.

Fantastic experience: We went out with Jacob to see the aurora. From the beginning, Jacob displayed tremendous knowledge and made us feel very welcome. Our van had warm beverages, snacks, water, and was kept on during our 3+ hour viewing which allowed us to stay out and also warm up intermittently. The actual aurora did appear to the naked eye several times, but what was particularly stunning is the quality of photograph that Jacob captured. In addition to seeing the swirling aurora in person, we were able to observe the light picked up by the professional grade equipment which was a total joy. I would highly recommend this package tour. The ride to the location, photo opportunities, conversation and company of Jacob was a 10/10 experience and one that I will recommend to anyone seeking to see the Northern Lights.

From Anchorage to Fairbanks— we hiked the Glacier..took a Talkeetna Air tour went Snowshoeing in Denali and mingled with the Sled Dogs and Reindeer… Bill made the adventure fun, educational and a wonderful family experience. Fantastic experience: There are not enough words to explain how incredible the northern lights tour is. Steve was the absolute best guide with TONS of knowledge. We trusted him and he lead us to the PERFECT spot to see a spectacular show. We took the private tour with our two boys who are 6 and 9. They slept in the van while we chased aurora and we woke them up when lady A was showing off! Do not hesitate to book this tour! Thank you Steve for the unforgettable experience. Fantastic experience: John was great. The weather didn't cooperate at times and he guided the tour to work around it. We learned about Alaska, Turnagain Arm, animals of Alaska, the earthquakes and the beautiful landscape. Great day in Anchorage. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I'm from California and have been to Alaska 5 times and had experienced many excursions and tours. The hike on Matanuska Glacier is my favorite of all. The drive from Anchorage was scenic, the lunch was delicious. This tour would not have been so fantastic without our tour guide "Sean"!

Fantastic experience: We did an amazing hike on the Matanuska Glacier with Greatland. The transport, hiking, and guides Matt and Bill were fabulous. They did such a good job of tailoring it to our diverse little group. The were funny, knowledgeable, patient, and knew all the right spots to take the best photos. I would recommend Greatland to any visitors to Anchorage. A must do!

Fantastic experience: I booked the cruise around Prince William Sound for the beautiful landscape and views of the glaciers, with my fingers crossed that maaaaybe I might spot a whale along the way. Well. We saw a couple of humpback whales, a lot of sea otters, seals, seal lions, a big bear swimming closer to shore, and the absolute highlight, a pod of Dall’s porpoises racing the boat. I will never forget the feeling of standing on the bow and looking down at porpoises playing below my feet. The captain was so great about making sure everyone saw everything there was to see, pausing to let us take pictures, and getting as close to the glaciers and animals as was safely possible. I will never forget this afternoon.
