John was great and helped us get everything set up and highly recommend if you need a car from the Waikiki area. We rented their Ford bronco with the doors and top removed, and it was so great to see the island this way.

Negative experience: Hard to find the car. Car was not ready. Had to wait 45minutes to collect the car. Was in pretty poor condition when we collected it. Expensive compared to other locations and companies.

Fantastic experience: Island Car rental was the smoothest and easiest rental car company I have ever dealt with. The Staff and excellent and cars always clean. We used them 3 different days over our stay and were always the best prices. Close to our hotel with easy late drop off made it very handy and no need for expensive overnight parking. Negative experience: The companies website is outdated and slow, when checking out it will update the date of your rental and time entered. The first day I rented from them I had to fill out three different reservations for this reason. The second day I tried to rent for 12/26/2024 I entered this date and the time needed twice making sure it was correct and checked out and paid online. I get to the rental location and was advised the reservation was in fact wrong and booked for the next day due to the website error causing me to have no car for the day and out $230. I requested help to change the reservation date or to refund me as I flew home that night and could not use the car the date the website left. They refuse to refund the full amount even though the website caused this issue. They gave me 50% refund which is unfair and unreasonable. How could I have cancelled 24 in advance in this scenario??? Not to mention they attempted to charge my card for $500 randomly but thankfully the bank caught it as fraud. This company is a scam to get money they do not care about the families on vacation that they serve and how they affect their vacation. Never rent from them.

Positive experience: Since we were late so we were rushing to the place and told them we will be there at 11am; but the owner slowly showing up and took his time to did the insurance. Eventually we left the parking at 12. If he takes his customers seriously he could have walk/work a bit faster. If you don’t mind the wait it’s okay to rent in here but I’d prefer rent any other big companies from the airport.

Fantastic experience: I recently spent a week in Oahu and rented through Island Car Rental and had an amazing experience! I can’t say enough about how seamless their process is from booking to returning. The prices were SO reasonable and made it easy to explore all that Oahu had to offer at my own pace.. I would highly recommend the self-guided Oahu circle island tour as it was the highlight of my trip. I mean what’s better than driving from beach to beach in your Bronco with the top down! I HIGHLY recommend Island Car Rental to anyone looking to make the most of their Hawaiian adventure!

Fantastic experience: We reserved a convertible mustang 6months prior to our trip and I thought their price was to good to be true because their price was at least 50% cheaper compared to competition, but fast forward to our trip, we were so thrilled about the brand new mustang, it was clean and pick up was super convenient and fast. We highly recommend renting from them if you want to save lots of $$$ and stress free experience!

Negative experience: Disappointed with their business. Each person there told us different things. One guy who met us the first day wanted to charge us double but when we told him that we were told less price on the phone he agreed. Next he said we can take car out only between 7-12 or we have to pay parking fees. Next day the person there said we can take car out anytime between 7-10pm and one person of the company is always there. We came around 4 pm to pick up the car no one was there. Called multiple times, then the lady on the phone said you have to call before and asked us to wait for 30mins. Not sure who was speaking the truth between these three people. We got so disappointed that we walked and didn’t even use the car the third day and returned the key. I told the lady on the phone to make a note of my complaint but no response so far.

Fantastic experience: After a chat with the owner, my issues with Island Car Rental have been resolved. I was refunded the money for the insurance fee, and a partial refund for the fuel was also provided, which I really appreciate. Initially, I had a frustrating experience. I was not informed about a mandatory insurance fee when booking the car, which increased the cost unexpectedly. The lack of transparency led to some confusion. Additionally, the car was handed to me with less than a full tank of petrol, yet I was asked to return it with a full tank, which felt unfair. However, after reaching out to the business, they listened to my concerns and handled the situation professionally. The refund has made and their effort to resolve the issue shows they care about their customers. Based on this follow-up, I would now consider using their service again. It’s reassuring to know that they are willing to address issues when they arise.

Fantastic experience: I rented a Tesla Model 3, and it was reasonably priced compared to other shops in Waikiki. The interior was relatively clean, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to try driving a Tesla. The process was simple, and they shared video guides explaining everything from how to rent to how to return the car, making it easy to understand. When I rented, I was informed that charging upon return wasn’t necessary, so even in Waikiki, where chargers are limited, you can rent with peace of mind. (However, I recommend confirming this beforehand just to be sure.)

Fantastic experience: I rented a 2 DR Jeep Wrangler for 3 days in July 2024. Easy to access & Experience: While it is located in a parking garage on the 6th floor, the pick-up instructions were simple to understand. It was a short walk from Hilton Hawaiian Village (where we stayed). There was no line up to pick up the car and we left within 10 minutes. Drop-off was a breeze as well. The Jeep was very clean both inside and outside, it had modern technology with low mileage. The multiple staff that I came across over the 3 days were kind. They also responded quickly to my questions via email. Price: After researching the pricing of different cars from several big rental companies nearby, this one was priced competitively and we saved a lot of money. Extra: We rented the beach gear bundle that came with 2 chairs, one umbrella and a cooler which was very handy when we explored the beaches in the east cost and north shore. It’s a one-time fee versus daily rental charges at the resort. They offered free overnight parking which we were grateful for and avoided the expensive parking fee at the resort. Overall, I had a great experience and happy to choose them over those big rental companies. I would definitely rent from them again when I visit in the future.

Ahmed's dedication to customer satisfaction is evident, and he has earned my trust and loyalty. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I always want to support local businesses, but unfortunately, my experience with this rental company was subpar. The pickup location and instructions in the email were clear, but when we arrived, they couldn't find our reservation, and it took some time to find it. Eventually, they brought us a car with a completely flat tire! It was surprising that no one noticed it when they drove it to the street from the 6th floor. We had to wait again for a new car, unfortunately. After all, our car was clean and in good condition, until... To make matters worse, when we came to our first stop, we discovered ants crawling on our baby coming out of the baby seat. The lack of cleaning and maintenance was disappointing, especially when it came to baby equipment. As much as I would like to support local businesses, that much I do not recommend this particular one. Sorry.

Fantastic experience: Fast and easy. At first it felt a little shady because they are at the top of a parking garage and have no permanent office but I’m telling you it’s legit and super convenient. They have broncos, jeeps and convertible mustangs. Cars are in great shape and what’s cool is you can pick up a car in the morning at 7am. Use it all day and return it before 10pm at the same place hassle free. They do require a $500 deposit that is refunded when you return the car. All other places were much more expensive and I could only return the car the next day. We didn’t have time for that because we had an early morning tour. I would rent from island car rental again. Super friendly as well. I made a reservation online with only 15 minutes advance notice.

Fantastic experience: It was a little hard to find the Island Car Rental on the 6th floor, thankfully their superb customer service via phone call was rather quick and helpful. They told us exactly where the business was. The tesla I rented was clean. Love how they provide free parking if you want to park the rental car up on the 6th floor -- on the next day, you can just go to the 6th floor , tell the employees to meet you down at the ground floor, and they will let you out the gate free of charge. For ease of locating them, just walk towards the parking structure before the boom barrier/gate, and take the elevators to the 6th floor.

Fantastic experience: I recently rented a Tesla Model 3 from this local car rental company and had a fantastic experience! The car was clean, well-maintained, and conveniently pre-charged to 77% which was perfect for my day trip around the island. Even upon returning it at 39%, I still had plenty of charge for my needs. As a local company, their pickup location was just a parking lot (no office), but that wasn't a problem at all. It was actually super convenient since it was within walking distance from my hotel. The staff was friendly and efficient during both pick-up and drop-off, making the entire process smooth and hassle-free. I would definitely recommend them and rent from them again, especially if I have the chance to snag the same Model 3. It was a great way to explore the island at my own pace.

Fantastic experience: Look no futher. We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort (where the iconic rainbow mosaic building is at). They charge $75 for overnight parking which is almost as much as a compact SUV rental. I found this local company during my search for companies with flexible return policies. Their website is easy to use. Booking is a breeze. We walked the short distance from our hotel to the pick-up site at the Ilikai building where Red Lobster is at. From the lobby you head to the 6th floor where you will be met by a staff. From there they would take a picture of your driver’s license. You will then be instructed to head back down to the lobby while the staff drives the car down to meet you there. Overall we were satisfied with the 4 different days that we rented from them. The cars were all clean and fairly new. We would definitely rent from them again when we go back to Oahu. Hopefully their services remains the same and would only improve more moving forward.

Fantastic experience: Updating my review from 5 to 1 star. Rented a Tesla Model 3 from Island Car rentals early in July. The rental center is conveniently located in the epicenter of Waikiki. Rental prices are reasonable and the business really cares for its customers and goes above and beyond to make sure you have a positive experience. We will definitely be a loyal customer.

Negative experience: A vacation nightmare! Our reservation was for 7 AM because we had a scheduled tour at 8 AM. When my husband went to pick up the car, nobody was there. A woman called us around 7:30, asking for missing paperwork. By that time, there was still nobody at the pickup location. When we asked since they couldn’t deliver the car as promised, if we could cancel the reservation and get an Uber to catch our tour, the answer was no. To no surprise, we missed our tour for that day. A manager later promised to give us a discount, but not only that did not happen, things got worse. We have made separate reservations on 3 different days, for different prices. The company cancelled my lower priced reservations, billed me the highest price for all 3 days. I had to email them multiple times to get my money back. It is really not worth all the trouble to save a few dollars. I will go with a big company with reliable process next time.

Fantastic experience: If you like to support local businesses instead of international mega companies, this is one to consider. They can drop off and pickup the car from various places on the island and can pick up as lats as 10pm, saving you from having to pay to pay exorbitant prices to park overnight if you're just renting for one day. My wife left her very expensive sunglasses in the car when we turned it in. They located them and kept them safe until we could go get them. They even tried calling to arrange drop off at our hotel, but our daughter had her phone on silent and missed the calls. Would definitely rent from them again.

Fantastic experience: Renting at Island was an amazing experience! Would recommend 10/10. The rental process went very smoothly. They offer FREE overnight parking if you park at their parking garage which was a 5 minute walk from our hotel. That saved us 64$ a night! Staff was always available on call and in person and answered all my questions. Very kind. We rented a mustang convertible and it was clean and ran very smoothly. We rented an umbrella and they gave us two chairs additionally! We will be renting with them again next time we are at the island!

Fantastic experience: With parking prices so expensive we rented a couple different cars for a daily fee and returned at night so we didn’t have to pay for parking. The location on the 6th floor parking garage seems a little sketchy but the service was great, cars were clean and the price was right. Positive experience: They’ve got the best price on Waikiki. Pick up was quick. They let us park the car overnight in their garage for free so we didn’t have to pay the $35 hotel parking fee.

Negative experience: Car was fine, but price was not what it originally said, ending up being nearly double and the pick up was delayed by nearly an hour as the car was in a different location to the one sent and also late. Also then to top it all off they failed to mention a $500 deposit was needed before we could leave which was a very disappointing detail to leave out. Overall decent car but prices and process of pick up needs to be improved.

Negative experience: Terrible experience. Book a car in the morning, headline in the listing is for pick up at an address near international market. After walking around in the rain aimlessly we get in touch with someone who tells us the pick up is a mile away at a parking structure. Cool. We're told to wait outside a red lobster and someone will bring the car out of a parking structure. 10 mins....nobody. 20 mins....nobody....more texting back and forth with someone who isn't onsite saying the car should be there. We're convinced we've been scammed at this point. We continue to wait...in the rain. After 30 minutes someone shows up with a car. He's moving super slow and isn't in a rush. He starts to walk away without any instruction on how to return the car before we asked. "Return it on the 6th floor next to the white van and leave the keys in the van." Ok. He leaves....and then we try to leave....only to find out that the guy took the car keys with him. So we're still in the rain and now have to track down this guy. We can't. Felt like we were being pranked. More texting with the random person, guy comes back after 10 minutes with the key. There's this janky white van on the 6th floor and nobody around. We park the car next to it and there's literally a hole cut out in the back of the van. We toss the keys in the hole and kind of shrug our shoulders. Just not a professional or reliable service. The pick up process was a joke. I'm no fan of the big car rental companies, but would gladly pay a little more to not have to deal with an experience like this one.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic family owned and operated car rental business. Owner gave me his personal number for any type of emergency or mishaps which was greatly appreciated. The Bronco still had that new car smell. Zero complaints. He even drove me back to my hotel when he saw I was going to walk. Thank you again. George

Fantastic experience: Staying at the Ilikai we chose Island Car Rental because of the complimentary overnight parking. The prices were great, the car was exactly as expected, we even were able to rent a couple beach chairs for the week that were in the trunk for us. Mohammad was waiting downstairs for us when we picked it up, it was super convenient. We asked about the complimentary parking, and he told us it was not in/out parking and that they had to drive the car out of the garage for us. He said they were there between 7-12 and we could pick up the car. It usually took less than 5 minutes to get the car for us - until the day we had an expensive tour booked. When we arrived there was a woman there who told us he had just left to go to the other location, which was on the other end of Waikiki (we googled mapped it, it was 32 minutes round trip). I was upset because we were told between 7-12, and had spent over $300 on a tour we might miss. I wish they had told us to allow over 30 minutes to pick up the car, but because it had only been taking a few minutes we assumed we would be ok The woman was extremely rude, shrugging her shoulders and telling me I was welcome to go pay $50 to park the car somewhere else. She also kept reminding me that it waa “complimentary” and just shrugging her shoulders. We finally remembered we had the ticket and could just pay to drive the car out, which we is what we did. I apologized the next day about getting upset, and explained how I was afraid we would be out money. She never apologized to me for the delay, but Mohammad did the next day. He was great. She was not. Overall I would rent again, I would just make sure I had extra time to pick up the car and not expect it in under 15 minutes.

Fantastic experience: First time renting a car in Hawaii and I was hesitant to do so, but Island Car Rental made the process easy and enjoyable to communicate with. My partner and I were able to book a Tesla model 3, my first time driving one and I appreciate that Island Car Rental had this as an option because it made travelling around the island so easy as a tourist. Not only was the experience easy we really need to praise the responsiveness to our texts and calls. Everyone at Island Car Rental was great to communicate with and when we come back, we will be sure to use ICR again.

Fantastic experience: Rented a Tesla for two days and enjoyed the experience. They were based in the building we were staying at, so it was super convenient. Service was friendly and I think more personable than the bigger nationwide chains. They operate from a white van on the 6th floor parking, which seemed a bit sketchy as I walked up, but when I got there it was totally fine. The attendant was helpful and the vehicles are great. Easy to use their online booking system as well.

Negative experience: I am out $600 for this rental. No one met me to give me the car. The car was unsuitable and no representative assisted me in finding another. I was given the number of a temp employee who would not return my calls or resolve the issue. I attempted to email and call multiple times and no one has refunded or made an effort to resolve. I rented from another company. None of what is said below is true. I only had a car for one night. I was never offered another as I had no response from anyone and I never took another car from the company. I never asked for a partial refund I expected a full refund. This is October with no follow up until now on an August grievance.

We were staying in the Modern Hilton Hotel which had EV charging stations which was really convenient. Pickup and drop off was right across the street, really simple process and decent price. Fantastic experience: We really enjoyed exploring the island in the Tesla we rented. It was a lot of fun to drive. Perfect way to see more than just Honolulu while on Oahu. Pickup and dropoff were pretty smooth, once you know where they are-- make sure to read the location directions carefully.

Negative experience: When renting a car from this company be sure to do a full interior and exterior inspection of the car. I'm sure they have some newer cars but we reserved a Tesla 3 that was delivered to us in a less then desirable state. Although not ideal, the exterior damage we could live with (missing light covers, lots body small and large damage, half the mat black car wrap missing, etc..). However, after the attendant left, upon getting in the car, we found the interior had ripped seats, wood finishing that was peeling off, a seatbelt console cover that came off and hit me in the head while driving (safety issue) and was in very dirty condition (sand, paper and hand marks everywhere). It was more like rent-a-wreck instead of rent a car, which is fine as long as it is advertised and priced as such. Even just a quick vacuum and wipe down would have helped. Instead of wasting our time and going through the hassle of getting an alternative vehicle we kept the car as we had to be somewhere. When passing along this information to the attendant present upon our return (so they could improve) it seemed to fall on deaf ears and the feeling was that it was already common knowledge/standard practice. Disappointed for sure.

Fantastic experience: We rented the Highlander and it was in good shape. Car was ready on the street for us and check in was an easy process. Simple, fast service. Probably one of my best rental experiences. We were staying at the Prince so it was an easy pick up. (Parking by marina is $1 per hour. What a steal!) Tip: pick up is on the 6th floor of Ilikai Marine Condos parking lot.

Fantastic experience: Cheapest rate in Waikiki. Cars a bit older. Looks like they just vacuum and send out again. But that’s what get for 40% cheaper. Can drop back off late on the same day. So u save hotel parking charge. The pickup is in a parkade… looked a bit sketchy, but was all good. They send u a video link on how to pickup& drop off. Looks like they have low overhead, thus u save. My suv flashed oil change waning all day… but I had no issues. Not sure of their maintenance schedule etc.
