Fantastic experience: Don picked us up in Hilo and we did the tour it was wonderful. We were on the cruise ship so when we got to Kona Don picked us up again and took us to some really cool places. We loved hawaii volcano tours with Don.

Fantastic experience: Leon made the trip. You can’t make the volcano be erupting or the clouds clear away for the stars gazing (we saw two for a second) but he was so knowledgeable, engaging and gracious - it made it worthwhile. The views were beautiful and it was a great day.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely loved the Volcano Tour on Maui. Dindo our driver and guide was great. We enjoyed the volcanoes, the lunch, the distellery tour and the time driving between sites as Dindo was giving us highlights on everthing from volcanoes to agriculture, architexture and history.

Negative experience: Dear Volcano tours and Juanita, My wife and I went on the 10-Hour Deluxe Circle Island Stargazing Tour From Kona Resorts (on 23rd January )and we would like to provide some feedback and seek a partial refund as the tour was quite disappointing. You have yet to reply to our email. Firstly, we would like to say that the tour guide was very friendly and helpful, however, when we approached him with our complaints/issues with the tour he said that these aspects were out of his control and we should contact you via email. The first major issue we had was that the air conditioning/cooling in the van was not working, and as we were placed at the back of the van (not our choice, the only place left), we were left feeling very uncomfortable with the heat and lack of ventilation. The temperature in the van for the first 4 hours of the tour at least was between 85-90 degrees. It did decrease to around 83-84 degrees after than and about 75 degrees by the time we got back to the hotel, however, we spent a large part of the day in stifling heat. The tour guide did let one of us sit in the front seat of the van where it was a little cooler, but my wife spent most of the time in the back of the van feeling very hot. The tour guide mentioned he was aware of the cooling issue but nothing had been actioned by your company. The other major issue was that despite being called a “stargazing tour”, there was, in fact, no stargazing component even attempted. We were told that because the tour started at 9am (we were picked up around 9.20), the end of the 10 hours would be at 7pm and therefore too early for stargazing due to sunset being later. It was actually quite dark by 7pm and I’m not sure why we couldn’t have had some time stargazing on the tour, or make the tour start later so as to include what was advertised as the main activity of the tour. Had the tour guide attempted to take us stargazing and the issue been a lack of visibility then we would have understood that the weather is out of your control, but that is not the case. There was very good visibility (with stars visible) and yet we were not taken stargazing. Given that the tour did not include the main activity it was advertised for (even included in the title of the tour) and also given the poor conditions of the van we were taken in, we would request to be issued a partial refund please. We are leaving the Big Island tomorrow and will not be back in the foreseeable future (we live in Australia) so attending another tour will not be a possible remediation, thus our request for a partial refund please. We look forward to your response on this matter.

Fantastic experience: The tour guides went above and beyond and we got to see a real life eruption. Great tour group.

Negative experience: We were staying in O'ahu and unfamiliar with traveling between the islands. Our primary goal was to visit Volcano National Park, which was included in this tour. Unfortunately, our time here was ill-spent and the tour guide was friendly enough, but often shared his personal opinions on politics, family dynamics, social issues, etc. A brief break down of our day is as follows: Transportation from hotel to airport, flight, met tour company representative at the airport. Drove to a location where some passengers were possibly getting a helicopter ride, time spent sitting on bus waiting for passengers to be squared away: 30 min (tour guide apparently did not have direct contacts for anyone associated with the helicopter tour). Waterfall (which is almost visible from the road): 20 min Candy Store: 20-30 min (because the driver had to go back to where someone might have a helicopter tour). Black sand beach: 20 minutes, saw turtles, that was an awesome part of the day. Lunch break: 1 hour, guide was able to provide some suggestions for places you could get lunch in the downtown area and set a drop off and pick up location (the guide announced he went to the gym while we were at lunch, which cost us time later when he realized he needed gas and could not make it back to the airport). Volcano National Park: Multiple brief stops, accounting for 1.5hr, including the visiting center, steam vent, lava tube, etc. This totaled a 14 hour day with this tour group. Overall, it was disappointing to have spent so little time at the actual park and very frustrating to know that we could have had an additional hour of time if there was better planning and coordination.

Fantastic experience: The best tour in my whole year. Great job Don. Your enthusiasm and knowledge in botany and real estate make the tour more worthwhile. You make me like Hilo. I wish to stay longer, but my ship is leaving.

Negative experience: I was extremely disappointed with the customer service of volcano tours during my trip to Maui in November 2024. I slept in for an hour, woke up at 3 am rather than 2 am- an of course I get it, this was completely my mistake (my alarm did not go off) and not the tour company's. However- To try and still catch my tour I then drove to the crater entrance myself. I arrived there over an hour before sunrise whilst on the phone to the company. They simply said that there is nothing that they can do and I would not be allowed to enter the crater park entrance to join the tour. Nor would they return to the entrance to fetch me, even though I was there this early. So, there I was, half way up a volcano on the wrong side of the sunrise viewing and couldn't do anything about it. I asked to speak with the manager and said I wanted to ask them if I can change my tour for another experience I would have time to do in Hawaii or get a compensation to do it next time I'm around. The lady on the phone told me the team would be in touch the following Monday but no one ever contacted me. I haver heard nothing from them since. I recommend just getting a pass to enter the volcano crater yourself rather than joining a tour. I spent over 200 USD and there was no sort of helpful customer service.

Fantastic experience: We had a fantastic time with Michael during our tour! We learned so much and he made it a very personalized experience. He was also very well prepared for the weather and we got some incredible views. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: A wonderful tour with a very knowledgeable tour guide, who managed time and people very well. We stuck to our schedule, and it never felt rushed. All the tour high points were visited, and we very much enjoyed the black sand beach (yay for the turtles being there!), Kilauea and lava tube and the star-gazing (hooray for the clear skies!) - I had not seen the Milky Way. clearly for many, many years. It was fantastic to see so many diverse areas of the island, without having to do all of the driving. I'd recommend the tour to any of my friends visiting the Big Island.

Negative experience: Wij hebben van tevoren gevraagd of wij de hike boekten of met de auto. Ons werd gezegd hike. Maar toen we hadden betaald bleek dit niet waar. We hebben geprobeeed contact te krijgen via telefoon, app, chat, mail maar kregen niemand te pakken. Uiteindelijk drie uur in de auto gezeten vandaag en nog niets wijzer. Ontzetten vervelend! Gewoon misleid dus.. Ik zou zeker niet boeken bij deze organisatie!

Fantastic experience: Although it’s a tour over 11 hours (ours was 13 with pickup) it is totally worth it. David (ROYALTY) was the best tour guide anyone can ever ask for. He was attentive to our needs and even when their were minor issues with some guest (twisted ankle) as a former first responder l, he was quick to the call and provided proper care enough that the person was able to continue the tour!! Everything you see was a sensory overload and we are still reeling from believing what we saw!! This is a must do and please ask for David if you can, his family knowledge of the islands made it a unique experience. On a side note, bring some Hawaiian ghost stories for the night time lava tube (my fav) it was so much fun! Let loose and enjoying!!

Fantastic experience: Everything from our flight to the land tour was organized and seamless. They did a great job touching base with us before and during the tour. The helicopter was a great experience and Justin led us through the land tour. It was a great way to see the big island.

Fantastic experience: We spent the day touring the big island with Cheeday as our driver/guide. He was a genuine, friendly and funny young man, who instantly connected with our normally shy 11 year old son and helped him come out of his shell. He was knowledgeable and very informative of life on the Big Island, especially from a native Hawaiian's perspective. The tour itself was great with a fantastic helicopter ride over the caldera and craters, as well as the lava flow, lava tube and other areas around the Big Island. Would highly recommend the tour, and Cheeday as a guide.

Fantastic experience: I booked the 10 hr volcano tour with black sand beach and Star gazing as part of it with Hawai tours and activities for me and my family, which had a toddler and my wife and my mother who's had 2 knee surgeries. I expected it to he a regular tour where the driver would drive around and just explain stuff over the microphone...but never in a million years did I expect to get a tour with one of the most charismatic, kind and the most hilarious tour guide, CHEEDAY!! Not only did Cheeday made the whole tour an amazing experience with his humor but he bought all the members (8 in total including our 4) of the tour group together and formed our OHANA for the day. He kept us engaged and was super kind with everyone. He was thought with my elderly mother's need as she had knee surgeries and my 2 year old toddler who sometimes had a rough time during the altitude change (she was champion on this 10 hr tour, which turned into 12). I cannot say enough good things about Cheeday and this tour we had yesterday, but I am going to try to summarize everything to the best of my ability. Timely pick up- ✔️, great communication- ✔️, knowledgeable- ✔️, patience-✔️, Humor- ✔️✔️, going above and beyond with everything-✔️✔️✔️. If you have any doubts about booking a trip with this company, don't doubt it, just do it!! & ask for Cheeday. I am sure they have other great tour guides but Cheeday was phenomenal! I had 1 little issue but that was with the communication with the booking as I had asked for a wheelchair for my mother incase she needed it, and Cheeday was not aware of this as it was not communicated to him, but we got through the day thankfully, no wheelchair assistance was needed. This young man made our tour 100% better and we appreciate the experience you provided. You're part of our Ohana,Cheeday. Thank you for an amazing tour!!

Fantastic experience: This was a really good tour for our family (youngest 9 and oldest 65), taking you to some of the main sites around the volcano national park and Hilo. The tour was pretty easy going, not too much walking and enough time to explore areas. The tour guide Aaron was helpful and had a good vibe about him.

Fantastic experience: Worth it! It was my boys’ first trip to the big island. We wanted to do an all day trip over to the big island to see as much as possible. Our guide Kahaiola (aka Cheeday) was outstanding! He was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure we were always looked after. I had the usual nerves about not seeing everything or worrying about our stuff but, Cheeday made sure we had plenty of time everywhere and he was very contentious about making sure all our belongings were always secure. He made us feel very welcome. We had a blast!

Fantastic experience: The volcano tour was wonderful…but not even as close to amazing as our tour guide Cheeday was!! If a bad view is left for him it was in no way his fault that visitors had a bad time! They must have ensured for themselves that they had a bad time!! The trip was rainy and cold all day and while we didn’t get perfect pictures or take part in a helicopter ride, Cheeday still brightened the day with his wonderful attitude and kind words!!! I will always wish him the best. He is the sweetest tour guide ever and deserves the world from every visitor. Thank you times a million, Cheeday, because YOU are one in seven billion!!

Fantastic experience: My wife and I had our guide Cheeday to ourselves for the day. He’s a young friendly Hawaiian and we enjoyed our time with him very much. Even as he guided us to the various places he shared with us stories of his life and culture which we appreciated, giving us deeper insight to our Hawaiian experience. The tour itself was spectacular as we had great views of a giant live volcano, something which I had wanted to see, and other interesting spots. We had a great time with Cheeday.

Fantastic experience: We had a great 10 person tour of the Big Island (with ages 4 to 69), led by Cheeday. I mention age because the kids loved Cheeday and he related so well to them, with great kindness and willingness to answer their questions and laugh with them. As for the adults, his knowledge of the island and love for his family, people, and state, enhanced his stories. He is an excellent driver, fun to talk with, patient, and engaging. Rainbow Falls with the giant banyan trees, the lava tube, and the volcano park were experiences we don’t have in the upper Midwest and not to be missed. It was a great day with a wonderful guide, creating many family memories. Thank you Cheeday!

Fantastic experience: We booked this tour hoping to see volcanoes, waterfalls, and lava tubes. Cheeday was our tour guide and delivered everything we asked for and more. We were able to see each of those things, plus more. In addition to getting us to each place safely and efficiently, Cheeday really made our tour. His knowledge of the Hawaiian culture, language, and history, landscape and animals, and ability to share his experiences and stories would be hard to beat. Our group of 10 people, ranging in age from 4 years old to 70 years young, brought a mixture of interests, but Cheeday engaged all of us easily. The lava tube and Rainbow Falls were the favorites, specifically the giant banyon tree. This tour was a highlight of our trip to Hawaii and highly, highly recommend Cheeday. Thank you!

My 9 year old son wasn't feeling too great from the travel from Boston to Hawai'i but Aaron (our tour guide) is a native of the island so he said to text him whenever we were ready. Luckily my son came around to feeling better so I just sent a text and 20 mins later we were off. He was more than know about the area and it's history. If you ever book a tour you have to request Aaron. You won't be disappointed

Fantastic experience: My favorite experience of the Big Island, with our very fun and engaging guide, Eugene. Features a spectacular private tour of a lava tube, a small group hike across lava fields, away from the hordes of tourists, and ending with breathtaking ocean views. Thoughtful details, such as rain jackets, walking sticks and cookies for desserts.

Fantastic experience: Had a great day touring Volcanoes National Park and Hilo with our tour guide Justin, who went above and beyond to give my partner and I a special experience. Negative experience: I want to start by saying the guide staff was wonderful, and in that vacuum the tour would be a 5 star review like many others. That said - We signed up for a coffee/sun/star gazing tour, but that tour never actually happened, and lack of communication compounded the issue. The tour: We met at the location on the email, checked in and got on the bus, where we quickly found out that this was not the tour we signed up for - instead we got a tour of Hilo before driving around for a while on Saddle road waiting for sunset. When we stopped for food, they handed out our meals (names on each) and my wife ended up with a sandwich instead of the salad she ordered (we had noted that she was gluten free on the form and a voice mail from the company reconfirmed this). While this wasn't what we signed up for and the food was incorrect, the guide was fun to be around and we were able to at least see the stars - overall still not why the review is so low. After: The next day I looked at the website to make sure we hadn't accidentally signed up for the wrong thing (I have made mistakes before, but that wasn't the issue here) and I check if there was any reason the tour couldn't happen - sure enough googling the coffee farm, it is temporarily closed to the public/tours. I tried to reach out to the company the via their contact email to understand what had happened, and let them know that their site may be letting people sign up to a tour that they aren't conducting but didn't get a response. A week later their auto generated email asking for reviews or to contact them for issues came in, so I sent another email via the provided link that also indicated they would contact me. It has been 2 weeks since that second email and no response. I understand things change and mistakes happen, but communication is key to making the experience positive and they have fell flat on this point. We chose Volcano Tours as they had best reviews instead of another company with a slightly more interesting tour. At this point, I can say there are plenty of other tour groups in the area that provide similar services - I wouldn't tell anyone to shy away from Volcano Tours as a whole (their reviews show they can do amazing tours) but just be aware that you might not be getting what you signed up for.

Fantastic experience: Justin did a great job taking us on the Volcano Tour. He is very knowledgeable and kind. We had a great time and learned a lot about volcanos, big island and Hilo. Loved visiting chocolate factory too.

Fantastic experience: We had the best experience through the whole tour but the highlight was seeing the gazillion stars in the night sky with our wonderful guide, Jason pointing out constellations and planets highly recommend this tour.

Fantastic experience: Aloha, our tour guide was Cheeday and he was first and foremost personable, knowledgeable, fun and helpful beyond being a guide. We encountered an issue with our connections to and from the airport and he provided us with a contact, as well as his personal contact information to ensure our return to our hotel was trouble free. A big shout out to him for his patience and assistance. Mahalo!!!

He shared history of area and gave us recommendations for our stay. He also kept us with entertained with his humor. Fantastic experience: Our tour guide, Justin, was fantastic. He had incredible knowledge of the islands, which I would expect of most people working as a guide. What set Justin apart though was that it was obvious that he genuinely loved sharing the place he lived with other people. I would imagine that to many people living in Hawai'i, the tourists such as my wife and I are a mixed blessing. We come and spend money, but we're there so briefly, and we can overwhelm the locals with our numbers. Justin really made us feel like we were being shown around the Big Island by something more like a "friend of a friend" though. He would cover the major tourist spots and features, but would sprinkle it with little bits about what local life is like, what it's like having native hawaiian heritage, and what the day-to-day life of a resident is like. We packed so much into our tour: we saw the volcanoes national park, which was our main goal, but Justin also took us to places we never would have even known to look at. We got see volcanic caves, a local farmers market, and some of the local backroads; we saw several beautiful parks with amazing banyon trees, waterfalls, and beaches. But we also got little bits that I recognized as being someone who really loves the place they live and loves sharing it with others. Things that I do when I play tour guide for relatives here in Oregon. Bits of information about the Kamehameha Schools, bits about his family what life was like living on the Big Island after moving from Oahu, comments about the mountains being extra visible, and comments about what the different cities and communities on the island were like to live in. I don't know if every tour guide working for this agency provides these things, but it really made our day on the Big Island magical.

Fantastic experience: My husband and I had a limited amount of time to see all the sites in Hawaii. But I’m glad we booked a Volcano Tour with Hawaii Tours; we got to see the most of the Big Island all in the span of a day! When you book with Hawaii Tours, they make sure everything is covered—from your cab ride to the airport to your flights from Maui/Oahu and obviously your shuttle and tour guide to take your around Hilo. We had Justin as our guide and driver for our tour, and he was such a great host! Very funny, personable, and as a native Hawaiian, he had a wealth of knowledge to share about his home state. Our first stop was Volcano National Park. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen. We felt like we were stepping out onto the surface of Mars, viewing the crater, seeing the steam vents, and walking around the lava formations. Justin was gracious and made sure to give us plenty of time to explore and helped us take group photos. Next we drove into the town of Hilo, and had plenty of time to grab lunch and do some shopping. The town offers a variety of delicious food options (we opted for a small poke and BBQ place that had outdoor seating to enjoy the afternoon sun), lots of gift shops with handcrafted goods, and even a farmers market with fresh fruit and flowers. We next went to see Rainbow Falls. The falls is certainly beautiful. But the real stars of the show were the giant bayan trees just a short walk down the trail. Great spot for photos and to enjoy the shade of the trees. Because our group was small, Justin was able to take us to some extra sites to see along the way. He even was able to spot a turtle in one of the side streams, munching on some sea grass. We were able to stop and take some photos of it, which proved to be a positive since there were no turtles at the black sands beach. Highly recommend this tour if you want to see all of the highlights of Hilo. Be sure to ask for Justin!

Fantastic experience: Aloha!! We were a group of 8 that flew in from Oahu for a tour. Aaron was our guide and he was amazing!! He was waiting for us at the airport once we landed. The ages of our group were from 10 to 83 years old! My dad asked him to take it a bit slower because he and my mom are both 83 years old and he did. He had a great and kind personality and a great sense of humor. Took us wherever we wanted to go but brought us to great places we didn’t know about.He was very knowledgeable of the islands history and culture. Very family oriented as well. It was an awesome day with Aaron!! He is a HUGE asset to your company! We hated to part ways with him at the end of the day. and we all had to hug him goodbye! We could not have had a better tour guide. A tour we will never forget!! We miss you already Aaron!! Very highly recommend tour guide!!❤️

Fantastic experience: Our group of twelve from seven to seventy found our Big Island Volcano Tour with Anson to be the highlight of our trip. We wish to commend his knowledge, communication, and humor. He was so knowledgeable about all of the geology, vegetation, history, and culture that everyone was fascinated all day long. We appreciated that he was flexible about the sights we wanted to prioritize, and his timeline worked out perfectly. It was definitely a bonus that our group had a bus to ourselves which allowed our input into the activities.
